Montreal’s Best Greek Restaurants - Eater Montreal

"An institution since it opened in 1973, Marven’s steaks, souvlaki, and gargantuan platters of grilled chicken, lamb chops, pork chop, quails, and veal chops remain immensely popular among Montrealers. Line-ups are a common occurrence on weekends, so it’s best to arrive early — especially if it’s to grab a spot on the terrasse." - JP Karwacki

The Best Restaurants in Parc-Extension (Parc-Ex) - Eater Montreal

"This Greek institution has been a mainstay in the community since 1976, where on typical evenings, it would draw crowds out the door. Nowadays, takeout keeps flowing, and so does delivery with UberEats, for which calamari, souvlaki, and other iterations of grilled meat are packed to go." - Valerie Silva, Mallory Frayn

I've been here a few times—usually go for the Calamari and Lamb chops. Today, we tried the Steak, and I like it. It was tender, juicy, and cooked just the way we wanted. The portion was generous too.

Google
Great food and service! The staff is really friendly and welcoming. The fried calamari is amazing!! We were 4 people (starving) and paid around $180 (great value for money)

Google
Wow! People from all over come to this restaurant, even though they might have to wait for a table! Worth the wait! Amazing food, atmosphere, and staff! I was really impressed!

Google
This eatery has two undeniable must-haves, the crispy fried calamari that I drizzled with their homemade orange sauce, and the incredibly juicy lamb chops, a menu standout. It's cash-only and be prepared to wait in line.

Google
It was my first time eating Greek food, and it was a pleasant surprise. Their food is delicious, all the dishes were very tasty and well served. In fact, we could only eat the salad and the fried calamari, one of the dishes we took home, as we didn't have any room in our stomachs. The service is fast, efficient, and very good. Payment must be made in cash, so keep that in mind if you go there. They have an ATM available on site, in case you need it. It was a great experience and I will definitely go back there and recommend the place.

You can’t go wrong with the food at Marven’s! The portion of the food is huge! The service is fast and efficient! Highly recommend the lamb ****make sure you bring cash****

Restaurant Review: A Delightful Greek Dining Experience If you’re searching for an exceptional Greek dining experience, this restaurant is a gem worth visiting. From the moment you step in, the warm and inviting ambiance sets the tone for an unforgettable meal. The menu is a well-curated selection of Greek classics, each dish prepared with authentic flavors and fresh ingredients. The grilled lamb was tender and bursting with flavor. Service is another highlight. The staff is attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu, eager to provide recommendations or accommodate dietary preferences. They ensure every guest feels valued, creating an atmosphere of genuine hospitality. Overall, this Greek restaurant delivers both culinary excellence and impeccable service. Whether for a casual dinner or a special occasion, it’s a place I’d highly recommend and look forward to visiting again.

Yelp
What a neighbourhood gem! Situated in a residential area, we made our way here for our first time (it certainly won't be our last). You feel like you're walking into a cottage. There are beams and major retro feels. The restaurant was packed at 8:30pm. Perfect place for a family outing, hanging with friends, or a casual date night. Our focus was the lamb chops. Perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The Greek salad served with a thick slice of feta, not the crumbled kind. I personally love taramosalata, light and fluffy fish roe spread that came with a basket of buttered thick toast. We also ordered a heaping plate of tender calamari. A delicious and reasonably priced dinner with all the Greek fixins!

Joseph Z.

Yelp
Food is great, service is excellent, the ambience is great! The lamb chops are to my liking I can eat it everyday. The service, the staff are so friendly even if you don't speak French and yet they'll give you the same service as if you're from that area. The place is great, it goes of what they serve, great!

Yelp
This was worth the 20 min wait in line! Excellent food, everything was fresh and plentiful stuff was respectful and accommodating. They only take cash but there is a ATM on the lower level... excellent Greek food!

Yelp
You don't go wrong with the food here. Generous portions, good price and great service. The staffs are very friendly. The foods are cooked to perfection.

The lamb chops were good so was the steak and mushroom. I like the Marvin sauce that they have.

Yelp
I started coming to this place because of a friend like over 5 years ago and everything was delicious back then and today I went there as well with a friend to celebrate Canada day we always spend it together every year for ever I got the 2 brochette plate and she got the pita plate which comes with potatoes rice salad and they put a lot of salad of course we got the calamari plate cause theirs is the best ever I love with the lemon juice also got the bread a free tetzaki sauce by mistake the waiters were the same as I remember except for a new guy who is like so young they were patient with my demands of water they were attentive good and are amazing so worth trying and going there you would not be decepointed at all great ambiance service clean place and they offer nice drink options

Nivetha S.

Yelp
Amazing food!!! If you want great authentic green chicken this is the place to go! I got the chicken plate with the stick and added an extra chicken pita with rice fries and salad and it was so delicious (very good portions for the price) (under $15-20 depending on the meat you get) I also got the calamari since everyone raves about it , it was good but not amazing and that's probably because of the smell I personally can't take the fishy smell .. also it was a bit chewy for my liking I also got the spanakopita which was great! Rice potatoes and salad were also really good, you can tell they use good quality feta An easy 5/5

Yelp
Never been here before but heard it was a Montreal staple for greek food! Ordered a plate with two pitas to share and it was too much! and cheap! The sandwich was delicious, great flavours in the meat and the sauce was tasty. The plate itself is salad, fries, and rice and the plate alone is enough to stuff two people for an entire day. Service is friendly and efficient. Loved my time here. The only tiny thing is that they charge extra for sharing but since all plates are so big, it makes sense to share and we shouldn't have to pay more so as to not waste food.

Yelp
I've heard so many good things about this place especially their calamari so I was praying I wouldn't be disappointed and long and behold it definitely wasn't! I ordered calamaris as entrée still pretty good size! I wanted the gyro but at the time I went they were sold out. So I got the porc pita plate instead with rice and Caesar salad. It took me 40 minutes to drive from the restaurant back to south shore and I'm 100% happy to say the calamaris were still so good!! They weren't as crispy (not their fault) but it wasn't rubbery or dry as most places! They were still warm and had a good taste! Thé porc pita was good and huge! Good amount of tzatziki sauce in the pita very filling! My only note would be to add some spices or something on the fries since they're very bland and ordinary. The service was great host was friendly and patient as I was trying to decided what to order since they were out of gyros. We had a big order and it came out pretty quickly! Since it's COVID it is CASH ONLY! They are planning to open the resto for sit down dinner in a few weeks. Can't wait to go back and tastes the gyro!

Yelp
500th review for a cherished restaurant i've had over 500 times. Why is this place in a non-commercial part of town so popular going back decades? It's a secret sauce that tings and tangs everything it touches. They have had their ups and downs (such as replacing the greek oregano brushed bread with ciabatta) but are now firing on all cylinders. I grew up on Marven's since they were right behind our house and by our school. What drew us in was their fries and their sauce which is so addictive it needs it's own 12 step program. 90% of my meals are takeout and always involve fries and souvlaki sticks or pitas. They are less conical than other places and the tzatziki less tangy but man it is a delight. Getting souvlaki sticks is a great option since the pork or chicken really stand on their own and less caloric. It's honestly not the prettiest food but fits any occasion: Back from a long trip? Marven's Too cold to go out? Marven's Nice Summer day? Marven's My go-to options when eating are different, I will get the calamari and rib steak, which is chewy, fatty, enormous and lusciously covered with mushrooms. It is a jewel in the Montreal Crown of Epic Restaurants, top 10 must-haves in this fair city

Yelp
Always delicious! The fried calamari is probably the best item on the menu! Everything is fresh, from the greek salad to the fried calamari! The service is also very nice! They are smiley and welcoming!

Yelp
Always great to come back and expect the same great taste of greek food. Tasty fries, lamb chops, gyros and fried calamari! Generous portions of salad too!

Yelp
Tastes like home !!! Wow I would travel all the way from Los Angeles to Montreal for just having the crispy calamari and the tzatziki You guys are the best .unfortunately we discovered you on our last day, otherwise we would be there every single day of our vacation. Thank you to all the friendly staff. Simple the best food and the best staff !!! Greetings from LA

Yelp
The food is very tasty and well cooked. I had the calamari hmm one of the best I ever had. If not the best. My friend ordered the ribs and I had a bite, also very delicious. However the food presentation didn't impress me. The service leaves to desire. I asked for a glass of wine. I was shocked to see greasy fingerprints around the glass. I wasn't in the mood to make any comments and was too hungry for contesting it. Besides that the food wa

Yelp
We went and almost every single member of our party ordered quail. I was not impressed with the food because it was ok. The salad was tasty and fresh but I didn't like how they served it. The service was terrible. I felt that they didn't want us there.
google avatar

Neil D.

Yelp
I haven't been here in years. The food was good, a little disappointed that the French fries were not fresh but frozen but all in all my meal was very enjoyable. My only complaint was that the service although very friendly was very slow.

Yelp
I came here for lunch with a friend after hearing so many good reviews of this place. When we arrived, they told us their ventilation was broken so it was very smoky in there. I insisted on staying since I had been wanting to try their food for a while. We ordered the calamari and spanakopita for appetizers. The calamari were delicious but only came with a lemon wedge, no sauce. The spanakopita I found was dry and didn't have much taste. For the main dishes, we ordered the chicken gyro plate and the pork gyro plate. Both meats were SO good! Tender, juicy, flavorful! The salad was okay, a bit too vinegary. The potatoes were good. And finally, the rice lacked flavor, I barely had any. They didn't have a lunch menu and I found that the regular price was a little high. All in all, I enjoyed my experience here and would definitely come back for the meat!

Alyssia L.

Yelp
Does this look like 50$ to you? (It's dry and tasteless too) Terrible food and service, they even forgot my calamari and asked me to come back very rudely. I do not wish this culinary experience on anyone. STAY AWAY

Yelp
Definitely one of the best Greek restaurants in Montreal! A small but busy restaurant, but great for family dinners or groups, located in the middle of the Acadie neighbourhood. They are known for their fried calamari which is amazing, being crispy yet juicy. Their pitas and stick chicken are seasoned and grilled perfectly, making them juicy and very tasty. Their platters are very generous in portions while being decently priced - the pita and sticks platter come with fries, rice and salad (with a light and delicious dressing). Being quite popular, there is usually a line up for this place, but it moves fairly quickly. Also, this establishment is cash only, so make sure to either withdraw some cash before hand or you can use their ATM machine! All in all, I definitely recommend this place for a family dinner or dinner with friends!

Yelp
At Marven's this is the place to be, huge plates and don't forget the calamari plate is a MUST. I took the chicken stick come with rice, fries potatoes and a fresh delicious salad with feta, tomatoes, letuce, onions and blacks olives. They have this special orange sauce that you put on everything. They gave renovated the place.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my dinner at Marven's! Located in a residential part of Montreal, it's got an amazing old school vibe when you walk in. If your from out of town and driving, pay attention as you may miss it. Also, leave time for Parking as it's difficult to find. Get here early as it filled up fast when we got here Friday night for dinner. We ordered the souvlaki platter, which came with some of the most tender, flavourful chicken I've ever had, great portion of rice and salad (they were ok) and some of the biggest fries I've ever been served. The Tzaziki here is better than my Moms, but I caution you, don't try it if you hate garlic because it's swimming in it. Being Greek, I didn't mind one bit. Your mouth will burn a bit! We finished it off with their strawberry cheesecake. I didn't mind it, but it had a lighter texture, so don't expect that New York style with heavy cream cheese. Great menu choices. I'll be back!

Yelp
I feel embarrassed but I have to admit that this was my first time here. I heard many good things. A legendary spot in Park Ex. We showed up for lunch. They're open for takeout which is good during the pandemic. They have the popular Greek favourites. I ordered a pork skewer and gyro pita. The pita was moist and delicious. Loads of garlic. The skewer was dry. I'm glad they're open. I'm sure it would have been better eating in. Bring cash, don't bring a vampire and bring a healthy appetite. Nice portions.

Traylynn S.

Yelp
Anyone that serves Justin Trudeau on the tax payers dime at this time of people starving and standing at food banks deserve less than a 1 star review! I will never eat here. And looking at the reviews, it is severely overpriced! Go figure Trudeau would eat there on our dime!

Joseph Rabindranath Z.

Yelp
The stuff were very friendly. In my opinion they enjoy what they're doing and very accommodating. The ambience is very cool, I like it very much. The lamb chops sizes were not consistent. There was a big difference from one size to the others, the taste was great though and very moist, that's what I like with lamb chops. You should try when you are around the area.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant serves the best fried calamary ever trust me on it! There are thick juicy tender crispy and it comes enough to feed at least two people as an entrée. My husband and I also shared a two sticks of chicken souvlaki plate but I must admit that I've had better elsewhere. Service is friendly and the ambiance is ok. Keep in mind that it's cash only. There an interact machine in the basement where the restrooms are but with all the extra fees, just be sure to carry some money on you.

Yelp
Marven's One of the best Greek restaurant Location: The location is kinda awkward. You enter into a residential area with a large school nearby. The feel of "one of these thing doesn't belong here" pops into mind when looking at this restaurant. Strictly on street parking. Beware of the Montreal signs as they may be confusing. Also when winter hits, parking is cut to half. 3/5 stars Atmosphere: If you've been at a cabane a sucre/sugar shack, it has the same feeling. Depending if they are busy, you maybe seated next to complete strangers. And when I mean next, I don't mean next table, shoulder to shoulder. 4/5 stars Service: I've been to this place several times. And never once had bad service. Nor do I see waiters being rude to visitors to the city. Hostess alway polite, they alway spot on the wait time. It does get busy at times, but the staff is very efficient at clearing tables. Note to self, they do not take reservations for small groups, first come first serve. 5/5 stars Food: The quality of food has not changed. Although the portion may have slightly changed, I can't complain, the food is to die for. Most people go there to try the calamari, and yes it is amazing, must try. One thing I do order on a regular basis is the girlies squid. And my wife's favorite, the lamb chops! I am drooling just thinking about their food. 5/5 stars Price: Well reasonably priced. For 3 dishes and a side, you're looking to pay about $40-$50. I don't know if they take plastic? Since I've been going there, I've always paid cash. Also I think there's a ATM in the basement next to the washroom. 4/5 stars Overall: This is one place you need to stop when in Montreal. Great food, great people! 4/5 stars Follow me for more pictures on: Instagram: 905japes Twitter: 905Japes

Yelp
Marven's is like that ugly girl from school that has a "je ne sais quoi". Everybody knows she's ugly, but there something her about her that attracts you. Maybe it's her famous Calamari, or grill meats, or even her sweet ass cheese cake -- who knows. Even after she got work done on her herself (renovations), she's still not the prettiest, but our lust for her is still there.

Parnian E.

Yelp
The restaurant itself was amazing, the servers were friendly, the food was amazing(particularly the lamb chops), and the atmosphere was great. However, make sure to have your debit or credit card with you because it is cash only!!
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
Went there the other day with some friends and my family; wife and kids. It is a bit crowded to sit comfortably with kids but we did fit well. The menu is diverse and you have some nice options. We have ordered the fried Calamari and it was really fresh and tasty. As for the other dishes, they were good but not amazing. The food generally is good and this is why I am giving this place a 3 star. The service is nice and they were good, not a big smile but they were good. Be ware that they do not accept cards and only cash, so be prepared, unless you want to pay extra bank fees to use their ATM machine. You try it and you be the judge.

Yelp
Perhaps the best tzatziki I have ever had. Great prices lead to long line ups. In the middle Of a residential hood. I didn't quite get the "universal sauce".

Yelp
Listen, this place use to be great. It was a no frills straight up Greek/American Tavern with old school booths. We all know and love what I'm talking about. Just for the record the spanakopita and the tiropita was decent. And the taramosalata and tzadziki was good. However the greek salad was awful and lazy. Iceberg lettuce and there was a few cores from the lettuce heads in their to make it really bitter. But the real kicker was the octopus. It was $27.00 for a plate that was on the smaller side and it was cut up as if for a child. I wasn't expecting this at a greek tavern. To my surprise it wasn't grilled like how greek restos usually serve it and what I was expecting. It was in this weird balsamic vinegar and way too much of it and you couldn't even taste octopus with little green capers mixed ? Wtf? It was no good. Not greek at all. Also, here we are in tomato season and the tomatoes in the salad were tasteless. My dad would have been ashamed for this place. To me and my friend it seemed like somebody bought this place or inherited it, hired a marketing consultant to make it more modern and changed into some cheesy chain looking atmosphere like the keg or like if winners was a resto. Vibe ruined. Oh yeah and they only take cash. Didn't notice any signs stating that fact. Last time i came to this place like 6 or 7 years ago with my wife we had a great time and the octopus was great. What happened marvens?
google avatar

Dimitri P.

Yelp
Nice place, clean and comfortable location. The service is quick and on point. The food is over priced and not good the next day but, I did enjoy it while it was hot. They charge about $5 CAD more for there plates then they should. I had the pork platter with generous semi dry amount of pork. The chicken had a nice flavor as did the pork but 25 CAD for a salad, fries, rice about 8-10 oz is shaved dry pork wasn't ideal , they do give you a lot of potatoes "French fries" but it's to make up for the price they cheat you on. 25 CAD+ Plus tax The calamari was excellent probably the best I've ever had in my life also the Greek sausage was fantastic as well., a little oily but it's to be expected I may or may not come here again but I will think twice before I do because, there's so many other places in the area that can offer something at half the price and almost just as good
google avatar

Juan L.

Yelp
This place lived up to the high expectations of having great calamari. You should also try the rib steak, not a bad deal for $27, you would not be disappointed!
google avatar

Patches O.

Yelp
I have been going to this place for fifteen years. Every summer we come back i visit at least once day. Driving by you would pass it if you didn't even know it was there. It's a little hole in the wall located in an residential area. The porc souvlaki is the best I've ever had. You get 2 sticks of porc, rice, fries and a Greek salad for around $11.00. The sauce they make is incredible, i put that all over my souvlaki, fries and rice. They use to serve sliced bread toasted with olive oil, lemon and oregano on it, loved it. The new bread basket does nothing for me. It gets crowded and the tables are all set family style, i don't care for that because you never know who is next to you. Other than that this place is a must for really good food. If you have to go use the bathroom downstairs make sure your under six feet, must have been built for trolls.
google avatar

Wayne W.

Yelp
Really like the way the lamb chops is grilled. Very tasty. Been there 3 times and love the steak as well. Especially the saltiness of the meat bring up the flavor of the dish. Recommend to meat lover. Definitely worth trying if you are near the neighborhood.
google avatar

Marek D.

Yelp
Nice Greek tavern but nothing extraordinary. We took calamari for a starter just half size because full is very big - more like a main dish. They are really good, fresh and crispy. But Greek salad is a mistake. There should be no lettuce in original Greek salad and more kalamata olives. In ours I found just 2 olives! And cheese wasn't original feta. Chicken souvlaki was just fine. Lamb chops - very good. Probably the best thing you can get there. But please... Lettuce in Greek salad? Only 3 stars from me :(
google avatar

Valérie B.

Yelp
I always heard about it, but I never went. I'm glad I finally did! That was the best chicken gyros I have ever had!! The chicken was so tender and juicy, I can't ask them to change anything. I can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Kathy P.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant when I have a calamari or lamb craving! I wouldn't say that it is the best restaurant for these, but their prices are competitive and the plates are huge! I can easily have leftovers for another meal when I eat there. One down side is that they don't take reservation and the restaurant is always crowded! So if you wanna avoid waiting in line, gotta go there early. They use to take cash only, but now they also accept credit card, woohoo! If you go there, must try their calamari and lamb chops!

C P.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place so we checked it out. The restaurant itself is not much to look at but the food was amazing Had the calamari and the octopus salad. Will be back from Toronto just for the octopus salad

Jade P.

Yelp
My friend took me here and I loved this place. I wish they can bottle their special sauce!

Yelp
This place has a very special place in my heart. I've been coming here for over 4 years and I've really got to see this place grow and renovate. It should get a 5-star but as of recently, I feel like there's something going on with the food. Not in a bad way, NO ONE is poisoning anybody! I think I come here once every 5 weeks since their food is so addictingly delicious but I my most recent experience, their lamb chops are getting extremely tiny. I remember how much larger in size they use to be, but now it can't fill up my dad. Their standard greek salad also changed a bit, I believe they might've used different greens, but I feel it was lacking a lot of dressing and flavour (since they are using different greens). My caesar salad as well, normally I never have an issue and I'm just guessing this is only going to happen once, but my salad was premade long before I ordered it and was left in the fridge until I ordered. Honestly, I wasn't too impressed and would have said something, but I had a feeling it would only happen this one time. Plus I love this place so much, it's a little hard for me to hate it. But I think for a while I won't be going back too soon. Their greek salad and their lamb chops really changed.

Yelp
Best fried calamari in Mtl!!! That's it, That's all. The place is always packed. cash only, cheap, large portions and quick service. Not my favorite gyro because the tzatziki sauce was too tangy and not salty enough for me, but that's personal preference. It is one of the best deals in town. Now take it and go...
google avatar

Rajaa A.

Yelp
Just love the Calamari and the lamb chops And the service is good As the Price is fair
google avatar

Irfan A.

Yelp
Greek food that's authentic, appetizing and tastes as good as it looks. The bread which is given to start with could use a little more effort, but that's okay if you're good with adding some of Marven's sauce which is a sour/savoury blended mildly hot sauce. The Greek salad is above average, which comes with most dishes. The lamb chops here are phenomenal and my favourite is the whole chicken platter which just tastes fantastic and is good for 2 hungry people. The calamari is one of my favourite Greek style ones. They only take cash, and I always forget to bring cash, but there is an ATM at the location.
google avatar

Ali A.

Yelp
During my trip to Montreal, my friends and I ate dinner here. The place was packed but they were able to seat our group of 8 quickly. If someone said we were eating at Marven's, I would've assume it was an American restaurant, not a Greek restaurant. It literally looks like they bought the place from a steakhouse and they didn't have time to redecorate the Canadian place. There were moose heads on the wall and a picture of Justin Trudeau. We ordered lamb chops, calamari, tzatziki, and spanikopitas. Greek salads came and so did the bottomeless bread. Spanikopitas get a 3/5, not crispy enough for me. Tzatziki was lovely (so 5/5 cause how can you mess it up). Calamari was delicious and deserves a 5/5 since it really hit the spot for dinner on a cold December night. As for the lamb chops, it was good but it was odd. It didn't taste like lamb to me. Not sure why and for that they get a 4/5. Marven's gets a 4/5 because of their large portions, yummy food, and bottomeless bread. It would be nice to get quicker service since the waitresses and waiters seems so busy. They were kind when you got their attention but it was hard to call them over. The portions are huge so think about sharing a plate.

Yelp
The calamaris were amazing, the chicken and pork souvlakis and gyro meat were all tasty and actually very good. But the service was just horrible. Not only did our waitress basically ignore us. I ordered the Gyro Mix which is one gyro pita and one chicken pita. She told me they were out of chicken souvlakis but I could get a pork one. no problem. I get my plate. I have one chicken pita and one pork. No gyro meat at all. I dint complain because I'm not the type. But still.... I don't get why she had to lie. My boyfriends gyro plate was amazing though. Also the calamari entree is tiny! For $15 we were all very surprised to see how small the plate was. Also they still do not take cards. Beware I saw some reviews that said they did... but they dont. Also the place is horribly loud and crowded.

Yelp
Much better in the past ... today the food is way too salty I enjoyed the food last night, but when I got home, I was soooo thirsty and so was my guest. We had not noticed how salty things were until 1/2 an hour later. Is this necessary. Have been going here since 1977. Update. We went for the calamari and it was not the same. Dry and papery. What happened. Still salty. Lamb chops were very tasty, fries and rice were cold and rice looks like it had been made in the morning and sitting all day.

Yelp
Ok, I agree... food is great here! Good place for adults only! Not a good place to go with kids! They don't even have a proper space to change your baby! If you're a large group (like a big family) there's no way you can make reservation. So you have to wait in line! Especially when you go with kids or/and old people... it becomes difficult. Staff is NOT friendly (usually restaurant is full and there's no host like other places... which means waiters are busy and rude) You can only pay ca$h!
