"When it comes to date night, Gracias Madre can be appealing in theory. Until you realize that that twinkling patio of theirs is dominated by large groups of 23-year-olds who are mostly concerned with Cardi B and facial contouring. If you want real peace tonight, go to Marvin. The small French restaurant on Beverly feels like you’re having dinner at your friend’s apartment, with a fantastic wine list, good food (get the jamon tomato toast), and a lively atmosphere where you can still hear the person across from you." - brant cox
"Marvin is an actually-cool neighborhood wine bar on Beverly where you go when you don’t want to deal with manic crowds or 25-year-olds chugging vodka cocktails at 6pm. The space feels like a century-old sidewalk cafe in Paris, and there’s a daily Happy Hour from 6-7pm that includes $10 wine glasses and $6 beer. They also serve a very solid food menu largely composed of things you want to eat while drinking wine." - brant cox
"The neighborhood French bistro on Beverly is currently doing their regular dinner menu (the rigatoni bolognese and jamon toast are musts), as well as a “Marvito” menu, which features dishes like burgers, tacos, and even chicken tender baskets. And there’s plenty of to-go wine as well. Available for both takeout and delivery." - brant cox
"Marvin should be busier than it is, but we’re not going to complain, because this wine bar and restaurant has become one of our go-tos for first dates. The neighborhood spot in Beverly Grove has a great wine list and solid food (get the rigatoni Bolognese), and a space that feels welcoming, like a cool friend’s dining room. A visit to Marvin isn’t crazy expensive, either, so it’s an ideal choice if you don’t want to invest in a date with someone you suspect didn’t write that hilarious Tinder bio themselves." - jess basser sanders, brant cox, kat hong, brett keating
"For anyone who lives within a half-mile radius of Beverly and Crescent Heights, Marvin is your Cheers. For anyone else, this is a French bistro with food good enough to drive across the city for, and an atmosphere that’ll make you wish you had something similar in your neighborhood. Things can get a little pricey here (most entrees are over $38), so we recommend coming in to aggressively snack instead of throwing down for a three-course meal. Just make sure you’re snacking on all of their toasts." - brant cox, sylvio martins
