An Allentown institution since 1959, known for never selling day-old doughnuts and for fastnacht season lines out the door. Often praised by local lifestyle editors, it’s a sweet slice of neighborhood tradition.

Things to Do in Allentown (2025)
Mary Ann Donut Kitchen

Jeremy A.

Google
Been on my list to try for awhile and I’m glad I finally stopped by! Tried a half dozen donuts and all were fresh and flavorful. Honestly, the standard glaze was my favorite. So airy and fresh. Can’t wait to go back and try more.

Kyle B.

Google
I’ve been getting donuts here since I was a little kid! This place has one of the best powder donut with cream filling. They offer a good variety of donuts and sometimes sell out later in the day so go early. They also sell their donuts at the allentown fairgrounds. Old fashioned but make their donuts very different compared to anywhere else. Their cream filling is so light and sweet, it’s nothing like any donut you’ve probably ever had.

Google
Probably not the best donuts I've EVER had but close enough, and certainly the best I've had in Allentown. Some reviews I read on Yelp from people of color said they've been treated badly here, but I've seen no evidence of it myself, other than the person behind the counter being a little short with anybody and everybody.

Lakshmanan P.

Google
Mary Ann's makes donuts and coffee. That's it. Nothing else. But, the donuts are undoubtedly the best I have ever had in the greater Philadelphia area. Freshly made, they melt in your mouth, neither too sweet nor bland. Worth the drive, if you think you've had better..

Amber B.

Google
Whenever I bring donuts into work, I choose Mary Ann as they're the best in Allentown. Unlike Duck, which is a chain, Mary Ann is a hometown business and I choose to spend my dollars to support the family owned businesses, rather than the chains. Mary Ann's never disappoints and often, no one's even heard of 'em, but once they try 'em ..I see happy coworkers. I, myself, do not eat them but I know where to go for the best in the Valley. Thx Mary Ann's for your many years of dedication.

Amanda D.

Google
I love this place! Traditional PA donuts, no frills, just awesome fresh donuts. To the woman who operates the espresso machine, thank you for making very good drinks and for not over steaming the milk!! Truly the best flat white and cappuccino in the Valley.

Jennifer V.

Google
“Simply the best”? YES! Delicious donuts- worth the stop if you’re in the Lehigh Valley. The vanilla iced is my favorite- since the donut itself is a cinnamon swirl (light cinnamon) $16 for a dozen or $1.50 each. You won’t be disappointed.

Berta C.

Google
The best Donuts ever! At our works everyone is talking highly about Mary Ann place, and it was true! We just love it and recommend it.

Barbara B.

Yelp

Yelp
Love the LATTES & donuts aren't bad either! Very friendly place - convenient location for me.

Yelp
These are the best doughnuts of all time. Soooo fresh and delicious, not really any gimmicky flavors--they just do the classics incredibly well. My husband and I always try to make excuses to come to Allentown from our home in NYC so we can make a stop and pick up at least two dozen doughnuts. I only make it out like once a year but look forward to so much it bc they really are fantastic. It's always busy but the ladies get through the line quickly and in good spirits. I can't say enough good things! My faves are the glazed pretzel twist and pb&j.

Yelp
First time here! Our friends said we have to go get some Mary Ann's! Surprisingly at 9am, they still had a lot to choose from! Our friends, which are local, said it's usually a few to choose from. So I lucked out! We got a few varieties and I always get a maple something donut. The service was quick as there were only one other customer as the time. Small place, but warm and sugary lol. I had it when we got back and it was very satisfying until I bit into something hard. It was a piece of bacon! Thankfully I'm not a vegetarian, but maybe place the maple and maple bacon apart? My friend is a vegan and thankfully she didn't decide to try a maple one. Overall, will definitely return when I visit Allentown!

Yelp
Probably not the best donuts I've EVER had but they were close enough, and certainly the best I've had in Allentown.

Yelp
Inexpensive donuts always a good thing But so many of these places are now in every city across the country. And yes these are the lowest price donuts you'll ever come across. But they just don't stack up to the $3-4 donuts elsewhere.
google avatar

Richard R.

Yelp
This was our first visit to this donut shop. We bought a half dozen of vanilla and chocolate frosted. The donuts were delicious and very fresh. The store was simple and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Josias C.

Yelp
The cronuts are a unique product worthy of trying. Best options are first thing in the morning before selling out. The ladies are generally helpful and sweet unless the store gets busy.

Joyce B.

Yelp
Donuts are great,So many great variety's..Place is really clean.coffee takes really good.Ladies that work there are so sweet.

Dennis A.

Yelp
Fast, delicious, fresh donuts. We would order online next time just because it looked more convenient. The employees were very nice and we will definitely be back when we are in the neighborhood.

Jean W.

Yelp
Agree with the comment about the nasty stuff in their jelly filled products. It is not good, and whatever they call it, it is not jelly. Also, I really miss their sticky buns and crumb buns. When I questioned about them, I was told there is no demand for them. I highly doubt that as they were perfection. Their donuts are worth every calorie! Just delicious.

Linda H.

Yelp
The best donuts in the Valley! So many to choose from, fresh and delicious. Give the pretzel donuts a try.

Judi B.

Yelp
The donuts are fresh, delicious, and very nicely priced. The only downside is that for any of their jelly filled donuts the filling is a gel rather than true jelly. Their peanut butter and jelly donut in particular would benefit from real strawberry or grape jelly or jam. They are incredibly busy in the the morning and, especially on weekends, you need to be there early to get some of the more popular donuts.

Jonah R.

Yelp
The donuts are delicious! The elderly lady at the front was also very kind and polite to me and my children. I have heard about some reviews about how they are racist, but being a Puerto Rican person whose dad is white (So I turned out white skinned) they were very kind to me. Overall, the food and service was amazing, and that glaze donut is perfect.

Yelp
Hard to find something bad about this place honestly. We went later in the morning so they were sold out of some of the more popular or unique flavors so I guess if that's a negative, that's the one. Aside from that, there isn't much. The women working inside were all very friendly and helpful. One preferred the chocolate donut and one preferred the vanilla...so I got both. Samantha wanted to try the chocolate peanut butter so we grabbed one of those too. The flavor and quality of the donuts themselves was very solid. I couldn't choose between the vanilla and chocolate, I enjoyed them both a lot, and equally. The Chocolate Peanut Butter was also very good with some PB pumped into the center. Prices were competitive...would go back for sure. Mary Ann Donut Kitchen - Didn't Suck!

Yelp
Mary Ann Donut Kitchen is a great local spot in Allentown for some fresh donuts. They have a great variety of donuts in the morning, which I'm sure many of which run out before they close up shop for the day. While not the best I've had, the donuts are still very solid and taste much better and fresher than chain stores. The chocolate glazed and cinnamon donuts (4/5) were crunchy and packed a decent (but not great) flavor, but not as moist as some of the 5-star-worthy places I've been. The ladies that work there are super friendly and on top of their game in getting patrons in & out quickly with their donut selections. The only minor negatives are that not all the donuts are labeled and there is a $10 minimum to use a credit card. Overall, it's a place I'd definitely return to satisfy a donut craving.

Yelp
DIY donuts are really the only way I'm not into those chain donut stores that's all trash if you want a donut you gotta go get the real thing from a small shop in the corner of a strip mall just like this one! When I want donuts I just want donuts nothing else will do so when that time comes I find a spot like this one and it's totally on! My first pick was the vanilla frosting one it was super yummy and true to what it was just the way it should be in all its delicious donut form! My second one was the pretzel twist as any type of glazed twist was my go to back when I was little as I would untwist them and make bracelets out of them so if I don't get a twist the little girl that I once was would be very disappointed in the adult version of her so it always a twist when they are there this twist was yummy just the way it should be! The apple crumble was probably my least favorite of the few that I got as I didn't really like the crumble too much maybe it was because I was still stuck on how delicious the ones before it were but either way it was still delicious in it's own way! The last of the donuts were the PB&J it definitely was what it says it was as you could taste both elements very much so tell the very end! All of these donuts were super fresh super good and not to mention the dough they were made out of them was totally awesome in every way you could think of as it didn't matter what one you got they were all good! Overall this was a super yummy small little donut shop that is definitely doing it right in every way possible who knows if I'll ever get here again but if I'm in the area and craving donuts I totally know where to go again!

Krisdaliz D.

Yelp
Me and my boyfriend went there, and they looked at us as if we didn't belong there while we were looking at donuts VERY FEW donut selectioN they literally didn't even have much AND IDK HOW SHE EVEN STILL MESSED UP MY ORDER BUT the Way they just starred at us was uncomfortable EVEN AFTER I STATED WHY IS ALL THESE PPL LOOKIN and even after I order it still was weird! AND BTW I GOT A WHOLE BOX OF Donuts! just save your money somewhere not racist!!!

Al A.

Yelp
Recently moved from AZ and was looking for a local donut bakery. Donuts were great. Will be back soon.

Becky W.

Yelp
Fresh donuts, friendly staff. We will be back - worth the trip. Parking was great, too.

Yelp
Being in business for over 60 years says a lot , last summer , I was surely surprised to see two cases of donuts on my kitchen counter in my Nashville apartment , hand delivered after a 12 hour delivery by hand "Simply the best "
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Wow!! Dunkin' Donuts should hide their head or they should come to this place to learn how to make donuts! Wow. I haven't had a good doughnut in a while . I got the pretzel sized glazed and the apple. They close at one and they were very few donuts left, which tells you something. I guess I could tell you that they don't make enough donuts, but I'm sure that what they really telling you is there's a big demand for quality! And the staff is very hospitable, unfortunately, an exception to the rule it seems nowadays unfortunately I live 2 1/2 hours away, but would be tempted to make the trip. That's how good they are.
google avatar

Abda L.

Yelp
Delicioso. Absolutely great donors and pastries. We will go again for a dozen donuts.
google avatar

Manny D.

Yelp
Amazing donuts!! Freshly made and the taste is truly unique. Once you walk it you can smell it! I got 2 bags for my flight home. The chocolate was delicious and moist. Great chocolate flavor! Highly recommend this location if you're in the area! Don't miss out :)

Ken M.

Yelp
I was in Allentown for two arbitrations. They are held at the bar association. When I asked people where to go to grab something, not a meal, everyone recommended Mary Ann Donut. They were right. The donuts are an excellent compromise between yeasty ( think Krispy Kreme) and caky (think plain or New England cut). Even at 11:00 a.m. people were buying dozens at a time. Admittedly, it was limited selection at that time.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
That absolutely best doughnuts in the Lehigh Valley if not the entire Commonwealth of PA. Made fresh every morning and if you don't get there very early in the morning the best flavors will be long sold out. They have special flavors that rotate in as weekend specials. I always buy a dozen and usually have eaten two before I leave the parking lot. Simply the best and the staff is top notch as well, friendly and so helpful. I drive 40+ minutes roundtrip for their delectable treats.
google avatar

Rose D.

Yelp
The donuts are delicious. They run out very quickly though because of their popularity and or they don't make enough. The staff are not very friendly

Dennis D.

Yelp
These donuts are just Stuuuupid!!! When I say that I really hope you know I mean they are of the most legit donuts I've ever had in my 58 years! Mary Ann's has permanently ruined any other donuts that most people are used to!!!
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Freshly made powdered doughnuts from Mary Ann's Donut Kitchen are among my son's sweet weaknesses, and it's not hard to understand why. They're made fresh and if you time it right, they're still warm early in the morning. With a little ice cold milk, and you're in heaven. Not the breakfast of champions and I wouldn't recommend making a daily ritual out of it, but once a week or so isn't a mortal sin either. The locals stand in line for the doughnuts, so they must be pretty good. Some the regulars have been coming here for years and the owners know their order even before they get to the counter. Go here when you're at the Allentown Farmer's Market and enjoy the freshness!

Yelp
We searched on yelp for nearby yummy donuts and found a few great reviews for Mary Ann Donut Kitchen! I want to add another and hope for a zillion more, because this place is AMAZING. We like to try different donuts in towns we are visiting and MADK is now in our top 2! First off you walk in and are greeted by hard working charm. The owners/bakers were so sweet and helpful. The donuts were just outstanding! Top faves: pb & J was on a level I've never experienced before. The peanut butter icing is so creamy, not sugary, light and delicious. Then the donut itself also light, buttery, soft and not heavy. And that jelly center. So much goodness. Next we ate the glazed pretzel, what a fun twist! We couldn't get enough. Soft pillows of glazed donut glory in each bite. Next we had the chocolate frosted and vanilla frosted which was a cinnamon roll and holy holy this was Devine. Ended with a sprinkled and was just as good. Not sure what is being done to these donuts, but if you want high quality taste MADK is a must. We will be back!! Their motto is "Simply The Best" and it ain't no joke. Until I can return, we will be dreaming about these donuts! Thank you for your hospitality and might delicious donuts.

Yep very good real donuts not like Dunkin! My favorite thing is the butterfly!!! I like to think there's no calories as I lick my fingers lol

Mike T.

Yelp
The best donuts in the world. I crave these donuts even when I don't want them. If you're looking for a tasty hobby, stop by they'll take real good care of you.

Yelp
Hands down the best donuts in the valley. There are other places that come close, but Mary Ann's is the GOAT.
google avatar

Deborah C.

Yelp
Went to the Fairgrounds and stopped there in the late afternoon. They would not sell me donuts because they were past their prime, made that morning. SO THEY GAVE THEM TO ME.... Great donuts. I usually to their regular shop when I am in Allentown.

Kerri D.

Yelp
Amazing donuts!!! Go early or order ahead online. We went at 10:30 on Saturday and there were only a few donuts left. The donuts we did get were fresh and delicious.
google avatar

Unknown p.

Yelp
They have limited options but the sweets are really good. It's located in a really convenient place too.
google avatar

Liz B.

Yelp
Delicious, delicious, delicious. I don't know what else to say. They are so fresh. Every bite! I got one that was filled with creme and it was so delightful. They also have some other baked good available. If it was only a little closer to my house I'd probably be there more often. They are probably the best donuts in the Lehigh Valley. And the people that work at the Fairgrounds Farmers Market stand are so nice .
google avatar

Kemmy P.

Yelp
Great and different varieties available. Very creative and also very good! The best in town!
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Great little donut shop. Found it on accident, but now I go every year that we visit Muhlenberg college since it's right down the road. They have some amazing flavors. We always get more than we need, but that's okay because we have a long drive home and the next day to eat them lol. It's small and busy, but it is worth a stop. Get in there and get your donut on!

Marta T.

Yelp
OMG, OMG! Mary Ann Donuts are THE BEST DONUTS ANYWHERE! Bar none! They have so many varieties and flavors. Peanut butter and jelly is one of our favorites, but they're all good.

Joe N.

Yelp
I have been eating these donuts since I was a kid. Walking to school stop by buy a few for the rest of the way. Still has the same great Taste and found a few new flavors they had to offer even more exciting. Highly recommended!!
google avatar

John Y.

Yelp
So this place has been around for my whole life and plus some I used to go here every Sunday after delivering newpapers as a child. Been gone a few years and came back , and wow the dougnuts has not changed The chocolate and the white iced are to die for. If I could some how ship them back to Vegas weekly I would.

Carolyn M.

Yelp
Good donuts. I think another donut shop is good but these just have a special something about them.
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
The best donuts in the Lehigh Valley. This donut shop is an institution. I don't care about the chain donut shops named after water fowl, I swear by Mary Ann's. Peanut Butter and Jelly I am partial to, but I do love the original chocolate covered Jenny very much. The service is always very chipper in the early morning hours, and very quick. The ladies in there are masters of customer service. These donuts are one of my ultimate comfort foods. One bite, and you just plain feel better about everything.
google avatar

Dean R.

Yelp
The best donuts...crullers a must...danish...kronuts are fantastic...family owned...opens7am
google avatar

Keith B.

Yelp
There is not a lot to say about Mary Ann's. They have been around forever and make some fantastic donuts. If you have a sweet tooth you gotta go. My go to is the filled cronut. It is a flaky crispy croissant filled with the most delicious vanilla cream. Its hard to describe. It's not exactly a pudding cream but it's also not like an icing cream. It's just amazing. You need to try it right now. Stop reading and go get one!
google avatar

Ken L.

Yelp
located this on yelp, had very high ratings. glad to see yelpers were honest about this place, great donuts! nice selection, didn't spend too much time choosing, let the friendly counter gal choose for me. She did great job, everyone snarfed them up quickly, leaving an empty box! Pretty reasonable too, only about a buck apiece when buying by the dozen. will have to go back again soon, well worth the stop! thanks!

Es K.

Yelp
WARNING extremely grumpy & unfriendly staff, especially if you're people of color
