"The future of Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters is unclear, according to a report by What Now Atlanta (WNA). For now, at least, it appears as if the restaurant may be closed. Calls to Mary Hoopa’s by Eater Atlanta after 4 p.m on Wednesday and Thursday, when the restaurant should be open, went unanswered. The lights were off and doors were locked upon a visit to the restaurant at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening and at 7 p.m. on Thursday — Valentine’s Day and the furniture is now gone. "One Eared Stag chef Robert Phalen finally debuted his long-awaited second restaurant in East Lake, Mary Hoopa’s House of Fried Chicken & Oysters. The restaurant’s opening at the Hosea + 2nd complex was pushed back several times over the course of 2017. The restaurant’s name is inspired by the caretaker of Phalen’s mother-in-law, Mary Hoopa, who often cooked what the chef calls “yard-to-table” meals; including the fried chicken for which Phalen has become known at his Inman Park restaurant One Eared Stag. The bright and open dining room seats up to 54 people with an oyster bar in the front of the restaurant, another bar toward the back entrance, and tables throughout which can seat between two and eight people. A back deck seats an additional 32 people and will be open during the warmer months. Beverages at Mary Hoopa’s, located next door to Poor Hendrix, include beer, wine, sparkling wine, and champagne as well as beer-centric cocktails from Mikey Kilbourne, One Eared Stag’s beverage director." - Beth McKibben

The restaurant located in the Hosea + 2nd development in East Lake is officially open for business. The 2300-square-foot restaurant designed by Atlanta’s Square Feet Studio serves three types of fried chicken (house fried, hot, and sweet) by the half or whole bird, raw and grilled oysters, a fried chicken sandwich, and snacks such as a clam lettuce wrap, boiled peanuts, and chipotle and Serrano pepper wings. The beverage menu includes beer, wine, and champagne as well as beer-centric cocktails. Mary Hoopa’s bright and open dining room seats up to 54 people with an oyster bar in the center of the room. A back deck will seat an additional 32 people during the warmer months. Mary Hoopa’s is currently BYOB while awaiting the final approval of their liquor license. Eater Atlanta has learned the license could be approved as soon as the end of this week.
