Our favourite cocktail bar in Hobart. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Fantastic cocktails and there is food from Peppina next door. Bookings highly recommended

We use to LOVE this bar... But today we took out of town visitors and it was so disappointing 😞 The venue is beautiful but the cocktails were meh and the service that made it amazing sitting with the bartenders was below average. $5/glass of water, which we never asked for. The soul is gone and the exceptional cocktails are not worth price. So sad to lose our go to cocktail bar.

Tucked secretly inside the Tasman Luxury Hotel, Mary Mary is a shhhhhh secret spot with speakeasy vibes. The ambiance is rustic charm with dim lighting and cozy nooks. It offers a mix of small plates. Their pizza fritta is a revelation — light, airy, and perfectly crisp. The scallops were impressive, seared to perfection and paired with a delicate sauce that complemented without overpowering also served in a shell. The ensalada offered a refreshing contrast. Crunch and lovable. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. Drinks were great.

Our group of 10 (dinning next door after, we had hoped, drinks) we literally turned away on the evening of April 6 because we were too many people. That was sort of okay but the female staff member on the door that dealt with us needs training. Arrogant and “snooty” is the best way to describe the behaviours. Not wanting business is one thing, being rude is another. In summary, best to book (if they will have you) and hope your experience is better than ours.

Beautiful sandstone walls. Seriously beautiful. But would it kill staff to smile? For a high end bar, it was perfunctory and lacking in a personal touch. Happy to visit for a drink, but also very happy to move on. Nothing inviting us to stay.

We stayed at the Tasman and went to Mary Mary three out of the four nights we stayed there. The service was really poor or non-existent for most of the time, which was really disappointing considering how expensive the place is, and how good we found the Tasman and Peppina. The bar tender was rude and refused to take drink orders, insisting that the venue was "table service", even though we had been trying to order a drink for 10 minutes. The last night we waited at the door for 3-4 minutes and wound up walking out without being acknowledged or seated. Thankfully there are a number of bars that are cheaper, similar quality and with much better service within walking distance.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I was really disappointed by my experience at Mary Mary. My partner and I had just finished a great dinner at Peppina and thought we’d head through the connecting entrance for a cocktail to finish the night. We hadn’t been before and entered through the back entrance, not realising there was a process to be seated. When we approached the bar, a staff member asked if we were right. We said we were just figuring things out, and the response we got "Do you have a table?" followed by "Well, go to the front then" was really abrupt and left us feeling pretty uncomfortable. It wasn’t clear what the set-up was, and we were made to feel like idiots for not knowing how it worked. I completely understand if it’s a table service only venue, but a more welcoming explanation like “Hi there, we’re a table service bar, if you head to the front someone can help you find a seat” would have made all the difference. After that interaction, we decided not to bother asking for a seat and went elsewhere for a drink. First impressions matter, and unfortunately, this one wasn’t great.
