Hard Rock Hotel Offers Free and Discounted Meals for First Responders and Hospitality Workers | Eater San Diego

"At the Hard Rock Hotel San Diego's all-day restaurant, Maryjane's, I found it is still open for takeout and has launched several support initiatives: on Monday, April 6 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. the eatery is giving away to-go meals to any uniformed first responders — including SDPD, San Diego Fire-Rescue, and San Diego-area paramedics — and eligible persons should call Maryjane's at (619) 764-6947 and identify themselves as a first responder when placing orders. Throughout April they are also offering a special $5 menu (burgers, salads, breakfast items and more) for hospitality and medical workers with proof of employment (pay stub, business card, etc.), and they are encouraging support for other local restaurants by offering a free milkshake if you bring a receipt from any restaurant in the 92101 zip code into the Hard Rock within 48 hours of purchase." - Candice Woo

Fun items on menu Lots of drink options with a full bar. Lots of beer & wine choices. Free refills on soda BALT (bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato) was delicious and included freshly made potato chips. Yummy. Milk shakes looked great but I stuck with soda. We had a leisurely time. Also visited the Hard Rock Hotel and bought shirt, hat & guitar pin. Tons of fun 🤩

Mary Janes is part of the Hard Rock and the decor is what you’d expect. Very nicely done inside. The server was very sweet and always checked on us. Even gave me a cup of coffee to go. The oatmeal was creamy and delicious. The fruit is fresh and the yogurt was on point. I really enjoyed the food and I’m sure you will too.

Goofy Goobers Grub aka MaryJane’s in the Hard Rock Hotel is the closest to the Krusty Krab dinning as you are going to get in Downtown San Diego. The Hard Rock Hotel is Sponge Bob themed in celebration of the show’s 25th anniversary and the famous 2024 Comic-con International. While the decor is definitely the star of the show, the food is your classic American diner fare – burgers, fries, and the like. It’s comfort food with a side of Bikini Bottom. The all-day breakfast menu is a definite plus! I got the Pastrami Rueben and so glad I did! Service was a bit of a miss, but probably due to the restaurant’s popularity, during Comic-Con.

Google
Great place. It was jammed packed with the convention in town. Smaller menu higher priced. Team is a tad overwhelmed. We will have to try it during a week day. Lots of food and taste Great. Kid Friendly and out side seating. Limited parking. Recommended for a fast lunch or dinner.

Google
I was staying at HardRock hotel and went there for breakfast yesterday morning. The positive : very delicious food. Negative: staff was being trained and they were corrected pretty loudly so I always was “part of the conversation”. Having said that, I give 5 stars for the food and the ambiance. I was having breakfast at the bar. Good coffee. Everyone was friendly. I had an avocado toast. I recommend it.

Google
Had a great experience at Mary Jane’s for brunch during our visit to San Diego. The food was delicious and we enjoyed our mimosas! We ate outside and enjoyed a beautiful family brunch! Our server was very sweet and accommodating.

Google
Clean and attentive service. Food was good and like that breakfast is served all day. Do wish the bottomless mimosas were available weekdays as well. This place has great breakfast options, other items are a bit limited.

Had a yummy breakfast here with friends! Their food is iconic and yummy mashed into one! Highly recommend their French toast...so awesome!

Yelp
Our server was very polite and friendly. We asked about try popular items on the menu and what she recommended. She said the chicken sandwich from the secret menu was her favorite and recommended to get extra sauce! Which I did..and she was right! Soo good. We also got the emoji pancakes! Kids will love this. Super cute and you can never go wrong with pancakes The Cali Tots were also another dish we tried. I would order an over easy egg on top, next time but it was still good. The Country Benny, was delish. Can never go wrong with gravy and biscuits. The egg was not as runny as I wanted to be but it was still good. A MUST!! The cookie skillet! Warm cookie and icecream..soooo yummy! The dining area was very spacious. A lot of tables and booths to sit in. Very classic! They have an outdoor patio to dine in also to enjoy the SD sunlight. They also have a bar and some TVs around the area. Located in Downtown inside the Hard Rock hotel. Definitely a good spot to go to for brunch or before a Padres game.

Yelp
Ordered the BALT with homemade potato chips and found it very underwhelming. It lacked any real flavor, and the garlic aioli tasted like plain mayonnaise. The food felt extremely overpriced for the quality and taste, likely because of the location. The menu is also very limited. On the positive side, the service was decent and friendly, and the ambiance was clean and bright.

Yelp
This restaurant is located right next to the San Diego Convention Center, and it seemed like a convenient spot to grab lunch in between conference sessions. My hostess and waitress were awesome, and the diner vibe of the restaurant was fun. I ordered a mocktail which was pretty good. However, I waited about 45 minutes for my order of a *salad* and in the end, it ended up being disappointing - not worth the wait at all! By the time my food came out I was already running late for my next conference session and I only got to eat a few bites before taking the rest to-go, which I could barely bring myself to finish later because it didn't taste good. Very frustrating, and would not recommend coming here.

Yelp
Cute brunch spot in San Diego! We had originally planned to go elsewhere but walked by this cute diner and decided to stop in. The food was tasty and seating was ample. The chicken and waffles were the perfect balance between sweet and savory. The Elvis French Toast was a bit too loaded up on peanut butter which somewhat compromised the overall taste but was otherwise tasty. Would come again!

Yelp
This is a cool "diner" with a modern flair and fun vibe. The main entrance is on 5th Avenue, with a second entrance from inside the Hard Rock Hotel. The decor has a rock music theme, which is fun to look at the wall art. On the north side of the diner is a full bar and high top bar seating. The remainder of the seating is tables for two/four people or booths on the south side. You can request sidewalk seating, which is directly beside the archway leading to the Gaslamp District. This is a great place for people-watching and enjoying a good meal or drinks. By the hotel entrance, is a register for quick grab-and-go coffee, tea, muffins, fruit, yogurt, and snacks, etc. One of my favorite meals is Avocado Toast or Eggs Benedict with a crispy hash brown "cake" on the side. Walk-ins are welcome, the staff are welcoming and friendly. Don't forget to tell'em that Rosemary sent ya!

Yelp
Had brunch here last Sunday and we had a wonderful experience. Our waitress was great - super attentive and very pleasant. We were pleasantly surprised at the many options on their menu and although we came in at 930am, they were able to accommodate non-breakfast options. We ordered grilled cheese with tomato soup, fish sandwhich and Eggs Benedict with chicken and all of these dishes came with huge servings and were delicious! Thank you to Larry and to your staff for such wonderful service!
google avatar

Robert C.

Yelp
The service was very good. I was served by a very friendly male waiter who had a great sense of humor. It took quite some time to cook my Tijuana Benedict however so I deduct one star only for the prolonged waiting time. Also, my cappuccino was poorly made - excessive froth. However, the Mexican-style eggs Benedict had good flavor and texture. Plus, the restaurant ambiance was spacious and not loud.
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
We came here once for breakfast and another time for mid day drinks while we stayed at Hardrock. Drinks were strong! Each time we were seated quickly and service was prompt. A nice low key option in a laid back environment.

Yelp
Such a cute little diner! Service was excellent during lunch time. I ordered Fish & Chips and they were good but not great. It was a massive serving. I'd like to try their other food to have a well rounded review. Honestly the star of the show was the iced tea - it hit the spot on a hot day. I'll definitely be back when I stay at the Hard Rock since it's so convenient.

Yelp
The first thing I need to cover, the staff was understaffed yet the servers were delightful and they were as friendly as they could be. This is a management issue staffing properly. The ambience acceptable the place is clean It took over 24 minutes to get my cup of soup with me sitting at the lunch counter, not at a table. They have a prioritization problem. They prepare on how the orders came in instead of looking at the orders GET the easy ones out. The cup of chicken noodle soup, frankly was a salt lick, in fact a salt lick would have had less salt. I counted the little pieces of chicken in my Cup of soup, there were exactly 11 pieces and if you look at the photo, you can see the size of those little pieces. and it was more of a broth. It is a shame. I have written very, very few bad reviews. This matter had to be pointed out, especially paying $11+ for that little cup of soup and a soda. Plus this type of food preparation should not be tolerated in the Gas Lamp District which is a gathering place for the tourist who desire the San Diego culinary experience

Yelp
The service was great, cute atmosphere, bright and cheery. Looked like a great place for breakfast. Unfortunately I ordered Chiliquiles with scrambled eggs and my husband Eggs Benedict. My eggs were barely room temperature, not freshly prepared, and my husbands cold also so we both sent them back. My 2nd plate was no better! Made no sense to send another plate out with eggs that may have been cooked hours before and sat around to become cold. I left and went to Starbucks. My husband stayed and had his, they did at least give him 50% off his plate.

Yelp
Wow! Bad service, bad food, expensive for what it is ambiance is nice though! Bad choice, skip it!

Yelp
Yummy to our tummy. We needed a quick bite to eat and grabbed a Club Sandwich, Fries and Onion rings to share. We swapped out the mayonnaise for garlic aïoli. Boy was that a great swap out. The sandwich had a lot of meat and bacon. No skimping on the meat there. The fries were usual fries, but seasoned to perfection. The onion rings were very crispy and had a great onion flavor on the inside. We did ask for ranch and the ranch was very good. However, the chipotle aïoli was the best. We'd definitely eat at Mary Jane's again, when in San Diego!

Yelp
Great little place by the convention center for breakfast. Food was top-notch weight. Staff was even better great atmosphere best part just simply walk across the street.
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Expensive for pancakes, two eggs, sausage and bacon. I likely would have been less critical had they at least used real syrup vs corn syrup with chemicals. There are a few places down the street that have exceptional free range eggs, real syrup and pancakes.
google avatar

Louie V.

Yelp
I stopped by late and didn't have much time to eat, so I grabbed a bagel. Unfortunately, it was overcooked and tasted burnt. On the bright side, the restaurant itself has a nice and appealing atmosphere.

Yelp
This is your usual American Bar style restaurant. You walk in and there's a swanky bar to the left and plenty seating to the right and back of the restaurant. My buddy and I got seated at the bar. The staff behind the bar were really nice and fun to talk to. Very friendly bunch and were very helpful in helping me make my decision to order food. I got the Legendary Burger, medium rare. It was quite good, very big and juicy. I loved the onion rings in the burger. Not much different from your average American Diner food but still good nonetheless. I have to dock 2 stars because my buddy and I were overcharged for our bill by about 8-10 dollars each. I noticed the Suggested Tip calculation was totally off. I calculated it myself and just wrote it down. So I assume the someone automically just went to the suggested tip amount instead of actually inputting the tip I had put down.

Yelp
We went here for lunch and my mom and sister got the nachos. They had the fake squeeze cheese and some chopped tomato on stale tortilla chips. My mom's carne asada on top looked like cat poop. They were like gas station nachos, I could not believe they were served in the restaurant of the Hard Rock Hotel. Also the decor was "movie" themed, with cheap party city style decorations for a child's birthday party. We ate here last year when it was SpongeBob themed and the food and decor was great! HUGE dip in quality this year. Avoid!

Single Gal S.

Yelp
Nick did a great job taking care of us on the front patio during Comic Con. Travis was very quick in picking up anything we were done with. The two of them make a great pair and work really well together.
google avatar

Casey J.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken nachos. They were so gross. They had pump cheese on stale chips with jalapeño slices thrown on. The chicken was cold and bland. I expected better from a restaurant in the Hard Rock Hotel.

Kevin T.

Yelp
Stayed at the hardrock hotel and had breakfast here for 4 days. I got different items for takeout each day and it did not disappoint!
google avatar

EH K.

Yelp
Love the kids menu. We even got Messi stickers and poster! Friendly service and delicious food. Just wished they provided better quality condiments(their pancake syrup and jellies for toasts are made of high fructose corn syrup)

Yelp
Maryjane's is a breakfast option inside the Hard Rock hotel, which is located a couple blocks from Petco Park. On a regular Thursday in November, I was seated right away. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with eggs over easy - the dish was quite watery but with good flavors. Theres a layer of watery beans and then a layer of watery salsa. It needs either another tortilla or crispy chips because the dish feels sloppy and one dimensional. It comes with "mj's breakfast potato" which buyer beware, are not breakfast potatoes. Instead, it's a flattened manufactured potato patty that comes off the palate tangy and processed. At least with a McDonalds patty there is some crunchy and feeling with it. Next time I want to try the Chilaquiles because I heard someone else really like them. That's all.
google avatar

Bob R.

Yelp
I stopped by Maryjane's located across the street from the Bayfront in the heart of the Historic Gas Lamp District in San Diego. I'm not quite sure how, but they are definitely related to the Hard Rock Cafe franchise. The menu items are similar to their parent company with a few subtle variations that most but the ardent fans of The Hard Rock Cafe would notice. I ordered the Original HRC (no, not Hillary Clinton) burger. It was as expected, cooked to perfection and very good. I also opted for a side salad instead of fries as I'm trying to take a few extra pounds off in preparation for Summer. I really enjoyed it here and I'll definitely be back when I'm in town next time.

Yelp
This is a solid breakfast place we go to during San Diego Comic Con in July every year. They are spirited and friendly as a restaurant with welcoming nice staff The food is food and prices are reasonably fair..

Yelp
Going into the Gaslamp is like going to a Rock and Roll concert with the many people that are going to place and others trying to get to the many eateries and the pubs which can be the same things that you see at a concert when you see so many people the crowds. In the Gaslamp there is one place that you can go and have the best times with the flare of the 70s style the lighting with the many lights with the many pictures of the Rock and Roll singers it's the Hardrock around the corner you come to Mary Janes Restaurant with one of the best Starbucks that is close by there are many places you have with great food and some of the ones that have Karaoke on the weekends. Withy the Hard Rock Hotel there is one of the best restaurants which has the feel of the coffee shop feel when you come to the restaurant that gives you the feel of the coffee and the small bar feel. From the many coffees shop you do see the many bars' areas where you cand go and order food at and still have the best breakfast while you have the early morning breakfast cocktail with pancakes or to have a loaded burrito or the best pancakes, and the best waffles bacon with the best homemade sausage. MaryJane's is one restaurant where you can go and have the best food with the drink specials, they have bottomless mimosas on certain days the perfect breakfast drink with a great tasting coffee to wake you up in the morning. The many times that I have had breakfast at Mary Janes you could see the many dishes about the restaurant with the many patrons that were having the egg dishes bacon and eggs with toast many others having the waffles the best ones I have ever had great with the home-made sausage. Great customer service with such great food with the pancakes that I had tried it was one of the hardest choices yet with both combos some of the best in breakfast dishes. The menu of the Restaurant is a little pricey for somethings with certain dishes you do pay a good price and some plates you can get combos for low prices there are others can be little expensive. Mary Janes in the Gaslamp is the best location and the closeness to the Convention Center I see a lot of the conventioneers come to Mary Janes the best in burgers and the great burgers and the homemade Potatoe chips they make fresh livens a great combo where can you find homemade chips. The leather booths and the coffee shop feel it's like the way rocks stars get away and head over to a coffeeshop relaxing and having dinner. The Hard Rock is one of the best places to have such a fabulous restaurant after which they do have some of the personal guitars and the music of the beetles. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer with the love of Rock and Roll where the food is connected to a place that has music connects to the feel of coffee shop with a restaurant thrown you have the perfect rock and roll restaurant. Located in the heart of the Gaslamp and close to the San Diego Trolley on 5th Ave you can walk down and catch the trolley. Mary Janes Restaurant is one of the best with such great food and a great place to have groups and friends that you're meeting plenty of room in the restaurant. Like Sammy Haggar Best of both worlds its Mary Janes the best of Both Worlds.

Yelp
Standard selection, nothing crazy. My eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly but super bland hollandaise. Cute place. Convenient for conferences
google avatar

Gloria S.

Yelp
Service was great this am. She was efficient and nice. Our breakfast was pretty quick and she keep checking on us. Left us a carafe of coffee, so nice... efficient was calm and quiet.... nice place
google avatar

Margi P.

Yelp
It's definitely not the menu of the Hard Rock, but it's a solid diner--so expect that and you won't get disappointed. The legendary burger is legit and if you like Parmesan fries, you're in luck. Service was good and like New York, this diner has a full bar, so If you overindulged somewhere, the Bloody Mary might help--it was on point. Nothing spectacular, but not bad

Yelp
This place has such potential, but my friends and I did not have the best experience. We were downtown to celebrate at the Gaslamp Dog Festival over Christmas and by the time the pet parade was about to start we were starving. Our plan was to find a spot that we could eat lunch with our pups while watching the Pet Parade. We stumbled upon Maryjane's and the patio was fairly empty with plenty of room for our group and pups so we took a chance. They had a decent sized menu with breakfast and lunch options, so we figured there would be something for everyone. I opted for the classic club, and there were 2 or 3 other sandwiches ordered at our table. I kid you not, we ended up being 1 table of MAYBE 5 in the entire establishment and we were not only forgotten about on multiple occasions, we were sitting there for an exhorbiant amount of time. It does not take that long to make a couple of sandwiches, especially when the place is empty. We had to go in and ask them to please take our drink order, then go back inand ask them to please come take our food order, then go back in and ask for refills, and then go back in for the last time and ask if we could get our check to pay. Each time we had to go in, the overstaffed employees, were just standing around chatting it up and then almost acted like we were bothering them. The food was good enough, but the service was literally awful and we were very disappointed.

Yelp
Beautiful diner. Looks way better in person than in the pictures. Food was delicious. We got the potatoes well done. They were a little too well done but still good. Kelly gave excellent service! Was so kind and had a great attitude. Just an overall vibrant person. Brioche French toast with blueberries and strawberries, * not dry at all, the perfect moisture in the French toast* side of bacon, potatoes, eggs(which came a lil later than the photo) plus an omelette (spinach, onion, cheese) They have vanilla creamer for your coffee, just ask them Overall, it's a must try

Yelp
Stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel & decided to eat breakfast at their restaurant downstairs. It's a diner-style eatery that is open from 7am-3pm. Ordered their michelada with a modelo as well as their breakfast burrito. The waitress was really nice, patient, & personable. Would eat here again, but I'd likely try something else to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
Don't know what it is about this place, but it's money every time. Lots of options for food.... Only been there for brekkie... and no matter what I have, it's awesome. People there are always fantastic - great service, great attitudes, always friendly. Atmosphere is awesome... exactly what you would expect. Worth checking out. Great location, great place.

Holly M.

Yelp
It might have been the Worst service in my life. Not busy, bothering the staff to ask for coffee or anything really. Super woke hiring at its best.....
google avatar

Reed B.

Yelp
Maryjane's is the cafe style restaurant inside the Hard Rock hotel in San Diego and while I realize that we can't expect much from that type of place, usually the Hard Rock name provides a bit more quality. We went on an afternoon after a Padres game and it was almost completely empty. While we were seated promptly it took close to 15 minutes for anyone to come and take our order. We just had deserts and these were lower quality than what you would find at a chilis. Freezer burned taste and not worth the calories.

Lori B.

Yelp
One: terrible food, save your money. Second: there was a guy behind us working in what looked like a Rj booth almost, in the center of the restaurant? He was arguing with another employee VERY loudly. Was not professional to be having a relationship argument with a coworker in the middle of the restaurant cursing and raising voice while children are eating. Just a very tacky place to go that has terrible food. Would give a zero if it wasn't for the fact that the waitress was nice.
google avatar

Odulami B.

Yelp
I did not expect much but was pleased with this experience. I was looking for a quick breakfast before jumping on my shuttle and stumbled on this location on my way to another. The internal motif was eye-catching and the host was very polite, attentive andfriendly. Service was fast and my onlere was better than expected.

Yelp
Nice place to relax for an hour and cool off with a couple of Stone IPAs. I guess they don't have a Hard Rock Cafe anymore. I sat at the counter and received fast courteous service. The bar tender appreciated my attempts at Spanish,"Una Mas por favor!! I didn't eat so no food review.
google avatar

Aubrey W.

Yelp
I've been to this place 20 to 30 times in the past two years. The food is usually good enough, but the service is often pretty bad. The people waiting tables can be pretty lazy if you're sitting on the outdoor patio. So many times the hostess would seat me at the outdoor patio per my request, then I'd end up leaving after 10 minutes when no waiter would come out to even acknowledge that I was there. Come on people - stop acting like you don't realize a customer could be seated on the patio at any moment. Either you don't continuously check the patio, or you are aware that a custom is out there and you choose to ignore them. Either way, it's pretty bad service.

Yelp
Came here after spending the day at San Diego Comic Con with 5 others. Sorry, didn't take pics of the other people's food and this pic of the cheeseburger does not do it justice. Had a special menu bc of Comic Con. Standard breakfast and lunch items. Burger was really juicy and really hit the spot. Wait staff was really nice and attentive.

Cristina L.

Yelp
Have been waiting over an hour to eat. Food order not at all accurate. Waitress avoided us instead of updating us on the issue.
google avatar

Paula C.

Yelp
Came on a holiday and it wasn't busy. We were seated right away and the person working with the front was really nice. They have a lot of food on the menu that sounds really good. We ordered the Oreo pancakes, the carne asada omelette, and the slammy hammich. So the presentation of everything looks really good. But taste wise, the food was just ok. The carne asada in my omelette had the consistency and taste of ground beef more than carne asada. The one item k really liked from my meal was the potato cake. The other people I came with said their food was just ok as well. And although our server was nice enough, she kept walking by our table and aggressively putting things on it, almost slamming down items like the coffee, the jelly and our plates and would just walk away without saying anything. I'm sure it wasn't on purpose,'maybe things were heavy for her or something but it caught everyone's attention as it happened a few times so that was a little off putting.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Be careful they overcharge! Check your bill before paying. Dollar here dollar there .
google avatar

Angela F.

Yelp
We stayed at the hard rock and it was convenient to grab breakfast at MaryJanes. It was freezing inside the restaurant. The potato patty was bulky and flavorless. I was not impressed with the potato presentation.
google avatar

Dara W.

Yelp
Even though I was here for less than 15 minutes, I would say the place is 5/5 stars! I was working and just needed somewhere to grab quick food on my 15-minute break. There was no fast food within walking distance, so I came here. And wow, I'm so glad I stopped. I ordered carne asada fries because it was the first menu item that caught my eye. I asked if it would be fast and if not, I'd go. I let them know I was on my 15-minute break, and they were so nice about it. There were multiple hosts, and they were all kind and helpful. My carne asada fries came in 6 minutes tops! And wow, they were so good. Tasted great, the fries weren't soggy, and the meat was well seasoned. It had a great flavor. I loved it. Worth the stop. Great staff, atmosphere, and food can't get better than that.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here for breakfast. The wait was around maybe 20 to 30 minutes for five people in the morning. And the burger was delicious. It was cooked very well. The chips were very different. The food took extremely long to get to the table like way way more than it should have. We had to rush and eat because we had a commitment to go to that day. They were not a lot of people there might've been low staff.
google avatar

John O.

Yelp
Ok, where do I begin? The wait time wasn't bad. However, when seated, it took a very long time for the server, Erica, to actually show up at the table. She rushed by without saying anything and slammed one set of silverware down on the table...of two, without saying a word. After a long wait, our drink orders were taken. The server was MIA. She finally came back and took our order. After a long wait, the food arrived, brought by someone other than our server. The orders were incomplete. The server was nowhere to be found. Then she appeared and asked "you two need anything?" Turned away as we told her we did, and walked away. We still had just one set of silverware. As we sat in disbelief, a commotion began at a table to our left. It was a two inch long roach crawling across the floor. A patron stepped on it next to our table. When he lifted his foot, the roach simply ran under another table. The men's bathroom was not accessible by the way. The food was fair at best. Unseasoned and overcooked burger. We prayed for refills for our drinks...but strangely, the server never returned, until she left the check. I guess we drank the last glasses of water in San Diego. No chance I'd eat here again. You'll find better service at McDonalds.

Yelp
The food was delicious Service was a little slow but it's to be expected during a virus. Everybody was pleasant. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great place for fun lunch. Our large party had salads, breakfast and fries. Delicious
