Maryland Fried Chicken

Heard a commercial on the radio & decided to try it out. Based upon the "hole in the wall" atmosphere I thought I was in for a treat. Unfortunately, the parking sucked, staff was less than friendly unless you were one of the locals( I'm not). Leaving food out must be habit because a lady came back for items she ordered for lunch earlier, another didn't get something in the drive thru & I didn't get my drink! My daughter said the chicken tasted like they forgot to season it & the okra was overcooked. I was very dissatisfied with my meal & experience.

Glad I went early because a line formed quickly and before noon. Just as good as it was 25+ years ago. Good fried chicken, with it were seasoned more, but still moist and crispy fresh. Have always loved the tri-taters! And awesome sweet tea! Classic spot!!!

Been craving fried shrimp. Picked some up today. Food took a few minutes of waiting, however it was served piping hot, so it was worth the wait. I've had chicken from Here as well, it's always been tasty.

lived in Beaufort in late 70s. Chicken dinner was usually good. i understand that the place has been sold a few times since then. hopefully service and food quality is still good.

My chicken was tough and had blood in it. My brother's wing also has blood in it. The chicken could use a bit more seasoning. The cook came out and asked what was wrong with the chicken. We showed him it was not cooked all the way. He was cooking the chicken too fast. He took the chicken back. He corrected it. The waitress served us was very nice. It would not be our choice not to come back.

Ordered wings tater tots and sweet tea. The wings were very good, cooked just right . Good sweet tea. Now to the bad, the tater tots were freezer burnt, dried and crusty. I'm surprised that they would sell something so bad when the rest was so good.

This food was so horrible,It's unbelievable. They sell fish with more bones than meat and it was disgusting no seasoning the chicken was dry no seasoning. It was horrible. That's the worst experience I ever had. Don't ever go to this place ever unless you want to get robbed

The food was so good we didn't take pictures. I spent a lot of money here and it was definitely worth it for what you pay and what you get and the wonderful attitude and the quality of the food really speak for the restaurant. I'm at the Owner today and he was such a sweetheart, and very kind and generous as most people are in Beaufort. I really appreciate the staff and the way the food was cooked for the time it took to make the food you know it was about quality and they actually care about what they give you. I'd highly recommend coming to this place and getting everything off the menu again.

Stopped by one night for dinner. If you like soul food you will like this. It's a tasty alternative to kfc. The breading is good and the chicken and sides we got tasted great. It doesn't look very pretty from the outside but I promise the food is good.

My order announcement got blurred in the absolute loud chaos of their lunch service. By the time I got my food, it was pretty wet with grease and pretty disappointing. I don't feel it's a good value whatsoever. Don't order the hush puppies, they're not worth it at nearly $0.70 'a pup'...

This place is good! Inexpensive. Best fried shrimp I've ever had. I didn't have the chicken because I'm from Texas and a snob about my fried chicken but my colleagues said the pieces and strips were great. Service is fast and super friendly. Sides were all very yummy. I'll be back!

Drive by often and generally see a line inside and at the drive thru. Stopped in to get lunch one day. Ordered two chicken sandwiches and a soda. Kinda expensive, but figured they would be good based on the crowd. Received my order: dry chicken, naked on a cold bun. Virtually inedible... Money better spent at Chick-fil-A, much nicer folks and better service.

Their chicken and sides are good. The chicken is not as greasy as KFC. It always taste fresh and makes a good meal.

Ok all stopped in from visiting Beaufort,after a good week of driving by and always seeing this place packed . Staff was friendly and coleslaw was better then most small chopped had enough dressing with a lil salt and pepper was 7-10 . As for chicken it was definitely not crispy or crunchy And very bland !!!!!! It was a huge disappointment Also they call them Tater Tot's but it was shaped like a triangle potato wedge was soaked in Grease and after a bite as well had zero seasoning! Rolls are apparently In freezer then warmed up so that was as well just another reason why we won't be returning. Unfortunately.

The chicken is amazing- the fish is very good. The service is attentive and since you order and pick up at the counter it does get bogged down a little. Today we ordered a 15 piece bucket of chicken and a pint of chicken livers. The only thing missing on the menu is collards or some other greens...

Long lines. Long drive through. Recommend calling your order in 15 mins prior. Good food.

Hands down the best fried chicken anywhere, juicy and just the right crunch. The staff is great, always a great attitude even when it's crazy busy. Tri taters are awesome and don't miss the mac and cheese bites...how do they do that?!

First meal back after living on the west coast for a few years. Small indoor dining area but outside of that phenomenal food. Customer was pretty good. Food is simple but packed with flavor. Highly recommend!

$50 for two basic fried fish "po boy" sandwiches they were both a hot mess falling apart!! And fries that were cold to the touch ,

Came in wanting 3 chicken sandwiches and some fried oysters. Somehow ended up spending 41 dollars. (Spent a similar amount at Wren and Fish Camp and they have table service.) Got home with my food to find out my order was incomplete. What we had was tasty but I won't be back nor will I recommend Maryland Fried Chicken. It's disappointing when you're traveling and feel taken advantage of.

Chicken is terrific! Moist, juicy, and crunchy everything you want from fried chicken. Simply Delicious! The sides on the other hand... not so much. They are on the same level as those tubs you get from the grocery store, in fact that's probably where they came from. The restaurant itself is kind of a dive. You don't need to go in, they do have a drive through (I do find it to be kind of slow moving). I really want to give it a 3 star for those issues, however I just can't go that low on account of the tasty chicken.

Very good fried chicken and seafood. I love the coleslaw and beans too. Friendly people. Good value and location too. We always get it to go.

I've always driven by and seen a line, I swore one day I would try it.. the day finally came and I was not disappointed. Chicken was crispy and juicy, fried shrimp was yummy. Hush puppies were good as well. Definitely prefer MFC over the chains nearby.

Say if I live where Maryland Fried Chicken is, it will be my friend. The fried chicken was really good.

The best fried chicken in Beaufort, South Carolina. The best and I defy anyone to claim otherwise. It is so good you will be waiting in line but will thoroughly enjoy it's crispy juicy chicken. The sides are also very good-green beans and coleslaw. You will not be disappointed.

I had the chicken and the flounder. Both were good. The lady that was taking my order recommended the pork chop. I will try it next time.

Maryland fried has always been my favorite place to get fried chicken in Beaufort, until I got a meal today and found what appears to be chicken BRAINS in my thigh I don't think I'll ever be returning after being this disgusted...

As we are traveling through the south There is nothing more that I wanted then some really good southern fried chicken! And Maryland's did not disappoint! Could to perfection & timely on the pick up! If your craving some good ole fashioned fried chicken, this is the place!

3 years of living in Beaufort and my first time in this joint. I ordered the 3 piece chicken, breast and thighs. With fries and beans in the side. Lady on the drive in said breast is not cooked yet so i went for legs and thighs instead, man I love my breast but oh well. Price is a little over $8, not bad. After the drive back to the lodging, I gobbled up that thing up like there's no tommorrow. To hell with my diet. Chicken was very moist, cooked very well and still hot after a 10 minute drive. Bread was meh, fries was ok, beans was ehh. You can tell there's not a lot of stuff put with the chicken, breaded and fried that's it. Just beware, this place is not for you who watch your calories and scared of grease in your face. Will I go back, eh, I am leaving Beaufort for good, so no more. Do they have Maryland chicken in California? How about Maryland?

Found this place on cheap Eats in Beaufort and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fried chicken. We had takeout as the place itself seems like just another franchise place. Highly recommend chicken to go but drive-in window was very slow.

Amazing lil spot with great chicken but the okra and you have to try the lemonade .... we went back and got the gallon!

We came down from MD for a Marine graduation and happened to stop by Maryland Fried Chicken for family day picnic. The chicken is great, the service is great and the people are incredibly friendly. They even made sure to fry the chicken in fresh oil to avoid cross contamination with fish in order to avoid issues my daughter has with food allergies. Thank you MFC!! Move over KFC!!

Just thought I'd update my review! I finally got a chance to try the chicken and I gotta say...IT IS WORTH THE HYPE. The chicken is amazing. Hands down. I had it 2 days in a row lol I think they took my feedback about the fish seriously a few years ago because now they have REAL fish fillets and they are pretty good too :) just be aware they are made to order so it's best to call in a fish order so you don't have to wait. The sides are pretty mehh but the chicken totally makes up for it.

I had passed this place quite a few times. Nearly every Saturday on the way to the Farmer's Market down the road. So I decided one day to look it up on here and see their reviews. I love some good fried chicken and this place is rated fairly well. Now I know why! I got the 15 piece chicken only and we absolutely loved it. My family and I enjoyed it so much. We decided not to get any sides but the chicken itself is very delicious. Well seasoned down to the meat. The crisp coating is seasoned, battered and fried to perfection. Perfect about of flavor and crunch as well as moist well cooked meat on all pieces of meats. I strongly recommend and will be back. I'd eat here all day every day if I knew what portion control was.

On the way out of town May 26, stopped in to get my favorite gizzards and livers with a side of hush puppies. Everything was cooked perfectly. The cashier was very friendly.

I have always loved MFC gizzards since Iwas a young girl. I recently introduced my fiance to MFC gizzards and now every time we come to visit it's a stop we make as many times as we can before going back home to Atlanta.

We're from the west coast and we are just absolutely in love with their chicken! I like them better than any other chicken place. Their batter is flavorful without being too battery. We go there at least once a week or so. Plus, you can't beat the 8 dark piece meal for $7 + tax. =) Cheaper than you trying to buy the ingredients and making it at home.

One word; dry. Everything was dry. No matter how much hot sauce and honey you put on the unbelievably greasy chicken, it is still dry and still taste like burnt oil. Even the sides were gross. My kids wouldn't eat the mac and cheese. Nothing had flavor at all. Don't waste your time.

What can I say the foods was okay wasn't really flavorful but edible . It's my first time trying and I must say I've had better ; the chicken was dry and had no seasoning what so ever as well as the sides , paid 30 sumn dollars for food I feel was lacking on quality. But I guess if you knew better you'd do better. ‍‍

The fried chicken here is awesome. The only way I could try to describe it would be to say it's like momma makes it...but honestly, I doubt my momma could make fried chicken this good. Ha! Side items like potato salad, green beans, etc could be better...my wife loves the fried okra. Again, did I tell you about the chicken?

The chicken here is amazing. It is very well seasoned and cooked so nice and crispy! We love it. If you want delicious fried chicken then yes come try it out. The sides on the other hand, need some tlc, the macaroni and potato salad taste like it came from walmart. The fries...are fries...you cant really mess that up. They could use some seasoning salt, or salt period but thats not too bad. The rolls. Just throw them away. They were horrible, the bottoms were hard and it literally felt like I was eating paper. If this is take out, make your own sides.

I saw a long line in the drive thru and this usually means a good place but not this time. I was here on business and wanted a quick bite to take back to the hotel. Ordered 3 piece dinner. Was supposed to come with 2 sided but they forgot my fries. Cole slaw was ok but tiny portion. Chicken was very hot which is good and was moist but way way to greasy and not only that it tasted like old grease kind of burnt tasting. Got the gizzards and only ate a few as they were very tough and chewy.

This is a place I must come to every time I come to town!! Gotta have my gizzards! They are perfectly seasoned and fried nicely. Never hard or tough. It may take a while sometimes but that's because they cook them so much it's fresh! Love this place and I will always be a customer. I've been coming here over 30 years!

Kind of funny that we had to move from Maryland to SC to eat Maryland Fried Chicken. We have eaten here twice and the poultry rocks - fresh, crispy, well seasoned, and juicy. We prefer it to go as this is a bare bones place as it relates to the eating area. Don't want chicken? No problem, enjoy fish, gizzards, livers, pork chops, catfish, oysters, shrimp, hush puppies, coleslaw, potato salad, mashed taters, gravy, beans, and on and on.

The best fried chicken I've had since moving to South Carolina. The owners/operators are very nice and made sure we had everything we needed while we dined in. I highly recommend this place.

Consistently the best fried chicken I've ever had and the price is hard to beat. It's no wonder they've been in business for so many decades. I work across the street from Maryland Fried Chicken so I walk over there about once a week for lunch. They're always friendly and efficient. I don't stray far on the menu - I always get 2 breasts and a side of cole slaw. I ask them to keep the roll because I know I won't eat it. Whether it's made there or not, I really like the cole slaw. The chicken is always perfect. Always. I can't find a better lunch for $5. The staff there are great! After I had only been there a few times, they knew what I wanted before I even said anything. That's something you rarely find these days with all the chain restaurants.

A exile back I was having a fried chicken Jones, but I was a relative newbie to the area, so I called my realtor and said "if you're craving real fried chicken, where do you go? Without hesitation he said Maryland Fried Chicken! It's a bit of a drive for you, but the chicken is good! So I packed up my boys and off we went. When we got there, and I saw it was a bit of a dive, I knew instantly we had ourselves a winner! I looked over the menu, and saw a bunch of things I wanted to try, but it was chicken I was craving. I started with an order of fried chicken gizzards, and damn if they weren't perfect! Salted just right, snapped when you bit them, and no strong gamey flavor. Then I had the mixed 3 piece dinner with fries and slaw. Again AMAZING! the skin was so crispy and salted just right. The only criticisms I could find was that the dinner rolls that come with dinner, were from a bag, and cold. And they gave us country crock spread, instead of butter. My boy ordered onion rings to start, and each had chicken fingers and mashed potatoes with gravy. My oldest so who is the pickiest kid in the world wolfed his down, and asked if he could have another order? Yes you can I said, and he ran to order another.we now have a standing dinner date every Friday night. Oh and I forgot one thing, all this food was about $20.00 best chicken and best Deal around. And I don't care about the drive.

Best fried chicken in beaufort hands down. They also do deep fried turkeys which are crazy good as well. Screw KFC, they don't got sh!t on this place.

Every Beaufortonian knows this joint. A must visit if you want to do as the locals do! Some faves are the wing snack, whiting, box of fries, and gizzards fried hard!

Just returned from going to the drive thru @ Maryland Fried Chicken. I choose the Budget Box w/2 sides which totaled 22.08 (tax included). The chicken I recvd was 5 small thighs & 4 drumsticks. In the box was 2 tri-taters & in a separate bag, there was 5 1/2 rolls. I had chosen cole slaw & tri taters as my sides. The chicken was freshly cooked & nice & hot, but that's about all I can say about the food. The taters were cold & old tasting & the rolls had been ripped apart & were not even warm & there was no cole slaw included (even though I had paid for it). My advice is to thoroughly check your order prior to leaving to make sure you get what you paid for! Can't say if or when I will purchase from them again!!

This fried chicken is delicious. Crisply and juicy like grandma made and you ate it hot with two pieces of white bread. Yeah man! No fast food here. We drove from Hilton Head one hour and it was worth it. Now the place is a clean, accessible hole in a wall with hospitable staff. Our chicken was cooked to order as we dined in. I got the "individual chicken dinner, three hot out of the pan pieces that burst with joy with my first bite. I added some Texas Pete hot sauce that was on the table and I had some good Southern cooking. We could not leave without refilling our half and half ice tea and lemonade. Tip: Be patient and pleasant with the staff and they will look out for you.

We walked into a line of people, but we didn't care! Going to Maryland Chicken for us is an hour drive round trip, and worth every bit of the drive. As soon as it was our turn to order, I instantly knew we were going to try a lot of different things. We started with the fried gizzards and livers. Nice crusty outer and tender meaty inner. The livers were soft and flavorful. Next we ordered the pork chop special... a fried pork chop on the bone seasoned perfectly and just the right amount of fat left on. All I could say as we were devouring this chop was oh my god! I think I could have eaten 2 or 15 of these. We then had a chicken dinner that we split. The skin on the chicken was masterfully fried so crispy it sounded like crackling when you bit into it. The breast meat was moist but not greasy, my oldest son said that the drumstick was a bit small, and My other son said the thigh meat was good, but had too much grease. Both were true, but it still is plenty better then KFC. The sides that come with the dinner are ok, they would be better if they seasoned the fries with some salt after they came out of the fryer, but complaints by elderly patrons about not wanting salt has seemed to scare the owner. His Cole slaw and potatoes salad taste of Sam's club, and the dinner rolls are right off the shelf it seems from the local piggy wiggly. But we dont come here for that... we come for the chicken, and for that reason I give 5 stars. It's the best Chicken around.

This is one restaurant I'll never go to in BEAUFORT ever again. The owner was very rude to me about the food I ordered. I ordered a seafood platter with a lemonade drink. Got my food & it didn't look edible. So I ask to change my order & the owner starts yelling at me saying NO because I would be wasting his food & he'll be losing out on food & money. Then he starts to go on about his inventory & how he could show me on paper that the seafood he serve is quality seafood! At that point I wanted a refund & he told me he couldn't give me a refund. The food wasn't what I expected it to be. There was only handful of food, overcooked, & the fish was square! Whenever do you see real whiting fish in a square? Let me not forget I was charged $11.06 for crap food & service. I advise anyone not to order a seafood platter or any type of seafood from this place. Only order seafood from a seafood restaurant.
