Maryland Fried Chicken

BOY DO I LOVE ME some Maryland Fried Chicken! As a child in the very early 70's I remember Mom and Dad Taking me to a Maryland Fried Chicken. I loved at at 5 and I now love it at almost 60! At one time we had them around the South but now only a very few remain but this Myrtle Beach Location is fantastic and i'm so happy I can continue to get this wonderful food! The Chicken is Fantastic, the Pork Chop is Fantastic! The fries okra is Fantastic everything is so good and the wife and I try and drop in EVERY TIME we pass during the Lunch hour! The staff are always so nice and helpful. You know its good as the locals love it!

I gave it 4/5 stars because the chicken was that good. I also throughly enjoyed the corn fritters as well. I was not a fan of the Mac and cheese but the fries were pretty good. For the price it’s a steal and gives an old country vibe. Very quiet but clean and not busy when I went in. I would go again when I’m in town. They also have a Conway location that I hear is good as well!

I've been here for years. i used to work at the old amusement park, so I made regular visits here. Shrimp, still crispy with the right touch of seasoning got a hush puppy that was sweet with a nice crunch. I'm glad that they are still here after all these years. I will be back when I can.

To even know that a Maryland Fried Chicken still exists is fantastic. This is an eatery long gone away from the restaurants in Georgia. There was one in Macon Georgia. A few blocks from where I grew up with my 4 siblings. My mother worked @ Maryland Fried Chicken for several years as she funded her college education. Back to this one now. The service was gr8. It was a full house on this day. Unlike the one my momz worked @. This one had plenty of waiting space. And a nice size dinning area also. The staff was friendly. The lady running the register stated that she has been employed there for 25yrs. And a cook in the back has been employed there for 30yrs. These 2 ppl were well beyond my nifty fifty club age range. To hear the history of longevity for this restaurant was astonishing. My family and I ordered the 15 piece dark combo. It comes with 3 sides and rolls. Our sides was macaroni and cheese, fried okra and mashed potatoes and gravy. I don't recall white gravy being served back in da day tho. The cost was very reasonable.

My wife and I finally got a chance to try them out and I was a little disappointed. My wife had the chicken and said it was good (I'd hope so if it's in the name) and I had the gizzards. They were very chewy and rubbery and the sides were very bland with little taste. The fried okra was good and so was the popcorn shrimp. Might have to try the Conway location next time to see if it changes our minds. Middle of the mall experience at best for all the hype I've heard over the years. The staff was very friendly though.

Simply the best restaurant for any kind of food that you may like.. The seafood is outstanding cook to order. Chicken liver chicken gizzards outstanding cook to order. Pork chops very delicious outstanding. Cook to order. They fried chicken, simply the best better than Kentucky Fried Chicken. If you really want good food please go there. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves it. Do not go into this place thinking you will be able to have a fine in experience, their dine in option is awful, no real service, they just yell order names, no real organization to how the orders are prepared or when to expect to be called. The food was bland, poorly prepared, and lacked any real flavor — not even salt could save it. I’ve had better meals from a gas station and better chicken from royal famrs, Publix or even the Chinese restaurant. On top of that, the service was incredibly slow and indifferent. Overall, a disappointing experience I wouldn’t repeat or recommend. The parking for this place was messy, small, and strange. I much rather go anywhere else, and I wouldn’t take my family here. If you’re looking for good chicken, or good southern food, avoid this place.

Maryland Fried Chicken is listed as one of the quintessential eateries in Myrtle Beach. If that's any indication, their culinary scene is atrocious. When you walk into this modest little joint, you think you've stumbled onto a hidden gem masquerading as a hole in the wall. It's not. Fried chicken batter should be crispy and crunchy. But I found an adjective that I never thought would describe fried chicken batter, leathery! I would have needed a steak knife to efficiently pierce this chicken batter, similar to the pigskin of a football and way oversalted and uncomfortably greasy. The mac and cheese is straight out of a Kraft mac and cheese box, and the fries certainly came from the frozen section of the local supermarket. This is not the real fried chicken I eat in Alabama and Tennessee, so I cannot recommend this place in good conscience. Note: Always trust Yelp over TripAdvisor and Google reviews, because this site is far more accurate. Case in point, Yelpers appropriately rate Maryland Fried Chicken below four stars while the other sites yield a preposterous 4.5 rating!

Judging by how packed it appeared inside, from the outside, I had to check things out for myself. The fried chicken not the fried livers, met my expectations. The chicken was pretty, but lacked seasoning. The rice & gravy was pretty good, but could've used a little something. The fried livers didn't have any seasoning to me. Even after using hot sauce, it didn't change the taste. The customer service was great. The inside only holds about 7/8 tables; mostly only accommodating no more than two.

I had the taste for fried chicken and I was not disappointed! Friendly nice service and very quick! The chicken was still hot and fresh when we got to the hotel. Seasoned well and juicy! The sides Mac n cheese and potatoes were good, but they both taste like box food. The corn fritter was delicious! My sides were not as warm as I like but still good. The cost was reasonable compared to another soul food place and I'd come back here!

Ate there yesterday food was delicious chicken was juicy and fried like Moma I highly recommend them that's if you love fried chicken

When I say AMAZING , amazing ! The smell of the chicken will Let you know, As well as the long line (which moves quickly but is worth the wait)! Chicken is sooo good . We got a family meal to eat on the beach . Will be back every-time I visit Myrtle . Prices are reasonable , service was that great southern hospitality, and food was awesome .

I am super disappointed in the service and food I received. I grew up eating at Maryland Fried Chicken in Conway. I visited the restaurant back in May and was able to do two separate orders at drive thru. On 7:7 I visited the restaurant just be told rudely they can only do one order at the window. After receiving my food the chicken wings were fried so hard it was just unpleasant to eat. The French fries tasted like old oil that needed to be changed. I was so disappointed I threw the food out. But I wanted to make it known that was not a happy experience for me or my family.

Nothing special really. I've had better and I've had worse. Pieces were kind of on the small side. Service was good.

The restaurant seems to have been on this corner in Myrtle Beach for decades. This is my go to place for livers and/or gizzards. They are the best !!!! I'm sure the chicken is great but I have never tried any. The sides are wonderful as is the staff. If you like great liver and gizzards this is the place ! Again I sure the chicken is awesome as well! A must stop !

Wow! Todays special was 3 chicken legs or a pork chop, 2 sides, dinner roll and drink for $6.89!!!! Everything was fresh and delicious. The Mac and cheese was classic, and the rice and gravy was on point. Also ordered chicken livers which were amazing! Staff was friendly and food was served quickly. Highly recommended!

Great chicken. Great side dishes. Great prices! Lunch for three was just twenty bucks. I don't think you can eat at McDonald's for that anymore! And The quilling sure it a whole lot better! We Need to come more often! For those of you who are visiting...Always trust a place where you see the locals going in and out of frequently!

The ladies at the register are so sweet and kind. This is my favorite place to get fried chicken and burgers. Cheaply priced and always fresh. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. My mom has been coming here since before I was born. Must try spot in the heart of myrtle beach. Tip the ladies. They don't have a tip jar but they work really hard and deserve it!!!!!

Maryland's is always my family's first stop for food when we visit Myrtle beach. The fried chicken never disappoints !! This time I got the 3 leg special with rice & gravy and Mac n cheese. The rice & gravy was great! The macaroni is just ok. That sweet hush puppie always hits the spot!!

Really good fried chicken. Not too salty or overly battered. Just about perfect. Also had to get the pint of liver and gizzards (I called it lizards in my haste, the counter lady clucked at that one), OMG would have killed for some cold beers at that point. Fries okra cole slaw were also ordered, it was serviceable. But the chicken is where it's at. Never mind the Formica counter top that's been there for decades and the dicey looking local customers. Fu-k the diet and order yourselves some hot crispy fried Chicken in deep oil. You'll thank yourself later after the gluttony and regret!

This place is great and everyone that works in there is willing to go out of their way to make sure the customer is 100% satisfied. I've never like eating at Maryland Fried Chicken but I gave this one a try and I sure am glad I did.

Drove 30 minutes to get here and arrived at 7:30 on the dot to find the establishment closed. Closing time was supposed to be 8:00pm. Disgusted .

On vacation looking for places to eat something different!! Stopped in at Maryland Fried Chicken Labor Day weekend from Sardinia Ohio ordered the chicken tenders mashed potatoes gravy Mac cheese was very delicious Hubby ordered shrimp slaw and potato salad very tasty...,but gizzards were too tough for him to eat ...

We stopped by because we red these nice reviews! OK, Where to start from. Chicken is fried in OLD frying oil and has rubbery consistency! Besides that it had some strange taste. We ended up ordering somewhere else as these were impossible to eat. Then why I would give them 3* instead of 1? I would give 1* should it be made of plastic... Not going to go there again.

When I come to Myrtle Beach this the #1 place where I love to EAT! The Chicken is So good and the Sides are excellent along with the Hush puppy and Dinner Roll for under $10. As a Retired Veteran that came to Myrtle Beach for a FUNHOUSE SKATING EVENT,this place his food that cook with LOVE and taste delicious!

We loved Maryland fried Chicken, the restaurant was very clean, staff very friendly and the chicken was awesome! Price were great too! They have the best 1/2 sweet Ice tea!!! Prices are reasonable! Portions are plentiful! Sorry no pictures Yelp doesn't have great options of posting in the moment! Trust me you will not be disappointed!!!

I ordered white meat with Mac and cheese and collard greens, with corn bread, and sweet tea. The food was delicious but don't eat it if you're planning a day of adventure. I finished about half of the food, and took a nap. Made for good leftovers though!

If you enjoy bland food you will LOVE IT! The chicken is fried crispy but there is no seasoning on it! Same with the sides, i got green beans (you could tell they were just dumped from a can), potatoes salad (if you love mustard you will love their potato salad because it was filled with mustard) and macaroni and cheese ( i put a ton of salt and pepper to make it be worth eating) so all and all i did not enjoy the food but the service was good! But like i said if you enjoy bland food this is the place to go! They are pretty good at giving you fresh crispy chicken with no flavor...

We heard a rumor in Greensboro NC that Maryland fried chicken was the best. We ordered two dinners with fried okra and potato salad. I have to say that I've never had better fried chicken. The okra was just great but I took na star away for the horrid MUSTARD MASHED potato salad. What are you folks thinking? We had a lot left over because as potato salad goes it is simply awful, but when we got home I decided to make some deviled eggs. As an afterthought, having that full container of mustard mashed potatoes in the fridge, I decided to slip that into a few of the egg halves. Everyone raved over them, not knowing they were eating potatoes at all. What a hoot! Anyhow, get the chicken but unless you're having deviled eggs later on, I suggest you leave the potato salad alone. Bonaparte Y'all.

Interesting place. It was okay but not off the chain, lip smacking chicken. I have had some good fried chicken so I can say I know what good chicken taste like. The chicken was hot, very hot when served, but did not have a lot of flavor, kind of bland. They cook the food when you order based on the time we waited I'm assuming this. It was a bit of a wait. Now there was a line of folks so maybe I did not order the right dish. I had the 5 wing meal with fries. The price was not bad under $10. Now for eye - candy. Let me say this, it is a fried chicken restaurant. So you can draw your conclusions from that.

Do these people know what salt is? Even though the chicken looks and smells good, it is not. There is only 1 taste to the chicken and that's old oil! I don't think they have a single spice in the whole building. My 15 yr old cooks way better chicken and sides than this restaurant. Don't waste your time or money eating at this over crowded out of date no spice having chicken joint.

This is a little hole in the wall restaurant. My family always raves about their gizzards and it's always a must stop in myrtle beach. Their white Meat chicken was fantastic. Nice crispy coating. The building is very small. Not a lot of parking and restrooms are outside and need a key. If you like gizzards you must stop here!

I would really give them like a 3.5. Proteins are made to order and always on point. Gizzards are a must try, only issue are the sides, unless you get fries, they are not good. customer service is always good. If they put a little more time in the quality of their sides they will be the whole package.

I have been eating here for 40 years came here as a kid and I still come as an adult. It's the best fried chicken, shrimp, livers , gizzards, ETC. They have fresh brewed tea again, "lesson learned" and the foo# is as great as ever. Don't miss the cheese cake and pecan pie.

We walked in the door and I could feel the oil in the air coat my skin. It smelled good, but greasy. We waited on line, and waited, and waited. Finally we decided that we waited too long and I think the greasy air was bothering my husband, so we left. They have low prices for a meal, about $7.00 each, but it wasn't worth the wait.

The fried chicken here is insanely good, but even better are the deep fried gizzards. Service is a bit slow, so call in if you can.

We stumbled across Maryland Fried Chicken via Yelp and walked to the restaurant (which is located a few blocks from the Sky Wheel). The Maryland Fried Chicken is located predominantly in Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia. We were tickled by the sign that stated there were buffalo chicken, fried chops and gizzards and liver served all day. Maryland Fried Chicken's cute t-Shirt and Logo. I was tempted to buy a souvenir t-shirt. The restaurant is simple with a few chairs and menu board. They have a choice between dark and white meat. The Fried Chicken Box for $11 Fried white chicken breasts at roughly $1.00 each piece. The chicken was tender on the inside and lightly battered. The skin was not ultra crispy, but has nice flavoring.

Gross under seasoned hard fried chicken. My chicken was dry, not sure what was going on. This is not the Marylands I remember. Waste of money.

The lady at the counter was very friendly and patient. It didnt take long for our order of a 9 piece meal with 2 sides and an added extra side along with a pint of gizzards and livers mix to be ready..i couldnt wait to taste the livers and gizzards,they were delicious..the fried okra as well..heck all of it was damn good..i was impressed with the homeade chicken gravy that went with my mashed potatoes...this place has something, people were steady coming in the door...by the way im from maryland and wish for a place like this in my area..loved it..thank you

Great chicken at good prices. The mashed potatoes were typical powdered type and the okra was the usual frozen deep fried type, but the chicken was very good and overshadowed the sides that I ordered. Next time, I will order beans and slaw for a really good chicken dinner.

The fried chicken legs were amazing, taste like grandmas chicken. The side are garbage besides the french fries. Box mac & cheese and the baked beans were just pork&beans out of the can. I will be back for the fried chicken!!!

Very simple chicken spot i noticed driving down the highway..figured i would try it, like another reviewer said previously the sides are a little plain, the mashed potato was simple no real seasoning or anything but the chicken was simple and clean and just good old fashioned fried chicken..prices are cheap too great lunch place after you leave the beach..just come for the chicken

Every time we're in MB we have a pint of gizzards and they NEVER disappoint ! The chicken is also good. Some of the negative reviews are VERY picky eaters who wouldn't be satisfied at a gourmet Resturant !

Bland chicken, bland side options, bland ambiance. Honestly if you want fried chicken, you're better off going to Chick Fil A or Bojangles before going here. It looks like an authentic little chicken restaurant on the outside, but do not be fooled, this chicken is AWFUL. The whole dining experience was horrendous and never in my life will I return.

It is 2018..... This location does not accept AMEX cards. Only card we have is AMEX and are feeding 50 people. We called in the order, not once was it mentioned they did not accept it.

Great chicken, price was high but probably only because of location on strip. Very good season and cooked to perfection. Included rolls were kept warm which made the meal all that much better.

Skip it. Chicken had no spice and the sides were bland. I am from Maryland and they should not use the name of my State in vain!

Had the three piece leg special and two side and a drink for $5.89. Chicken was excellent, crispy outside and moist inside. Tastes like homemade fried chicken. The sides needed more flavor, Mac and cheese was boring and beans were just ok.

Mashed Potato side consisted of less than 2 table spoons of instant mashed potatoes with canned gravy and the Side of Cole slaw was also very small. Ask for butter for the roll and no butter or spread was available as the establishment carried no condiment for the roll. The Chicken was pressure fried chicken but had the taste that the oil it was fried in was old. It made me ill on the walk back to our hotel. Really bad choice to eat here,

You can't beat the prices. You get a large portion of food for the price you pay. The staff is friendly and always seem to be happy.

I got the chicken filet sandwich. It was a pretty small piece of fried chicken breast on a roll. No lettuce, tomato, mayo, just plain. It had good flavor and was moist. I was expecting a little more substance to it.

Went To Maryland Fried Chicken today bought a drink and the Chicken Tenders dinner meal spent about $9 and some Change I was thirsty cause I walked there so I drank my drink down thinking they would be happy to give me a refill Of my drink cause usually most places in South Carolina give free refills if you buy a drink at there store I asked them there like that will be 50Cents I felt kind of insulted honestly and frustrated cause I could go to McDonalds and get all the refills of my drink that I wanted and there food is actually worse then McDonald's to a point I could go to McDonalds and get butter milk chicken tenders meal and get free refills on my drink and pay the same price or less that I paid for that food. The woman that was ringing me up even argued with me and defended the 50Cent charge.So I walk away flustrated and pissed off at this point I'm fuming mad cause im thirsty and I have to eat a dry ass meal with barely any drink I say something under my breath a customer hears me and starts talking shit about being a minister and I shouldn't say things like I said eventually I just got tired and pissed off I felt like that guy was sent to harass me or something I cant be positive but I had a really bad experience in there and nobody did anything to make it better.I have Anxiety and depression this really sets me back most likely I will never go there again.I shouldn't have to eat at places where im not being respected and treated well.
