Yelp
You know, considering how the partying the night before went, any plans or cravings that we might have had for our final meal in Austin went out the proverbial window almost as soon as we woke up. Forget finding a popular brunch spot to check out or getting something light and fresh to start our day (definitely wasn't an acai bowl or green smoothie kind of morning...). Rather, all we wanted was something close by, relatively quick, and filling to cure our hangovers. One of the top results near our Airbnb? Mary's Cafe! Which, from the looks of their photos on Yelp, seemed like it was the perfect fit for us in nearly every way possible!
Now, I have to say - while I didn't really have an image in my head of how this place looked, I was still kind of surprised by how small it is. At the same time though, that only added to how quint and cozy it felt. Even more so, I loved how there wasn't a single person ahead of us when we walked in. Not only because that meant we'd get our food that much faster, but also because no one was there to watch me wave all of my friends past me as I tried to figure out what to get. The menu may seem fairly simple (breakfast sandwiches, waffles, salads, sandwiches, and wraps), but almost everything on it sounded delicious!
After going back and forth between nearly a half dozen things (including their waffles, which seem to be one of their signature offerings), I finally settled on getting their FRAT BOY BAGEL. Served with a Scrambled Egg, Sausage, Colby Jack, and Avocado on a Jalapeno Cheddar bagel, this was just what my morning needed. The eggs were fine, but I liked how juicy the sausage was and how they were so generous with the avocado (which was super fresh, I might add). What's more, I loved the bagel; Jalapeno & Cheddar isn't super common in the Bay Area, but I wish it was after having this one. Plus, it was toasted up perfectly!
In the interest of being transparent though, I should probably note that it took me a little while to finally get this done. During that time, it looks as though the menu has been updated since my visit here. From the looks of their menu online, their range of offerings is mostly the same (they've added breakfast bowls), but the depth of options has been reduced (many of their paninis and breakfast sandwiches are gone, including the Frat Boy Bagel). Not sure if this is only due to COVID-19 or not, but even if it's not, Mary's Cafe still has a ton of enticing alternatives to choose from!
Thanks, Mary's Cafe, for a wonderful breakfast to send us on our way back home! Too bad I can't say the same for the actual flight itself...ugh.
