Marzano

We made a reservation and traveled over 1,000 miles, round trip, to try this restaurant for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. First red flag was when I informed the “manager,” a person in a plain t-shirt, that my wife was celebrating a birthday, I was informed that they offered no birthday dessert to guests, but they were “happy to put a candle on any dessert off of our menu.” Since this was a $500 dinner, it is the first restaurant I have experienced this in, worldwide. The two servers at our table for six appeared to be learning, as another server was training them. When the Pizza Puttanesca was described as a “pizza made without cheese…” but was extremely strong without it, and “extra cheese” was recommended, I was stunned. So “extra cheese” was put on the order. The first overwhelming taste impression was salt. Portion size at the restaurant is petite. The meatballs were fine, but four were served, the size of quarters. The rigatoni was visibly blackened by the oven. The Malfadine pasta was almost too spicy, unnecessarily, with no mention of heat in the description. One dessert, served in a jar with chocolate and nuts, was the best item on the menu. An expensive and unevenly balanced experience that I cannot recommend. We will never return.

Last night, my family and I dined at Marzano in Oakland to celebrate my uncle’s 64th birthday. While the food itself was good, several aspects of the experience were unacceptable. The first issue occurred when we informed our server that we were celebrating a birthday. We were told that the restaurant does not offer a birthday dessert, but that they would “put a candle on any dessert off the menu.” Given that this was a $450 dinner, this response was disappointing and unlike my experiences at comparable restaurants. While not mandatory, small gestures during celebratory occasions are common, and this set an unfortunate tone for the evening. The more serious issue occurred at the end of the night. I quietly stepped away to pay the bill, which totaled approximately $450. I paid using my card and left a 6% tip (about $25), as I had cash on hand and fully intended to give our server, Mercy, an additional $20 in cash before we left. Before I had any opportunity to do so, I was approached by a coworker of our server, Sarah, who directly questioned me about why I had left a 6% tip. I explained politely that I planned to leave additional cash for the server. This interaction was pushy, unfair, and completely inappropriate. While tipping is customary, it is not required in California and is based on the customer’s service experience. Being confronted by staff about gratuity—especially during a private family celebration—was unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable as a guest. Customers should never be questioned or pressured regarding tip amounts. Although the food was good, this interaction overshadowed what should have been a meaningful family celebration and left a lasting negative impression of the restaurant. Being confronted about a tip reflects poorly on staff training and management oversight and is not an experience I would expect at an establishment of this caliber.

The flavors are absolutely explosive—get ready for some delightful surprises as many dishes pack a spicy punch that will tantalize your taste buds! Don't miss out on the must-try dishes: the octopus is a showstopper, the beet salads are refreshingly vibrant, and the meatballs are simply divine. Amazing Italian restaurant in Park BLVD Oakland. The chicken was perfectly balanced red sauce spicy traditional Italian. The Cod appetizer was small but delicious and the Marzano Chapped Salad was a pleasant surprise a blended salad with Chic pea, salami, broccoli, carrots, romaine, radish, egg, snap pea and pumpkin seeds. Had a great server. The overall experience was fantastic.

They have a vegan pizza and we were able to veganize the Brussels sprouts. I wish they had more vegan options but I would rather a place have few vegan options than none. Vegan pizza with the chillio oil and the brussel sprouts both were pretty good!

While the food seems beautifully plated, the service was horrible. Fair warning, the staff will give you attitude and sadly will disagree with you if you complain that your food is cold. What make matters worse, they will roll their eyes at you for taking too long if you plan on taking photos. If you want to help boost and promote good business from paying customers, you should expect a great deal of people who would come to lengths to help say nice things about the business. Either hire new staff or check in the future if this place will ever plan to stay in business at all

Really cozy Italian restaurant in this cute area of Oakland. Their food is so good and the desserts are to die for!

Great local spot! The pizza has a great crunchy and chewy crust. The part underneath the toppings is really thin but holds up well. We tried the Summer Squash pizza and it surpassed our expectations. The tomato sauce was really savory and a little zippy! It def stood out well against the lamb sausage. Drinks are v popular here. The margarita was good but the Palmita tasted like it was more well-rounded. We really enjoyed the octopus appetizer. It was my first time having a combo of octopus and potatoes in a dish. A little on the spicy side, just a little! The arugula salad was okay. The dressing was light and it came with cheese and sliced almonds. The outdoor dining patio is super cute! Made of wood and doesn’t feel shacked together. It makes for a lovely atmosphere and I hope it stays. Parking= difficult. There’s street parking along Park but everyone always has to park in the adjacent neighborhood streets to park because the businesses here are all so popular that’s there’s simply not enough parking for everyone. That being said, the neighborhood parking isn’t the breeziest thing either. Some streets are narrow so navigate cautiously.

Marzano is one of my all time favorite restaurants that I go to on a weekly bases. The pizzas, pastas, appetizer and entrees are always so good and you can always find a good wine to go with each dish. If wine is not your thing, there cocktails are also on the mark. If not to your liking, they have always been happy to adjust the ingredients without attitude. The owner Mana is always so accommodating and makes me feel at home whether i'm their with my husband, family or friends. I love having a place where I can go, without thinking and feels like home. I also love that they have tried really hard to keep the prices reasonable (thus my weekly spot), and I know this is hard these days with all the crime, labor and food costs going sky high. Love you guys.

The place was decent. We also got an appetizer salad to share and a margarita pizza. The salad was ok. There are not many choices, so that's why we chose the salad The pizza was good, not great The best thing was the spicy chicken meal I ordered. It wasn't blowing me away, good, but it was good. Alittle hard to eat because it was chicken on the bone in like an almost soup. So handling the chicken was messy and hot to touch. The veggie pasta meal my mom got . She said it had uncooked peas in it she didn't like. I'm not sure if that's on purpose or a mistake. Either way, she didn't care for it. Overall, it's probably mostly a place people go for drinks and a little food while they drink.

The experience here is very "mid". The greeter was kind but the server was very standoffish. Never introduced herself or asked how our food was. The food was very sub-par. Honestly hated the salad with all the radish in it (from the taster menu), but the octopus starter kind of saved the experience from being bad altogether. Wouldn't really return except for maybe a glass of wine and the octopus on a sunny day.

One of the best Italian places in Oakland, in a really cute space and neighborhood. We had the margherita and the puttanesca pizza, along with the burrata and cocktails. Everything was amazing!

Their food is great! The waitresses are always in a good mood and make you feel welcomed. It usually gets busy on the weekends so a reservation is highly recommended. This place is definitely worth a trying!

Cooked to perfection with a lot of flavor and would order again Artichoke pizza - surprised me. I'm not a huge artichoke lover but ordered per my friends request. Was one of my favorite pizzas. Panna cotta - I was so full and had no business ordering this but gobbled my way through it because it was so delicious Our server Hannah was amazing! Funny, sweet and attentive. However, the man bussing our table came every 10 mins asking if we were done with plates that still had food on them. It made us feel rushed. Also, we were seated next to a table full of loud children under the age of 10 which made the experience a little overwhelming. Wish they had their own area away from the other adult guests.

Got broccoli rabe pizza delivered and it was very bland and lacked substantial toppings. Like they just dusted it with cheese. Might as well have just eaten plain bread with a side of veggies. Way overpriced for what you get!

Each time we've had dinner here we've been welcomed and served by super friendly staff. Their wood-fired pizzas are delicious with a nice chewy crust and offer different varieties from other pizza joints. The mushroom "bolognese" was a really nice mushroom Alfredo. Even if you don't like mushrooms you'll enjoy this dish with cooked spinach mixed in. The Brussels sprouts were great and came with a mayo sauce on the plate, but you could easily enjoy the sprouts without the sauce. Their cocktail menu was enticing, including several bourbon cocktails so I was happy. We had the pear, pecan, bourbon crisp which was tasty but could have had more bourbon flavor and more cinnamon-sugar on top. Their outdoor seating is covered and heated and they offer blankets so we had no trouble sitting outside on a wet evening. I'm looking forward to going back and trying the broccoli rabe pizza that the staff was raving about.

Consistently good food. If you really want to get inside on the weekend make a reservation or you will outside with the heater and a blanket. We found a new favorite the Alaskan True Cod, my spouse raved about it, and said it was the best fish dish he had ever had. I add tasting notes, but he gobbled it up so fast he forgot to let me try it - guess I'll have to order my own next time. A tried and true fan favorite is the Fig Pizza, perfect wood fired crust, lots of fig that pairs perfectly with a glass of red wine. Servers are excellent even when they are being rained on. Food is delivered surprisingly quick and I feel like these guys really care about the customer experience.

Marzano has always been pretty highly regarded. From my former transbay work commute down Park Blvd. there was always a line of customers waiting for it to open at 5pm so I knew everyday they got a crowd. I came around 6pm on a random Tuesday in mid-November and it was about half-filled. To my surprise, we had to sit outside as we had no reservations. Now I know why there's always people eating outside. I feel that we could have sat inside since I checked online and they had open table reservations just 30 min. later at 6:30 but whatever, the gf was craving pasta and BellaNico is closed Tuesdays. Our appetizers were both delicious, Burrata with persimmon, beautifully plated and the fried squash rings. They had a light crunchy tempura batter and creamy soft interior, 5 stars just for that dish alone. Really unique and well made. If you like olives, order them for $6,very flavorful, meaty, and covered with chilis. Main courses: Butternut squash pizza was very good, it's a seasonal one so definitely try it if you see on the menu. Crispy coppa, baby kale, and manchego cheese. Strangely I wasn't a fan of the cheese sprinkled on top but it didn't hurt the dish too much. Great crust and perfectly for dipping into my gf's spaghetti and meatballs. I'm not a huge pasta fan so can't speak much to it, but it has plenty of sauce and the gf liked it, good enough for me. Luckily I did try plenty of the meatballs, of which they give 4 big ones. Lots of meat compared to the spaghetti, this dish is built for some bread to sop it up. Also luckily, we requested some but it was flat bread aka a non-porous one for the sauce. In reality, probably a 4.5 but round up since the service is spot on.

Came here for dinner on a Friday a few weeks ago and we had a lovely time. I think they'll take walk ins if there's availability but I'd recommend making a reservation. We ordered the meatballs, soup, pizza and a mushroom pasta. Also got a bottle of wine, two desserts, and two espresso drinks to end the night. Everything was delicious, service was FANTASTIC, we will definitely return many times to try the rest of the menu. Parking may be a little hard in the area. Restaurant was nice, felt small enough to be an intimate setting but had enough space on both sides of the restaurant to not feel cramped. They also have outdoor seating but we sat inside.

I hadn't been here in probably 20 years, and am so delighted that if anything it's even better now! The octopus starter was a great preview of the wonderful things to come. We're still dreaming of the chicken arrabiata, not too hot but delightfully spicy. The baked rigatoni would do any Italian grandma proud. We were lucky to be staying in the neighborhood, and this is still an uncontested gem of Oakland good food.

I love this place! They have the best Margherita pizza! It's a great place for family dinner after our son's dance class! The menu changes frequently, so there is always something new to try. But the bulk of pizza menu stays consistent.

Disappointing to say the least. Hubby and I were craving Italian last night so we ordered spaghetti and meatballs and a margarita pizza. We live five minutes away from this place so we got it for delivery thinking it would still be warm. Not the case! The food was room temperature and the taste was super bland. Maybe in person is different but our food was awful. Ick.

Delicious dinner at Marzano last night. A friend arrived in town late in the evening -- I called, could they accommodate a late seating? Yes, they could. We arrived at 9:15 pm and received excellent service the entire night. Like others I'd found the quality to be uneven after they reopened but EVERYTHING was on point last night from cocktails to apps to mains to dessert. We were allowed to linger and talk--were never once rushed to leave. Wonderful evening!

Great outdoor seating. Awesome little urban restaurant area in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Great service. The food was surprisingly amazing. I particularly enjoyed the octopus appetizer but the three kinds of pizza we had were also delicious. The pizza is The Italian type with a slightly chewy texture, perhaps baked in a quid for oven (not sure). Didn't have one, but the cocktail menu looks good. Lots of pretty drinks.

We live in the neighborhood and often find ourselves stopping by during the week for dinner or bring out of town guests here for a casual dinner. The staff is down to earth, they have a great selection of wines, and the food never disappoints.

Aye! Issa pizza pie! I'm super upset that I for some weird reason in our universe. Had never thought if having food here. It was pretty good, like super Mario brothers good. Unfortunately we DoorDashed the pizza on one of the more colder wet nights and our pizza came cold. But a little time in the ive. Really turned that around for us. We ordered the margherita and the spaghetti w meatballs (I'm sorry i forgot what they were called). The pizza had an overall great taste. Good ingredients, and the dough was nice and soft. The spaghetti was really tasty as were the meatballs. I have zero complaints about the flavor from this spot and I promise that I will set foot in the physical space so that I may be able to taste that pizza straight out the ove . Mama mia!

One of our favorite neighborhood date night spots. Highly recommend. Great drinks, appetizers and entrees.

For a while Marzano had a spicy corn pizza for which I was willing to drive from Hayward to Oakland, during commute traffic. Really enjoy their pizzas- the mushroom pizza is also delicious. They're tasty without being greasy. More traditional style Italian pizza than the typical American grease bomb. The service is great, and the restaurant is very cute. We'll be back.

It's been awhile since I've found a solid well rounded 5 star restaurant! I really liked that the price point was reasonable for the Bay Area as well. My friend and I ordered: 1. Mushroom pasta: AMAZING! A creamy, peppery, cheesy (Parmesan) pasta with chanterelles. I will try to replicate this at home! 2. Pepperoni pizza: Italian style, solid pepperoni pizza. 3. Burrata with fuyu persimmons (must be seasonal) with toasted -- and I mean toasted, excellent! -- pepitas and pomegranate seeds. The service was great and ambiance was nice. We came here at the beginning of December and there were festive holiday decorations! Parking is a bit tricky -- street and metered, but we came for dinner on a rainy day and found a spot right next to the restaurant. I'll be back with my partner for date night!

PRE-CHECK UPDATE: Alright, I was about to give them 3 stars per below, but I just noticed I ate here below and gave them 2 stars... so yeah I think that's what they really deserve given it was a repeat of not-great food. Thanks Yelp for your newish lamer sorting, not showing me my own review score before I blew $100+... 10/12/22 I rarely do this... honestly, the food was expensive and isn't going to make your mouth happier than Olive Garden. And that's not even considering this meal with tax and tip was more than $100 for me and my 3yr old kid. So, food-wise, I'd say it's 1.5 / 5 stars? BUT.......... alright, I did like eating here. It was a good place to take my kid. The servers were nice to us (though the food took forever to come out), and my kid was happy, or at least as happy as he could be sitting here for like 1.5hrs. It felt homey, yet still had that classy a bit-higher-end feeling. So......... alright, food ain't gonna impress, your wallet will hurt, but it's all edible... so, 3 / 5 stars overall?... 1. Neer Battered Delicata Squash Rings $16 "crescenza, sage": Alright, this was probably the worst dish of the night. The squash was clearly under cooked, and SEVERELY under seasoned. They tried to fancy it up by stacking them like a house of cards, with dabs of cheese sauce here and there... but god, they need like TEN TIMES as much sauce. Also, beer battered???--it honestly tasted more like corn-starch based Japanese/Chinese batter than crisp, crunchy, beer batter. 1/10 2. Butternut Squash Soup $12 "spiced pepitas": Really, a canned soup could not be more boring. BUT, well, my kid's 3 and so... he's into boring, ha ha. There are nuts in there which kept it from being the most boring squash soup I've ever had, but it was close. Again, under seasoned, and I'm guessing poor squash quality as it just didn't have good vegetable flavor. 2/10 3. Amatriciana Pizze (as spelled on the menu) $21 "pancetta, tomato, red onion, pecorino, garlic, chili flake, arugula puree": Mmmm... well, I'd give their crust a decent score. No it's not an epic wood-fired crisp bubbly exterior and chewy interior-kind-of-crust... but maybe 6/10ths of the way there? But, I did NOT like the toppings. No clue what I ate, but it just tasted like a mess. Also, my 2yr old couldn't eat it well--as soon as he picked it up, all the cheese and toppings fell right off. You can only eat this NY fold-style. 5/10 4. Wood Fire Baked Rigatoni $22 "napoletano pork and ground beef ragu, stracciatella, pecorino": I have no clue why they bothered to "wood fire" this. And, they did not lie!--I can tell it was indeed wood fired cause it did crisp and char a few pieces, in a good way. But they really did not take advantage of how well a good fire oven can toast and crisp cheese, or bread, or anything like that, which would benefit from the technique. This was just very standard rigatoni in sauce which would have done just as well without the fire oven. It should be noted, I ordered this for my kid's main dish and it came like 20min AFTER the pizza, which came like 20min after the rest! So my kid just kinda sat there without his food. Anyway,... 6/10 5. Chili Spiced Chocolate Pot de Creme $10: I did LOVE this. The mousse was really smooth and was totally deep dark bitter chocolate. And the heat REALLY came through. "Kids, where should we go for dinner?" The answer 50% of the time, without an extra breath, is Marzano. Everyone wins. You want to eat light? Eat light. You want to leave stuffed? Leave very stuffed. The drinks are strong (try the Cocodrilo), the appetizers are delicious (amazing arancini and meatballs), the pizza is delish (both the adult pizzas and kids pizzas), and the pastas are rich and filling. The one area where there can be a struggle at times is the service, which can be hit or miss depending on try server. But generally, I love this place, and we're lucky to have it as a little neighborhood joint.

This is still my all time favorite restaurants in Oakland! This is our local family Italian food and wood fired pizza spot and try to come here every week. They are so wonderful and welcoming and all the food is consistent and solid. We ALWAYS get the Marzano chopped salad and a margarita pizza, it's a must. And if you have kids they are extremely accommodating, have crayons and a stellar kids menu. Go now!

This was my second visit to Marzano this summer. Previously I visited and sat on the patio with my parents who were visiting. The service was sloppy at the time, food was good. This visit was the hubs and I and we sat inside. Treated warmly, accommodated, he liked the vibe inside. We had seen Check Please! and had wanted to try the octopus. It was underwhelming for sure. Good flavors but the octopus was chopped prior (?) to cooking possibly and was tough and very tiny amounts - felt skimpy. Chopped salad was nice, lots of the things, good flavor. The pizza - I'm not able to eat much cheese so we ordered the vegan but added sausage. I have very mixed reviews about this - the crust was chewy and perfect but the middle was really soggy. And as far as cheese goes, were they afraid to break the bank?? A couple sprinkles - again, felt stingy. Maybe they are trying not to raise prices so instead cut from food costs? And why was it so soggy!? Final pot de creme was delicious. Cocktails - I had a martini - not to hard to mess up Hubs had specialty cocktail the Cubano - 3 stars. The wine list leans Italian with some interesting selections- good for me but since he doesn't drink much I just had a glass - it was a nice vermentino. Previously we had a few bottles and were able to try more off beat selections - this adds stars in my book. Service was easy. Felt taken care of this time. Wasn't waiting and wasn't rushed and all were friendly. All on all it was a mixed experience with some great attributes and some leaving me wanting.

Pizza and pasta $60 Pizza had 2 pieces of sausage and one mushroom and wasn't cooked. 2 small meatballs with spaghetti for $19? I do not recommend.

Would eat here more but very few gluten free options. Most Italian restaurants offer gluten free pasta or pizza, I've been asking for years and this would be my neighborhood go to spot but just too few gluten free dishes.

Have you ever ordered a Pepperoni Pizza, and they put a few dozen pieces of pepperoni slices on it and that's it? Kinda feel like there should be more? You won't have that problem if you order the Pepperoni Pizza at Marzano in Oakland, CA. First, the pizza is big enough for 2 people to share. Second, they pile pepperoni slices upon pepperoni slices. So much pepperoni, that it covers most of the cheese. The pizza tastes spicy hot, not salty. You taste pepperoni! Oh, and I asked for mushrooms .....I got a generous amount added. And the crust? Thin and crispy. Crunchy on the outside, a little soft on the inside. The outer edges had char marks, the result of baking in a wood fired oven. There were some char spots on the bottom, but the pizza wasn't burnt. This is good pizza!

Love their windows, and high ceilings. Will return. Passing by this place all the time whenever I come to visit. They have sidewalk dining on either side of streets. I ordered two take out - Spicy house fennel sausage pizza: great, will return for it! - Orecchiette Lala Norma: ok, I feel it's a little tasteless but my dad says: too salty. Must be the generation gap -:)

Marzano purports itself to be a higher-end Italian bistro-bar. There's around 10 tables and booths for indoor seating, and a large bar dominating the center of an overall narrow and pretty cramped restaurant. I didn't appreciate the feeling I had in the restaurant - it felt like I was always two feet from the door. The food is overpriced (expected) but completely unremarkable and pedestrian. You expect food at this level to make some sort of statement and exhibit at least a little bit of character. Marzano's flavors are more in line with mass appeal and being as inoffensive as possible. The one positive was the service. My server was very attentive as well as our busboy, but at times it was a bit aggressive and move-ya-through. Still, our server adeptly took the cues of when to check on us and when to back off. Sadly, that's rare these days. Not especially great food, and a poor value. More of a place to go with neighbors or coworkers and pretend the food is better than it is. I did appreciate the above-average service. This place is just around the corner from us but I feel no desire to return or make it a regular destination.

Wow - things changed here. Wife and I brought friend here on a Friday night. Food Portions seemed smaller (octopus had way too many potatoes and olives) than 18 months ago. Margherita pizza oozed watery sauce and crust was thinner than I remembered. Meatballs were enjoyed by the senior crowd... Service Wait staffed asked us 3 times if they could clear our plates. We asked for a cold glass to split one of our beers so a light drinker could sample our beers - the wait staff brought us a warm glass straight from the dishwasher (ugh to warm beer). We don't know if we have the patience to give them another try...

I found one of my favorite pizzas here. So sad it's far from me cause I won't be able to get it often. But first things first... ORDER THEIR FUNGHI PIZZA. The flavor was out of this world. Whole garlic gloves roasted to perfection with oyster mushrooms giving the pizza a nice texture. I was tempted to tell the recently sat tables next to us to get it. Amatriciana was okay. If I only ordered this pizza, I honestly would've given the place 3 or 4 stars. It was too salty and didn't like the flavor or texture. It seemed a bit of a mess. Little gem salad was solid. Last star taking this place to a 5 was cause my faux sommelier husband was very impressed with their wine selection and enjoyed their generous pour of the super Tuscan. He exclaimed their selection was even better than Eataly's at valley fair. Interior is nice with an old skool vibe, dark leather seats. The area is interesting. It's a little area within a suburb with some restaurants around. Well def be back for that funghi...cause the delicious taste makes you a fun guy... Right? ...heh...

I finally got a chance to try this place. Great food and an overall great experience. Came here with the family, and while we did not have a reservation and we thought we might have to sit outside in the cold with our 80-year-old father, the host was gracious and understanding and had a table for us inside. Starters were great. I ordered the fish and it was spectacular. Every single bite was amazing. I will be back for the great service and amazing food. You might want to book reservations because this place books up and gets busy fast.

Ordered pizza for delivery. Pizza was thin as paper, barely any cheese or sauce. Pizza also cane ice cold. On vaca and very disappointed with the pizza.

Marzano is a true gem -- warm vibe, friendly service, insanely delicious pizza and entrees, excellent cocktails. My child normally eats pretty much nothing, but every time at Marzano he'll finish his entire "bambino" pasta and meatballs, and even a few pieces of my pizza. Whether it's family dinner or mom's night, it's our go-to in Piedmont/Oakland.

We are new to Glenview and decided to support our local Italian restaurant one night. Quite a disappointment because the food was definitely below average and service was not up to par at all. Treated us worse than a number and only focused on regular customers. We did our job to give it a try, but the experience was not worth for us to return again.

Great food - excellent take out and local to me. Always hot and ready earlier than promised. Eating in is great too. Warm and cozy on the bar side.

Very disappointed at quality of pizza today. Small part of it was burnt but most was completely undercooked - dough was raw and cheese pieces not melted and fell off. So sad since we've been going there for a long time. It's obvious they don't care about quality of food anymore.

I like the ambiance. Very happy to sit in their outside dining area. Cozy. Great cocktails. Pizza is so-so to me. Great brussel sprouts. Great meatball. Great chopped salad. I go there also because I enjoy the staff. Good people.

No star. The pizza came super cold and hard. It was obviously sitting out for a long time. This is totally unacceptable.

Marzano is small little Italian restaurant that has more of a bar vibe. They only open in the evenings (5/5:30 pm usually). As a huge pasta lover, I was slightly disappointed by the lack of pasta choices, but I feel like there is less and less pasta choices now. Overall, the ambience and service was good.

I ordered the sausage pizza with mushrooms. The pizza sauce was so watery it made the crust soggy and everything slipped off. The mushrooms were slimy and tasteless. Very disappointing.

Takeout was excellent! Quality soup, salad and pasta. Would definitely go there for sit down dining.

Came here for dinner one night and the pizzas were great but everything else was meh. We ordered the arugula salad which was supposed to come with stone fruits and ricotta, and I don't know if they ran out of ingredients but it was 99% arugula leaves, 2 small pieces of stone fruit and barely any ricotta and I'm not even sure if there was any dressing. So we basically paid $13 for mostly a bag of leaves that would cost $3 at the grocery. For dessert I got the evo & sea salt vanilla soft serve and waaay too much sea salt was used that every bite was overly salty. The flavors were not well balanced at all. However, as mentioned earlier, the pizzas were quite good so if I go back, I think that's the only thing I would order.

I so want to like Marzano, as it's truly a local restaurant on Park Blvd. -- and we need to support our home-grown restaurants in Oakland. That said, hubby and I ate here on Wednesday, 1/17/24, a very chilly night and, unfortunately, the odd lay-out of the place offers either a very chilly section of the restaurant, or a very noisy, warm section. Yes, we opted for the warm section, though even with a Reservation, we had to wait, but it wasn't too long. The problem was the Service, which was slow, distracted, and desultory. Yes, finding and retaining excellent workers is hard and, having worked in restaurants for years, some customers can be difficult. In this case, hubby and I were served a plate of arugula (barely seasoned or dressed -- with no bread, Marzano has no Italian bread in an Italian restaurant) and we then patiently waited for our two entrees to arrive for over 45 minutes (we ordered pasta and pizza) as we watched people get served, finish meals, pay their tabs and leave while we were still waiting. Meanwhile, our server walked back and forth past our table half a dozen times, never stopping to check in on us. Finally, we asked her what the hold-up is with our Entrees and she thought she'd wait until we had finished all the arugula before serving our dinners. Please. She had absolutely no clue how to manage patrons' meals and no clue whatsoever in the nuanced skills of a Server, which include, keeping an eye on all the customers' tables and making sure that they are being served their food and drinks and receiving the bill in a timely manner that doesn't break the flow of their evening out. Sure, not everyone is good at this job, but folks in service should, at least, make an effort at it and treat customers cordially. What a concept! Anyway, we are done with this local place, unfortunately.

I had such a great time here! Food was amazing and our server, Brandy, was awesome :) The place itself is very cute and everyone working there seems happy. I will definitely be back!

Consistently good food and great customer service. Love the super reasonable kids menu items also. The seasonal roasted vegetable is always a delicious. They can get pretty busy... just a heads up.

Not pleased with the way the restaurant serves the customer. The restaurant was not packed today, there were only few customers and lots of workers. Not sure why the food takes so long. Service, i feel like we were being rushed to eat. The pizza was great but they forgot to add my ham. The lady do offer to make a new dish for us but the food takes forever so I said no thank you. This is my first time here to try the food but give me bad experience.

This is a five star place for families with kids. I wish it had been on my radar as a family destination before last night. The kid menu is well priced with good choices. The kid cheese pizza is giant. I really enjoyed the chopped salad, recommended by others on Yelp. The best part? You can take the pot de creme to go and eat it at home! It was the best dessert I have had in a long time, I would return just for that.
