Got the Whole Crispy Duck and the Moo Shu Lamb entrees. The duck was ok. It had a fair amount of meat. However, it was not seasoned and flavorless before dipping in the hoisin sauce. We would not order it again. The Moo Shu Lamb was delicious. It had a fair amount of juicy, tender, lean lamb. We will definitely order it again. Update: Got the lunch specials; Fish with Spicy Black Bean Sauce, Fish with Spinach, and the Kung Pao Scallops. Everything was very delicious, however the number of scallops was less than expected. Update: Got the Moo Shu Lamb entree and the Lamb with pickled cabbage lunch special. Both were excellent.

Found this gem when I was trying to find halal spots in SD. The food was so gooood! Like besides being halal, this was one of the best Chinese spots I've tried. I'll definitely be going again. Also prices were great for the portions.

Google
Just wow experience! I try to locate the authentic chinese halal places across the US and this was a hit. The location sign is dimly lit and hard to find but once you enter the restaurant they welcome you with a smile. Great Hospitality, helped me out with menu options. Here is the item specific feedback Pan Fried Dumplings were great. Goes well with the soy sauce Triple fried curry rice - More on the spicy side and I really liked it Jalapeno Sliced Chicken - The sauces in this was amazing. Highly recommended Noodle Soup - First time trying noodle soup and the broth was awesome Garlic Chicken with Jalapenos - Fried variation of the sliced chicken. Again Awesome. The sauce is spicy and tangy

The food here is quite good and notably fresh. The most pleasant surprise was the bread—it was incredibly soft and flaky, really satisfying to eat. It’s a great place if you’re looking for a fulfilling meal that feels both hearty and crafted with care.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ma's House, a Chinese restaurant that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy ambiance that instantly made us feel at home. Now, let's talk about the food. We ordered a variety of dishes, and each one was a true delight for our taste buds. The shrimp with spicy sauce was packed with flavor and had the perfect level of spiciness. The combination of succulent shrimp and the aromatic sauce was simply outstanding. If you're a fan of seafood, this dish is an absolute must-try. Another highlight was the Orange shrimp. The tangy and slightly sweet orange glaze complemented the crispy shrimp perfectly. It was a delightful balance of flavors that left us craving for more. I highly recommend giving it a try. Moving on to the hot noodles spicy lamb soup, it was a bowl of pure comfort. The rich and flavorful broth was infused with aromatic spices, and the tender lamb added a delicious depth to the dish. It was the perfect remedy for a chilly day and left us feeling satisfied and warm. The beef soup with noodles was another standout dish. The tender beef slices combined with the savory broth and perfectly cooked noodles created a harmonious blend of textures and flavors. It was a hearty and filling option that left us impressed. I must commend the portion sizes at Ma's House. Despite ordering a variety of dishes, we left feeling completely satisfied. The quality of the ingredients was evident in every bite, and the attention to detail in the preparation was commendable. The service at Ma's House was exceptional. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They provided helpful recommendations and ensured that our dining experience was nothing short of excellent. Based on my experience, I wholeheartedly recommend Ma's House to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable Chinese dining experience. With their delectable dishes, warm hospitality, and cozy atmosphere, Ma's House deserves a perfect rating of 10/10. I can't wait to visit again and explore more of their culinary offerings.

Google
Their thick sesame green onion bread was unbeatable. Sometimes we dine in but sometimes we just order a bread and go. My in-laws are from Northern China where people are well-known for making flour dishes, but still, even they said the bread from Ma’s House was something else that won’t be easy to copy in a home kitchen daily basis. So, if you are a salty bread aka “bing” person, you gotta try their thick sesame green onion bread. Lord, air fryer will easily refresh it so don’t worry if you can’t finish it all at once. Sometimes it’s short staffed but everyone’s trying their best. Appreciate the efforts. Praise Ma’s house!!

Google
Very authentic northwest Chinese food! I ordered my food through Hungry Panda as they have only $3.99 deliver fee recently. The dishes I recommend are honey walnut shrimp and sesame red bean pancakes, also the egg rolls are pretty great as well. The other dishes like eggplants and lamb pot are nice too, but their portion is too huge. I definitely need to froze some to eat in later days.

Yelp
There's no food pictures to share in this review because we couldn't resist devouring them right away when placed on our table. Our server was super friendly and recommended great dishes for us. We have always been a fan of Chinese Muslim food and this place definitely delivered not only with awesome food but the service and the place ambiance itself were great for family style group gathering.

Yelp
We placed a phone order from Ma's House for lunch. We ordered mongolian beef, kung pao shrimp, a single order of white rice, and an order of spring rolls. Our food was ready when we arrived to pick it up and was still hor when we got home. The spring rolls were good. Nice and crispy. The mongolian beef had good flavor, but some pieces were a little chewy and some were very tender. There were no fillers, just beef and green onions. And they gave you quite a large amount, enough for probably 2 to 3 people. I was disappointed with the kung pao shrimp. The portion size was very generous, and it only contained shrimp, peanuts, and green onions with no fillers. It just lacked in flavor. The sauce was watery and had no real taste to it to me. And that's pretty much the only dish I order when I go out to a Chinese restaurant. So comparably it was the worst kung pao shrimp that I ever had, but it wasn't terrible. I give it a 6/10 and once again, they gave you tons of shrimp, and you could easily make two meals out of it. One thing that we really appreciated that a lot of restaurants don't do is that they did not close the container of spring rolls. They left it open so the steam could get out and the rolls remained crunchy. I gave them extra bonus points for that and their fast and friendly service. We propably will come back and try this place again. Since we've been trying to find a decent Chinese place in Clairemont ever since Panda Country closed.

Yelp
Avoid this restaurant. the worst-tasting and most unsanitary Chinese restaurant I've eaten in my ten years in US . I ordered the braised beef noodle soup with handmade noodles, but all the noodles were broken -- not a single intact strand. The broth was so dark it looked like they poured in half a bottle of dark soy sauce. I ordered the cumin lamb, but it was obvious they used way too much meat tenderizer. The texture was so slippery it felt like laundry detergent had been added, and I couldn't even tell what kind of meat it was supposed to be. Only my husband ate the lamb soup -- as shown in the photo -- and without commenting on the taste, he was the only one who got diarrhea afterward. We came in with high hopes, but this turned out to be the worst-tasting and most unsanitary Chinese restaurant I've eaten at in my ten years in US

Yelp
Ma's House is always a pleasure! service is basic here but it's a special kind of Chinese food. Quality, freshness and flavor are Ma's bread and butter - and noodles. their orange beef was delicious, not too salty like some versions can be. lots of seating, and open on holidays like Easter. what a treat!

Yelp
Orange, peel beef 8.5/10 Crispy duck 8/10 Green onion, pancake pancakes 9/10 Shrimp chow mein 8/10 Short ribs 8/10 This place really hit the spot . After working a long day in winter, your appetite gets the best of you. We wanted to enjoy this incredible West Chinese restaurant, and we did! We ordered the green onion pancakes , orange peel beef, the crispy duck, the short ribs and the shrimp chowmein. One thing you do not want to sleep on is the green onion pancakes. It's sort of a fusion of East Indian and Pakistani flavors with West Chinese cooking. Imagine crispy fried bread with the subtle flavor of green onions embedded in it. It's the perfect companion for any flavorful Chinese dish. We had the spare ribs, but between three grown men, we wish there were more ribs to spare. Great tasting dish, but limited quantity And yes, orange chicken is a popular selection, but I promise you orange beef will not disappoint. If I had to make a comparison, I would say orange beef is the fancy equivalent of Beijing beef served at panda express, although with a specifically citrusy flavor. We ordered so much we weren't able to add it in, but I would strongly also suggest trying either the three flavor sizzling rice soup or the chicken, egg drop soup. The seating is nice, and the atmosphere a tad bit cold, but overall a lovely experience. Our server was very nice.

Yelp
This place hits the spot, most definitely worth a try. The lunch special is appealing. Service is on point, they are very nice and easy going.

Yelp
Amazing Chinese Restaurant!!! 20/20 I don't need to go to San Francisco to get real authentic Chinese food. I have it here in Claremont Mesa blvd. My parents come every Friday and this was my first time and I will make it a weekly ritual. So impressed. Thank You Ma's House for the great hospitality!

Yelp
We've been nursing a cold, and needed some hot food to soothe our spirits... Hot and sour soup hit the spot! We also ordered orange chicken (ok) and Three Flavor Chow Mein with extra vegetables; the noodles were thick and slippery yum! Yum! We'll come again!!

Yelp
Ma's House, this location used to be a solid 4.5 stars pre Covid. However, our recent visit led us to recognize that food quality and flavor have unfortunately gone way down. What was once our favorite dishes like the sliced jalapeño chicken or Mongolian beef, are not the same. The chicken chowmein is now sticky noodles with mushed chicken pieces and an incredibly large amount of bean sprouts. For the price during lunch you really can't beat it. However, the egg roll is now tasteless, the egg flower soup is grainy and again, bland, and the entree portions are substantially smaller. Because I have such a dear spot for Halal Chinese in my heart, we may be back in the near future, but I truly hope they pick up for what they've lost, and that's truly the lack of flavor that once existed and drew us to them weekly. Service was great, and the ambiance is clean. They've stayed on top of this. Cheers to future visits Yelpers and hopefully a palatable reboot xx

Yelp
Got take out, food is pretty authentic. Great portions for sharing with big families. The egg fried rice was already damn delicious, I imagine the other types of fried rice with meats is amazing! Husband got the noodles with three different kinds of meats - also yummy. Mom's got the veggies with noodles. Dad got the honey walnut shrimp, and I got the beef rolls. We'd get all those dishes again. May this spot thrive forever.

Yelp
Got tofu and fried rice. Nothing stuck out. It's fine. There's a lot of other places to get chinese though.

Yelp
I ate at Ma's House for the first time last weekend. The food was ok. The sizzling pepper beef, three flavor kung pao and the sauteed pea pod leaves were all decent, though somewhat bland. The kung pao had LOTS of red chili peppers in the dish but strangely, almost no heat. It's as if the peppers were added into the dish after cooking. The pea pod leaves were sauteed with fresh garlic but had very little garlic flavor. The sizzling rice soup was a complete failure. This dish is intended to contain crispy fried rice that remain crunchy in the soup. The fried rice did not sizzle at all when dumped into the soup, and the rice was not crunchy but instead chewy and gummy. We sent the soup back, agreed to accept a won ton soup, and when that had not arrived by the time we'd eaten everything else, told them to forget it. The egg rolls were crunchy outside, and a uniform "mush" on the inside. Overall, I would give the food three stars. Service, however, was pretty awful. First, there was a cart with dirty dishes parked right next to our table. The server came and cleaned off other diners' plates into the plastic slop trough literally steps from where we were dining. The slop cart with the scrapings and dirty dishes remained right next to us well into our meal until I asked whether it would be possible to move it. It was then moved about 5 feet away, next to a table at which were seated another group of diners! This fact alone is enough to convince me not to return to Ma's House. When the slop cart was parked next to us, smells of the discarded food mingled with our (presumably) fresh food. Additionally, service was slow, even though the restaurant was only about 1/5 full. We had to ask multiple times for things and dishes were kind of just dropped onto the table. Although our group won't return, Ma's House really needs to understand that it's a real turnoff to have others' trash and half-eaten food scraped off plates just steps from where you are trying to eat your own order. Leaving it parked in the dining room just gives the impression that the owners/management don't care about cleanliness or sanitation, and gives rise to all sorts of negative speculation about the state of the kitchen.

Yelp
Their sesame pancake and lamb dishes are so delicious. The space is huge but under staffed.

Yelp
Overall, the visit was ok. I came on a Monday right at 4:30pm when they open for dinner. I give the place high marks for food quality and ample parking. Like another reviewer, the odor at the entranceway was a bit off-putting. It reminded me of maybe an Asian shoe store or Asian pharmacy. And like another reviewer mentioned, there is a cart that they dump all the dirty dishes into, and it is in plain sight (though not right next to me). Service was kind of gruff, no smiles, just down to business and acting borderline annoyed at customers. Despite the central cart dump, the tables and floors looked very clean. The water tasted funny; coupled with the smell of the place, I could only bear to have a few sips. Luckily, the neighboring table's food came out quickly and it smelled good, so the bad smell dissipated. The white rice bowl is an extra $1.50. Strangely, chopsticks were not at my table- just a fork. It was kind of unusual but not exactly bad. The beef chow fun's noodles had an excellent texture, not overly oily, not mushy, not stuck together. Beef was very good. The shrimp with snowpea leaves was good too. I personally think it was decent value for the money, as the platters are family sized. I am not sure I will return, but I think they are a very unique option, as a Halal Chinese restaurant.

Yelp
one of the best comforting chinese food spots in san diego. the hand cut chow mein is amazing, it's my favorite dish! the egg flower soup, walnut shrimp, and beef and broccoli are also my go-tos here. service is always pretty quick and responsive. the restaurant has never been packed when i've been, so it can be a bit quiet inside. parking is also ample. i absolutely love coming here and highly recommend if you're craving some delicious traditional chinese food!

Yelp
This restaurant has become a favorite of mine for my Chinese food cravings. It is located near my house, and I have either dined in or ordered food via Uber Eats. In the past, I always used to just drive by this place, until one day I decided to walk in and try it out. My two favorite dishes here are: Three Flavor Spicy Curry Fried Rice and the Three Flavor Dough Sliced Chow Mein. The portions provided for each dish are huge, and typically last me 2 more days when I don't eat everything in one setting. For the price you definitely get bang for the buck. Most of all, the food is tasty, seasoned just right, and the proteins like beef and chicken are tender, and the shrimp are nice and plump. Whenever I dine in or order food online here, the quality and quantity are what makes this spot my "go to" for Chinese food.

Tasfia K.

Yelp
Terrible customer service, mid food to be honest after waiting almost 3 hours. Came at 7 and left at 10, didn't even get the appetizers we ordered while waiting. If you asked a question, they'd show attitude.

Yelp
Family style dining for large groups of people or individuals with hefty appetites. The proportions are HUGE. Each dish serves at least 3 people. My favorite dishes were the 3 Flavor Fried Rice w/ beef, chicken and shrimp and the sesame breads from the dim sum menu (which serves about 5-7). People who don't eat pork will appreciate Ma's House, as everything is halal. I get tired of asking if there's pork or lard in the foods I order at other Asian restaurants that tend to use a lot of pork products. Modern decor with soothing neutral colors. Super clean. Very reasonably priced for the generous amount of food served. Excellent for large families and groups. Tons of parking.

Yelp
Came here the other night for dinner and was really disappointed. Our first issue was getting room temperature water with no ice. And the second issue was the food, it was extremely underwhelming and bland. I got what I thought was going to be a good plate but the play I received was just minced meat that resembled dog food. I was highly upset.

Yelp
I did not know about this halal Chinese restaurant until some members of the mosque I attend recommended. The food and the services are great, and they also provide a room for prayer. If you are Muslim that loves Chinese food, this place is a must.

Paula K.

Yelp
Disappointing experience overall. When I called with basic questions about the halal authenticity (like if the meat was hand-slaughtered (specific method) or the supplier name), the woman on the phone was rude and dismissive. In person, service was rushed and disorganized--they kept messing up our order. The guy eventually brought the iPad over so we could enter it ourselves... and they still got it wrong. The food was mediocre. The beef was just salty, the "spicy" chicken was bland, and the scallion pancakes had maybe 1-2 tiny bits of scallion. I thought they were plain by mistake, but was told that's how they make them. I ended up pulling green onions from the beef just to give them flavor. The restroom was also in poor condition--bad smell, no soap, toilet paper, paper towels, or seat covers. Definitely not coming back.

Yelp
We remembered this place from a visit to SD 3 years ago and had to return once back in the area! The food is absolutely delicious, and everything we tried was done well. The staff are so speedy and courteous. Plenty of room for families with kids. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Really good Chinese food. Service is great. My favorite dish was orange chicken. It's halal Chinese food. It's the best. There is not much halal food in sd.

Yelp
The food here is good, but it is seriously under-staffed. There's one man and one woman (probably husband and wife), running around to service all the tables. I'm not kidding, the poor lady was constantly running to keep up with the demands. They were both very pleasant. The restaurant is clean and spacious. For the size of the restaurant and volume of customers and to-go orders, they need at least 2 more employees (and that's a bare minimum). For our visit, we ordered the hot & sour soup and the hand shaved noodle stir fry with shrimp. The portions were huge! Great value! There's a large parking lot with plenty of parking spaces. Once they get their staffing issues straightened out, I think this will be a great restaurant to consider for large parties and special events. Come check them out, but have patience!

Yelp
Ma's House, which has a location in Orange County, replaced a previous Chinese restaurant (forgot the name) at Madison Place in Clairemont Mesa. The huge dining room was bright with a modern decor. It could easily seat over 100 customers. I grew up in an area with access to a lot of halal prepared food but never Chinese cuisine so it was cool to see the mix of Middle Easterners, Asian Indians, and Chinese who were dining when I arrived. The menu was overwhelming with many choices... appetizers, cold dishes, soups, warm pots, dim sum, lamb, beef, seafood, poultry, vegetables, fried rice, home-style noodles, noodle soup, and chow mein/chow fun. There were probably close to 200 different entries. Note that steamed white rice was not included with the individual items so it must be ordered a la carte. I picked the Steamed Chicken Dumplings and the Lamb Dough Sliced Chow Mein for my meal. The noodles actually came out first. What I really liked was the lack of oiliness in the chow mein. Too many places cook their noodles using an abundance of oil which leaves the dish very greasy. The dumplings were served as a set of ten resting on a large lettuce leaf inside a steamer. They weren't too doughy, and the chicken filling was decent. Family style is the way to go at Ma's House. Bring a large group to enjoy and share the offerings. Overall, I gave my dining experience a four star rating.

Yelp
I was curious to try Ma's House after driving past it a few times as soon as I stepped it I got a funky scent and was tempted to leave but decided to stay and I was the only other table there (total of 2 parties) also alarming... I ordered the lunch special and some cream cheese wontons. As soon as I got my cream cheese wontons I realized they had been burnt and after I took a bite I noticed they were cold on the inside (they probably put the oil really hot to make them quick and compromised the taste) I then wanted to try the soup but got disgusted trying to pick some up with the spoon cause it had a mucus-like texture... not sure if this is how it's normally served but I didn't even dare to try it. I got the orange beef which had no flavor. Anyway now I know why it was empty - poor ambiance (no music and bad smells of dirty mop), and bad food.

Yelp
We came on Sunday, October 30th, 2022 around 11:30 AM when they just opened. The restaurant was solely just us and we shared family style (6 people). Plenty of parking. Clean restaurant interior. We ordered: -Three Flavors Sizzling Soup: interesting soup that came out with rice on the side. The waiter asked if we want to use all of the rice, but we asked just for half of the rice to be poured in. Tasted alright, godo to have soup on a cold day. -Mongolian Beef: Moist and juicy. You can't go wrong with ordering this! -Honey Walnut Shrimp: Mmhmm! I always love honey walnut shrimp. The mayo and the honey in the sauce is always such a good combination. -Eggplant with Spicy Sauce: We ordered without meat which was great since we saw this one as our veggie dish from our choices. Very tasty. -Chicken Chow Mein: this was alright, the usual chicken chow mein. -House Special Chicken: very saucy and flavorful. We ordered 4 bowls of rice whic they combined into 1 medium size bowl with lid to keep it warm. We had 3 guys and 3 girls in our group and finished everything. They were out of lamb with pickled cabbage when we were there. And I swear I didn't see lamb with cumin on the menu when we went, but when looking onsite on their menu, it show's it's there. I wonder if the menu we were looking at might have changed. There is also no alcohol here. This is apparently a chain restaurant where they have two other locations in Anaheim and Laguna Hills. I would recommend if you have a group that wants to share family style and catch up.

Yelp
Been to the LA area location and the food was good . Haven't been back to this location since they originally opened ..this place has gone down hill..given the size of the restaurant on a weekend at lunch we were the only table which is telling enough ..food not worthy of pics ..would not recommend this for the price or taste..

Yelp
Ma's House is quiet at lunch time. Lots of parking available unlike most Convoy St eateries. Three Flavors Won Ton soup came with shrimp, chicken, and beef. Broth was on the salty side with lots of salt/msg. Won tons had a thick won ton wrapper and a small amount of chicken inside. Luckily there was lots of chicken and beef in the soup to negate the starchy flavor from the won ton wrapper. Good amount of snow peas, carrots, mushrooms, and napa cabbage in the soup. Overall this is a good dish. Next time I'll ask for less salt. Three flavors chow mein had a heavy white pepper aroma and flavor. Noodles had a mild flavor I liked. Shrimp was plump and had a fresh flavor. Chicken was tender and moist. Beef was thin and had a tasty fresh flavor. I liked the flavor of the fresh bean sprouts and napa cabbage. This would be a great dish with less white pepper. Beef short ribs was $20 for a generous amount of beef. Very strong garlic flavor and there were lots of pieces of garlic on top of the beef. I'm not a garlic fan so I removed most of the pieces. Beef was tender and had a sweet flavor I liked.

Yelp
This is a huge restaurant, big enough for a convention group, so when you're the only one there it seems really lonely. As it did when I went for their lunch special by myself one day a short time back, around 1 pm. When I entered the restaurant, I stood next to the counter by the door. The "greater" wasn't there; I could see she was seated in a small room to my left, where she was alone at one of the diner tables working on a laptop. When she noticed me, I was seated in the other, much larger main room. It was empty but looked like they were set up for a large number of customers. Maybe their main business is later in the day or at night? She left, and a person showed up who I think was the server, busboy, and cook. He was the only staff person I saw. I ordered the orange chicken lunch special, which would be a pretty good deal if your main goal is to get stuffed. It came with a cup of soup (tasty), two egg rolls (very tasty -- the highlight of the meal), and white rice (lots). I ordered tea but didn't realize there was a charge for that. It was just $1, so not a big deal, but in the majority of Asian restaurants I've been to that have tea in a pot, it's free. Unfortunately, the pot was so hot I couldn't pick it up to pour myself some tea until I was half finished with my meal. The orange chicken was pretty pedestrian. But it was a gigantic serving, and I could hardly finish by myself. Along with the generous amount of rice, it could easily have been a shared lunch for two. It was listed on the menu as "spicy", but all that meant was that they put in a half-dozen roasted red chilis. The chili's were very good and added flavor that the dish desperately needed. But the chicken, unless eaten with one of the chilis, wasn't spicy at all. The cook/server/busboy cashed me out but alas! He forgot to add the $1 charge for the tea. He realized that he had done so just after bringing the bill to the table, so he went off somewhere and fixed it. So much effort to collect that extra $1, but I suppose the profit margin on their lunch special (which I think was only $12.50 or $13.50) is probably pretty slim. I'm undecided as to whether I want to go back. It might be worth another try. If I do return, I think I'll do so with someone else -- to share. And I really don't think I'll order a pot of tea.

Yelp
Not sure why this little gem is not more popular. Parking is never an issue (no need to drive around or fight for a spot in any establishment along convoy) and on most evening it is not crowded (usually only open half of the restaurant). The food is exceptionally good. I think some people are intimidated by the name of the restaurant thinking that it is a vegetarian restaurant. They serve every type of meat except pork. Large portion, and ask for less spicy if you are not into really hot and spicy food. Had sweet and sour fish, shaved noodles, etc. on previous visits, all very good.

Yelp
The food was good and the portions are large. The food tasted like it had been freshly prepared and did not have that "canned " taste like other restaurants. The facility seemed like it has been recently remodeled and made for a great experience.

Yelp
This is a super late review since I visited back in September last year. I've been to Ma's in Fullerton so I was excited there was a location here in San Diego also. It was super quiet the night I came and was pretty empty for a Friday evening. The waitress was nice but short, not frou frou or super friendly but she meant business. I ordered the scallion pancake, which was thin and savory, perfect for sauces. I also ordered the orange chicken because it's a staple and I was so excited to try it halal. It was delicious and cripsy with a good amount of sauce without being overly saucy. The tofu with vegetables was good and the vegetables were still a bit crunchy and not soggy. The star was the chili sauce which the waitress advised me was made in-house. She graciously packed plenty for me as I needed to take a lot of this home as these are definitely family-style servings. I need to go back soon to try more of their dishes and also hope to support their business here. There was plenty of parking outside and inside is modern, spacious, well-lit, and very clean.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Sunday. There was no wait, we were seated right away. It looked like only one employee was working - hosting, serving and bussing by herself. At first it wasn't too bad but it got way more busy through our meal and could tell she was stressed. But she remained friendly to us and did her job great! We ordered the sautéed pea pod leaves, green onion pancake, orange beef, and honey walnut shrimp. All the food came out incredibly fast! It felt like we had just put in our order and it was already ready! All the dishes were great! The honey walnut shrimp was my favorite. I would recommend trying it! The orange beef was crisp and tangy. The sautéed pea pods were flavorful and addicting. The onion pancake is great with some of the hot chili oil. Overall, Ma's House definitely has great Chinese food. I haven't encountered a wait when I've come here and the staff is always nice. Hope to come here again soon!

Yelp
My noprofit organization just held an event for 35 people at Ma's House. The room we were in could have held many more people. All of the food was fresh and delicious and our server, Eng, did an excellent job. Working with Ma's House to prepare for our event was very simple and they were happy to accomodate our requests. Prices are very reasonable and portions are generous. This restaurant is spacious, with good accoustics and a comfortable, pleasant atmosphere. Our guests loved all the food we pre-ordered! The eggplant with brown sauce, chicken and beef wonton soup, and sesame bread with green onions were my favorite dishes. I recommend Ma's House for your next small- to medium-sized event, or for a memorable meal with family or friends.

Yelp
I'm Hui on my paternal side so this restaurant is the food of my people more so than most Chinese joints. The meat here is really good. I don't know if halal contributes to the taste or texture of the meat at all, but my people know how to grill some lamb and beef. There's flavors and aftertastes that remind me of being 3 again that I can't find anywhere else. That being said, there's some major issues with the restaurant that kept the overall dining experience from being enjoyable. The interior is possibly the worst restaurant design I've ever been in. I don't usually comment on the physical building itself because I believe taste comes before everything, but there was so much uncomfortable and wrong about it that it demands criticism. The inside is a giant empty hall flooded with uncomfortably bright white fluorescent lights, with nothing to break up the emptiness from wall to wall. It felt more like a military mess hall than a family restaurant, and the lighting was uncomfortably blinding for dinner time. They also left every single door wide open on a rare rainy day in San Diego, so the inside was around 60 degrees and our food turned cold the instant it was served. It's pretty hard to enjoy any meal while getting frozen and blinded. The service here is also a dumpster fire. We didn't get menus for at least 15 minutes after being seated with reservations, and the guy came back for our order a couple minutes later despite knowing we only just got the menus. The kitchen is pretty slow and got one of our orders wrong. I ate my entire meal without water because despite asking for water twice and then the check, no one bothered to give us a refill the entire time we were there. A salty meaty meal becomes much less enjoyable once you realize it's making you incredibly thirsty with nothing to quench yourself with. Employees were arguing in public with each other over what I assumed to be mistakes with other tables orders as well. It's really unfortunate this place has so many problems assuring the basic comfort of its guests, because the food has a lot of potential.

Yelp
Chinese is a cuisine that is hard to find halal so when I found this restaurant across the street from my hotel, I tried it as fast as I could! It was hard to choose from the extensive 100% halal menu but I got the orange chicken and black pepper beef. Everything was absolutely delicious. The servings are very big and I would recommend eating family style. It made 3 or meals for two people. The restaurant is clean and looks recently renovated. They weren't very busy for lunch so we got great service.

Yelp
got beef organs but got pure beef. Asked for refund they denied. If you can't make beef organs then why have it on your menu? Why don't just call it beef fried vegetables?

Yelp
This restaurant has no pork, it's halal. The Stir fry lamb with cumin, beef warm pot, sesame scallion pancake, three flavors handmade noodle are really good!

Yelp
Ordered for takeout from Ma's and it was good for the price. The Mongolian beef was good and had a kick at the end. The fried wontons were the highlight here even with delivery.

Yelp
This fair weather Jew is pretty satisfied. Thanks for supporting Christmas 2021. I got in the Uber Eats game early in the day to make sure I had a late lunch. After combing through 6 or 7 Uber recommended Chinese places, I landed on Ma's. Seemed like a good American Chinese place. Portions are fair for the price. -Orange chicken was legit -Mongolian beef was pretty good but not the best I've had -The fried shrimp appetizer was disappointing. I expected fried shrimp (like popcorn shrimp) but it was shrimp mush shaped into fish shaped patties. Also a little fishy smelling. But my dogs enjoyed it! - what I would have preferred was some fake-crab crab Rangoon but no such luck on the menu :( Overall, I was pleasantly full w my meal and will likely order from here again if I'm in the mood for take out, rather than risk it elsewhere.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from Ma's a few months ago and I really enjoyed the fried rice. I dined-in here this week and it was a horrible experience. I took my family and a friend out to dinner and they only eat halal food so Ma's was an easy choice. We walked in and asked for a table and immediately knew the service would be bad. The servers were incredibly rude and when we asked for a table instead of a booth they were yelling at us. It was a weekday night so the restaurant was about half full but it was easy to get seated. We ordered a few items such as Orange Chicken, Spicy Eggplant, Three Flavors fried rice, filet mignon with peppers. We were disappointed in the quality of the food. It tasted like old takeout that was refried. All of our stomachs were hurting within a few hours. I've heard that the OC location is much better but I'm not sure if I would even go after my experience at the SD location.

Yelp
Today we were feeling lazy so we ordered take out from Ma's we have always gone in and eaten. Our food was horrid. The egg rolls were soggy and not really filled they forgot our rice and their orange shrimp was tough tasteless and drowned in an uninspiring sauce with only 2 red. Peppers in it I will have to think twice before I order from them. Their food is usually delicious but not tonight. Tonight it was horrible not. Worth the )$81 I. Paid for it

Yelp
Best Chinese food I've ever had in my life. Everything is handmade, cooked fresh to order. Halal always tastes better.

Yelp
Thank you for a good meal, we traveled a good 100 miles just to come here. Well to clarify, we did have to go to another place but made this pit stop for lunch a priority. To give you a little back story and why I would even try to drive this far for lunch is because I've been a fan of Ma's Islamic since they first opened on Garvey. Yes, more than 30 years ago. I've had nothing but terrific food here, it was always packed and service was outstanding. So then, we moved to Orange County shortly after and I tend to find myself making the drive back to the SGV just to pick up some of these dishes from here. Ya know, nostalgic food and unforgettable meals. Fast forward more than a decade in the 2000s, they opened Ma's House restaurant. When I had found out, I was maybe one of the few people that dined that week. I had ordered maybe $80 worth of their halal dishes for two people. Needless to say, there were plenty of leftovers. Everything was just as I remembered as a young adult. (I believe they also opened one in Tustin around the same that and I had that as well but they closed). This was our to go to restaurant for many years. That is, until we came here as a family around late 2010 and we noticed it tasted different. Ya know, after eating here for hundreds of times, we became some what of an expert. We also noticed the daughter who ran the restaurant was no longer running the front and taking all the checks. As I inquire more about this place, we learned that Anaheim was sold off to another group. Since then, we have not been back. So now, we were here. Since we only had 2 people again, we ordered: Sesame Pie with onions (Terrific) Mongolian beef lunch special (good) Spicy eggplant lunch special (good) Three flavored pan fried knive cut soup noodle (not as good as I had remembered) The lunch specials were smaller in portions and more expensive than what I can remember. They were over $11 each dish and it wasn't much on a plate but it was good and came with a corn soup and rice from what I had remembered. The three flavored knive noodles were gummy, did not have that bounce from freshly made noodles but the soup was good and brought back some memories. Lunch special runs until 3pm I believe. We made it just in time. It's situated in a strip mall that didn't have a lot of businesses open on weekends. I don't know that the previous business was, but this place could've been passed as a diner in another setting. There was only 1 person working here in the front. She handled everything, I mean everything from getting water, dishes, checks, clean tables. Apparently she understood Mandarin as everything I requested was in that dialect. She never acknowledge with a yes or a no, but she did get us everything we needed and only said "Thank you" as we were leaving. Thank you making this another nostalgic food trip for me, I will make a trip back here again only when I'm in the area because taking noodles home, that just don't work well at all.

Yelp
Excellent, many halal Northern Chinese regional items not usually encountered here but also a large number of choices that people expect in most American Chinese restaurants. We had a tasty pickled Napa cabbage soup with lamb, a lamb and green onions entree, a shrimp and an orange chicken entree, eggplant side, and sesame bread. Servings were generous and we feasted on leftovers for a couple of days. Service was appropriate, ambiance is fairly basic, no frills strip mall. All in all an enjoyable evening! Only negative was an odd sewer gas odor in restroom, which thankfully was not detectable elsewhere on the premises.

Yelp
5 stars for the food. Best dish we had was the chicken fried rice. The staff is understaffed, and did their best.
