Mixed emotions, lol. Let's just say for me, personally, my honest opinion based on me. The sushi was awesome, had the fantastic roll, and even though on the menu pic, it looked like 4 pieces it's actually 8 huge pieces tightly squeezed together, very filling and full of sushi goodness. The appetizers were also awesome, had the Takoyaki, and my wife had the soft shell crab. The let down was really in the entree for me I ordered spicey mango chicken and to be honest it only started tasting good when I added soy sauce and for an entree like that it should have had more spot on flavor. I think it was missing the essential Asian flavors that make Asian food stand out, you know the msg, the yumyum, the chicken powder, and the 5 spice were all missing. If you crave healthy tasting food then it's the spot for you if your looking for that bold Asian flavor it's not there in the entrees, but the sushi and apps are great. Service was quick n friendly price was decent.

Google
The food selection was amazing. Wide variety of Japanese and Chinese food. The sushi and appetizer were everything I could have hoped for. This was my first time eating there and it exceeded all expectations. Excellent

Google
I went here for my birthday on the 9th of October and let me tell y’all it was absolutely AMAZING!! The food was absolutely out of this world! I have a very high expectation for fish and ordered the sushi sashimi combo and it was absolutely STUNNING!!! That is up in my top ten of best fish I’ve ever had! The staff was absolutely so kind and the vibe was just so welcoming and comforting. It also was quiet which I loved.10/10 I’d recommend to go and enjoy some amazing sushi.

Google
Updated my original review from last year. This restaurant has gone downhill!! Seems like all new staff and cooks. I got ramen today; the presentation overall was atrocious and it smelled like toilet water, seriously! We won't be back again and it's a shame, as this was one of our favorites in town. Posted last year, originally. Quick seating for a Friday night. Food was delectable! Waitress was very attentive, knowledgeable and professional yet friendly. My new favorite restaurant in Abilene!

Google
Love coming to MASA! Their menu is huge, and the dishes I've ordered have been excellently executed. It's a great place for families, business meetings, and date nights! My favorites are the scorpion roll and avocado bomb. Sometimes, during lunch, they forget to bring out the soup, but they're always happy to make corrections when reminded.

Google
Fresh and unique rolls. The Spicy tuna was very yummy! The presentation was also fun!

Google
Food was very good. My granddaughter calls this the soup place. She loves the soup! It is a small "strip mall style" restaurant with booths and tables. There is also a bar you could sit at as well. The atmospher was pleasant and bright. Place was clean. There were 8 of us and they accommodated us quickly. Only wait was for them to put tables together.

Google
My experience here was great! You will be greeted by modern Asian decor. The hostess is friendly and I was seated really quickly. But they weren't busy at all. My server was promptly introducing himself and taking drink orders. Once I ordered my food, it was quickly brought to the table. The service here was very good. The food was brought out at a good temperature and the flavor was fantastic. I was able to try three different dishes and they were all delicious. My only complaint would be that the hibachi chicken was a bit dry but it is floating in a sauce, so, it was that bad. I was very satisfied with my experience here at Masa!

Yelp
Food is always top knotch at Masa!! They started in San Angelo and we were SO glad they expanded to Abilene! Very classy Asian ambience and attentive service. But the Food, always gourmet presentation and high end taste!!!

Yelp
Great little restaurant with sit down service. Perfect for people with gluten sensitivity or diabetics. They can cook your food with gluten-free soy sauce if you ask for it. And the edamame, avocado salad, and Naruto (sushi made with a cucumber shell instead of rice) are perfect for people watching their blood sugar levels. Cori, our server, was very attentive and careful with our food intolerances. The best part was finishing off the meal with some yummy mochi. We will be bringing our husbands with us next time!
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had! Not only is the Sushi amazing, their presentation is top notch! I highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
I came in later afternoon so it wasn't busy but it was very very hot and there was maybe 2 other tables in the building. I was physically sweating. The food was okay, nothing crazy to go on about. I just got the chicken hibachi. The server/manager was super helpful to my party to help my friend pick a wine she liked since they were out of the moscato.

Yelp
Finally decided to give Masa a try! Their atmosphere is so wonderful and so is their service. We tried their Edamame and the Scorpion roll and we were very happy with them. Loved that the menu had photos of the rolls for reference. We'll be back to try more!

Yelp
Coming from the west coast we're sushi snobs. Trust me when I say we're glad to have real sushi in Abilene

Mara C.

Yelp
Hair in food. Manager didn't even come over to the table. Highly overpriced. We canceled our entrees after finding hair in the salad and still paid over $50.

Yelp
It was great service the food was good but tit was just hard to enjoy it the building was so hot. I know it's Texas and we aren't ok at the moment but we were the only people there can't imagine when it's packed.

Yelp
Best place ever to eat the sushi and squid bar bbq and the service was so astonishing that we tipped

Yelp
After a year of being on my list of places to dine in, my wife and I visited Masa Bistro and Sushi Bar. I regret not going to this place before. The service, the ambiance, the food presentation, the music, the flavor, and the decoration are on point; Masa pays attention to the details. Their prices and portions correlate, and I am happy to say they are more affordable than other restaurants in town. I would return to this place and try other items on their menu, and I also highly recommend it to friends and family.

Yelp
For my first time dining in Masa I had an excellent experience. The decor was nice and popping. Menu was big and had a lot of variety. Food was very good with affordable prices and big portions. Service was fast and easy , even with a lot of people eating at the time. Definitely recommend this place & will be coming back for sure !

Yelp
We really enjoy Masa Sushi and all the options they offer. Delaney is an awesome server and always remembers what we like. We love thus place but there is a major drawback that might stop us from continuing to dine there... the bathrooms are in horrible shape. They really need to take the time and money to clean to and maintain them...this is a huge drawback.

Yelp
An amazing restaurant with lovely atmosphere! The servers were incredibly friendly and courteous! The food was both beautiful and delicious; the sushi chef is an amazing artist! would highly recommend!

Yelp
I absolutely loved the food here. Service was excellent! Very clean and update place. You can tell this place cares about how the food looks and taste. The design of this place make you feel like you're in a different world when eating here. This is a must to go place. We will be back!

Yelp
I am updating my review, masa has really turned it around since opening day. I go here all the time now, with great food and great service.
google avatar

Yelp
Best sushi in town. Not that there are many options, but even in a big city with many sushi restaurants Masa would hold up as a solid 3.5-star. Service is awesome, especially the management. It does take quite some time to receive your sushi usually and that gets even more complicated if others at your table order hot food because they will be well into their meal before you see sushi. Decent tap beer selection and a good spread of food options. Only real downside is it is far more expensive than any competitors in town. But, lunch sushi deals are an excellent way around the high costs!
google avatar

Ren B.

Yelp
The ambiance is nice and the server was great. However the sushi itself was terrible. I love sushi and was excited to try this place. I ordered the cowboy roll and the yellowtail sashimi. I only had a few bites of both and did not finish. The sashimi made me gag because it has such a fishy taste.

Yelp
We had dinner about 6:30 Wednesday evening. The restaurant is decorated very nicely, very bright. Oscar greeted us and took our drink order. Oscar returned to take our order, no drinks. After taking our order, Oscar returned with Glenda's soup and salad, no drinks. We waited a few minutes while Oscar played on his phone at the bar. I got Oscar's attention and asked if we could have our drinks. When Oscar returned with our drinks, I showed him the fly that was swimming in Glenda's cold soup. He immediately took the soup away and promised to bring a hot bowl of soup. Well, when the soup finally came out, it was warm and flyless, which is a good thing. Our entrees arrived, hibachi chicken for Glenda, and Singapore Mei Fun for me. As you can see in the pictures, both looked great. Unfortunately, both were slightly bland. Asian spices are wonderful at stimulating your taste buds. Don't get me wrong, both dishes were......ok, just not wonderful. We both ate less than half, and got to go boxes. Definitely not a great first visit. Service certainly needs to improve. We will return to try the sushi. Thank you for your time.

Yelp
My wife and I ate here for the first time on Saturday, Memorial Day weekend. My expectations were low given the other sushi options in Abilene have been very hit or miss with the misses accounting for 70% of the experiences. Masa is a different story. The food and hot sake were outstanding so I had to share a quick review. We started with fried tofu and lettuce wraps, both were delicious. Then I ordered the sushi deluxe plate and my wife had a Philadelphia roll. Both were very fresh. The food came out fast and waiter was very attentive. I'm no hot sake connoisseur, but this hot sake was very good and tasted very fresh. I've been served hot sake so many times where the alcohol was cooked out and the wine tasted old and sour. This was completely different and tasted much better than the sake at PF Changs and anywhere that I can recall. The decor is great and has a modern Asian spin. It truly felt like I was back in Houston. We're definitely going back Masa Bistro ans Sushi Bar and next time we're taking friends!

Yelp
Masa is the closest thing to true sushi in Abilene. I suggest the Godzilla Roll. Husband got the Cowboy Roll, but the siracha sauce def turned me off (but he loved it). The best part of the meal were the Cheese Wontons. Best I've ever had.... Anywhere... ever. Give this place a try!

Yelp
This place has learned a thing or two from the last time I visited. You are no longer treated to a fish smelling slap to the face as soon as you enter. They learned to use some air freshener. I also had a lot better service compared to the last time I was here. The waiter checked in on us many times during our stay. The food was good but definitely too pricy for me to eat there all the time. I recommend this place to anyone who wants to give someone a special meal as in a date, birthday, or someone who is able to spend anywhere from $20-$80 per person. Not everything on the menu is so pricey, but I saw one roll with approximately 10 pieces cost $27.99 and that was before tax. All in all, a tasty place, but watch what you order or bring a thick wallet.

Audrey S.

Yelp
Excellent service and the food has such a great flavor! Love the chicken fried rice. The best!!
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
Online menu said I would get soup and salad with order. I got neither. Called restaurant and they argued with me. Told me it was not their problem basically it was a door dash issue. I will not be back. Rude and rolls weren't even that good.
google avatar

Brad C.

Yelp
Not enough staff to sufficiently cover the amount of guests. The appetizers came out timely, however; the main course(s) took about thirty minutes to arrive. When they finally did arrive, my wife's dish was cold. When we were leaving the tables that weren't occupied still had dirty plates and had not been serviced.

Yelp
Amazing place and great service...love this place oh and try this sparkling sake!! Hope to have this place for years to come.
google avatar

Yelp
What are you doing? Why aren't you at the BEST sushi in Abilene? MASA has it all. Premium sushi, wide selection of sake, traditional Chinese food, noodles, something for everyone. It's super yummy.
google avatar

Earline C.

Yelp
Overpriced. Service was fair at best. Only went once and haven't been back. Ambiance, service and food was not good enough for a retry. Maybe it's gotten better?

K H.

Yelp
If you asked me how this place was 5 months ago, I would have said amazing, but tonight was not it. I ordered food with my family and they completely forgot my order and instead of just quickly making the roll that wasn't added, I was put to the back of the queue. I just sat and watched my family eat. What a disappointment! Then after everyone was done eating they asked if I just wanted it to go because it would be another 10 min.
google avatar

H. Y. S.

Yelp
I was excited at first about this place opening but after two visits I'm just feeling a bit "meh" about it. The food is all right. Nothing spectacular. Having grown up in Japan as a child I was really missing the food. The staff was very attentive and provided great service. Hope things improve! がんばれ!

Yelp
Went in on Monday 1pm, very empty restaurant, only about 2 other tables with patrons. My mom and I ordered 2 waters, egg roll appetizer, chicken katsu lunch special, lunch chicken hibachi. We received the egg rolls and the onion soups--delicious! After about 10 min the waitress came and let us know the chicken katsu is cooked fresh to order and would take a little while. We said that was fine and thanked her. Another 10 min went by and she returned and said the chef had mistakenly begun cooking something else and was barely starting the chicken katsu. She said it would be another 20 minutes. As it was my lunch hour, this obviously wouldn't work. I asked for the check and to my surprise the hostess came and said that it had only been 17 min since we ordered, afterall and if we really had to leave. I said yes, I need to go. I'm not against paying for my food, but when service is bad like this, lunch wasn't even provided and an entire lunch hour wasted, I personally wouldn't have charged my customer. Paid $8 for waters and our egg roll appetizers. Very, very disappointed.

Yelp
We ordered Masa because two different friends recommended it. That was our first and last time eating there. I ordered Teriyaki Steak, Hibachi NY Strip Steak, Chicken Lo Mien, and Pork Gyoza. The Gyoza was great...and that was it. The noodles had an unusual flavor, and the Teriyaki Steak had very little flavor. The Hibachi Steak, however was the worst. The steak tasted like spoiled meat, so much so that I wasn't able to choke down even one piece. We spent $100 on this meal, and 90% of it went into the trash. I don't know if they were having an off night, based on other great reviews, but we will never be back to find out.
google avatar

Ashleigh H.

Yelp
Been here a few times and it's been great every time! We've had the egg rolls, edamame, sushi, hibachi, and Chinese. Would order all of it again. I think Abilene needed this place and it's my new sushi and Chinese go to.
google avatar

Yelp
We came on a Friday evening and it took about 20 minutes to be seated. This is a new restaurant for Abilene. We think they have been opened for around a month, so we were hoping that they had worked the bugs out. There are a couple excellent Asian restaurants locally and from appearances and the crowd, this one could join that number. The decor is interesting and welcoming. Once we were seated it took about 5 minutes for anyone to ask about drink orders. We just wanted iced tea, in spite of being seated in the bar area. There are times being seated in a bar area are fine, but this was t really my preference. I think the other "side" is a little quieter, although the bar area isn't nearly as loud as many. It's just a lot of traffic. Our server walked bye several times while we were waiting. A different server asked twice if we had put in drink orders while we were trying to be patient. We were just about to walk out when the iced tea (it was cool with just a remnant of what had been ice cubes) showed up a hair over 15 minutes later. The server took our orders at the same time. My wife asked about one of the entrees and the server didn't have a clue. She did say that she could go ask, but we declined not knowing how long before she would show up again. Instead of ordering what looked appetizing, we opted for what we thought might be fastest - a common chicken with vegetables dish for my wife and simple fried rice for me. When they brought my wife's miso soup it was excellent. About 12 minutes after placing our order, the meals were served. Both were excellent. The server did come by once and ask about refills on the iced tea. When I finished she briskly dropped off the check and left before we could even ask for a box for the remaining portion of my wife's order. While we were waiting for her to return a different server - the one who had asked early on about our drink orders - stopped by and picked up a box for my wife. I'm still waiting for our server to stop back by for my payment. In summary... This could have been an excellent experience. Certainly would have been 5 stars based on the quality of food; but dining out is part food and part service. The food was excellent. The service was grossly lacking. I'm usually close to 25% on tips and have been as high as 500% - so leaving a 17% tip should say something. Sadly, I don't think she's listening. I'll be back, but I'll be looking for a different table.
google avatar

Terry J.

Yelp
Went there on a first date. First impressions, the place was really nice and clean, the service was great and so was the food! Will be back!
google avatar

Emma C.

Yelp
That was the worst meal that I've ever had. Rice was burned. The attentiveness of the servers was horrible.. I ordered fried rice and that wasn't good, my daughter didn't even eat it which was surprising. Very unprofessional hostess and servers
google avatar

Cynthia N.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times. The decor makes you feel like you've left Abilene and are in Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio. There was definitely a big city vibe going on. The first time was right after they opened and hadn't worked all the kinks out. However, with that being said each time I've gone back it has only gotten better. My fiancé and I took my mom there. When she was looking at the menu she said it was expensive (My mom is 82, so what she considers expensive is not necessarily what we consider expensive. However, once she got her food the price was no longer an issue. She loved everything she ordered and even tried the sushi rolls we ordered and loved them as well. That's saying a lot. Almost every place she eats at, she says, it's too salty. She was also very impressed with how much food you got. The next time we went was the day we got married. We went to the JP's office and had our closet friends and family with us. Once we left there we went there. My mom was excited about going back. There were 7 of us and we were sat quickly. Everyone loved the appetizers and the sushi rolls we ordered. My sister-in-law got some kind of salad , I think, with avocado and sweet potatoes. She said it was good. It looked delicious. The rest of us ordered the bento boxes. They were amazing! The last time I went was about a week ago. My son came from Houston and I took him there. When we got inside he saId, "where am I, did I just leave Abilene? He was so impressed with the Cowboy roll and the Szechuan shredded beef with fried rice, which we shared. The manager came by and spoke with us and was very friendly. Our server was also friendly and came by several times to see if we needed anything. This has officially became our favorite Japanese restaurant!

Kim G.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised... we love every single roll on the menu, so far. The fish is fresh and delicious. This is definitely our "go to" place at least once a week!! Whoever gives this place a bad review, clearly wants this place for themselves... Make you're own decision and try it out... best sushi decision we made.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
good food great atmosphere but a little pricey. Wait staff was great. potions were large. Ill go back but share a bento dish instead of ordering one for myself.

Gina B.

Yelp
I didn't really expect to find an amazing Japanese restaurant in Abilene but this place was great. The service was wonderful. The food was very good. They had a wide selection of rolls including a whole page that had been created by their chef. I ordered the Masa rolls and California rolls with a milk tea. My daughter had the scorpion roll and a marble soda. We were completely happy with all of it. I think this will be our go to place when we are in Abilene

Johanne M.

Yelp
Went in with some friends and the staff was very welcoming and kind! Our server, Daxon(?), was attentive and checked on us often to make sure we got what we needed. The food was delicious, too! It didn't take long for it to come to our table. It maybe the closest legit sushi you'll ever get in Abilene. Too bad people are unforgiving in this town when a new restaurant opens, but they definitely are worth to go to!
google avatar

Alex J.

Yelp
Melissa and Brady went above and beyond as my fiancé and my servers for the evening. They were friendly, personable, and fun! They always stopped by at the perfect times and made tailored suggestions to our tastes and dining experience. We enjoyed a variety off the sushi menu, and were pleasantly surprised by the high quality fish and explosion of flavors. Very happy to see a fancier sushi restaurant open in Abilene.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
Food is pretty good. We go regularly for lunch for the specials and I've always had good sushi. Service is mediocre. I used to be a server so I can tell if you're busy or lazy. Which is fine. It was a 2 pm on a Tuesday so I'm not there for the impeccable service. We ordered waters and a couple rolls and we still tipped close to 20 percent. She forgot my soup and salad that came with the meal and brought if after the sushi only after I asked, which again, no big deal. It wasn't until I noticed on my credit card the amount had been changed. Tried to give her the benefit of the doubt and maybe she entered it in wrong. Then I saw the receipt. The server changed her tip to 8 dollars and then didn't even add the amount correctly. And this isn't 8 dollars for the table. That's 8 dollars EACH PERSON. We had to ask the manager multiple times just to get a refund which they finally did. It's not even the money it's the principle someone would steal from you. And then the waitress STILLLLL works there and that's why I wrote this review. So just beware if your tab has some extra fees on there she probably gonna steal from you too.

Shane D.

Yelp
Such an awesome experience and SO glad Abilene has something like this. Sushi was great quality and reasonably priced and the spicy edamame was fantastic! Melissa was also absolutely fantastic...so energetic, knowledgeable, and engaging. Will definitely request to sit in her section when we return. I encourage you don't listen to these reviews of when they first opened. See for yourself, we didn't experience any of the issues that were stated. There's always hiccups in a new restaurant and this city is absolutely terrible at understanding that which is one reason we are so bad keeping businesses. We'll see you soon Misa!

Jessica A.

Yelp
Best Pad Thai in town! However, when we went, it took a while to get food. We will back and I recommend if you are looking for pad Thai!

Raquel H.

Yelp
It does not bring me joy to write this negative review, but management needs to be aware. We had not been there for several months due to deterioration of food. But, we decided to go after church due to the fact that you do not have too many choices on Sunday. It was my husbands birthday and we wanted to see if there has been any improvement! We walked into a disagreement with staff over a customer receiving the wrong dish, which he ate. I ordered a Thai tea as soon as server brought it to me I noticed the color was strange. I tasted it and it was soy sauce and milk! I was shocked! We ordered the Edamami and they were soft, mushy and tasted old. We also ordered the Miso soup, it is always lukewarm! Not hot like I prefer. I forget the roll we shared since it did not impress, but it did not taste fresh. We left so fast I did n't even check if they charged me for the Thai tea. There has not been any improvements, in fact it has gotten worse.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Sushi was good, only tried a basic roll. However, we ordered 2 dishes from the traditional Chinese menu, broccoli beef and sesame chicken. Both meats were inedible. They both had a very chewy, rubbery texture. When we complained, we were offered a very small discount. We will not return. Very nice place, disappointing food.

Scott A.

Yelp
The onion & mushroom soup, sushi and spring rolls were great. The steak and chicken were ok but not great. Lacked the flavor of some of the better hibachi restaurants in town. The service isn't great and it took forever for some of the entrees we ordered.

Katie A.

Yelp
This is a very sweet restaurant! Food was phenomenal and amazing service to go with it! Highly recommend!

Marie M.

Yelp
The pork Gyoza was amazing!! Will order every time I go. I wasn't super impressed with the egg rolls but they weren't bad. Our whole group enjoyed the San Angelo roll and the cowboys roll. The sashimi is good. We can't wait to go back and try more.
