Echo Park’s Newest Opening Is an Izakaya Straight From Osaka | Eater LA

"I learned that Masa Ramen, a family-owned restaurant in the Santa Clarita Valley, was burglarized in the past week: burglars shattered glass and stole cash registers and envelopes of cash, and business owners and employees discovered the damage when they arrived for work on the morning of Wednesday, May 10; it's not yet clear whether this incident is connected to several other recent burglaries along Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia." - Virali Dave

The food was decent. It wasn't the best it wasn't the worst. But the attitude definitely left something to be desired. I was trying to get my order straight and I was definitely getting sarcasm and condescension in return.

Liam M.

Google
I love ramen, and this place made some of the best ramen I've ever had. The prices were a bit high for my liking, but the quality made up for it. Everything was delicious. My only "complaint" is that it got crowded fast, which is really just a sign of how good this place is. Next time I'm in Santa Clarita and craving some Ramen, stopping by here.

Google
I thought the shoyu ramen was good for portion size and the chicken katsu was somewhat authentic. Nothing seemed of about the restaurant. I get that some reviews mention their demeanor, however in their defense, I will say that they aren’t fully fluent in English(in the sense that their accent isn’t American) so it may seem like that. But anyway you gotta love a mom and pop restaurant.

Google
Love the cold noodles during the summer and early fall. Delicious 😋. Great family owned restaurant. The food is great in person and for take out. The ramen is equally delicious. Everyone should try this place.

Google
I recently had lunch at Masa Ramen and enjoyed it! The easiest way to order is over the phone or in person (I haven't found their website nor did see them on Doordash/Grubhub). It took them only about 5 minutes to make my order and it was very well-packed. I tried both the Shoyu and Mabo ramen, and both were delicious. The Shoyu broth was rich and flavorful, and the Mabo had a nice kick of spice. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the toppings were fresh and plentiful. I also loved the fun One Piece decorations on the walls! It was a great touch for any anime fan.

jessica K.

Google
I like this place. This is the most delicious Japanese ramen restaurant in this town. But when I visited this time, the soup became lighter and the toppings decreased significantly. And the red pickles in Japan cost 50 cents. But it was so good.

Marie R.

Google
For $15 there was barely any vegetables and sub par flavor. Barely any green onions and corn. The chicken was bland. This was my second time giving it another try. Staff was short and there was no one there to be short and rushed.

Google
I was craving some good authentic food where I did not have to drive out of SCV and wanted to support a mom and pop store. I ordered their beef bowl and cold tofu appetizer and I loved it. The beef gyudon tasted like what I had in Japan. Restaurant is quite small with no restrooms, but food is drlicious. Please support them as they are going through rough times. They had to stop DoorDash because it was taking 40% of the cost and then they had a break in 😡.

Yelp
Brad, the waiter/host/provider, was a hoot and hit for this place! We were openly greeted with a warm welcome from Brad and gave us his favorites on the menu and how the chef makes all the ingredients for the ramen and broth. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, spicy edamame, and egg rolls for lunch. Broth is flavorful and has a smooth taste that warms up the body. The spicy edamame definitely was a kicker with the spicy garlic. Took a bit to numb the spice but it was great to start the food adventure. The place was filled with one piece homage and the walls had many one piece calendars. Nice homey down to earth ramen joint. Come check it out

Yelp
We don't get here as often as I like but I am happy to say the food is still delicious! Call and order and it's ready by the time I get there I was happy to see new menu items
google avatar

Yelp
They have parking in front of restaurant and they are open for lunch and dinner. While restaurant is clean box and some items stacked in dinning area. Floor and tables are clean. Menu are a laminated placemat that have seen better days. I had the Mabo Ramen which has a good flavor but is also somewhat salty. Good portion size and good service. Warning no public restroom. Now the major plus Fresh Noodles good broths 3 types of noodles. Very friendly service

Yelp
I cannot believe I forgot to leave a review. We came on Nov 4 around lunchtime for a party of 4. It was me my husband and my two girlfriends. Brad helped us and he was AWESOME. Brad idk if you remember me but we talked about Mortal Kombat! So sad that we live in the Bay Area because I really feel like we all would've been friends. The food here is amazing. The service is great. Everything is clean and organized. One of my friends is vegetarian, and Brad was so attentive to her dietary needs. The pricing is fair as well. I 100% would literally come back here next time I'm driving through to go to LA. Thanks Brad!!!!

Yelp
Very good Ramen. Also, the staff and service there is awesome.!!! and the ambience is pretty dope too!!!

Yelp
The rational options in ramen and the appetizers are goodbut my favorite are the cold noodles they have in the hot time of year (late March through September). They are delicious . Family owned business.

Yelp
Our daughter had her wisdom teeth pulled and she's really wanted ramen. This place was recommended by multiple people. We had the shoyu ramen (added tofu for our daughter) and tonkotsu shoyu ramen and my husband had Katsura chicken sandwich. It was all so delicious! We will be going back!

Yelp
We found this restaurant after we moved to SCV and it's our fav place to go especially not that we're expecting. The ramen is very rich and delicious, as well as their curry katsu. The staff are very friendly and nice and always willing to recommend and encourage new foods which is appreciate. The ambiance feels very homey and calm, the restaurant might be small but it's always clean, has fast service. We always leave happy and full.

Tess S.

Yelp
Delicious ramen and katsu curry! The owner was very nice and friendly, and the ambiance is very casual and fun with a lot of awesome One Piece calendars decorating the wall! Looking forward to going back

Yelp
As a Japanese-American who has lived in Japan and frequent Japan to visit family, I can FINALLY say I found a ramen-ya san (ramen restaurant) in LA area that I actually love and TASTES JUST LIKE JAPAN. THE RAMEN: From upon the ramen being put in front of me, I immediately smell the broth and KNEW, this is it!! Tasting it confirmed what I smelt. Noodles, are actual legit ramen noodles. Not cheap cup noodle noodles that some ramen restaurants try to pass for (yet some customers still think it's good-clearly not actual ramen folk who know better). The meat/tonkatsu, was DELICIOUS and pan cooked before added to the bowl just the way I like. QUALITY. TASTE. TEXTURES. BROTH. NOODLES. even the added egg, chopped veggies, EVERYTHING WAS AUTHENTIC AND DELICIOUS. They are Japanese staffed and so was able to order my food in Japanese which was nice as well. THE RESTAURANT: Is small and quaint. If going during lunch hour or during cold winter season, expect a wait BUT IT'S WORTH IT. THE STAFF: Work very hard, friendly, and know what they're doing. Again, give them some grace when it's busy--know ahead of time. I promise you the ramen is worth it still. Lots of folks order ahead for pick up too so this is an alternative if you choose. I am coming back!

Yelp
As others have mentioned, brought my family to eat. We've been here multiple times since we don't live far. This time, we were asked if we could leave our travel stroller in the car due to space but the other multiple times we've dined here, we were able to simply pull a chair out and park the stroller in its place. However, what stood out the most was what looked like the son who came up aggressively to let me know that they are a small restaurant and that I need to understand that. It is unfortunate that this is the way they like to treat local business.

Yelp
My first time coming here was with coworkers over a year ago.... Tasteful ramen! Then I started bringing my family, and we stop by every now and then when I bring up ramen for dinner/lunch... Masa Ramen has become my go to place & at this point I don't plan on venturing else where in SCV for ramen. The service is always great and the owners (I'm guessing) are always pleasant and genuine as well. My family is a fan of One Piece so we enjoy the pictures they have around the shop. My go to ramen is the chipotle ramen, my kids tend to go for the masa, shoyu, or chipotle ramen as well. My partner's go to is the curry ramen and the spicy mabo ramen. Appetizers that are our go to are the gyoza, chicken karaage and the chicken fried rice. The food is ALWAYS DELICIOUS!!Just had to say put that in here.

Yelp
I came in on a Wednesday around noon and it was packed. This was my first time here and I ate at the bar. I got the spicy mabo ramen and it was delicious. It's crazy to eat hot noodles on a hot day but it hit the spot and I was not disappointed. I will be back if I'm in the area and will try out another ramen bowl for fun.

Yelp
If you've read the reviews on Yelp, service attitude seems to be a problem. Our server did seem a little unwelcoming, but he did allow me to use the bathroom despite being told one wasn't available (California law substantiates this, I checked.) But we came for food, not service style. The four of us all felt our meals were outstanding. The edamame, vegetable Gyoza, and vegetable ramen were all outstanding. Gyoza and edamame were perfectly prepared. My three friends had non-vegetarian dishes, including two rice bowls and they loved it. Food is excellent, the service attitude could use adjustment. Come for the quality of food. Thumbs up.

Freddy F.

Yelp
Prices, service, and food were all around amazing! They even had a cool vibe going on, and the server and cook were so nice. The definitely earned a 5 star

Yelp
Ramen, ramen ~ I like ramen in winter, make me feel much warmer~ it's a small but highly recommended place. I still remember my first ramen here was 8 years ago~ once I travel to the town, I always take ramen during weekend. It makes me wake up as coffee does~

Yelp
Mapo Tofu Ramen is sweet and sour in the right ways ; the staff is super friendly and helpful

Yelp
My favorite place for their magical fried rice!! I've been coming here for YEARS and they never disappoint! I live in the SFV but I drive up to Santa Clarita just for Masa Ramens perfect fried rice, no place makes it as good as this place and i'm a huge fried rice fan. I went in yesterday to treat myself & sat in a smaller table. I don't usually dine in when I get food here but yesterday I did notice there is no restroom (good thing i didn't have to go lol but I did want to wash my hands). I ordered fried rice with teriyaki chicken on top, it was amazing as always. 1 & honestly ONLY complaint I actually have is that this place is closed on Sundays AND Tuesdays.. like WHY??? But thank you for making such delicious savoring fried rice!

Dominique I.

Yelp
Cozy little ramen spot. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen with no corn and it was delicious. Ramen spots always taste different to me so I was a little nervous but it was delicious. The meat was cooked well and the broth was very flavorful (I added some siracha). My friend got the Spicy Niku Miso Ramen and she said it's the best she's ever had. The service was quick and they were friendly! Definitely recommend.

Eduardo S.

Yelp
Wow place was such good vibes, good and speedy food too. Staff was super friendly and its honestly the perfect place after a long day to talk and enjoy some good well priced food.

Erick A.

Yelp
Love there spicy ramen here! So far this is the place where i get my ramen from. They have a cool one piece wall. The spicy niku miso ramen is my favorite. Then i always go for a bento box for my kids they absolutely love it and the flavors of this ramen is the best I've had compared to other places. I never had a bad experience with them i always see them working hard in the back. They are always attentive if you need any water or anything else.

Yelp
Delicious and Spicy! I ordered the Spicy Mabo Ramen and the Pork Dumplings. They said spicy & delivered. Very good spice to savory ratio! Silky tofu cubes, ground beef and lovely ramen in a hearty broth. I really enjoyed gnoshing this dish. It was a large portion and I ate half one day and half the next. The Pork Dumplings were standard. There is very much limited seating inside. Service was fine. I'll be back for the Spicy Mabo Ramen, in specific. But To-go.

C C.

Yelp
Food was extremely delicious ! We came with our baby, and we had never been out to eat with him before. The lady helped us set him on the little chair, very sweet of her because it wasn't necessary for her to help us. I ordered the Spicy Niku Miso Ramen, it comes with a lot of veggies (yum) and beef. It was very good, I enjoyed every bite, sip and slurp lol. I had also ordered a diet soda, and then she informed us that for $2 more on top of the price of the ramen we could get a drink and a small bowl. Our total came out to about $40 after taxes. We thought it was a great deal! We hope to go again soon. Just a little heads up, it is rather small inside. But it was still comfortable!

Fiona C.

Yelp
I just came in for some Ramen. I am immediately told to have a seat at a small table (which ofc makes sense for one person, but allow people to have common sense first). Menu is dirty, and I am told that there won't be egg on the Ramen, because...egg prices....?? So I'll be paying $16 for a bowl of Ramen, but half an egg is too much? I walked out.
google avatar

Kevin Z.

Yelp
Popped in here after our Spartan race. Small little place hidden in the strip mall. Small place that has about 8 tables. Half of the place was filled when we arrived. Small menu. Quick service. Even bonus deals! Food was good and plentiful. I appreciate our server explained how hot really was for one of their dishes. Happy bellies after a long race. We left with smiles and full bellies.
google avatar

Kristy K.

Yelp
This was so delicious! I'd definitely come back for their ramen. The service was great and we left fully satisfied.
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend, as soon as I and my wife walked in I was met with dirty looks from the staff and they seemed like they didn't want us eating there because of our appearance or race not sure. But I just got a soda and left and as they were not welcoming at all. Way better places elsewhere anyways.

Redubbed Y.

Yelp
Always friendly and always good. Variety of dishes. The ramen is amazing. They package it well if you get takeout. Great ramen spot.
google avatar

Ko T.

Yelp
First time here and loving the restaurant already. My wife and I dined in for lunch while our daughter is at school. We both want to come back again to try other dishes. We are glad to find this establishment. We see a lot of to-go orders so we would try that next time. I highly recommend their fried rice. It was delicious.
google avatar

George K.

Yelp
The spicy ramen was great - it was really spicy but had such good flavor! Also had the side of tofu it was good.
google avatar

Pam M.

Yelp
Felt a little humiliated when I placed my order, paid and then got told to go wait in my car in 95 degree weather. I asked the lady why and she told me because we're small and not room for people to stand and wait. I turned and looked behind me and there were only two customers with seating for at least 12 people. I will not go back.
google avatar

Carol M.

Yelp
I just love this little family owned and operated ramen shop. They're from Osaka and the food is very authentic and good quality! They make their own broth by cooking for hours.. the old school way. Tonight's take out was their pork fried rice. A simple dish but with a depth of flavor you don't find just anywhere. Very uniquely Japanese in flavor.. it never disappoints. I almost always get the ramen, but I opted for a bento box with pork katsu. Crispy (even after the car ride home), served with steamed rice, a cabbage salad and choice of either the takoyaki (octopus balls) or egg roll. Everything hit the spot! Please patronize this gem.. your tastebuds will thank you and you will be helping a small, family owned business during the tough COVID times.

Yelp
TERRIBLE, really TERRIBLE experience!!! (Both food and service) That cold afternoon, after we're done with some errands, we were really craving for pho. But we noticed this ramen restaurant close by with no customers. Out of pity, thinking we could help out this business if we go there and dine in - income and customers for them, we had ramen instead. REVIEWS: Very unwelcoming staff Very poor quality of food - oh my ramen is so savorless!!! Worst service from start to finish Very rude staff - staff attitude at it's finest Totally a ZERO rating (if only possible!) how i wish I can give this rating to Masa Ramen!!! Reading other comments makes me think if this restaurant even bothers to change their way of service since a lot already has the same experience as we had!!! It's just so bad!! No wonder they don't have customers and yet they treat customers so awfully!! Such a pity! The management should pay attention to this! WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN!!
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
I often come here for a quick lunch during my lunch break. It's a nice and intimate ramen shop that never fails to provide me what I'm looking for, quick service and good food. I always get the chicken karaage with my ramen which gives me something else to munch on with my ramen. The workers are always nice as well.

Olivia F.

Yelp
Every city I go to I try a ramen place, and when a new one pops up in town I try it and at this point... no ramen I've tried in LA county has satisfied me more than Masa's vegetarian ramen. Don't get me wrong I've had good ramen lots of places, but truly nothing compares for me . Makes me see hearts

Liza F.

Yelp
I have been going to this restaurant for a long time. The taste of the ramen remained delicious. Today, I went there for lunch and ordered the Tankutsu ramen. I noticed the change of the chashu pork toppings which is now very thin like bacon. Other ramen places give 2 thicker pieces. I am just disappointed.
google avatar

Russell M.

Yelp
The food here is very well done and tastes great. I've been to all the Ramen places in Santa Clarita, and I would say Masa is the best in terms of taste and quality. The servers seem like they are there for the service, not the money, and the restaurant itself is nice and cozy
google avatar

Richard V.

Yelp
Very good food, very friendly and you get your food fast! Definitely recommend. Their spicy ramen and fried rice is my go to
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
You "Masa" have some authentic island dishes. Brings me back to my uncles in North Shore. Oxtail soup is a must. Get extra dipping sauce. Chicken Katsu is tender and crispy. Their katsu sauce is delicious, you're going to spread it all over. The curry is amazing with authentic Japanese's flair. Never disappointing service and nothing much island love. Mahalo to Jackie and Clyde for bringing the island to Berkeley.
google avatar

Renie T.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant I've been going here 3-4 years, I love the food here. My favorites are the tonkatsu pork ramen and the mabo tofu ramen. The service here is excellent. The employees here are extremely kind and they serve your food promptly. The ambience is great and I think subtle because everything is calm and serene. Everybody is nice and polite. All in all I love Masa ramen. And I think you will love it too.
google avatar

Yelp
Went with my kids to enjoy some soup on this gloomy weather. Right from us walking in this guy comes out asking if for here or to go. When I said for here he points at the table saying we could sit there. His demeanor was aggressive and not friendly or welcoming at all. With so many options, I choose to spend my money at a restaurant where I could enjoy both quality and good customer service. I walked up to the guy and said here are your menus we are leaving because we didn't like your customer service. I got an: excuse me?... I hope for the young guy to learn to improve his customer service from this experience. I'm sure they are busy but with so many options, customer services should not be compromised. My family and I ended up having a lovely soup at a Japanese restaurant on the same plaza
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food Amazing service! Nice little find while killing an hour. Food came out quick! Soup was amazing and the gyoza's were perfect!

Yelp
First time visit and ordered take out. Was craving ramen and this place was close by so figured I'd try it. Was very happy with my ramen. Was delicious and only $11. Not bad for a good sized ramen. My only critique would be the egg. It was hard boiled (over cooked a bit) and not the traditional soft boiled egg. Would definitely come again.
google avatar

Greg Y.

Yelp
The family and I LOVE Masa Ramen. By far the most authentic Japanese style ramen in SCV. The Spicy Miso ramen was exactly as described on the heat scale (7/10). Just enough spice to give me red cheeks and a light sweat on the forehead. If you enjoy spice but want to avoid mouth on fire type spice then i would recommend it. My wife had the Curry ramen, and kids had the Shoyu ramen. Each has great flavor and decent portions for the pricing. The lunch special combo is the way to go. For $2.00 more you can add on a side dish (which offers about 4 choices) and a canned drink.
google avatar

Anthony P.

Yelp
The Ramen they have here is absolutely fantastic. My kids really love the Shoyu Ramen. It is flavorful and delicious.

Cooper A.

Yelp
came here in desperate need of grub with the bruzz after a long day at magic mountain, needless to say i was absolutely blown off my flippen seat after tasting the most delicious ramen WITH their house sauce warning, sauce is not for unseasoned dingdongs who can't handle some REAL spice (approximately 70,000 Scoville) seen some punks talking about the service being "bad" well i'm here to say shut the **** up because it was amazing and our server was honestly such a bro and the nice lady at the counter made sure our waters were full TO THE MAX so that we stayed HYDRATED at all times (other restaurants don't care how hydrated you are) and would absolutely come back any day of the week if we didn't live an hour and a half away. after eating here, if i had only one wish, it would be for zeus to smite all of the bad reviewers where they stand. i would like them all eliminated. 10/10 very delicious
google avatar

Paul K.

Yelp
This place could have been 4 stars at best, but it doesn't deserve it! First, we set down to eat and they told us to go to a smaller table when there were only 2 customer in the restaurant, wow, really? Also, they don't even have bathroom for customers when it's by law to have bathroom running a restaurant. Anyway, this place sucks and I'm japanese korean.
google avatar

Matthew R.

Yelp
Got an amazing take out dinner from Masa Ramen last night: karaage (Japanese fried chicken), hiyashichuka (cold ramen with toppings), cold dipping noodles (sooooo refreshing on a hot day!), and katsu curry (breaded pork cutlet with curry and rice)... Yummy! Owners are always so friendly as well!
