Masa is my third favorite sushi restaurant in the Triangle behind Akami and Ajisai. Being third may not sound as good as being first, but don't let that scare you off, this place is really good. And it's a much better value than the other two!
I can only review based on sushi because that's all I've gone here for. I forgot they have ramen until I decided to write this review. I usually hit up Noodle Boulevard for ramen but I think I'm gonna have to come here specifically just to try the ramen.
This is tucked into a shopping center in Cary/Apex that has a ton of parking. It can get quite busy here during the Friday-Saturday rush so I recommend going any other time than that. I can't comment on lunch because it's too far from me to get there but I've heard it's pretty busy but not impossible.
I really love the decor, it's modern Japanese-American fusion. Tables are nice and new and most importantly clean. Nigiri and sashimi are decently sized and all of the fish tastes fresh and isn't warm. The rolls I think are the stars here...they have quite a few but be bold and step away from just your basic tuna and salmon or dragon rolls and go for one of the special rolls. The Lobster roll is one of my favorites, $20, tempura lobster, mango, asparagus, lettuce, avocado wrapped in pink soy paper, mango sauce, sumiso, eel sauce, red and yuzu tobiko.
The Amazon is another good one, $16: salmon, apple, spicy tuna, tempura fish, avocado wrapped in green soy paper, eel sauce, spicy aioli, honey wasabi, furikake. It's a bit different and I love the honey wasabi.
My absolute favorite that I get every time is the Baby Tako Salad $11 marinated baby octopus with sweet chili sauce. The baby octopus is just so tender and the marinade makes them less chewy.
Service is great and what you'd expect out of a nicer sushi restaurant. Definitely worth a try!
