"When it’s time for a break from Cajun cuisine, this place has fantastic and authentic Indian food in an upscale atmosphere. Open since 2006, the food at Masala Indian Kitchen is primarily North Indian with fantastic biryani, hakka noodles, and goat curry." - Anne Roderique-Jones

It was my first time here. I came here for a birthday party. I never knew that they could reserve a venue in the building for party events. The food was mouth watering. The Chicken 65 was delicious. The spices and flavors exceeded my expectations. I tried a few other items on the menu like Vandaloo and Goat Korma, since it was an open menu. I loved the drinks. The drinks were slightly strong with fresh flavors. I will come here again and not just to party!

Google
The restaurant charges customers 4% for using credit cards without prior notice! This has been my to to go place for Indian food for over 15 years, even during COVID. This receipt was my last time we had dinner there, I was surprised afterwards seeing the extra 4% charge for using credit card.

I've ate at 2 Indian restaurants in Baton Rouge and Masala Indian Kitchen. This is by far the best Indian meal I've had in Louisiana. Little on the pricy side but the amount of food you get make the pricing understandable.

Went as a team dinner and worth it. Very attentive staff. Food was good and served quickly and efficiently. Wide variety of options with your choice of spice levels. This place had the North Indian delicacies and the vegetarian dishes are worth trying. The drink options were very good as well.

This is in my opinion the best Indian restaurant in the town. The staff is really good and the owner - Mr. Gupta is so friendly and warm person. He ensures quality service. He visits each table and greets everyone. What an awesome person he is. The food here is excellent. I've been here 4 times and being a vegetarian, I get a lot of options. All dishes served are very tasty and they serve Indian beers too. Nice ambiance and great portions too. This is my go to restaurant when I'm in town.

We went for my birthday lunch and it was very good. The food was delicious, I had the goat curry and I wanted it spicy, it was delicious, my daughter's shared the tandoori plater it was also delicious. The creme Brule and the cake were also delicious. The best part of our meal was our waiter he was very friendly and helpful and kept our drinks full. I love that you can order your food for your own spice level. I'll definitely be back.

Google
Pleasantly surprised to find a small gem of Indian restaurant. The food is not too spicy and if folks need it to be spicy they need to mention that. The place has a good selection of food and decent wine and liquor selection. They have some good cocktails as well.

Absolutely fantastic! My husband and I are in town from Houston and stopped in for lunch Dec, 31, 2024. I had the curry lamb. It was Devine. The depth of flavor in the curry sauce was excellent, the lamb was moist and tender. My husband had the butter chicken it was also amazing. Generous portions served with basmati rice. The garlic Naan was the perfect compliment to our meals and paired well with the mint chutney. Our server, Priscilla, was fantastic. Very personable and attentive to our needs. The owner came by our table twice to ensure everything was to our liking. If you haven't been you're missing out!

Yelp
Every time we dine here, the experience just reinforces that this is the absolute BEST. Before retiring, we'd spent decades in big cities & had many Indian immigrant friends & business associates, so are familiar. The foods at Masala are just like the Indian home cooking we've enjoyed at Friends' homes. Remember to specify the degrees of spiciness for each dish. My favs are Shrimp Masala, gobi, & the soups. Don't miss this wonderful place. Rick

Yelp
Masala has been around forever, likely because it offers consistently good Indian food. The portions are generous and well executed. The staff is always friendly and helpful, although timing of the meal varies. During our last visit, the wait between appetizers and main courses was longer than it should have been. We usually see the owner checking in with guests and you can tell many are regulars that he knows by name. The aesthetic is clean and modern with elegant Indian elements.

Yelp
Masala is a great place for Indian food in Lafayette. I was in town for work and my brother recommended we try this place. His kids don't eat Indian food (that is poor parenting right there) so he rarely gets to eat here. It was very good. The service was excellent. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable and offered several recommendations. The owner worked the room and checked on us several times. You could tell that he is passionate about his restaurant and appreciated us as customers. I opted for the mixed grill and would strongly encourage you to do the same. It was a bit of everything cooked tandoori style. The stars of the dish were the lamb and shrimp but everything was great. The flavors of Indian food can be so complex and difficult to describe for me. The short version is that everything was rich with a super deep flavor that is really unique. Don't be scared if you have never eaten this style of cuisine before. It is truly delicious. If you are looking for a unique place to dine in Lafayette, make sure to add Masala to your list.

Yelp
I order from here all the time because of the quality of the food. I ate inside for the first time and it was just as lovely - nice romantic vibe with low lights and not loud or bustling. Server checked on us in a timely manner. I've never had a bad thing to say about Masala!

Raven D.

Yelp
I got a to-go order of paneer tikka masala, butter naan and the asked for an appetizer recommendation and chose the tikki chaat. So delicious and flavorful. Will be coming back soon!

Jarrod S.

Yelp
Enjoy Indian food and travel for work so always a solo diner. Dining room had a romantic feel and was super quiet. Usually I go for the bar atmosphere but wanted some good grub. Started with the chicken 65 and garlic naan. Would have like the chicken crispier but the naan was delicious. The chicken Vindaloo was tasty and had just the right amount of heat. Only had water to drink but they had huge drink selection and offered dessert. Would come again!

Tamara M.

Yelp
The food is amazing!!! You will have a "party in your mouth" for those who dare to try the fabulous food Allie was our menu specialist and she was able to answer all of our questions and took our preferences and requests to give us the best food experience!!!! Indian food can be intimidating if you are unfamiliar with the ingredients Most think "it must be too hot" (when in fact , the spices are incredibly tasty and give the dishes wonderful depth and flavor) Without hesitation I encourage everyone to try Indian food at least once in your culinary experience Go to Masala Indian Kitchen on Kaliste Saloom You will not be sorry!!!! The ambiance is amazing and adds to the delightful experience

Amy W.

Yelp
This place deserves 5 stars. the atmosphere is so relaxing and dimly lit, spacious too but the seating is intimately done, and the FOOD -- cant get enough. Be wary of the spice though! Definitely go for something mild before exploring your hotter options. Also, the service is a 10/10, the servers are well informed and attentive. EVERYTHING here is immaculate, so food wise: the bread with both sauces offered is amazing, the butter chicken, curry, or tikka masala, amazing.

Ronald L.

Yelp
This place here had great food. I like the fact that you lower the spice level for newbies like me. Had the Butter chicken and a chicken appetizer also. Both cooked fresh and really packed full of flavor.

Barbara R.

Yelp
We ordered the Chicken Bryani & Samosas Tikka. Both were absolutely delicious. The chicken was very tender and the samosas were stuffed with delicious vegetable and potato. The sauce is accompanying all also perfect ....highly recommend.

Rachel W.

Yelp
So good. Went in for solo lunch. Ambiance was nice, food was delicious. Butter chicken didn't disappoint

Andrew K.

Yelp
Masala is a favorite for Indian food that I've visited plenty of times. Great food, great portions, great variety and great flavors. I've had different dishes from butter chicken to lamb rogan josh and chicken tikka. It never disappoints. On my most recent visit, our server was very helpful in answering questions we had about the menu items. Our appetizer was a kind of "dip" made with samosas with chips for dipping, and it was great. My entree was the chicken tikka. The owner stopped by a few times to see how we liked the food and if we needed anything, which was nice. I've had great dine-in and pick up experiences here each time!

Natasha D.

Yelp
Great food! I absolutely enjoyed this restaurant. I was in The area for a funeral. The food was absolutely delicious and our waitress was awesome.

Connie J.

Yelp
Great food nice and spicy, excellent service, very clean restaurant. Dining here is a real treat.

Mark B.

Yelp
Okay. If you order Indian Hot be prepared for real heat. Not "I kind of like hot food", not "I order my wings Hot at a local wing place". This food was HOT as in I have not drank milk in 20 years and that is all I can think about. But the food is also very tasty, somehow. We did the Chicken 65 to start, Baingan Bhartha and the Vindaloo. We are not local, but I would stop here when passing through. Naan was okay. Service was friendly.

Dextria S.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful customer service, and a great ambiance. This restaurant is great for date night or a small family gathering.

LeAnna D.

Yelp
Food was amazing! I had the chicken jalfrezzi and my husband had the chili chicken. Surprising amount of food and so very tasty. They also have a pastry chef in the kitchen. That pretty much makes dessert inevitable. I have an egg allergy so I opted for one of the traditional Indian desserts and my husband had a Bailey's cheesecake. He actually stopped eating his meal to have dessert and was very pleased with the choice. The owner came to speak with us a few times. Both he and our server were very friendly and welcoming. Very nice place. Oh, and don't forget the garlic naan!

Emmanuel A.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing got the butter chicken and garlic Naan. The butter chicken had the perfect spicy level to it. My waitress Allie was amazing! I'll definitely will be back again.

Debra E.

Yelp
Food was so salty you couldn't eat it. This was the second time this happened. Done with this place!

Mister T.

Yelp
This was our second time to visit and the food was excellent again. My wife had the chicken korma and I had the butter chicken and naan. We will be back!

Amanda W.

Yelp
Great food and service. Kenny went above and beyond. Definitely we will be coming here again next time we visit Lafayette! Thank you Masla!!

Khantisha G.

Yelp
The butter chicken was delicious!! The waitress was so attentive and the restaurant is beautiful!

James M.

Yelp
Visited this spot last week and really pondered on if I'd even leave a review but here I am... The waitress was friendly but past that, the food was subpar. I had the Dahl soup, the actual lentils were missing and the soup had more of a "chili" taste. The Malai Kofta tasted like nacho cheese dip. I had to send it back. The Mango Lassi was really tart, heavy yogurt but the mango was missing. It was also colder than a banker's heart in the place. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Gerald H.

Yelp
Went for a quick lunch, service was a little slow at first when getting seated, however was spacious with nice ambiance. Waiter was good, and I liked the chai tea. The appetizer was ok the meat could have been better but the three chip was a nice flavorful surprise. The chicken tikka was good, nice flavor with sauce, rice underwhelmed a bit but was picked up by the sauce. The tandoori chicken looked great but was missing flavor. Garlic naan lacked garlic flavor and was just ok. Nicely presented, if they up the flavor profile this would be a place to return to.

Cajun K.

Yelp
Masala is a staple for Indian cuisine in Lafayette. Located on Kaliste Saloom (not far from Costco), this gem of a restaurant is serving up tasty food and plenty of it. The garlic naan is excellent. My go-to favorites are the butter chicken and chicken Tiki Masala. They offer vegetarian options as well.. they are just as good, if not better, than their non-vegetarian dishes. Seating is comfortable. Low lit, great service, owner is super nice. I highly recommend this establishment.

Kiley W.

Yelp
Always a favorite when in town. I crave this when I am not. My favorite is the chicken tikka masala. Not spicy but full of flavor. And you will definitely fill up. The naan is great too. Then ambiance is really cool and could be great for friends or a date. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable.

Brooklyn S.

Yelp
When I say I could literally eat here everyday, I really could. This was were I first was properly introduced to Indian cuisine, and I can't go back! Love it!

Josy R.

Yelp
Came here for the second time and we were completely ignored by all the waiters and owner. Parties that arrived before us were getting waited on before us. We, weren't even greeted or anything. Disappointed in the horrible service because the food is really good. I will be taking my money somewhere else.

Liz Y.

Yelp
Doc is superb and so is his food! Love that place snd we had no idea what to order! He helped us!

Angie T.

Yelp
Masala is one of those places that was "on my list". I had to have it, even more so since I found out it is the only Indian restaurant in Lafayette. What?! In a town full of restaurants I expect many (or at least a few) Indian options. I drove past it so many times and lusted after what I knew would be heaven inside those doors. My daughter and I happened to be off around the same time for lunch one day recently and since she is my favorite lunch date I called and asked (begged) her to come with me. She is somewhat of an adventurous eater finally now after much prodding from me...this is the child who would not eat boiled crawfish early in life "because ewww, it has eyes!"...so she agreed. Our waiter was patient with my date and suggested a bento type box for her so she could sample a little of everything. I ordered my usual Chicken Tikka Masala. I tasted a little bit of what was on her plate and it was all perfect. Like really perfect. The Chicken Tikka Masala was just what I'd expect and more. Their balsamic rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly and the Chai crème brulee dessert had us fighting over the last bite. Five stars all the way!

Lady S.

Yelp
The food is delicious and the service is excellent! I love the 9 Jewels dish especially!! Highly recommended!

Madonna H.

Yelp
I love trying different foods, however I didn't enjoy the food. The customer service was horrible. The waiter seemed very impatient and wasn't very friendly. It was my first time trying Indian food, so I was excited and believed I was getting authentic Indian food. The butter chicken was gross, had a weird smell, the chicken tasted processed, and the sauce was a light pink. It had no taste and looked like a slop soup. The garlic naan taste like garlic bread. The vegetable samosas were the only thing I enjoyed. The Mango Lassi tasted like hot mango yogurt mixed with sour cream. I give this place a 0/10 and wouldn't recommend because it's not authentic Indian food, lack good customer service, and might just need better cooks. :)

Claire C.

Yelp
First time I came here and the service was friendly and attentive. The appetizer came first and in just the perfect amount of timing the main course came after (honey chicken and forgot the other one). Had to save some belly space for desert and that was delish! I recommend 100%. Rice pudding was interesting but would def rather get the vanilla bean Brulé.

John S.

Yelp
Masala looks great on the outside. It is a nice big building that looks clean and elegant and service staff are friendly. However, at the end of the day, when you go to eat at a restaurant, the thing you care most about is the food, and it is unfortunately very lacking here. Food: Ordered their chicken tikka masala. Came in a bright orange plastic-appearing sauce with a few chunks of dry chicken breast and a small pile of rice. I had to order a piece of naan to go with it on the side, since the dish doesn't come with it. I was apprehensive upon seeing the off-color of the sauce. Despite the awful appearance, somehow the taste was even more disappointing. It was simply... bland. As if there were no spices or seasoning at all. There was no crushed onion, tomato, or herbs in the sauce. No complexity to the sauce at all. Just a liquidy, bright orange, flavorless sauce coating a few chunks of dry chicken. If you mixed together heavy cream and ketchup with nothing else, the result would likely be very similar to what I tasted here. Service: Waiters were kind and service was reasonably quick. Ambiance: Decor and atmosphere were excellent, which is the only thing keeping the restaurant above 1 star. Overall: Would not recommend. They fall flat on what matters the most in a restaurant - the food.

Amy N.

Yelp
They're open for lunch! Ordered the butter naan and raita dip and butter chicken (mild). 10 out of 10 through and through. The range of fresh tastes from each dish was both unique and delightful. My recommendation for "beginners" items are to order these. The bread pudding was lovely and not too sweet. Portions are great. Two orders of Naan, the small portion of raita dip, one order of butter chicken and one bread pudding fed three adults to satisfaction.

Maria J.

Yelp
Came here for lunch with my team during a work trip. It was the only Indian restaurant I knew of in Lafayette. I ordered the lunch special "thali" with chili chicken, dal, mattar (pea) paneer, rice, naan, and pakora. The pakora was acceptable. The chili chicken was made well although I did need some extra spicy sauce on the side to add more flavor. Dal was also ok. None of the stuff was special or great and the flavors were very Americanized. Three things upset me very much: 1) The mattar paneer just looked days old and tasted really off. The texture and everything about it was just off. 2) The "thali" was served in a bento box style which baffled me because trying to eat Indian food in a bento box just didn't feel right and it was hard and uncomfortable. 3) when a co-worker and I asked for our own spicy sauce each the waitress refused and said "one will be enough" and walked away It was very rude and unnecessary. And we had to skimp together on the sauce and we were quite far apart as it was a group of 6. The three issues just kinda made me get a weird vibe from this place. If this was Houston, I'd give it 1 star. But since it was Lafayette I'll give it 2 because honestly I didnt expect that much from it as it doesn't have much to compare and compete against and well at least it had this option for halal meat.

Mister V.

Yelp
Delicious food and polite staff. Spicy was too hot! Mild was unnoticeable. Appreciate the fast and friendly service

Sandy K.

Yelp
Stopped by this restaurant twice on the way to and from my work trip. Hara Paneer Tikka...was decent. But the onions and bell pepper were not cooked in Tandoor along egg Paneer. Malai Kofta...there was some ingredient which was too strong, hence horrible tasting dish. Waitress was considerate enough to replace it with different dish. Mattar Paneer ...was OK. Just about eatable. Veg Hakka noodles... Dish was decent...more like Masala noodles. It was NOT hakka noodles. Nowhere close. Somehow doesn't feel like it caters to Indian taste. More like an Americanized version. Also pricey. Will not return.

Sam M.

Yelp
Excellent food.. The owner/host is very friendly. He made extra efforts to make us feel at home. His recommended dishes especially the baingan bharta were so good it made us craving for more. I will definitely return to this place whenever I'm in town.

Jessica R.

Yelp
WOW! This was my first experience with Indian food and it was a great experience. The Naan bread is OUTSTANDING! Definitely must try when in Lafayette.

Marie P.

Yelp
So I got the Chicken Tikki Masala and Garlic Naan and they were both great. The Naan was light and fluffy and just the right amount of crispy. I have never had Indian food before this and to say the least it was interesting. I was trying to decide between this Tikki and the butter chicken and was told that the butter chicken is more tomato tasting and had dark meat chicken and the Tikki has white meat chicken for those who would like to know. The sever was super sweet and gave great recommendations. As far as the actual Tikki masala it was really rich and creamy and kind of sweet. It was ordered as mild and I got some extra chili sauce on the side. Before the chili sauce it was kind of giving me like a pizza sauce or pasta sauce, very tomato tasting, BUT I added the extra chili sauce and wow it was very good. I'm not sure how close this would be to authentic Indian food but still very good. The place is a little pricey and I think I'd come more often if the prices were a little more reasonable and I was unaware there was a 4% credit card charge, customer mistake. I also saw online that they had a lunch menu, they no longer serve a lunch menu.

Jay C.

Yelp
Second time eating here. First time I came at lunch and wasn't very impressed with the food. It was just so-so. Decided to give it a second try at dinner time and it was way better. I had the butter chicken and butter naan. Yum!

LeLe M.

Yelp
Excellent food and service!! Delicious every time!! Great atmosphere and people!! Would highly recommend!

Adrienne D.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere here was great. We tried the samosas, garlic naan, lamb curry, and tandoori mix grill. We loved every single food item. The dining room is beautifully decorated. I love how the lights are dim, and they have string lights. I definitely recommend everyone come here and try the food out. So delicious.

Hamza B.

Yelp
Just love it and always order from here the perfect Indian cuisine recommend anyone to go here for the taste of the Indian culture and there food definitely going again.

Kimber D.

Yelp
I ordered to go and it wasn't wrong this time. I give stars back. But the hurt still remains. But I'll keep giving yall tries. Because the other places don't do it for me.

Michael H.

Yelp
I used to love this place, but the past few times I've had it were a little underwhelming. Not sure what happened. The Korma used to be my favorite, but they seem to change the recipe around every now and again. No flavor even with medium heat. I hope it was just a fluke.

Ali E.

Yelp
I've been on an Indian food kick for the past couple of months and Masala does not disappoint! I love the chicken Korma or the biryani. I also get hot, as their medium is not spicy enough for me. Do not go anywhere else for Indian food in Lafayette! Great place to sit, listen to Indian music, have a glass of wine and enjoy lunch or dinner.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
I know my Indian food. I lived in England for many years. Anyone familiar with england knows the level of authentic Indian food available in the there. Best indian food in Lafayette.
