The food was also delicious 🤩 If you’re not used to spicy foods I would recommend the mild option and also grab a cold drink from their refrigerator! 😆 The menu is ALL vegetarian. I have visited Masala Kitchen for the last 10 years and will continue to visit. My husband and I have tasted every item on the menu. It’s an all vegetarian restaurant with a soulful atmosphere. We started off enjoying their delicious vadapavs and Bombay street food 9 years ago. Lately we look forward to their thalis on weekends. The chefs in the kitchen whom I consider as mothers of India prepare delicious food from scratch with lots of love. Their Punjabi Thali, Gujarathi Thali, Kathiawadi thali and sarson ka saag with makki ki roti are our most favorites. Every time we come we drag our friends and family with us and they have all loved it. I would recommend this place for their amazing flavorful food made with heart and soul.

A great little hidden gem in the farmers market in new castle. The food served here really is authentic and gives that Greta taste of back home. The staff are super friendly and the service is amazing. Definitely check them out this place when you’re roaming the market for a quick bit!

Food amazing we had Kathi Roll, pav Bhaji, grilled Bombay sandwich and masala dosa all great home style food made with love and all home ingredients. Service by the owner on point will be back it's in the farmers market and open Thursday to Sunday must try this a 100% Vegetarian Sorry no pictures of food we were so hungry but next time

This place is a hidden gem inside farmers market. Amazing food & beautiful decor. We ordered veg sandwich, vada pav, dosa & sugarcane juice. Food was outstanding...took us back to Aamchi Mumbai. Jalebi made from jaggery was so crispy & sweet. Excellent service. Highly recommend this place.

I sampled their offerings from a food truck at a festival. Truly delicious! The Deconstructed Samosas are so good. The spice is really excellent, with fresh herbs on tops. Just right. The Falafel Sandwich is also excellent and very filling. I didn't sample the pizza but it looked beautiful and the owners were eating pieces for their own lunch! Nice people.

Yelp led me here based on great ratings, and the experience was great enough such that I won't deviate from the great ratings it's received from other reviewers. Masala Kitchen is by no means fine dining, but rather a more fast casual Indian vegetarian street food type experience where food is cooked to order fresh. It's located inside the farmers market building which I wasn't aware of until I arrived. The service (5/5) from the guy taking food orders and delivering food to the tables was super friendly and pleasant, especially for a place which doesn't have formal waiter service. He definitely took pride in running the business and making sure customers were happy, which is a vibe I don't often get from Indian eateries. We ordered the chole bhature, a kati roll, & masala dosa. The chole bhature (3.5/5) was a little watery and wasn't the best of preparations I've had, but it was decent and came with 2 great big pieces of the bhature/bread. The Kati roll (4.5/5) came cut up into 4 pieces and was incredibly flavorful with the paneer and fillings, but some people dining with me found it too spicy while others raved about it and felt it was perfect. The masala dosa (4/5) was a decent portion for sharing and tasted good, but nothing to rival places which specialize in dosas. They have several Indian dessert options...we tried some jalebi (4.5/5) which was a perfect way to end the meal. The prices were very reasonable and food tasty, so rounding up to 5 stars given it's an informal street food type place with friendly ownership aimed at pleasing all dining guests. Others may be disappointed if expecting a more formal restaurant experience (which this place isn't trying to be).

Found this place randomly on google as we were passing through the area and decided to give it a shot. It did not disappoint at all. I got the dabeli and hariyali paneer and both were amazing. The dabeli had so much flavor and perfect amount of spice. The paneer was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The menu was filled with all different Indian street foods. I wish I could've tried them all. Service was very friendly as well. If I'm ever in the area again, I definitely will be back.

Couldn't find the location at first. Called and they explained they are INSIDE the Farmers Market. Let me tell you, I was highly surprised how underrated this place looks. We opted for the 2 curry of the day dish and the deconstructed Aloo Tikki and goodness me. We loved it! I'm from the UK and eat Indian food very regularly and this definitely lived up to some of the best I've had! Very reasonably priced and if we lived near, we'd absolutely be back!

Drove about 30 mins from west Philly to New castle farmers market to buy some fresh fish and got hungry after all the walking. Walked by this Indian restaurant and did not bother going inside as it looked empty and dumpy from the outside. Checked out the reviews on my trusty yelp and it had a pretty good rating, so decided to give it a try. I ordered the Dabeli and deconstructed aloo tikki. One bite of that aloo tikki, Bam, I was teleported straight back to my favorite chat place in India. Boy was I so wrong about the looks of the restaurant. Flavors were bold and packed a punch. Medium spicy level was perfect for me. Both the dishes were outstanding. Easily the best chat I had in the USA. Then ordered falooda, which was just okay. Super excited to have found this place, I cannot wait for the next weekend to go there and try other chat offerings.

Pro: Seriously great Indian food! I admit that I'm a bit leery of any vegetarian cuisine; the idea of a meal without any animal flesh usually makes me sad. However, Masala Kitchen has made me reconsider my carnivorous culinary strategy! The mixed pakora (vegetables battered, served with tamarind and cilantro chutney) were about as tasty as an appetizer can get! Their crunchy texture mixed with flavorful dipping sauces were worth the visit alone. Also, the pair of samosa (potatoes, peas and spices filled in a triangular pastry served with tamarind and cilantro chutney) followed along the same suit of great flavors, but with a flakier crust. The spicy sauce (available upon request) only made these delights better... Con: It's a slight shame that such great food is housed inside of a congested indoor market. I would pay double the money for this level of food in a place of swankier ambiance...and still feel like I'm ripping them off! Also, the falafel was just okay. Given how great the other dishes were, the aforementioned fell short a bit... Bottom Line: Masala Kitchen is a very inexpensive option for great vegetarian cuisine. If you're in the New Castle Farmers Market, try them out!

We stumbled on this place when we where driving back to NJ from DC. Truly a whole in the wall place and the food was absolutely delicious. Next time we pass by it is a must stop place for us. Excellent food and service.

This is an amazing little place located inside of the New Castle Farmers market. After walking the whole circle around the market and finally locating the store, i would like to help fellow yelpers by informing them to enter at the entrance #4 to reach this joint. We entered from entrance #6 but went left towards the other side instead of taking right towards the shop! To tell you frankly, we were hungry already and the detour did not help, lol! So we ordered dahi puri, papri chaat, mix fresh lime soda, uttapam, vada pav, pav bhaji and usal pav. The dahi puris were pretty delicious for Delaware standards! I have had some incredible chaat in Dallas, NJ, NY and the bay area but had no expectations to find this yummy chat here in Delaware.. oh I am so happy they opened shop! The papri chaat was also very delicious, made with good amount of papri, chutneys and onions. They did not skimp on the ingredients and the dish was the best i have had in US! Many places mess up papri chaat by pouring too much yogurt or too much chutneys, but they did no such thing. The usal pav was very spicy, but i loved it. The uttapam was also well made and filling. The mix fresh lime soda was made well and delicious. The vada pav was also very delicious, with the right amount of spices. Pav bhaji was not too great but just decent - more like a 3/5 dish. We also had a pista kulfi - which was okay... nothing exclusive. Will definitely repeat and try other items.

First time I went there, amazing authentic quality food.... This time though the experience was exactly opposite.... The service gets slower each time I visit The food quality dropped considerably... The Usal and Ragda were just plain bland with no garnishing at all (those dishes always come garnished) The sugarcane juice was 90%water and 10% juice if any.... I was highly let down and had to review it....

What can i say ... nothing is edible , i just trashed 40$ food i ordered . Stale , unhygienic. Seems like all are rigged ratings . The place itself is in a filthy location

They are located inside farmers market and initially we thought they won't impress us too much but I was wrong .. I have not reviewed a 5 star so easily .. But this one deserved every bit of it .. What amazzzzing food yummylicious took us back home .. specially the vada's (mumbai style ) lovely cholle bhature .. dabeli, (no pics we were so busy finishing it ) .. Thank you masala kitchen .. keep up the yummy work..

By looking at the rating here, I had high expectations from this place but if you go by the reviews, I would say it's way over rated. Not that the food is bad, but it's just ordinary taste and nothing special given 4.5 rating. The restaurant is inside farmer's market so it was little hard to find but I called them up. The whole area had a very unpleasant meat smell. There are just few tables and chairs lying around which to me doesn't matter as long as food is good. But coming to food, Dabeli was okay but overpowered by chutney taste, probably because it had so much chutney that the whole bottom part of pav became totally damp. Aloo tikki chat (deconstructed aloo tikki) had chole with chutney and sev on top and tikki was lost somewhere so you would have to find it but the overall taste isn't bad, it's just that I've had way better ones. Chole bhatura was the least tasty out of all three with undercooked bhatura and bland chole. The chole they gave with aloo tikki had better taste as it had chutney and sev mixed. Mango lassi was one thing which I liked but that's one thing which has such less chances of going wrong. I would probably not be visiting here again.

I love Indian food and was pleasantly surprised with this location I stumbled on in Delaware. The samosas were phenomenal and spices perfect. I could eat fast enough.

Ok..I ate my food before I could take a picture of it. I had to laugh because the thought really did escape me. No exaggeration. I'm new at this. Forgive me. Masala Kitchen is hands down one of my all time favorite places for authentic, Indian street/vendor food and snacks. Some quality can't-put-the-fork-or-food-down-between-bites type of food. For those who like to skim, the food is superb, staff is friendly and the place is only open on the weekend. I frequent just about every weekend and at $3 - $8 per food item (with most being $5) you're getting a clichéd big bang for your buck (I'd pay more for sure). Yes, the place sits in the New Castle Farmers market. That said, while many frequent the market for their staple stores - the BBQ ribs, fresh produce, Amish meat and food stations, seafood or that grill where I see everyone walk away eating monster sausage with giant fried onions hanging out the side of the bun (I digress), I lean towards the almost hidden, all vegetarian Indian food take out/dine in restaurant. You could miss this place is you walked fast enough, which is almost impossible to do at the farmers market. The decor is mixed with mainly heavy square wooden tables and what I would consider traditional hand crafted India-inspired, wooden backed chairs. There's a subtle splash of modern in the lit food wall display and you're also almost guaranteed a Bollywood style movie to keep you entertained while you wait...and wait you will, so hang tight and be patient while your masterpiece is crafted in the back. I prefer it this way - made just for me. When I'm in a hurry I call the order in while in route and it's hot and ready when I arrive (suggested). The vada pav is a must try here. A perfect ball of potato spicy goodness in a warm, soft, fluffy bun. On this visit, I had the deconstructed aloo tikki. Deconstructed? YESS!! Who does that to Indian food in Delaware?! I also ordered a mango lassi, and a few pretzel shaped jalebi (Indian funnel cake). And a pair of samosa. And walked away with only handing a lonely $13 for huge bag of food. Spices in the deconstructed aloo tikki were on point, showcasing the hot and sweet chutney mixed throughout. The jalebi was so sweet and the mango lassi, while I hear is an acquired taste for some, was just as good, if not better than a mango smoothie. I bit off the top of one of my samosa but that is a guaranteed treat for me to enjoy later in the evening. If you're in the area and in the mood for a true taste of Indian "nummy nummy street food" and an insane tastegasam, stop by and try a few items. Almost forgot to mention they are opening a new location in Newark, DE. Grand opening is April 11th. You're welcome in advance...

Very disappointed with the food yesterday. The puri in alu puri was stale and really difficult to eat. We ordered masala fries and in the meantime they had a bunch of online orders. They made us wait for masala fries for 25 mins (probably forgot about the masala fries) and started making it when we reminded them. Then, they served plain fries and when asked if this was masala fries they said it was definitely masala fries. I had spoken to the lady before ordering and had asked her for the description of what it was but when they served it; there was no masala and no cilantro but still charged us $5.75 for plain fries. Definitely not worth the trip for us anymore. Plenty of new places coming up.

This Indian restaurant is inside the New Castle Farmers Market and since the market is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, those are the only days this restaurant is open too. Unlike most other Indian restaurants I've been to, Masala Kitchen is a very simple, unpretentious restaurant. You grab a menu and order at the register. I noticed that the food was vegetarian, which may be a plus to some. I had the 7-Item Thali, which is a combination platter with 3 curries, salad, rice, flat bread, and something else I couldn't figure out. It was quite flavorful and spicy but not really the burning kind of spicy. I suspect it's Northern Indian. The only thing they may need to improve on is the rice. I noticed bits of rice that had dried out and hardened in the rice cooker. Menu prices were very reasonable, compared to most Indian restaurants. In summary, for decent, inexpensive and unpretentious Indian food, this place is worth a visit.

Their vegetable pakoras blend all too well when I mix them with the curries that I cook. I am also looking forward to trying their samosas, and falafel. It is also nice that they offer vegan versions for a good number of their dishes. If they could transition from being vegetarian to fully vegan then I would be even more generous with my tips.

This was a pleasant food experience. I love it's vegetarian but enjoyed the grandmother the most of all. She had a great personality and suggested some good food items. Will definitely come back.

I've eaten her many times and have always had a pleasant experience! The food is 100% vegetarian and 100% amazing! The staff have an accent but speak clear enough to order and are always in a cheerful mood. If you stop in you have to try the falafel it's amazing!

Looking for chicken tikka masala? You won't find chicken or tikka masala here. Instead you'll find delicious, authentic, spicy vegetarian South Indian street food. This ain't salad: it's hearty fare that sticks to your ribs like pav bhaji (soft bread rolls with spicy veg curry), idli sambhar (lentil/rice dumplings with vegetable stew) and my favorite, chaat (think Indian nachos). There's even a pretty decent felafel pita. It's all tasty and authentic--the sort of stuff my family eats! Try it out if it's new, or if you've had South Indian food before, come get the real thing! Be advised--even the "mild" dishes are pretty spicy, so prepare yourself.

Delicious home-cooked tasting Indian food! The samosa chaat (aka "deconstructed samosa") was quite saucy and delicious. We also got the thali, which was the perfect blend of veggies, lentils, rice, and delicately thin roti. The mango lassi hit the spot as well. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We love all the vegetarian and vegan options. It's awesome that such a nice place is located in the flea market! We will be back the next time our travels bring us through New Castle.

I have tried several dishes on the menu and have loved whatever I picked every single time. However my favorite has to be the falafel, mix pakora, or vada pav. The cilantro chutney is also another favorite! It goes well with everything, I even looked up a recipe on pinterest but obviously it wouldn't come close to being as good as theirs. Overall my review might be bias due to my everlasting love for indian food but if you visit you will not be disappointed by the variety of tasty food they have to offer. Sometimes it takes a bit longer than you would hope for but definitely worth the wait. I go at least once a week and will continue to do so!

This is the place for authentic Indian street food. I've been here multiple times ordering different things ranging from bhel puri, pav bhaji, vada pav, deconstructed samosa and aloo tikki, dabeli, kulfi and more. Everything was made exceptionally well. I regret not having found this place sooner.

I don't get Indian restaurants in the US. They Americanize Indian food too much. We ordered a thali, dhokla, jalebi and dabeli at masala kitchen. Thali was a little above average. Chole were very good, paneer was average. Dhokla and dabeli were not authentic at all. The place is good if you're really craving some Indian food at an affordable price.

Delicious food, gracious host, good value. Try the sandwiches if you are looking for Indian-American fusion. They are subtle, but delicious. Did I mention it was delicious?

Am very particular about chaats. I tried this place for the first time and it turned out to be really good considering the fact that there is nothing else around. But the papdi chaat and dahi aloo puri are above average.

Excellent vada pav! This is good old Bombay street food, the Indian counterpart of a veggie burger. The most authentic vada pav I have tasted in USA. Had a chance to converse with the owner, they import their spices, and source other ingredients from India too. Try the Gujarati 'roti' typically called 'rotli'. Very soft, fresh and made just like homemade food. We also ate samosa, quite good; but I happen to have tasted the rare better version, hence the 4 stars. The place can be a bit difficult to locate, but call them and they can give you directions. Food is decently priced; remember you are there for food, not ambience.. Enjoy!

I like everything about this place but the food. Owner is nice and polite, menu has quite a few options but the taste of their food is something which doesn't appeal to me. I have tried alot of their food every time I thought of giving it another chance but I sadly to have say that I did not find anything tasty.

Don't know if it's coz I'm eating Chat after so long, or coz its the only good chat place in Delaware. But its awesome, will definitely revisit this place! Plus there are other options to ear around here to!

Nestled in a small farmers market sits this Indian restaurant .food is made with fresh ingredients and very delicious ..we had the best vada Pav, misal, Pav Bhajee..With traditional Indian fare, a very affordable food..highly recommended

Don't judge a book by its cover. This food is authentic and fresh! I had the deconstructed samosas #16, my husband had #18, we shared the two veggie wraps and mango lassi. The service was very helpful in aiding our decisions to mix the flavors. You know it's good Indian food when the majority of clients are Indian :) I am stuffed but don't feel guilty since it was vegetables

On a rainy and cold saturday night, my wife and I didnt feel like cooking so we opted to eat out. While browsing through local restaurants, we came across this vegetarian Indian restaurant. It was also located on a familiar place where we do our shopping for fresh vegetables inside New Castle Farmers Market. Upon entering the restaurant, we saw one employee sitting in the back. We picked up a menu and proceeded to sit down. Not sure how they conduct customer service, but it was quite non existent. Puzzled by the fact that the employee didnt move from his seat in the back, we went to the empty register to order. Only then did he decide to get up. We ordered samosa, vegetable puff and two entrees along with mango juice and mango lasse. He gave us a number and told us the kitchen would call our number when ready. After several minutes, the kitchen called our number, but it was only for our vegetable puff. I proceeded to get up myself and grab the tray. Several minutes later, the samosas were done. Again, I got up to get a tray from the kitchen. At this moment, I realized the gentleman wasn't there to serve us. He never even told us where to get our drinks. I found our mango drinks in the fridge and got them myself. Next, one of our entrees was called up. Again, I went to the kitchen to retrieve it. At this time, it was getting "busier." By that, I mean three additional tables. We were the first ones there around 630pm. As our final entree got called, the gentleman finally brings us our food. I guess one out of four trays isn't bad...Food tasted quite good, but service is basically nonexistent. Not sure if that's the intention of the restaurant. Just feels weird placing an order and going to the kitchen window myself to retrieve my order.

If you are vegetarian or vegan, you know how hard it is to find a good fast food place to chow down! I usual go to the New Castle Farmers Market for the fruit stores, and Amish section. I've walked past this restaurant many times, always in a rush. Finally after reading a few reviews, I made time to stop in. They have actual plates sat out with food on them so you can see what the dish will look like, as well as picture menus. If you are new to Indian food, you can get a sense of what you are getting. The food didn't take too long to come out. Everything was delicious! My husband and I had some nice spicy dishes, while my son enjoyed his basmati rice. My phone died so I didn't get to take many pictures. There are many tables to sit at and enjoy your meal. My experience was pleasant.
