17 Excellent Halal Restaurants in Austin

"This casual fusion Indian-American-Chinese Texas restaurant chain with the North Austin location has it all. From chaat to tikka pizza, curries, kung pao chicken, fried rice, noodles, to chicken 65. The dishes are bold because the kitchen doesn’t hold back on the masala. Pickup orders can be placed online and there’s a Tech Ridge location too. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services." - Sana Khan

My family has fallen in love with this place! The food was so flavorful and fulfilling! Samia was so amazing!! She made our 1st time visit even better! Can’t wait to visit again! It was also very clean, friendly and welcoming!

Google
Masala Wok (Arbor Walk location) is such a wonderful fast casual Asian and Indian restaurant. The people are so nice and if you become a regular, like me, they'll remember your name, favorite dishes and will chat with you as much or as little as you like. The butter chicken is my favorite, but my Indian friends lean towards the Chicken 65. Also, don't sleep on the Hakka Noodles. That's been my go-to lately. It's tough for me to pick between them. I also really enjoy their samosas. The chutney is sweet, sour and savory. Overall, just a quaint little chain with really good food at a very good price with great service (for a counter-serve establishment).

Google
Good Indian fusion food. My favorite is chicken 65. Hakka noodles is very gingery. Fried rice with tofu is good.

Google
I love this place! One of my favs. The samosas are the best and my favorite item to order, also the sesame chicken and veggie spring rolls 😋 service is great!

Google
Bad taste and flavor. Thai fried rice have curry leaves haha. What a joke . Gobi Manchurian is tangy and soggy . Taste bad

Google
The cashier, Jenny, was especially nice & friendly and in helping me decipher the menu for it being my first visit here. Cool place and restrooms were very clean too. Very good Methi Malai if in a rush too.

Google
I had a really disappointing experience at Masala Wok. My family and I arrived at 8:15 PM, well before their posted 9:00 PM closing time, but were told we only had 15 minutes until they closed and were completely denied service. It was frustrating and unprofessional—if the kitchen stops taking orders early, that should be clearly stated somewhere. We weren’t trying to come in at the last minute, and being turned away like that made it feel like they just didn’t care about customer service. Definitely won’t be coming back.

Shium Rahman

Google
We went in for dinner because they have halal meat. We ordered the Thai dynamite with chicken, Hakka noodles with chicken and vegetables rolls. Both of those dishes were below par. The strong garlic smell was too much for us to handle and we couldn't finish our food. The rolls were oily. They had fast service and the atmosphere is good too, I was hoping for better tasting food.

Yelp
June 18, 2025 review: ---- Ofcourse, this is my favorite Indian fusion place in Austin. Nothing can match their wrap or fried rice. This time, instead of my regular tofu shezwan rice, I tried paneer 65 wrap while my husband got the tandoori wrap. They were both full with lots of paneer and similar taste but would say that paneer 65 was little bit more tangy in taste. So I liked that one slightly over tandoori. I like how they have changed the salad portion - which now comes in a side togo bowl instead of small cup, back in 2019. My only feedback to restaurant would be to use the paper based bowl instead of plastic for salad as well. I also like the tikla masala sauce that comes with wrap. Price is $13 for each wrap and quantity is pretty good for one person. We got our food in around 10 mins, it was Wednesday so not a lot of folks but just some to-go orders.

Yelp
had to throw away all of it. we're very familiar with indian cuisine, and spicy foods. this place is a joke. the food was ABSOLUTELY INEDIBLE. this place must get quite a giggle out of torturing folks that pay good money. fyi: they gave 3 choices regarding spice level: house spicy xerox spicy here's a clue, don't eat here unless you enjoy having your gums, tongue, and lips throb. i'm so disgusted
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is AMAZING!! Today I tried the "spicy pepper with chicken" (spicy level) and it was everything I needed!!! I'm so happy with this choice, I usually stick with the chicken 65 and other bowls but this is my new favorite!!

Yelp
My first experience was through lunch drop at work. I realized it's too far from my house so for the past 3 weeks I have been driving into Austin for the Sichuan veggie-tofu fried rice (extra tofu). I like spicy so the heat was perfect and the tofu was fried to perfection. The service was quick and has been consistent. The portions are huge so one order of fried rice could feed 2-3 people (I usually eat mine for a couple days. The ambiance is typical restaurant take out in a shopping center, not too fancy but clean and organized. They do have tap to pay and good drink fountain options. I should probably give it a rest but it's so addicting!

Yelp
I pass this place all the time when I'm shopping at Arbor Walk and we finally popped in. Service was fast and friendly, food was very tasty, menu had a lot of options, and it's super affordable. What more do you need? Plenty of parking, inside is clean, great stop for a quick bite. And the portions were huge. One meal was more than plenty for the 2 of us.

Kerra S.

Yelp
Delicious food for a good price! Masala fries were super yummy, slightly sweet which complimented the masala dip. Butter Masala was too die for - creamy and perfectly spiced. Highly recommend for delicious Indian food.
google avatar

Yelp
Great customer service and delicious food Fair price. My favorite is Thai pepper Fry rice l.
google avatar

Scott D.

Yelp
This is my favorite location of this chain. Consistently great service and above average food. They do a particularly good job with their naan. Clean and comfortable, with plenty of parking due to big shopping center location.
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
I ordered this on Doordash. This is easily the worst Indian food I've had in town. It's really hard to make a bad butter masala, but they manage to. Also, it's basically an individual portion with one samosa. I thought it'd be a good deal, but it's really not. $30 for this? Total ripoff.
google avatar

Stefanie D.

Yelp
I ordered takeout from this restaurant, and it was my first experience ordering from here. My normal go to place was closed that day, so I was excited to try somewhere new. I got the. butter chicken meal that came with rice, and a side of naan bread for $16. I also added a side of samosas for $6. The butter chicken was good, but it was definitely not the normal color of butter chicken and while it tasted good, I've definitely had better butter chicken. While it definitely gives you more than one serving, I think that price point is a bit high for the what it is. They do give you naan with it, but it's a single piece, definitely not enough for the meal. So if a normal butter chicken meal costs around $14, usually you can add a side of plain naan for $2-3, but you get about double the naan. The samosas were a good size. THey had a alot of filling and the sauce was good, but hey were a touch greasy. Overall, it was pretty in line with what a expected a chain Indian restaurant to be. I wouldn't turn my nose up at it, but there are other places I do enjoy more for the value.

Yelp
The food was different this time around, just not as flavorful or spicy as it usually is. We asked for the 'hot' level and they let us sample the medium up front and neither level was really spicy at all. We saw some other customers complaining that their food didn't taste the same as the last time they got it when they were asked how their meal was and the manager argued with them and told them not to waste their money ordering things they didn't like despite them mentioning they would always order the same thing. So that was not great to witness. Honestly was willing to give it another shot because we had chalked it up to a bad day but after seeing the manager ridicule and try to shame the other customers, after asking them how the food was, let us know we won't be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
The tiki masala was very good. Good portion for the price, The manager honored my coupon even though the internet had gone out on them that day. Good customer service too.

Yelp
Y'all the Indian food in Austin absolutely SLAYS My friends know all the gems and yesterday while checking out the hot DILF's at Home Depot, my friend recommended a lil place around the corner called @masalawok Good lord. Open that door and you will smell scents from the heavens. We were immediately greeted by lovely people and I had no clue what to get as everything looked sexy. The sweet lady gave me samples, I wish I caught her name. And I ended up getting a yellow curry based dish she recommended. My god. I also tried a thicccc sample of the Tika Masala and I would def roll with that as well. I always go lamb when I have the option but the lady said that the chicken is a must for my dish, I got it HOT and they didn't give me white girl hot. They laid it on me. It was Amazeballs. I cannot recommend the garlic naan enough because it is sooo thin and so flavorful and just perfect. If y'all ever in north austin check this place out right after you check out the DILF's at @homedepot Pro tip: save some for later so after you rampage the bars you can sit that puppy on you belly and enjoy another round. The flavors only get better with time. You won't regret it. Let's give this place some LOVE! Over and out

Yelp
Food was oily and a bit bland. I love their chicken lollipops, but their biryani was bland.

Yelp
The food here was incredible!! It was too good to wait before digging in so the pictures are half eaten. The staff was also incredibly friendly and even though they misheard my order they were more than happy to accomodate me to get that fixed. The ambient was also really nice with good music, cleaniness, and beautifully designed interior. Also there are plugs and wifi so you can study or work there like at a cafe. It's important to note that this is an Indian restaurant, so obviously the other cuisines they sell here aren't as good- that's my take on the bad reviews.
google avatar

Yelp
Masala Wok never misses with their high quality + quantity food. You gotta come try it!

Yelp
This review is unfortunately not about the food, for which we travelled all the way from San Marcos, the moment we (me, my wife and 3 year old son) entered the restaurant we started getting the negative vibes from the lady at the counter... firstly it is important to mention that there was no one else in the restaurant except us, the kid was just playing on the side sofa with his shoes off, she came and told him to move away as she was cleaning there. Then we sat down, it was 8:05pm, she came at 8:09 and said "we are closing in 20 mins, order now". Then we ordered the food, the kid was playing on the same sofa which was far from their kitchen and cash counter, she came again and said "control your kid, he is disturbing the restaurant`s atmosphere" .On this my wife told her that he is just a 3 year old kid who is playing around, to which she said that other kids don`t do this in a very rude tone. We then asked her if then we should leave as we cant do anything about it and she didn`t say anything and kept on cleaning the already clean floor for the 3rd time since we came. After which we got up and told her to cancel the order, which she did immediately and told the kitchen staff which we could hear " I don`t know why they cancelled", obviously the kitchen staff must have been already half way done in preparing our order. We felt insulted and it was like she deliberately created such scenes so we may leave their restaurant. Being south Asians and looking for halal food, we travelled a long way to try food here but were insulted by their racist behavior. By the time we left from there it was already 8:40pm, and most of the restaurants close by 9pm, hence we just hit a restaurant near highway which was about to close and had some food there before leaving for our home.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for a quick bite. I offered her this place close by. We were impressed how clean inside was and how quick service was. Food was delicious and we definitely will be back.

Yelp
This was my second time trying this place; first time dining in, and the food and customer service are great! They have a huge menu of Chinese and Indian dishes-- so far I've tried the Masala Fries, Chicken Pad Thai and the Lamb Biryani. All were good, but the lamb Biryani was the standout dish! Great flavors and the spice was on point. The Masala Fries were just ok-- nicely cooked fries in a masala sauce. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Service good, food wasn't terrible. I would not return though. The women's restroom smelled so foul. I'm talking BAD. Like I couldn't even breathe it was like they had some very serious plumbing issues. It made me not want to eat
google avatar

Anees S.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years, and have been disappointed by the progressively bad customer service experience. The manager here seems to make it seem like she is doing us favors by serving us food. It's disappointing, we have enjoyed the food but the customer service has been sorely lacking. I think this may be the last time here.

Yelp
This is an Austin classic. Has been around for a while, but they need a shout out for keeping it real for all these years!. I really like the hot wok style of food. I know my food got cooked when I see steam rising from it. Food comes in multiple spice levels (which I like). My personal fav is the Goan Vindaloo with Chicken (Original hot). Yummy, fresh food in right proportions served quick. Perfect lunch option. Please come back to Cedar Park. We need you!. (The Indian food scene in Cedar Park is pathetic. Masala Wok will rule!).
google avatar

Shradha A.

Yelp
I miss the Masala Wok pre-pandemic. It sounds like they have a new chef and the food is only half as decent - too oily and heavy.
google avatar

Gurpreet L.

Yelp
I moved out to Austin a few months ago and the first thing I did was the try the Indian food. I picked some upscale restaurant and I was genuinely disappointed at its inauthenticity. For months, I didn't dare order from another Indian place. Until last week that is! I ordered from Masala Wok on a whim and it immediately transported me to my mom's kitchen. It was authentic and exactly what I wanted. I ordered the Malia Kofta and a samosa chat and both were sooooo good! The entrée came with rice and naan which took the meal from good the fantastic. There was enough food for me to ration this into three whole meals! I will not be trying any other places because I've found my go to Indian spot!
google avatar

Yelp
What a breath of fresh air! We came here for the first time after having a terrible experience at CurryUpNow down the street. The atmosphere was welcoming, clean and the staff was cheery. The menu was approachable and affordable. We got an appetizer (masala fries, delish!) two curry bowls w/garlic nan and drinks for just under $40. You can customize the heat level of your dishes for not extra charge. Everything came out quick and hot, the tikka masala paneer was creamy and the perfect heat level. The masala fries were crispy and fresh. The rice was fluffy and beautiful to look at and the nan was perfectly seasoned and crispy and soft in the right places. We had more than enough for leftovers too. We regret not taking photos but we were so hungry lol. We will definitely be back and do recommend.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
This place is pretty good! The food isn't authentic but it's like going to Panda Express instead of an authentic Asian restaurant. The portion, price, and atmosphere is very nice. For $11 you get rice, curry, and a side of naan at a Panda Express style type of place. It's not for me, but it's good for people who don't have a lot of time and prefer a hot lunch over a sandwich. I for the chicken korma and it tasted a bit too sweet for my liking, but I enjoyed my food.
google avatar

Juan T.

Yelp
I order the rice and noodle combination with chicken and I asked it to be very spicy. Honestly it was spicy, but spicy enough to enjoy the food. The chicken was just juicy enough to make me salivate. And the vegetable they use was just great, will I come here again if I pass by? HECK YEAH I WILL
google avatar

Karen Q.

Yelp
Thai and Indian are a few of my favorite cuisines so I was elated at the concept of combining them into one restaurant. It isn't the most authentic food, but I think it is an okay place to pick up a quick 'fast food' meal - it curbs the craving. We ordered the Thai Dynamite, Biryani, and Tandoori Wrap. They were decent sized portions. These were all good, but I'm not sure I would pick these items again given the variety of items on the menu.
google avatar

Rashaka B.

Yelp
Awful service. No matter how the food may taste. I had to wait an hour for food. They kept saying they are working on it. The ticket was never submitted. They think I am sorry is enough. People came in ordered sat down and ate while I was waiting. It was their mistake. They did not expedite the order at all. You should not be in business if you don't try and fix mistakes.

Tiffany O.

Yelp
I've been to other locations and found the food to be fine. It's not good but it's food and some days that is what matters. Yesterday was my first time at this location and I was absolutely shocked by the behavior of the woman behind the counter. The person in front of me was picking up an order and it wasn't ready. It turns the employee hasn't been paying attention to the printer and didn't notice that orders weren't printing out. If you check recent reviews you will see this isn't a unique occurrence. The person waiting complained politely and the employee absolutely went off on him in the most disgusting and dismissive manner possible. He left and I stepped up to pick up an order. The employee had the audacity to continue bitching about the previous person to me and when I said I understood his frustration she got angry with me too. SHE STARTED PRESSING BUTTONS ON MY PHONE WITHOUT PERMISSION which denied me the ability to report her rude behavior. When I asked her not to touch my phone without permission she blew up and yelled at me to never come back. No worries angry lady, there isn't a chance in hell that I will be returning. I can only imagine how awful she is to fellow employees and other people in her life.
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
Got the Pad Thai. It was more of a mixture of a pad thai and general stir-fried noodles. Was it bad? No, it was pretty decent. Would I come here again? Most likely no. But it's definitely a decent place if you want quick Asian/Indian in this area.

Carol N.

Yelp
I've ordered Masala Wok before via Lunchdrop. When I order hot, it's tolerable. I ordered today from this location and it was a bit much for me. I'm not the best at making good choices. This was one of them. Not sure why I didn't just order it regular and I had to order hot. I might be paying the price later. (and I can tolerate spicy food) I was, however, disappointed in the naan. It was very thin and mostly crispy. I prefer naan that's a little thicker and chewier. Overall, the flavor was good. I think the thickness could use a little work.
google avatar

Yelp
Oh how I've missed thee!! After moving to Florida I knew the first meal I wanted was Masala Wok when I touched down in Austin. I love the fact that their Thai Pepper Rice was still green. Houston location changed their recipe a couple of years back. Both city's have added broccoli to their rice dishes - ugh I can do with out. Service was great, fountain drink area and rest rooms were clean. Food came out quick what more could you want. I am a very happy camper.

Yelp
Food is pretty good! Good amount of food that comes with the main entree too. Place is clean and staff is friendly.

Yelp
Second time here and we just loved the chicken masala so much! The hot was definitely nose dripping and eye watery but oh so good! We first came in June and they had dine-in as an option. But now in July it's takeout and curbside pickup only. They do however have an outdoor seating area nearby, I think its actually part of a neighboring restaurant but we sat and ate there anyways. The service here has been amazing and they do wear masks and sanitize. They have sanitizer available. My only complaint was that last month the bathroom looked like it could use some renovations ih n comparison to the dining area, but I didn't remove a star for this because it was still clean. The food comes out hot and fresh and everything was super flavorful! The sodas they offer are delicious and have no artificial ingredients in them! They also use compostable materials which is a huge plus in my book! #gogreen Next time we will give their asian cuisine a try but I'd definitely recommend you try them out!
google avatar

Debopam D.

Yelp
Gulab jamuns we ordered (to-go) were deconstructed badly & had strong garlic smell in it. We were able to spot pieces of green onions in it too. Clear sign of some other food spilling into it. Hard to believe this was an unintentional mistake! Quite careless & bad service to go with very ordinary gulab jamuns! I wouldn't recommend their overcooked hakka noodle either. There are better places to eat in town!

Yelp
My wife and I used to love to come here as a reward after a long Saturday of home improvement projects. The food was always yummy (especially the Chicken 65 and the veggie korma), the portions were ample, and the prices were delicious. Lately, though, the service and the food have gone downhill, and my most recent experience here was downright frustrating. A couple of weeks ago, I placed a to-go order for my family. I ordered Chicken 65 with extra chicken. When I got home, I discovered that what I had received instead was paneer 65. I tried a few bites, but it just wasn't that tasty, and the texture was not what I was craving at all. I called up right away, and they offered to remake my order, but I told them that wouldn't work -- I have a young child at home, and taking the time to run there and back again just wasn't in the cards -- and I asked for a refund for that dish. The person on the phone said he couldn't pull up my online order, but that he would take my contact information and have a manager call me back the next day. My wife told me that I was unlikely to hear back unless I called back and pushed them on it, but I put more trust in people to do the right thing than that. She was right -- I never heard a thing from them. Super disappointing.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite fusion Indian restaurants. The food is Indo-Chinese comfort food. I usually get the Pudina Paneer kabob- a combination of grilled paneer cubes, rice, naan, and a side of curry sauce. I like that this dish is consistently good for a quick weekday lunch. I have also tried the hot and sour soup here, bit it was way too salty and the spices were way off too. The chai here is average. The location is super convenient (North-central Austin) and there is ample parking in the parking lot. The service is fast and the customer service overall is above average. Tip: the place can get really busy from 11.30-1 pm so try getting here right after lunch time.
google avatar

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
The staff was so welcoming and kind! The food was absolutely perfect and just what my friend and I were looking for. The service was super fast and the portions were large and filling. Would recommend to everyone looking for a great, delicious meal!!
google avatar

Vicky L.

Yelp
Food was great but service sucks! There was barely any meat in my order. Only like 9 pieces of lamb. Ordered through Uber eats paid $49.21 for two meals and an order of Samosa. They forgot to pack my Samosa and when I called they said they already packed it. On the receipt they didn't even place a check mark next to it so they obviously forgot. No apology at all. They told me to just drive there. If I could, I wouldn't have spent the extra money to pay Uber eats to deliver! Would not order again.
google avatar

Yelp
We used to go to the Masala Wok at Tech Ridge location, but once I tried out this location, I love this location way more. The staffs are super friendly, always with a smile and I feel very welcome as their customer. One thing I wish they can do is, give the old curry back. When I first tried Masala Wok, it was about 10 years ago. I always loved their lamb curry with a little tomatoes in it. They changed their recipe. I don't even know how long ago, but I do miss the old one. We always order lamb curry and tandoori wrap. We had one minor problem few months ago, I ordered Lamb curry and it came out as chicken curry and I already had a bite. I believe she was the owner, she helped me to change out the order without any problem. That's why we keep coming back to this location.
google avatar

Viviann P.

Yelp
This location's curry is SO GOOD!! My boyfriend and I got 2 and we scarfed them down like it was nothing. The garlic naan was super tasty, and the mango lassi paired very well with our dishes. The lady taking our order was very helpful, cheerful, and overall fun to talk to. The restaurant is clean, organized, and im happy i went there for lunch today!
google avatar

Allie C.

Yelp
What happened to this place?? Their quality and the whole experience of dining in has gone way way down. My chicken tikka Masala hardly had any chicken in it.. and it was super runny.. like it was a soup. Also.. what's with the fancy "silverware" now? Yup. Hope you like eating with flimsy plastic ware that's "compostable". Do you like eating off cardboard? Then this is the experience for you! "Compostable" plates and bowls to go with the plastic utensils. I'm so disappointed.. I mean the naan is the best (even if mine was a little over done this last time).. I hope this place gets it back together.
google avatar

Diya L.

Yelp
Good food/flavor, but whoever said portion size is huge here either came here before they reduced their portion size, or eats about 60% less than me. YOU try to feed my bf on a budget. They now have paper carton trays that are smaller for dine in as well, which means smaller portion size. I liked my vindaloo curry but I think I would prefer a sit-down Indian restaurant at these prices and portion sizes.
google avatar

Jack W.

Yelp
The reviews looked good; so, I gave it a try. I ordered the Chicken Lollipops and was very disappointed. They were over-cooked and had very little meat with a lot of fried fat. Very over priced for what you get for the money. I want try the place again.

Saatvik A.

Yelp
DO NOT ORDER! If you ask for paneer, they have a high chance of giving you chicken! Never ordering from here again.
google avatar

Patriciana H.

Yelp
We've loved going here for years!!! Still love it!!! The customer service is impeccable and they really do get to know you. It's like a small town restaurant feel but in a shopping mall. The food is soooooo good! I can adjust my spice level and they are always soooo good at ala cart ordering.

Gretchen H.

Yelp
I have eaten at this restraunt in Austin (Tech Ridge location) and have found the food to be super good. I keep going back. They have a variety of Asian and Indian food. The staff are friendly and accomotating (Luz and Leslie) are the staff that have worked with me). The restraunt is clean and the food comes out pretty fast. I highly recommend this restraunt! Gretchen

Yelp
Great quick service. Tasty food. Very nice people working here. Really like the selection.
