Masami Japanese Sushi & Cuisine

Delicious and fresh sushi! The menu that is printed is different than what is on the wall, so the menu was a bit confusing for a first timer at the restaurant. It was a nice and casual atmosphere for a date night with my partner.

This restaurant is one of my absolute favorites. In a city full of overpriced one-piece sushi spots in Uptown and countless all-you-can-eat places run by people who’ve never even been to Japan, this place feels like stepping into a real neighborhood sushi bar in Japan — warm, humble, and sincere. The fish is beautifully aged, the balance between rice and seasoning is spot-on, and the prices are very reasonable. If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing the kind of authentic local sushi shop that’s disappearing behind conveyor-belt chains, this is the place to visit. It’s a small reminder of what sushi truly means — simple, honest, and made with heart.

We came at closing time on Saturday, they still sat us. The restaurant was packed, and I can see why. There were 4 chefs and 4 servers. 2 of the chefs were old Japanese men, so I knew the sushi would be legit. Everything was super efficient, and our food came out in a pretty short time. The rolls were good and definitely affordable compared to other places. I'll definitely be coming back. Rank from best to worst. 1. House special #2. This roll was flavorful--not something I expect from a roll, and I love it. 2. Spicy tuna. My go-to for testing out a new sushi place. I typically prefer salmon more than tuna, but this was fresh and well prepared. 3. Salmon. The old faithful. This was comparable to ketsaku. The cut was thick, fresh, and perfect consistency. 4. Yellow tail. I think I maybe Yellow Tail is not for me. 5. Shrimp tempura. Another go-to of mine, but it was too sweet, and there was too much rice.

came here on Super Bowl Sunday! This place was so cute!!!! From the cozy interior decor to the beautiful curated sushi; this place exceeded my expectations. The salmon collar was my favorite with how soft and fatty the meat is. The eggplant was the surprise of the night since I’m not an eggplant eater myself but I tried it & really enjoyed it! Cant wait to go back to try other dishes soon Best causal sushi date night spot!

I randomly found this place on Google while trying to find a good sushi spot close to where I work. Reviews were great and photos looked amazing so I had to stop by. This ended up being some of the best sushi I've ever had with the food being incredibly fresh. I ended up sitting at the sushi bar and service was excellent. I even ended up having a nice conversation with the person next to me and have a few recs for my next visit! Thank you for the delicious food!

Kid friendly: Kid bento available! And include ice cream 🍦 Food is delicious. Server is attentive and friendly. Reservation was booked by Google! The bathroom is clean. Off menu special is available. Price is reasonable. We really enjoyed the Mother’s Day weekend with them.

I waited a long time to review this restaurant. Over the past few years it has proven to be consistently good. Very friendly staff, beautiful clean restaurant, good food.

This was the perfect date-night place for me and my husband and I'm SO glad we found it! It's cozy and the service was top-knotch. We had a young man as our waiter and he was helpful, attentive, professional, and kind. The food was to die for. Seriously some of the best sushi I've ever had. Better than most top-dollar places I've been to. We had the Taiki roll and Rainbow roll and the shrimp tempura as an appetizer. All were delicious and incredibly fresh. The fried ice cream and mango ice cream were fantastic! Looking around, everyone was having the same experience we were. If I could leave 10 stars, I would!

Great place for sushi at a reasonable price! We had dinner for two for around $125 and left very full. They have special items not on the menu on a blackboard. The service was great and it's cute/ simple inside. I really liked that it felt like a hole in the wall/ authentic. They have a wonderful selection of desserts too - I had the black sesame flan! So delicious!

We are thrilled we discovered this little gem. Our server was so sweet, the energy of the place is just super positive and welcoming, and oh my god the food was so good. We got excited and ordered too much--my signature move. But will make delicious leftovers today!! The tuna tower was one of the best I've had and our server kindly offered to mash it all up for us--perfection. Also the gyoza might be the best I've ever had anywhere. It was so damn good! The heart attack roll was probably my favorite roll. The masami roll was delicious and fresh and perfectly light and healthy. We were raving as we left and can't wait to go back.

We eat here every time we come to Dallas. We have eaten here over 5 or 6 times in the past year. This our favorite Japanese restaurant . Our reservation was for 5:30 we got there at 5. We placed our first order at 5:15 and our second order at 5:30. At 6 45 we were told that our sushi order was going to take another 15 to 20 minutes!! Unacceptable !! The service was awful, it was really a shame and they had multiple sushi chefs. Our waitress was terrible. Management needed to step in but no one said anything.

What a cute sushi gem in Richardson. I've driven this place so many times and never knew it even existed... so glad I finally tried it! It is definitely a smaller restaurant... which gives it a more cozy feeling and staff was able to give you more authentic, and attentive service. I love how they offer a private dining area where guests sit on the floor with shoes off! Our favorite dish was the escolar sashimi. It was fresh and the texture was amazing! The hamachi Kama was really good too, and their pricing of the hamachi is better than other sushi places in the area. We will definitely be back and looking forward to trying their other sushi rolls!

Picked up a couple of rolls and some sushi for hors d'oeuvres for a date night with the Hubby. This local sushi restaurant is quaint and adorable! We loved our sushi and it was lovely and FRESH! See you soon Masami!

Not enough praises for this family-owned sushi restaurant. Masami has been around for a while and for those of you who haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. The restaurant is clean and can accommodate for all party sizes. Waiting staff and sushi chefs are all super kind and helpful. The fish is super fresh with generous cuts and the rice for the sushi is well seasoned. The desserts are to die for! If I had recommendations, the matcha cheesecake and tempura ice cream (no picture) are both amazing choices. The tempura ice cream is big enough to be shared by two but if you're a dessert lover, you can do it

Everything was very fresh and good. We tried items up and down the menu and nothing disappointed. Tempura, grilled smelt, salad, sushi (especially the uni and octopus and scallop ...). The service was great too and a very appreciative crowd.

Step on in and have a taste of Japon. It was cute and tasty and really good. Be prepared for a wait. It took a while to get all our order out, but worth the wait. Looking for a good sushi spot near us, so when we came here to Dallas to visit my son we were excited to find a good sushi spot. And we were not disappointed. The fish was fresh. The rolls were expertly hand crafted and the service was attentive, courteous and sweet. I started with some hot saki and a Sapporo. We got spicy edamame which was a little small and could have had more spicy goodness. I also had a dragon roll, heart attack roll, and house special 1. All three were good. Dragon had good avocado amd tempura. The heart attack could have been spicier but was good. And the house special was really good with the wasabi root. If you live close it is a must try.

Greeted by happy people who asked if we wanted a table or sushi bar. Upon being seated immediately noticed that everything was immaculate; no stickiness nor dust. They have a sushi menu, an entree menu and a wall menu featuring specials. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable as well as friendly. I absolutely ordered too much food but that is on me as our waitress tried to guide me but I love leftovers. Everything we ordered was amazing; avocado roll as an example-no brown, no slime and delicious. So very happy; absolutely recommend and will be back. Great value as well!

I loved this place. It's a small,cozy sushi restaurant. My family & I walked in without a reservation & it was just a 10 minute wait on a Sunday night at the bar. It was quite busy but food came out promptly and everything was fresh and tasty.I would definitely come back!

Super great little restaurant! They gave an amuse bouche and a carved orange for dessert which was super thoughtful! Reasonably priced and good service and good food! Got the crunchy salmon roll and the tempura udon. Both were great!

This place is like a little piece of heaven. Outstanding service, homey environment, incredible food quality and super affordable. I can't help but to go weekly because it is simply delicious and addicting.

I've been driving past Masami for years on the way to other restaurants and establishments in the same plaza. Finally got to try it for a friend's birthday dinner and was impressed with the food and the service! My husband and I split a bunch of apps and sushi; I also got a yuzu chuhai, which was delicious, and he got a sake flight that he enjoyed. Our favorites of the night were the nigiri, the karaage, the suno mono, and the chawan mushi. The pork in the ginger pork was pretty tough, and the salmon o-chazuke was rather flavorless. The broth the agedashi tofu came in was delicious, but the fry around the tofu itself was pretty sticky and mushy. The sushi rice flavor was excellent, though also a little mushy, but the fish was super fresh and tasty. We especially loved the suzuki (sea bass) and tamago. Escolar, aji, and scallop were also great. The karaage was fried in a really lovely and light batter, super juicy, and the suno mono was bright and not too sour. There were some mistakes with our order since we got so much (we clarified that we only wanted the ginger pork app but they accidentally tried to give us the full dinner portion, and we never received an eggplant dish we ordered) but the servers were gracious about correcting our bill quickly. If I'm ever in the area again and craving sushi, this is a solid option for reasonable prices.

I've only had tempura but it was really good. Looking forward to sometime in the near future having sushi and told my foodie friend to check it out too.

This was our first time here. The reviews are good, so we thought that we'd try it and take our son and future daughter in law. I was very excited about getting sushi here since it's a bit harder to come by where I live. I think you can call ahead and get reservations for earlier in the evening, but later, it's walk-in only. When you enter, the place is obviously a family style sushi house, but it was incredibly charming and very intimate. I loved it from the get-go. We sat in the back close to the bar, and though we didn't have a front row seat to the show, we had a great side view to the three person team creating the magic. It was great! The wait person was so kind and well mannered with beautiful ettiquite and demeanor. She set us up with water, tea, beer, and hot sake. I was the designated driver, so the tea was mine, but everyone else seemed to enjoy the alcoholic libations. We ordered spicy edemame to start followed by some sushi, nigiri, rolls, and something called a tower...?? The food came to the table as it was prepared, so there was a bit of a wait since the place was packed, but when it arrived, each dish was beautifully crafted with love and intention. All around the table sounds of delight continually erupted at the sights and taste of the feast. We were attended to very well and didn't need, but if we had a desire, it was promptly seen to...(I love extra ginger and Wasabi!) After dinner, we ordered the green tea ice cream and the cheesecake to go. Overall, this was a very pleasant experience, and I'm sad it can't be a regular place for me in the future because it would definitely be my go to sushi house if I lived here. Go here. You won't regret it, I'm certain of that. NOM, NOM!

I've been to Masami a few times for lunch and it is always a pleasant experience. Service is quick and friendly. I really enjoy their lunch specials. Their food is great and their prices are even better. So far, I've had the sushi bento and the chirashi bowl. Both are very good options.

It's embarrassing how long it took me to come here, but I'm glad I did! A cozy, well decorated interior that feels like I'm in Japan, minus the kanji writing. They get busy really quick after 6pm on the weekends so keep that in mind. Although maybe not as booked as sushi sake gets, there's a chance you could walk in and be immediately seated. They have a decent list of affordable sake that you can order for a flight. They also have premium whiskeys, sake and wine available. All of their sushi is fresh and superb. While they do the classics like salmon or unagi, keep your eyes up at the wall for all of their specials. The ankimo, chu-toro, and maiwashi were welcomed additions to my meal. Their soft shell crab was crispy without filling like too much breading. While it wasn't exploding with seafood juice, I could still tell it's fresh with a decent amount of seafood taste. they masterfully cut it up into nice bits, but it still looks like one whole piece one served. The fried eggplant in miso broth was bowl slurping good! The eggplant had a great texture, with the lightly fried outside that was delicate and not too greasy. The miso was flavorful and had just the right amount of salt. I will say this is pretty filling, so keep this in mind. The Masami donuts are just fried bread but I feel it works because the sauces are not cheap or gross. The chocolate sauce tasted like liquid cacao powder. The strawberry sauce was not necessarily puréed strawberries, but it wasn't cheap strawberry syrup either. As simple as it was, the sweeten condensed milk was a nice addition to the dips. The master sushi chef is highly skilled in his craft, but seems humble and approachable to conversation (at 5:30pm at least. I cant attest to how talkative he will be when it's a full house). Overall, I would definitely come back here. With Sushi Rock and Sushi Sake all within 5 minutes of each other, Richardson truly has some gems for Sushi restaurants!

Great sushi at a reasonable price. They get busy for dinner and sometimes won't do take out, but it's just because they're so popular. We love the rainbow roll and the jalapeño roll.

The food and service were outstanding! We had a group of 8 people so we came early (6pm) to get a table; a private tatami room (floor seating) is also available. We had sushi, and a variety of dinners - tonkatsu, teriyaki, tempura, soup, and more. It was all really good. The service was excellent too. And unusual for a Japanese restaurant, they have an extensive dessert menu - don't miss it!

We went here on a spontaneous little dinner date, no reservation needed. It's a casual little hole in the wall with very cute decorations. The service is very nice, polite, and attentive. For dinner, we decided to order a bunch of little appetizers to share and they brought them out a few at a time, so it felt like we were eating a 5 course meal. Everything was hot and fresh, but we felt like some things were a little too salty (the onigiri specifically). All of the food was pretty good, but I don't think there was anything super special. Next time, we probably would order other things to try (they have an extensive menu), because we couldn't order everything we wanted today. This isn't our favorite Japanese restaurant, but it's definitely a good one!

This is by far the best place in Frisco to have sushi. Yellowtail is unbelievable, so is everything else. Enjoy!

Best value Japanese lunch specials in the area! I'm amazed they still have an $8.50 lunch box special that comes with miso soup and a bento box of tempura, chicken terriyaki, 4 spicy tuna rolls, and salad. For a little more, they also have a great sushi / sashimi lunch box special for $13-$15. The grilled fish lunches are also a great value at $9-$11. Service is very friendly, and I can't wait to come back!

This place was just steps from our Airbnb. My husband and I try to have sushi every place we visit and this trip was no different. From the outside I was a little concerned, but I was pleasantly surprised about the interior and ultimately the service. They have a ton of sushi options to choose from and we enjoyed the rolls we chose. Our servers were pleasant and made good suggestions! We would recommend this place if in the area.

This place looks like a hole in the wall but it's definitely a hidden gem. Other than Mr. Max, this is probably one of the best and most authentic Izakayas in town. Food: we tried almost all of their nigiris on the menu and it was surprisingly fresh and tasty! We also tried a variety of other food I.e. salmon collar, chicken yakitori, clam soup (reminded us of Japan) and even had their "ice cream tempura" which I honestly didn't know what to expect, but it was amazing. Service: we went on a Friday night and they were packed, but we still got good service which I appreciate. I believe this place is reservation only so make sure you call in advance as they may not take walk-ins. Atmosphere: the inside is dimly lit and they have the sushi chefs working at the counter. The size of the room isn't that big but we felt cozy. All the decor reminded us of the izakayas we've been to in Japan! Overall 5/5 stars, we'll definitely be back!

I thoroughly enjoyed my first time visit to this cozy little spot. I wanted broccoli added to my vegetable tempura appetizer and the restaurant made it happen. The shrimp tempura udon is a perfect dish for a cool day in northern Texas. I will be making a weekly visit and most definitely introduce friends and family to this place.

Great service and fresh sushi every time. They were accommodating of our large group, and everything tasted great, especially the sweet shrimp, toro, and eggplant appetizer. We got to sit in the Japanese-style large table with cushions and no shoes (quite a nice surprise).

Our favorite local sushi spot! We go at least once a week and the food is always delicious! We have introduced a number of friends to Masami as well. Can't recommend it enough!

Consistently love getting food from here, especially when I need a quick lunch. I always get the tempura zaru soba noodles. The tempura is perfectly light and crispy even when it's to go. Comes with eggplant, shrimp, and sweet potato pieces. The amount of noodles you get is a solid portion for one person (I'm full but not overwhelmed). Dipping sauce is great and perfect amount of flavor in my opinion. It's not watered down or anything! Came here for dinner once too and their dessert is pretty solid. I think we had the black sesame flan and it wasn't too sweet, I'd say the perfect way to end your meal. I'd recommend coming here for sure if you want good food for lunch or dinner. The place is a little small so it's more than likely crowded at peak times.

Someone recommended me this place and I'm glad I tried it! It was a great izakaya! The environment is great, friendly service! Came with a small simple complimentary appetizer. Ordered karaage, ika tempura, asari salamushi, nasu shigiyaki, chawamushi, and sushi moriawase. Ika tempura was way bigger then I was expecting. Really like the asari salamushi here, they added yuzu to it which is refreshing! Everything is great had a great night definitely coming back!

Good sushi. Friendly staff. They have cute cat decor (and I love cats). I like this place and would come back. And I am picky about my sushi.

This place was really cute! I sat at the sushi bar for lunch. I ordered the sushi lunch special. It came with spicy tuna roll and teriyaki chicken as the main parts. The sushi was really good and the only reason it bumped to 4 stars. The teriyaki chicken was tough. I will be back for sushi only!

Service staff were very nice and pleasant. Ambiance was pleasant and cozy. However food was lousy. Rice used for Louisiana roll was warm and soggy. It was also limp. Did not find any crawfish. Chicken teriyaki was tough and dry. Salmon teriyaki was also dry. Only decent item was the tempura.

Masami was a really great way to get back into the dining out scene. The raw fish offered is impeccably fresh and each piece tastes unique to the type of fish. The fatty tuna seriously melts in your mouth, one of my favorite rolls that I tried. The bang for your buck value is strong here. Each sushi piece is quite thick and at least a small pointer finger long! Zinggy, high quality wasabi included with other side dishes, like salad and miso soup for the entree. I left so full! Masami, unfortunately, gets really packed even on a Sunday night. Though a lot of tables get filled, the atmosphere gets really loud and somewhat claustrophobic. The chairs a somewhat uncomfortable, plastic ones. Looks like masami needs to expand, or decrease their chairs and turn away patron, to keep a more pleasurable ambiance. I think I will come a off times from now on. I am so excited to return and try more japanese specialities. Masami keeps the traditions alive!

Always fresh and authentic shasimi and sushi served luke I remember in Tokyo. Best buy is the lunch bento boxes.

sometimes I read just the negative reviews about a resturant and then I see if they are all the same thing, bad service, manager with attitude, food is bad, or other things but if you read the negative reviews from masami, they are not the same and should I say.....kind of nuts or crazy. This resturant is totally 5 yelpy stars. The food, the service and just a wonderful small resturant are all exceptional. Yes the kitchen could be faster but over all not a long wait. The thing I love the best is the well researched gluten free menu.

I've been coming to Masami for the last 10 years and it's been consistently good every time. We've since moved to Houston and the very first thing I want to eat when we come back to Dallas is Masami. This place has unique mellow ambiance and the sushi is top notch. It's also one of most affordable sushi restaurants out there.

Masami is our favorite sushi in Dallas. The quality is excellent, the staff is friendly and attentive, the space is small and can fill up on the weekends. Be sure to call ahead for a reservation.

I was very excited to finally try Masami, which had long been on my bookmarks list. Eric R. surprised me with the offer of sushi on our last night in Dallas, and this happened to be the closest bookmark. When we arrived, we were able to sit at the sushi bar in front of the chef/owner, who is from Nagoya. The patron to my left was a regular since the restaurant had opened almost 13 years ago, and he was kind enough to share some chef specials with me (including spicy grilled yellowtail and sea eel shiso cucumber maki)! I started with an order of aji sushi, which was absolutely delicious and fresh, and Eric R, ordered the rainbow roll, which was unlike any I had ever seen. It was less wide and had beautiful tuna, sea bass, and salmon on top. We then ordered salmon skin handrolls which were prepared with gobo, cucumber, masago, and bonito flakes with a touch of eel sauce. I enjoyed this authentic combination so much, and Eric R. ended up giving me most of his since I was so happy! We also drank copious amounts of hot tea. Our server told Eric R. he by far had the most refills of anyone ever. I ordered the chawanmushi because I rarely find that on any menus in the U.S. and usually make my own. This one was so delicious, with chicken, shrimp, kamaboko, shiitake, and gingko nuts abound. It was also topped with yuzu peel! While I was disappointed there was no uni available, there were plenty of other menu items that looked appealing. We each had a piece of scallop nigiri with masago, and then I ordered battera. The chef told us how special the marinated kelp is on top -he gets a thinly shaved slice of dried kelp from a top producer and marinates it in house. The result was divine, of course! Eric R. then decided to end his meal with a negitoro handroll, but I know his favorite is ikura so I also ordered ikura gunkan and ate one to finish our meal. We had some interesting conversations with the chef and the regular next to me at the bar, and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed. The meal was by no means quick though, as we sat at the bar for almost two hours! Eric R. had emphasized to me that I spend too much when eating sushi, but we only spent under half of this threshold he thought I tend to reach when we are out of town. We left very happy and full, and I have to add that the decor and Japanese touches are very cute, down to the little toilet paper holder I saw in the women's restroom. I would definitely return! Itadakimasu!

This should be easily 4 stars jap restaurants. Authentic and reasonable pricing. It has rich izakaya feel. The sashimi is fresh n nice . Yakitori is a must and grill soba ( mackerel) is juicy and moist.

Such a gem!!! When you first walk in make sure to write your name on the little white board (if there's a wait). Our waitress was so kind and the food was absolutely delicious :) we will be coming back!
