Maset

Maset is a refined yet welcoming addition to Marylebone’s dining scene, offering a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant with a clear French accent, both in its cooking and overall sensibility. We visited for lunch and found it to be a thoroughly polished and enjoyable experience. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels warm and cozy, striking a careful balance between elegance and comfort. The design is understated and tasteful, with natural materials and soft light that create an inviting, relaxed environment — the kind of place that works equally well for a leisurely lunch or a more considered business meeting. Service is a strong point. The team is professional, attentive, and well-paced, managing to be present without ever feeling intrusive. There is a clear sense of confidence and competence in the dining room, which contributes significantly to the overall sense of ease and quality. The food is where Maset truly delivers. The menu is rooted in Mediterranean cooking with a pronounced French touch, favouring seasonal ingredients, clean flavours, and thoughtful execution. Dishes are well-balanced and precise, showing respect for classical techniques while remaining modern and approachable. The kitchen avoids unnecessary complexity, focusing instead on depth of flavour and consistency — a choice that pays off across the menu. A beautiful new addition to Chiltern Street! The interior is simple yet elegant, and I loved sitting outside in the rain, the staff, especially Nina (with support from Nikita), kept checking if I was comfortable which was really thoughtful. I’d suggest adding outdoor heaters, some warm lighting and maybe blankets to make the terrace even better. Nina was fantastic, her passion for the menu really stood out and her recommendations were spot on. The Poulet was my favourite: juicy, delicious and perfectly balanced. The “Il Frizzante” (non-alcoholic) was refreshing and ideal for the weather. The Bouillabaisse Croquettes were nice but a little pricey for just two, and the fries were okay but not memorable. I don’t usually like figs, but I trusted Nina with the dessert and loved it, not too sweet and beautifully paired with cream and a touch of olive oil. Excited to come back and try their brunch menu soon!

Had an absolutely fabulous dinner here last night. Nikita was our server and he was incredible; knowledgeable about the whole menu, made excellent recommendations, and did great with my friend’s allergies. The saffron margarita was out of this world. The Patisse are a must-try, as is the french pesto pasta, but honestly everything we had was phenomenal. The space is beautiful as well. Truly one of the best restaurant experiences in London.

For all the marlebonites and beyond your in for a treat in the form of Maset a new entity on Chiltern Street. A French Mediterranean restaurant soon to have its soft launch this coming Monday. Myself and colleagues were lucky enough to be amongst a choice few invited for dinner and drinks yesterday evening. In fact we have the distinction of being the first clients of this establishment that will absolutely test some of the stalwarts in and around Marlebone for its culinary finesse and vibrant energy. I could rant on about all the dishes we sampled (which by the way were mesmerising), however my top tip would have to be the monk fish! Great attentive staff excellent wines with a decor to match, Maset is going to quickly become part of the Chiltern Street establishment. Welcome to Chiltern Street Maset!

I ate at Maset this evening on a fluke; my fiancé and I were in the area and needed a quick bite to eat. We assumed that a restaurant on Chiltern Street would be a lovely and satiating place for us. How wrong we both were. I’ve been a culture editor for ten years and in that time have eaten at many a beautiful, delicious restaurant. Yet I have never in my life eaten as such a lackadaisical restaurant as Maset. We arrived — greeted by a lovely waitress I will say — and ordered our food. Fifteen minutes later, our pan con tomate arrived. Fifteen minutes after that, our cutlery hadn’t been changed nor removed, and we sat waiting for our next dishes — we’d ordered four more. Another waitress — who was deeply unpleasant to us throughout our evening — asked whether we’d had our dishes yet, I said we were still waiting for all of them, she said let me check with the kitchen. She turned away and started bantering with a colleague as my fiancé said “excuse me” to her, as he was about to order another round of drinks for us. She heard him, yet continued walking down the stairs. Then I said “excuse me” as she was walking down the stairs, she looked at me, and carried on down the stairs. She ostensibly ignored us. So we were sitting there with empty glasses and dirty plates. The other lovely waitress comes over when we say what’s happened and is very sweet. But then the mains come out (as our dirty cutlery and crockery are still on the table). The fries — £8 per portion — are quite clearly frozen chips. The steak — £48 per portion — is marketed as a steak with peppercorn sauce, yet what it was served in was NOT a peppercorn sauce, and at not one point were we offered a steak knife! So we sat there eating a £48 steak without a steak knife?! That’s not all — the waitress then asked whether we’d had all of our dishes. The overall experience of that meal is the worst I’ve ever had in London. For an establishment on Chiltern Street, I would — and do — expect better. It was kind of the manager to remove service charge and to offer us a free round of drinks, but really our experience at your restaurant this evening goes further — we were sold food that massively under delivered, we overpaid for everything we ate, and the staff - apart from the one lovely waitress whose name I don’t know - were indifferent to us. I genuinely hope that you take this as criticism that you can use constructively. This was truly one of the worst meals I’ve had in London ever.

Such a warm & beautiful space ✨ The food was some of the best we’d had (100% recommend the monkfish & the homemade lemon tart!) All the staff were so friendly and attentive, we were served by Luca who gave us lots of great recommendations and really knew his stuff! 🙂 Would definitely return! Thank you!

Very strange atmosphere. We were the only two people in the restaurant, yet the staff seemed grumpy and made us feel like we were bothering them. The food was average and parts of our order were forgotten, although the coffee was good. We wish them luck in the neighborhood, but as locals, we won’t be returning.
