A Maryland Seafood Chain Brings Maine Lobster to Downtown Seattle - Eater Seattle

"Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls, a popular Maryland seafood chain, is opening its first West Coast location in Downtown Seattle on August 4. The chain’s signature dish is a fluffy roll loaded with Maine lobster meat and served hot with warm butter, chilled with lemon butter, or with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. It also serves shrimp rolls and clam chowder along with some other lobster dishes like lobster mac and cheese, lobster grilled cheese, lobster bisque, and lobster salad." - Jade Yamazaki Stewart

Google
Seriously an amazing lobster roll, chilled, lemoned up with butter and mayo. Full of lobster meat. Their clam chowder was hot and delish. Some just right. Lots better than that other restaurant by the water😉 Nice sit down. No public restaurant.

Google
Delicious Lobster rolls with a surprising amount of variety between the many different options. the food was delicious and filling, but not so much so that you feel sick afterwards. it’s the perfect pit stop for a busy day of walking around the Pike Place area!

Google
First time having Masons lobster rolls, and ordred their classic roll, lobster with mayo and lemon butter, also got their mac n cheese. The lobster roll tasted really delicious and fresh, with no ammonia odor, which is always a good sign! I do wish their rolls had stronger buttery aroma though, that's the only downside. Their mac n cheese was really good as well! Highly recomended!

Google
The lobster roll was undeniably delicious - fresh, buttery, and full of flavor. That said, I was a bit underwhelmed by the portion size, especially considering the price. It felt a little disproportionate for what you get. Great taste, but I expected a bit more overall.

Google
The food was great!! Typical lobster roll, very pricey but expected in Seattle. 😂 The restaurant was very smoky inside so it was hard to enjoy the food and taste while trying to breathe 😁 The staff was great and very friendly and helpful

Google
The macaroni and cheese is really good. Lobster roll was okay but I usually get mine in Boston so it's not fair. Lobster bisque did not have any lobster in it.

Google
I’m conflicted with this review. The food is delicious , and tastes so good and fresh, yet the price is so expensive. Call me old fashioned , but paying $50 + CAN ($38USD) for a can of beer and a lobster on toast with coleslaw is crazy.

Google
The best lobster roll I’ve ever had. I got the Connecticut Roll because I don’t like Mayo. The lemon and butter is all you need. It’s absolutely perfect. If you’re missing that east coast flavor, stop in. I can’t wait to come back and try more. I actually came in yesterday & had this and had to stop back by to have it again today because it was so good.

Yelp
Had to try the famous lobster roll while i was in town. Didn't have a line when i walked which was good because i was in a time limit. Got my food right away. The roll was really good i was impressed on the taste the bun was nice and tasty and the lobster was seasoned right. The pickle on the side gave it a nice touch. Woupd patronize again.

Yelp
Situated across from the Seattle Art Museum, Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls serves up northeast-style seafood sandwiches. I got the classic roll, which is lobster & mayo on a nice buttered crispy bun. The lobster is soft and salty and quite refreshing, helping to cut through the richness of the butter and mayo. Mine didn't come with a lemon but my friend's did, so a little squeeze of lemon is highly recommended. Pretty well-priced for the amount of lobster that you get. I felt full but not stuffed after eating. Also comes with a pickle and free water inside. About $25- $30 including tax and tip. Quick counter service, clean interior, a bit of a silly seaside hipster vibe. Minimal vegetarian options, mostly sides. Nothing looked vegan. It's lobsta :P

Yelp
We ordered the Connecticut and classic lobster roll. Tasted pretty good It's a decent size for $26. The service is a little bit slow. They take their time to make plenty of sitting space.
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
I got the classic with no butter and just added lemon. The bun could have been better but the lobster was really good. It wasn't too busy while I was there but the server was very helpful with my dairy allergy and answering questions. Also friendly and attentive. There's lots of spots to sit by the window and people watch if you'd like, which is what I did since every one was coming back from the game.

Yelp
Very very good! We came across this place because Pike Place Chowder was closed...what a lucky find! I ordered the Connecticut roll, my friend ordered the classic roll! Delicious!!!! We tried the New England clam chowder and the lobster bisque...both fantastic! I would've loved a bread bowl, but I will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Everything was amazing. I loved the service. Everyone was so nice and helpful. A little dirty but other than that I loved it. The food was AMAZING and I would go again anytime. 5 Stars!

Yelp
We for the bay harbor lobster roll, which promises 50% more lobster, Including tail. $28. We got the warm lobster roll. It was delicious! The bread was nice and toasted. I felt like they gave a good amount of lobster. It wasn't very salted so we added some salt. It's located a few blocks from likes place. The price is a little more affordable than other places.

Yelp
Great lobster rolls! The portions, flavor, presentation is all on point. Centrally located downtown Seattle off first avenue, it's perfect for a stop while playing tourist downtown. Always friendly staff and greeted with a smile on every visit here I've made. It's hard not to make this a more regular stop. A lobster roll and bowl of chowder (clam or lobster bisque) will run you about $35-$40, but worth it!
google avatar

Caroline T.

Yelp
I'll be honest, the slightly lower prices at Mason's drew my interest and I was sold at the signficantly lower line. Staff is friendly and the shop was clean/well maintained. The New England clam chowder was tasty, with more clam than potatoes which made the price worth it. However compared to Ivar's or Pike Place Chowder, Mason's chowder seems slightly smaller. The Connecticut Roll was indeed buttery but well grilled, and considerably packed with lobster. I was a bit surprised with how small it was (slightly smaller than a regular fork), but I suppose that's the trade off for the lower cost. The whoopie pie is a nice treat down nostaliga lane. Tasty and not too messy. If I'm in the area again and not wanting to wait in the longer lines, I'll probably go back.

Yelp
I love that Seattle got lobster roll places. I'd tried the other and it was time to try here. Went with the typical roll with extra meat, it was skimpier than the other but good nonetheless. Pricing sameish so I would say the other place is the better deal, but if you only have this one it would do just fine.

Yelp
I was looking for a small bit before dinner, then there it is.. Mason's famous lobster roll! I had no expectation since I'm from out of town and never heard of it but I thought I would give it a try. I got the Connecticut roll since it's really cold outside. On first bite, it was quite good. The lobster tasted fresh, also tasted like seasoning was added. I like how the outside of the bread is slightly crispy and although it's small, still enough to hold the lobster. The temperature of the lobster roll was just right. The person taking the order was nice and the place is clean. I would come back if I am in the area again, hopefully the prices still stay the same~

Yelp
My friends and I were looking for a place around Pike Place to grab a quick dinner since we had a flight to catch. After searching around for a bit, we came across Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls since it didn't seem like they had much of a line. We ordered at the front of the store and picked up the food after around 5 minutes or so. The place has a good amount of seating so we were able to easily find a place to sit. I ordered the classic lobster roll along with a small cup of clam chowder. The chilled lobster meat was very fresh, while the buttery toasted roll offered a nice contrast to the texture of the lobster. The clam chowder was also solid, with a lot of freshness and flavor as well. Even though the prices are on the higher end, I do think the quality of this restaurant was great and I would definitely be open to coming again. Overall, if you're a fan of seafood then this is a good place to try out!
google avatar

Cris M.

Yelp
Ordered lobster rolls for delivery. Got the Bar Harbor which is essentially more lobster meat. The roll itself was delicious and the lobster was great! Would also recommend the lobster bisque (next time would add lobster pieces). I preferred to be overwhelmed with lobster and this is the place to go! How many times can one say "lobster" in one review without sounding like a fan girl! Mason's is a must try in Seattle!
google avatar

Monica K.

Yelp
Delicious lobster rolls, friendly service! My husband ordered the bar harbor, which comes with extra lobster, including the tail! I ordered the regular Connecticut style lobster roll and it was delicious! Perfectly buttery and toasted. We split some tater tots that were just okay. My husband also had the lobster bisque and thought it was just okay. We went back a couple days later and this time my husband ordered the lobster grilled cheese. He said it was the best thing he's been able to try in the menu.
google avatar

Daphne S.

Yelp
Until today, I had never had a lobster roll but had always dreamed of one. Even though it's a bit pricey, I think it was worth the experience! The restaurant was empty upon arrival and we were kindly greeted by a staff member. I order the bay harbor Connecticut roll. The lemon butter was great and not too lemony. The bread was super good. The lobster needed a little salt but was so good. The restaurant was clean and easy to find.
google avatar

Yelp
After walking around the Pike Place and Harbor Steps, we didn't want to deal with long lines so came here for a quick lunch based on the reviews. We had the classic lobster roll, BLT lobster roll and clam chowder. Everything was delicious. The price was reasonable. The place is very clean too.
google avatar

Sharon M.

Yelp
I had a Bar Harbor classic roll served warm. The "Bar Harbor" refers the size and gives you 50% more lobster meat. Totally, totally worth it. The lobster roll was excellent. The sandwich with tax will set you back $30.87. But, I was full and would do it again in a heartbeat when I'm ready to splurge on another lobster roll. I had another lobster roll a couple days ago from a competitor and there was no comparison and the quality of the meat. It wouldn't be fair to judge the quantity because I paid to have mine upsized and I could've done that at the other place too, but didn't. They also offer to serve the sandwiches cold or an a salad base and have shrimp rolls for 15 bucks too. The chowder was nothing special. Skip it. They also have grilled lobster mac & cheese and lobster grilled cheese sandwiches along with a couple sides of potato chips, potato salad, and tater tots
google avatar

Patti W.

Yelp
The service was great we were welcomed as we entered and helped right away. We had lobster rolls and they were amazing. The restaurant is definitely decorated as a little shop on the harbor. It's worth going back for.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Absolute perfection!!! Highly recommend! Service was amazing, no long lines, great vibe, delicious food.
google avatar

Adam R.

Yelp
We were in downtown for a show and this was near by. My husband found it and we decided to try it for lunch. First, skip the tater tots. They only have an airfryer/oven and the tots are cheap and frozen. My husband ordered the BLT and I ordered the Lobster Salad sandwich. I much preferred the Lobster Salad over the BLT. But both were good and the bread is probably what made these. The lobster was ok, but in general I am not a huge fan. We would definitely go back and next time I would order the chowder or bisque to give those a try.
google avatar

Janae T.

Yelp
This place is in the heart of downtown. They had a variety of different lobster rolls. The place is small, with a very few tables and chairs. Honestly the lobster roll was good, but it was not worth $20. I am a person who gets fulll fast and though it was stuffed with lobster it did not fill me up how I expected it to. Some rolls come hot and some rolls come cold. I think I had the BLT Roll. Which was delicious overall. 7/10 because of the price and the quantity
google avatar

Nayo M.

Yelp
Very friendly and courteous staff & service made me feel very welcome and right at home. The food was amazing. I had the clam chowder and the classic lobster roll. Seating was room was nice especially since we went in the evening time.
google avatar

Mel G.

Yelp
Food was delicious! We were looking for more affordable lobster roll options in town and found this one! The Mac and cheese was bomb af with the crumbs on top !! Solid 8.5/10. Restroom available too and a very short walk from pike market !
google avatar

Candy J.

Yelp
Right across the street from the Seattle Art Museum. Nice service, quick, and the dining room is clean. The rolls are fresh, buttery, and have lots of lobster. Delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Customer service literally was amazing! We were a group of 6 trying ALL the foods we could while walking up and down downtown Seattle and made a quick pit stop after an underground tour. When I asked if they could split a roll for us 4 ways, not an eye batted, just a simple smile and said most definitely! Ended up cutting it in three ways because he was afraid the roll would fall apart. Everyone was super helpful and there wasn't any sense of sloppiness here. E 10/10 recommend. Oh! And the warmed lobster roll with extra lobster - I am literally salivating remembering our experience! Also tried the lobster bisque-I wasn't a fan but my husband loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
Fresh lobster good pickles on the side . We tried this Cannadicut Sandwich I feel like its expensive for this portion.
google avatar

Samira D.

Yelp
I got a lobster grilled cheese and a new England clamp chowder. The chowder was some of the best I've had. The grilled cheese didn't have a lot of lobster in it. Overall, the food is good, just portion sizes small.
google avatar

Ronnie P.

Yelp
Only regret was I wish I would've came to Masons sooner. Got the Connecticut Roll. Bread was perfectly toasted & buttered. Lobster was warm, substantial & delicious. Service was very friendly. Dining area was a bit tight and only one bathroom so the wait times could take awhile. Overall if you are craving a Lobster Roll this is the place to go hands down!
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
I love lobster , went to Luke's yesterday. Luke's got a 5 this gets a 4 well because it just wasn't as good. Was it delicious ? Of course!! But if you're trying to chose one or the other, I would now say Luke's after trying both. The guy at Masons was super nice tho and the price is a bit cheaper
google avatar

Lora C.

Yelp
I was wandering around and looked up lobster rolls, this was mins away from where I was. Decided to stop by since reviews were good. I ordered the Connecticut roll $22.. it was good, they don't skimp on the lobster. This is the basic roll for me who doesn't like mayo.
google avatar

Carol H.

Yelp
Yes it's pricey but your in the heart of downtown Seattle next to The Four Seasons Hotel and it IS lobster. The small yummy classic of just melted butter w/ warm fresh lobster is $21 on a small but delicious butter lightly toasted bun. Doesn't come with anything but a combo of beverage and a side ( slaw, tots, etc) is $5 more. We also got a bowl of lobster bisque which was creamy delicious $7, and tots, decent nothing special. Stick with anything lobster, yummy.
google avatar

Cody A.

Yelp
Not a fan Perhaps I shouldn't have ordered this as takeout I found the lobster roll way overcooked, chewy and gross. The roll soggy and the lobster inedible The potato salad was great tho
google avatar

Antonio M.

Yelp
Solid lobster roll. Get the classic or Connecticut roll wit the lobster bisque meal. -$1
google avatar

Jewelisa B.

Yelp
Loster rolls were okay, ended up getting the connection Lobster roll which was supposed to come hot. It was more room temperature than anything. 2 rolls with 2 lobster bisque soup and 1 kid Mac & cheese total ended up being $52 which was a little much in my opinion. The service was good the guy up front was very helpful from beginning to end. Right when we walked in the places smelled and there was white smoke in the building unsure from where tho. If you want a quick bite to eat then this is the place. But if you want a nice hot lunch I would recommend another place instead.

Yelp
So this review included my 2 visits here during the same vacation. This was my first time trying a lobster roll and my goodness I had no idea what I was missing. First off, this isn't my go to kind of thing. I'm not a huge seafood guy, let alone lobster. But I am a fan of the kind of bread they use for lobster rolls. Combine that with the fact that I felt it necessary to get seafood while in Seattle, I just had to order a lobster roll. I ordered the Classic Lobster Roll served with chilled lobster, lemon butter and mayo. The lemon butter helped to accentuate the lobster and balance out the mayo. The bread had a nice little crisp on the outside while maintaining a nice soft interior; it was the perfect vessel for the lobster. The guy working the register was pleasant, answered all of my questions and thankfully kept me in check when I was on the verge of ordering too much. Glad he didn't stop me from ordering the cup of clam chowder though! Anyways the service was pretty good here. The food came out pretty quick. When I ordered online for a to-go order, they finished it just as I walked in at the pickup time.

Yelp
This cool vibe location downtown has great food and great service. The lobster grilled cheese was crispy and full of flavor. The lobster blt was packed full of buttery lobster severed with bacon lettuce and tomato. Absolutely delicious! Overall, this is fantastic food and I can't wait to come back and try more dishes.
google avatar

Joy J.

Yelp
Came here two weeks ago and you would walk right by it if you didn't know any better. It's 3 blocks down south of Pike Place Market, across from Seattle Art Museum. Nothing fancy about the inside but spacious indoor seating with bar stool seating at the window. The lobster rolls AND clam chowder are chefs kiss. You have a few different options how you want your lobster roll made. The lobster itself is fresh and sweet, rill is toasted just right. Be prepared to spend around $25/30 for the roll. For 2 rolls and clam chowder we paid $80 plus. Surely a must try!
google avatar

Marina M.

Yelp
Great food and service. Conveniently located across the street from the Seattle Art Museum. Their service was super fast. I saw many customers come and go while I ate here. The lobster roll, lobster bisque, and Cole slaw were all 5 stars. The lobster was not over cooked, and the bread melted in your mouth, while having the perfect crunch. I would definitely return.

Anne W.

Yelp
Its ok. Mean the one in maine is better and cheaper and give more. The price here 33$ for a Connecticut roll combo is insane.
google avatar

Ciara W.

Yelp
The yummiest lobster roll I have had in Seattle! I was so excited to try Mason's. I have been looking for a good lobster roll place in the area, and there just aren't many. I would definitely choose Mason's as my go to for lobster because it was so tasty. I ordered the BLT lobster roll and it is almost better than a classic garlic butter lobster roll. I highly recommend y'all try this place if you are down near pike place. It's a good roll!
google avatar

Alex A.

Yelp
Great food very welcoming service in such a clean place. Highly recommend. Easy options with no need to overthink.

Yelp
This is the kind of place I suggest staying away from if you visit Seattle.. it is "Kitchy" and tries to lure you in with the romanticism of a fresh lobster tail in the harbors of Seattle.. let me tell you... it's a trap.. About the food : I ordered a classic roll at the counter.. they serve it on a brioche bun of sorts that was grilled on a paninis press.. the lobster (3oz of mixed lobster including claw ) not all tail meat for sure.. was mediocre at best.. cooked meh... and not seasoned well at all.. it was supposed to be dressed but the mayo was watery.. served with a sliver of pickle , no lemon and no sides... total for this 25.50$ .... Save your money.. go to the market and enjoy some classics. For that money you can get a piroshki, a bowl of chowder and a steamed pork bun... Skip this place -- enjoy culinary adventures in the wonderful city of Seattle.. lots of yummy food to be found.. your fellow traveling sales chef - Jon

Yelp
The wife and I were just walking around and we had a sudden craving for some lobster rolls. This was the place we passed by with lobster rolls. And man oh man was it a great find! We shared the Connecticut Roll, which is a warm lobster roll tossed in butter. Sooooo goood!! One bite, and I was ready to scarf it down, but had to slow it down to savor the flavors. I really wanted to other another one right away, but lobsters roll are not cheap and we wanted to explore other food options. But I'd highly recommend it and would most definitely go back for more!
google avatar

Rebecca Q.

Yelp
Was surprised by how not busy this place was at 5 PM on a Friday. Ordered the Connecticut roll with a bowl of chowder and absolutely loved the delicious butteriness of the roll and creaminess of the chowder. Staff was very quick and friendly!

Yelp
An incredible visit to Mason's Famous Lobster Rolls last night. I have wanted to try a lobster roll from Mason's for some time and I finally made the trip downtown to enjoy the delicacy. I have only had one lobster roll previously, in Healdsburg, CA, and I enjoyed the classic version at that point. Last night, I tried the Connecticut version and it was so tasty. It is served warm with loads of butter. The pickle that accompanies the roll is smartly rolled in paper so that it does not touch the lobster roll. We also had the tater tots and they were perfect as well...hot and crisp. What was equally impressive was Sheri who took care of us. After bringing our food to us, she came back and checked on us. She took the time to engage with us and was so pleasant and also knowledgeable about the national company. The background music was excellent also. It was upbeat and had us singing the lyrics. I will definitely be back to enjoy another lobster roll and to enjoy the music and service that comes with the visit.
google avatar

Tanya C.

Yelp
We had to stop at Mason's... Heard so much about it! Did not disappoint... Service was great!! Rolls were buttery and juicy... I really like the lemon hint to it. If you are into the lobster roll thing, have at it!
google avatar

Anh N.

Yelp
TLDR: The lobster roll is solid! I enjoy mine warm with a perfect Texas Toast. Certainly an indulgence at nearly $30 for a sandwich but boy did it taste good. Food: -The Bar Harbor option - 50% more lobster?! It was a good amount though having the tail wasn't that worthwhile. It was the chewiest piece. -The Connecticut is served warm, classic is cold. This is literally all I got and it was delicious. Take it to, walk half a block south and enjoy the view of water looking southwest on University street.
google avatar

Anitra K.

Yelp
So good! Better than Cousin's Maine Lobster trucks! I've only had Cousin's available where I live and have been increasingly disappointed each time I've went. The lobster they give you is minimum unless you pay extra for more. The bread is usually soggy and the sandwich isn't very warm for the Connecticut Roll, but I digress... Mason's lobster roll was far more delicious. They make the roll right there behind the counter. The bread is nicely toasted. The cost for extra meat was only $8 compared to Cousins, it can be almost twice as much. They give you options of lemon butter, or lemon and butter separately, no extra charge. Salt, pepper and Old Bay seasonings on every table. When I finished my roll, I wanted another one!
