The 33 Best Rio de Janeiro Restaurants | Eater

"Chef Pedro Siqueira became famous for fresh pasta at Massa, his cheerful restaurant in the Leblon neighborhood, and slow-rise, naturally leavened pizza at Ella, a Neapolitan pizzeria in Rio’s Botanical Garden. Massa is now Massa + Ella, reflecting the pizza oven in the kitchen, allowing you to get both pasta and pizza in one place. Pair Siqueira’s signature pastas, like his beef rib and Grana Padano ravioli, with inventive pies topped with Brazil nuts, chile jam, or a wide range of cheeses." - Rafael Tonon

This was truly a great restaurant. Very cozy interior, amazing food, and nice staff. We ordered the burrata to share (recommend!) and then ate lasagne. This one was also really good and would order both dishes again. We came in without a reservation.

YUM. We got the filet mignon with pasta and it was excellent. Bill was $272R for two, but worth it. Our server Carol was fantastic. Great vibes. Good service. Highly recommend 👌

Visited in June 2024. Brazil. Rio de Janeiro. We stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to check it out because it was packed. Italian food is pretty popular in Brazil and we were curious to try it. The place is small and the tables are really close together, which wasn’t the most comfortable. Food: We were hoping to try the pizza because it looked good in the pictures, but they didn’t have any. Strange, since they were still making focaccia. For our main courses, we had the tortellini pasta with gorgonzola and jam inside. It seemed like a good combination, but the ravioli was too big so it wasn’t balanced. It was hard to tell if it was a main course or dessert. They brought it out on a plate with a chip on it, which is not sanitary and kind of ruined the impression of the restaurant. We also had the fish of the day with lemon risotto. I liked the risotto more than the fish. The fish was a little dry and not very juicy. The crispy skin was good though. For dessert, we had tiramisu. It was good but a little heavy. It needed some more balance and lightness. Service: The waiters didn’t speak English, but that’s no big deal. Service was fine, though we had to wait quite a while for our order. Overall: We felt like there were better Italian restaurants around. Plus, there was no pizza, which was weird since they still made focaccia. For us, this was a one-time visit.

The atmosphere at this restaurant was fantastic, and the food was exceptional. However, what truly set this place apart was the outstanding service. During our time in Rio, we’ve encountered some disappointing service experiences, but Carol completely turned things around for us. Her attentiveness and professionalism made our visit truly memorable!

I hadn’t planned to eat here, but when my original choice was closed, I stopped in for a quick drink. The menu, service, and incredible wine quickly won me over. The Chardonnay was exceptional, and the mushroom pasta with filet mignon was easily one of the best pastas I’ve ever had. The service was the best I’ve experienced in Rio—my waiter was knowledgeable, passionate, and made my night truly special. The restaurant is beautiful, and I can’t stop thinking about my experience. I’d love to return and highly recommend this place!

Top 3 spots in Rio. Phenomenal octopus and bursts pizza entrees. Filet mignon pasta was fantastic and Carol’s service was top tier. This was a breath of fresh air in the Rio dining scene. Highly recommended! Great prices too.

The crispy pulpo was perfect! The tiramisu was amazing. By far the best tiramisu I had. Slow servie but I guess it’s worth the wait.
