The 13 Best Ethiopian Restaurants In Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Ethiopian breakfast can be hard to find in Seattle. Massawa in Hillman City is where to go for an exceptional one, fueled by the best quanta firfir—a tomatoey stew of dried beef—in the city. For a complete Ethiopian breakfast, get here around 11am and ask very nicely for ga’at, a thick porridge that’s eaten with berbere and kibbeh. If they don’t have ga'at, get some spicy scrambled eggs known as enkulal firfir, or foul, which is casually the greatest way to eat fava beans. Are you going to have an easy time finding parking here? Probably not, but it’s worth it for a morning meal." - lidiya belete, aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

Incredibly flavorful dishes and portions so big I needed a box! Lovely vibe and helpful staff. Setting is gorgeous and the waiters are very professional. 10/10! The kitchen has definitely stepped up their game.

Google
Injira was cold, Masir wot was ok, it was 15.99 on the menu but charged us 21.99 which is extremely overprised given there was no salad. Asked for 2 plates for kids the server gave us 1, had to ask for another. Atmosphere was barely passable for a restaurant in the city.

Sucking I.

Google
Just grabbed lunch at that place on S Mead St. It was packed, seriously long wait even though the menu looked pretty simple. The food was decent, portion size felt a little small for the price. The staff were all super nice, even though they seemed a bit overwhelmed. Maybe a few more tables would help!

Just tried Kitfoo on S Mead St and wow, it was packed! Seriously buzzing with people. The collard greens were insane – seriously the star of the show. Portions were generous for the price. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, maybe go during off-peak hours. Would love to see them offer a little takeout counter outside, just for easier grabbing.

Google
Brilliant! Delicious food, lovely ambience, and great service. A fantastic addition to the area. Go now!

Google
Delicious food, friendly staff. You'll need more injera bread, but it's so worth it.

Google
I did not like the inside vibe but the food is really good. Especially I liked their flat bread.

Google
I ordered food from them from Uber $27 plus $18 shipping 40 something dollars to get my food here for the combination plate and they lowkey scammed me out of my money and gave me meat combination which is cheaper. I called them four times and they didn’t answer. I called them again and they hung up in my face after saying they were gonna talk to the kitchen. Never called back

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Best meal I had in Seattle. I got lamb with caramalized onion in a mildly spicy sauce with injera. 10/10 will go again next time I'm here. Also great service and not too expensive.

Yelp
Food is pretty authentic and delicious. Highly recommend getting the combination plate and the Eritrean coffee super rich and delicious full of flavor. The meal was absolutely fantastic. kind of a hole in the wall, and parking is limited the service was OK A little busy most of the time, but they did hand me my food with care.

Yelp
Best Kitfo in the city. I love to order the kitfo with the Gomen and Shiro combo side. I have only had 1 order messed up and they were quick to fix it. The only other issue I had was when I really wanted kitfo and they only had spaghetti for the night. It is rare to have an issue.

Yelp
I've eaten at Massawa now 5 more times and it's really my favorite Ethiopian restaurant. Their food quality is consistently good and they are a good value for money even if the service is a bit slow. I'd recommend confirming your order with the guy who runs the place as the waitress' command of English is not so strong so sometimes she doesn't understand what you are asking for. I always can split a combo plate with someone and then still have enough leftover for a meal to take home.

Yelp
We got the combination plate. It was delicious! Very spicy though and I'm not a person into spicy food. I enjoyed everything. Staff is very friendly!

Yelp
The food is delicious. Inside, it's reminiscent of a dive bar, but don't let the kooks fool you. All of the "regulars" inside were welcoming and the young lady behind the bar was very pleasant.

Yelp
I got the meat and veggie combo and the portion was very generous. Way more than one person can eat. Definitely meant for sharing. Everything was delicious. I especially like the cabbage and the lamb dish, but really can't go wrong. The flavors were really rich and spiced well. I would definitely come back. It definitely felt like a community hangout spot :).

Yelp
Pretty delicious spread. We had the meat and veggie combo. 1 each and it was combined into one giant plate. This was definitely enough food for 4 hungry adults. It was TOO much food, but it was good and delicious. Great service. The place can look sketch because there's very little lighting outside. It looks like a bar from the outside but there are tables inside. They're typically very busy whenever I have come. I highly recommend it as a good late night spot with delicious options!!

Yelp
After a few orders from Massawa, I got food poisoning from the last order. The type of food poisoning leading to fever and missed work for 4 days. I'm sad to write this update, but in the interest of public health, it should be known.

Yelp
I am not sure why there are only 2 reviews but this place is fantastic. I like that the menu was only 4-5 items per section. I had the vegetarian combo and hubs had the meat combo. Unfortunately due to circumstances right now the beer selection was only domestic and the only available wine was red, quite tasty though. The food was really really good. Full of flavor and aroma with just the right spice level. The atmosphere is nice, not overly decorated but given you a glimpse into the culture. What was e re ally great though besides the food was the very personable service. We will definitely be back

Yelp
It appears that this is the first review. Well, let me ruin it for myself and let you in on a little secret...this is a place worth checking out. It doesn't look like much from the outside - across the street from a rundown looking Tropical Hut spinoff...and it's by far not the only Ethiopian Restaurant in the hood, but you open the door and you cross the threshold into another place. There is a fog hanging in the air, with an aroma of Eastern incense. Some locals are hanging by the bar just chit chatting. It's boisterous and yet quiet in the main seating area, like nobody's seen a non-African before, like nobody's left a Yelp Review here before...but you sit down and the matriarch of the establishment comes and drops off menus. But the obvious choices are to go for the Vegetable and Meat combo and what's brought back after moments are a colorful panoply of delicious saucy lentils and animal proteins to dip one's injera. Soak it all up, and finish off with a complimentary coffee which is robust and sweet. The server points out the tray of sugar to add, but it needs none. You'll leave satisfied with a lingering memory of the art you just ingested...that is, until your next visit.

Yelp
We ordered a veggie combo and a meat combo with a side order of shiro (that is my favorite so I had to order extra). We got it delivered from Uber Eats. The food was good and you could tell that it was very fresh. Also everything is cooked well.I will say that some of the veggie sides lacked some flavor. It was still very good. Their shiro is delicious!!! Ever since going to Ethiopia I have been on the hunt for a place with good shiro. I found the place!I

Yelp
A restaurant is great when they can maintain consistently good food and service and this place does that. Very good food made with attention and care.

Yelp
Best Eritrean/Ethiopian restaurant in town! I went to the grand opening and it didn't disappoint. Great food, customer service and a lively atmosphere. Loved the area in the restaurant where you can roast coffee and socialize. There's also a bar and stage area with a dance floor that looks great for parties. I highly recommend.
