Yelp
This Massia Kabob is inside the Santa Anita Mall food court right near the mall entrance by the AMC theater, The Cheesecake Factory (visible from the parking lot), Benihana (visible from the parking lot), and the Craft by Fire (visible from the parking lot and used to be the Wood Ranch BBQ prior to COVID). This should be the south-east entrance. If you park in the parking garage behind the AMC rather than the open lot right by the mall entrance, there is also quick access to the food court.
As other reviewers said, the service at Massis has never been good and it has gotten worse. The servers are either cold or rude depending on the day. However, and contrary to other reviewers, the food quality has remained the same. The food quality at this location has always varied. Some items and particularly the beef dishes, but also sometimes the chicken, are somtimes dry. Their food does take a long time to prepare. This is standard for kabob places. Expect to wait. The wait time is not an issue particular to Massis.
We usually get, and did on this visit, the #11 (Chicken Kabob Boneless) and #12b (Persian Koubideh Chicken) (see menu pics). The kobob varies in quality and is sometimes dry, but on this visit it was not. The Koubideh has never been dry and was of good quality on our visit. If you are not super hungry, then the Koubideh may be big enough to share or you can just share and save room for desert at a near by spot in the food court. The Chicken Kabob is only big enough for one person. In the past, it seemed like we used to get a choice of side (see pic of sides), but this time they did not ask us and just gave us both the Shirazi Salad which we do not care for (we both tossed it). The pickled red cabbage has a much better flavor, but tastes vary. On our next visit we plan to try to remember if we can change the side and recommend you ask them if they do not ask you what side you want.
Like everywhere in the post-COVID and government induced inflation world, the prices have gone up. However, the food court is still busy and the ambiance can be pretty noisy. The tables are often sticky and not clean, so we recommend brining you own wet wipes to clean them.
Tips: (1) ask if you can get a choice of sides when you order, especially if you don't want Shirazi Salad. (2) try the pickled red cabbage. (3) bring wet wipes for the table. (4) bring your own drinks in a small cooler. (5) expect it to be crowded and noisy. If you want to talk, get take out and go home or eat in your car. (6) Their foood does take a long time to prepare. This is standard for kabob places. Expect to wait. (7) Share the Koubideh to save money or room for dessert.
Overall, the 3 star Yelp average is too low for this place. Management needs to get the servers to be more friendly, polite, and helpful and to get the cooks to prepare the food more consistently. This is not a 5 star restaurant, but it should have a 4 star average based on the quality of the food when it is prepared well. We would recommend this place, but expect to wait for your food. Go next door to McDonalds if you are in a hurry.
