I travel frequently for work, and stayed in Norwalk this week as I recently took over the Connecticut region for my office. I decided to head to Match for dinner because I saw the Carpetbaggers appetizer on their menu and was intrigued. Overall, my experience at Match was great and I would definitely head back again the next time I'm in town. It's a bit pricey, but worth the expense.
Carpetbaggers app: Pure bliss. Truffle cream, steak tartare, fried oyster. Unctuous and satisfying, worth every penny. Oysters still tasted incredibly moist and fresh, not at all rubbery. Very light, airy batter on them also.
Half Chicken Entree: the chicken was cooked very well; very moist and not dried out at all. The basil-lemon marinade on it was yummy also. There was a pan jus with the chicken, but in my opinion the chicken could have been complimented by a sauce that reinforced the marinade. The broccoli was cooked beautifully, and the scalloped potatoes were excellent- creamy, flavorful, but not overly rich.
Raspberry "Hot Chocolate" Cake: this was essentially a molten lava cake, but done very well. The inside/molten part of the cake was almost like a cross between a chocolate pudding and a mousse- very yummy. It was a bit rich, as it is intended to be I'm sure, but the cake was complimented well by a Tahitian Vanilla Ice cream, mascarpone cream, and fresh raspberries. It was a well-balanced but indulgent dessert. Worth the calories!
Service: save the best for last! My server, Piotre, was wonderful. He was attentive without being intrusive, and was funny, personable and knowledgeable. I think that service can really set a restaurant apart from the pack and elevate the whole experience. Piotre's service did exactly that, and was the cherry on top of a lovely meal.
Thank you, Match team!
