The Best Soft Serve Ice Cream in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"For those who enjoy matcha and soft serve ice cream, head to Matcha Cafe Maiko on Buford Highway. The silky sweet texture of soft serve mixed with the slight bitterness of ground green tea leaves makes this ice cream pop with flavor while still being refreshing and not too sweet. Try the matcha and vanilla swirl in a waffle cone. The cafe also includes parfaits and soft serve floats on its menu." - Beth McKibben

Google
This matcha shaved ice cream is perfect if you love strong premium matcha flavor. The matcha soft serve on top is super creamy with a rich texture. The shaved ice underneath is lightly sweet with red bean, mochi, and Japanese chestnuts , balance everything really well. I love how crowded this place is but they’re very fast with 5 staffs working. It’s hard to find matcha soft serve that’s lightly, perfectly sweetened. I’d definitely returning soon!!

This matcha shop is always a must-visit for us whenever we come to Orlando. The shop itself is small and often very busy, so the tables and floor can feel a bit sticky and not very clean, and the door frame is even a little chipped. That said, the drinks are truly delicious, rich and flavorful. The ice cream is also very good, and the hojicha flavor is worth trying too.

Google
Everytime is amazing! Food and drinks are fabulous. Decor is incredibly cute and ever changing!! Very fun and festive with fantastic food!! The matcha menu is extensive, and all things are made fresh and fast!!

Google
I tried the matcha and ube cone as well as the banana pudding matcha latte, both were amazing. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it got quite busy after I ordered. Seating is quite limited once it got busy. As is pretty typical for the area, I had to search around a little for parking, but was able to find a spot pretty quickly Staff was incredibly friendly, the food and drink were delicious, and the prices were incredibly reasonable.

Google
This place is super hyped, and from the title, you’d think they’re selling premium matcha. I ordered the Rose matcha latte, but it was incredibly watered down. When matcha is of good quality and prepared correctly, it has a sweet taste profile. This matcha, however, had a bitter undertone and seemed either low quality or whisked with high-temperature water. Either way, it’s one of my least favorite matcha places in Orlando.

Google
Matcha overload the shaved ice deserves to be a star .many different flavors fun options taiyaki , coffees, teas, and toppings a little small a little tight a lot of flavor somewhat busy it seems like the secret is out. It's a really good place to get quick snacks.

Google
BEST tasting Macha ! A real taste of Japan! Friendly positive atmosphere. Very popular with college age people! More varies of Macha than i ever saw anywhere outside of Japan! Update! I stop here when I visit Orlando (monthly) I recommend the matcha latte float with Macha ice cream ! Wonderful 💚 !! It's not a store bought ice cream. They make it themselves on site... my opinion: the best tasting matcha ice cream since I was in Tokyo !!

Mackenzie T.

Google
The matcha here is the best matcha I have had in the area! I love the ube foam matcha and would have it every day if I could. They are always super busy but the order comes fast. Love that they have dairy free milk options as well.

Yelp
I absolutely loved my visit to Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko! Ive been here a few times and the drinks have been consistent, if you're a true matcha fan, this place is a must-try. You can immediately tell the matcha is high quality and authentic ...rich, smooth, and not bitter. My cousins and I tried the Oreo matcha , Strawberry and Banana Matcha and the Honeycomb Matcha, and all were incredible. The Strawberry and Banana Matcha had fresh fruit and refreshing with each sip, with just the right amount of natural sweetness from the fruit so it wasn't overly sweet. The Honeycomb Matcha was the standout for me. It's actual pieces of real honeycomb which added a deep, caramel-like sweetness that paired beautifully with the earthy matcha. It was such a unique combination and balanced. On top of amazing drinks, the menu has a great variety of matcha and hojicha options, plus delicious desserts and soft serve. The space is small and there usually is a long line, but it goes by fast. Overall, this is easily one of the best matcha spots I've had. I'll definitely be back to try more maybe with Ube flavors...highly recommend if you love premium matcha and creative flavors!

Yelp
Tiktok be overhyping everything.,. It was OKAY. No preference between Bin Bong which is a two minute walk around the corner of the block and this place. The matcha icecream is good from here. They have sweetness levels and I got regular, with oatmilk. Ice chunks were better than Bin Bong.

Yelp
We came on New Years Day and it was busy. The line moves pretty fast and we were given a buzzer for our order. We waited no longer than 10 minutes for our order. The decor is cute and there is a circle chair that's a perfect photo op. The parking situation is like the Hunger Games like most places in the Mills area. Luckily we were pretty much in and out. We ordered: -Special- Banana Pudding Matcha Latte -Matcha Latte with Ube Foam -Nutella Taiyaki I enjoyed the Matcha with Ube Foam and the Nutella Taiyaki. It tastes high quality versus other Matcha's I've tried. My partner didn't like Matcha but he was trying it for the first time. It's too "earthy" for him but he did enjoy the Banana Pudding part.

Yelp
Came back here in January and got the: Matcha yuzu tea: half sweetness was good to get something refreshing because I was feeling too full for milk. Their drinks are always so well-crafted. Kokuto matcha kuromitsu kinako cream: took a sip of this and has a more pronounced nutty flavor similar to misugaru which I appreciate more than the brown sugar taste. I'd try this again. January's soft serve is black sesame so we got the matcha/sesame combo - since it's not a swirl, they just give you half and half as a tip! Black sesame was good and not too heavy although I personally could use a little more black sesame flavor

Yelp
We lucked out yesterday morning with no line! The first time I came to Cafe Maiko, there was a line out the door! I wanted something a little sweeter this time around, so I tried the honeycomb iced matcha latte. I ordered this as a medium size with almond milk, and while it wasn't super sweet at first sip, the honeycomb seeped into the matcha as time passed and it got a little sweeter and sweeter. The ambiance inside is very cozy and clean and the staff gives you a buzzer to let you know when your order is ready. The parking situation was easy, with a lot out back, and I definitely want to come back and try their other fun matcha creations!
google avatar

Yelp
The matcha is just as expected. The quality is consistent compared to the NYC locations. It's a small store so the seating is somewhat limited.
google avatar

Yelp
I recently returned from a Japan trip and found myself craving a good, authentic matcha - thankfully Cafe Maiko was here to help! I like that you can customize your sweetness level and milk. WiFi was good enough to work for a bit on my laptop and the cafe and restroom were clean and comfortable. I think I'll be coming back again soon!

Yelp
Ok I've been trying to be a matcha girlie for like 5 years now and I think it's finally official. I've been ordering matcha at basically every coffee shop around town lately, and I have to say that this is THE spot! They pretty much always have a line at any time of the day if that tells you anything. They have lots of creative matcha combinations and viral drinks, but I love a good strawberry matcha and this is the best one I've had so far. You can actually taste the strawberry when it mixes with the matcha and it's a fresh strawberry flavor -- not like a syrup. Trust me, it's so good! I've also tried their viral banana pudding matcha which was... interesting. The banana pudding on top was AMAZING if you just eat it straight up with a spoon, but once it mixed into the drink you couldn't really taste it anymore and it made the matcha chunky. I would get it again and just eat the pudding first, haha.

Yelp
This Matcha Café is a hidden gem in Orlando! There's plenty of parking on the side of the building, which makes it easy to pop in for a quick stop. Service is always fast, and the matcha blends are consistently delicious--whether you go for one of their seasonal specials or stick to the classics, you really can't go wrong. The seating area is small, but honestly, the real star here is the baked goods. Every pastry I've tried pairs perfectly with their drinks and elevates the whole experience. I've been back several times now, and the fact that I keep returning says it all. Definitely add this spot to your matcha tour of Orlando--you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
There was a time where this was the MAIN spot to get your matcha latte in Mills50. It's crazy how we now have a multitude of options and the original spots can become overlooked. I still stop by this cafe when I'm in town and really enjoy all of the options available. They really do have high quality matcha. This time I tried the banana pudding matcha latte, what a treat. Whole chunks of banana pudding in a bright green matcha latte. Ordering is simple enough, the girls behind the counter were all nice. The one downside of this place is the lack of seating. When I'm solo it's easy to take my drink with me and continue walking, but if I wanted to come in a group this wouldn't be my first choice.

Yelp
I have heard good things about this spot, and so I was excited to check it out! The service was great, I loved their little hangout spot, and that they even had photo opportunities! This honeycomb matcha was honestly not my favorite though. I did not realize that it was just regular matcha with honeycomb toffee on top, which I wish was made clear to me. I had them add a shot of vanilla which helped a little, but I think that much sugar made my stomach upset. I do want to go back and give them another try, I just know now in the future to ask if the matcha is flavored with the item or is it on top only

Yelp
My friends wanted to grab dessert and suggested Cafe Matcha Maiko. Only one problem, I don't really like Matcha!! I was unsure if there would be anything for me here but decided to go find out. It was very crowded so clearly a very popular spot. It smelled amazing as soon as I stepped inside and the interior was cute. Fortunately for me, they have some non matcha items on the menu. I chose Ube Soft Serve ice cream. It was ready quickly even though it was so busy. The ice cream was delicious! I love Ube so I knew I would like it but it was even better than expected. My friends all got matcha drinks and liked theirs too.

Yelp
Hands down best matcha in the area. You can definitely tell the matcha is great quality. The variety offered is amazing and so are their prices. No over priced latte here. Downsides- traffic/ parking and long line/ wait time. My Go To: Iced/hot matcha latte with ube foam. Iced Yuzu matcha Tea spritz.
google avatar

Bianca C.

Yelp
One of the staples I go to every time I'm in the area because they make real and AUTHENTIC matcha, the quality speaks for itself and I love how versatile their menu is. You can get floats, ice creams, actual drinks or even slushy versions. They do an amazing job at maintaining returning customers as well as bringing in new ones. The shop isn't too big and has maybe about 5-6 tables but the menu is unbelievably good. My favorite and I recommend you get this one is the strawberry matcha with the ube cloud ontop. So yummy and not overly sweet. Shop is always clean and staff is always friendly. I like the simplicity of the store where it's not too much decor making it an overstimulating environment. Such a cute cafe!
google avatar

Ariann A.

Yelp
Matcha Maiko is one of those places I always have to stop by when I'm on Mills. Service is fairly quick but the cafe is pretty tiny for the amount of traffic that flows through there. The cafe itself has limited seating but on days where it's not busy I think it could be a cool little spot to relax. Matcha ice cream and the float are always a hit!
google avatar

Alaina M.

Yelp
Super cool menu with a variety of options that are matcha based. Perfect for a matcha lover! They have frappes & lattes & floats. They do charge extra for non-dairy milk which I'm not a fan of, but otherwise are reasonably priced. Seating for like 12-16 inside and ample parking next to it.
google avatar

Deveron L.

Yelp
If you love matcha this is the only place. I got the matcha espresso latte and it didn't disappoint. I'll be back for some treats but this gave me my caffeine fix on Christmas Day! Very clean and friendly!
google avatar

Susan L.

Yelp
I usually get their soft serve when I visit, but the matcha latte and float are good too. The matcha flavor is rich and of quality. For thr soft serve, they have a different flavor of the month which is a nice change if you want something other than their usual matcha, so keep an eye out for the little black board on their counter. I got the pandan this time which was sweet and earthy just like it should be. Limited seating but that's to be expected since the shop is small and cozy. Service is quick even when they're busy. Always a nice sweet treat!
google avatar

Hattie W.

Yelp
Most delicious matcha I've ever had!! There is always a line and parking is hard but it's so worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has been going viral all over social media for their banana pudding matcha latte, however I just wanted to try their iced matcha drinks in general. I stopped by around 5:30 on Saturday and it was packed inside with a line excited to order their matcha treat. While in line, I contemplated over getting an iced matcha latte with an ube cold foam, an iced strawberry matcha latte, or the viral banana pudding matcha latte. I did keep it simple with an iced matcha latte with almond milk and an ube cold foam. It came out to $7 and some change. I waited in the crowded store which is modern and cute. About 10 minutes later, my drink order was ready. Aesthetically, it's photo worthy. Unfortunately, my matcha latte was not an iced latte. It was lukewarm with a few ice cubes. Kinda of disappointing however the drink overall was good. The ube foam was delicious with this nutty, yam like taste. It wasn't super sweet which I like because you can taste the matcha flavor. Once I mixed the ube foam and matcha together, it was really good. It had an earthy, vanilla flavor profile but again it wasn't iced. However, I will be returning to Premium Matcha for another matcha latte and I need to try their ube and matcha soft serve in a cone ASAP. I'll definitely recommend this spot but I would say to stop in maybe during the week or earlier in the day to beat the crowd.
google avatar

Meg M.

Yelp
I came here with family who love matcha and was not disappointed at all! This is the cutest spot and is quite popular. They have many different drink options to choose from and have some seating inside the cafe. There is also a parking lot behind it.
google avatar

Henry V L.

Yelp
Matcha Maiko If you want real great tasting Matcha this is where you'd want to go A little disappointed they didn't have soft serve at the time I went though I got the Matcha Latte with Oatmilk And realized a matcha-piece was built! Customers seem to enjoy this place We were in a line out the door with no space Overall, we didn't wait so long for our drink Matcha, Taro, and Ice Cream and that's really this shop in a blink
google avatar

Peachtra C.

Yelp
I was in the mood for Matcha and was told Premium Matcha was the best place to go. The parking lot is small so most ppl park next door or down the street. The line is consistently long , but moves fast. The limited edition matcha flavor is Banana Pudding so that's what I ordered. I also got 2 Taiyakis ( cheddar & custard). I was in & out with my order in under 10 mins even with the Taiyakis cooked fresh & made to order . It was impossible to get a table but I sat for a few by the window. The banana pudding matcha latte was good . I'm still not sure if it was best to stir it like I did or eat it off the top . The ambiance was busy and customer service was as great . I would come back again.
google avatar

Yelp
I know I'm not the first person to love Matcha Maiko and I certainly won't be the last. You can find me at least once a month trying out the flavor of the month for their soft serve -- rose, Thai tea, jasmine tea, melon, so many more -- I haven't tried a flavor that I didn't love yet. The matcha quality and flavor here is fantastic, and they make it so well. The Strawberry Matcha is basic, but it's my go-to. Lines are always packed out the door on evenings and weekends. If you can, I recommend coming earlier in the day if you wanna grab a spot. Service is quick and friendly.
google avatar

Tam N.

Yelp
Everything tastes so good, super smooth matcha, not bitter at all. The matcha latte, the egg coffee, even rose matcha? All 10/10. Vibe is cozy, cute, and perfect for hanging out or to go. Service is pretty fast. Plenty of parking. Visiting Orlando again, and this spot came highly recommended. So yeah, I'm already planning my next visit :)
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
Finally was able to try Cafe Maiko. There was no line, which was really nice because every time I've passed by it's usually packed. When you order they give you a pager which is really nice because it does get pretty busy in there and it's easier than listening to your name being called. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte and it was sweet and creamy. I've since been back a second time and learned that you could actually purchase their matcha as well, which I will be doing in the future. Will definitely be back to try their other flavors!
google avatar

Jozette

Yelp
I was recommended to come here by a friend and TikTok and I regret nothing. I decided to drive out 20 minutes while on vacation to Orlando and it was worth it! I've never had matcha with honeycomb before, but it was so good. The honeycomb had an amazing texture and that tooth sticking quality. The place is a cute little cafe and the service is nice. It was worth the out of the way drive!
google avatar

Saida S.

Yelp
First time I came here I got the strawberry matcha which felt a bit too sweet and overpowering to the point where I couldn't properly taste the matcha. I cane back and got their regular iced matcha it was good I would also try their ice cream and deserts but solid matcha flavor, can get pretty crowded
google avatar

Allison B.

Yelp
When it comes to matcha, Cafe Maiko can't be beat! I ordered their housemade honeycomb matcha latte and it's hands-down my new favorite matcha drink in town. The honeycomb melts into the drink over time and gives it a wonderful sweetness without being overpowering. What I especially appreciated was the fact that they give out buzzers to know when your order is ready! It was really nice not having to wait around the counter.
google avatar

Gabbi H.

Yelp
When we visited, it was so busy, so clearly a crowd favorite! Despite that, they were getting orders filled quickly and had great service. Such a good menu with lots of variety and amazing matcha. I got the banana pudding latte, which was a seasonal specialty. I did feel like I hardly had any drink, especially for the price, but I think it's the way that drink was made, with the banana pudding added into it. Next time, I would get a regular matcha with a cold foam or something instead. Lots of sweet treats here, and a few other options if you don't want matcha too. A small shop but they do have some tables to sit at. It's cute but not much going on in terms of aesthetic. But that doesn't always matter when the matcha is delicious!
google avatar

Kristine N.

Yelp
The assorted types of matcha here is amazing. My favorite was the soft serve. I will say that their matcha is on the stronger side, but it softens very well with the cream. The service here is fast, and it's very cool to see the shaved ice made. This would also be the perfect spot to do some homework or hang out.

Laura Lee P.

Yelp
The vibe was nice, but not super cozy due to how crammed and open it is. The staff were kind... However, the matcha was very good!! I also enjoyed the taiyaki.
google avatar

Jackeline F.

Yelp
Premium Matcha Café was on the list of places my daughter needed to go while visiting. The pictures online look amazing. The small space is on Mills, there is an attached parking lot but there were no spaces available. This was my 1st time having matcha and it didn't disappoint. The menu is on the wall or you can scan the QR code for the digital menu. They serve all sorts of beverages and they serve the most amazing looking ice cream that I did not have on this visit but will return for it. We ordered, one iced matcha latte full sweet and one hot matcha latte and an order of custard filled taiyakis (there are 2 in the order). We were given a sort of pager and we waited, but not for long. The space is not that big. And all the seating options were taken. There are small tables and bench sitting by the windows. The iced matcha was perfect according to my daughter, the hot was interesting but good. I should have ordered an iced. The taiyaki was warm and subtly sweet. We will be back for the ice cream.
google avatar

Joy J.

Yelp
Finally get to review this place that has gotten popular over the years. The location of this place is odd because its next door to my seamstress shop! The parking can be challenging because its a limited spot for cars to park. As you can see on the pics there is a line especially on weekends. But it goes by fast. 1 star was removed because the AC is not pumping enough for this warm Florida weather. It was warm inside! Looking through the menu you have 3 soft serve flavors: Matcha Ube or Vanilla. I opted for what they are known for Matcha. Ordered the Shave Ice - Uji Kintoki for $9.50 Its very instagram photo esque when they serve it on a bamboo stand. Its a loaded shave ice with matcha syrup, mochi balls, red beans, chestnuts and matcha vanilla swirl soft serve dusted with matcha powder. Its looks overloaded but for some reason it was light to eat perhaps the shave ice factor. It was delicious not overly sweet and refreshing. It does have a strong matcha flavor. Staff here are nice and limited seating inside. Inside was capacity level and I think thats what made the inside turned to warm temperature. This franchise is also known to franchised all over USA. I would try the ube flavor next time and try the fish shaped pastries. Definitely would come back!
google avatar

Sharlene F.

Yelp
The matcha vanilla soft serve with a honey comb on a cone was absolutely delicious! It was the perfect treat after dinner. The cone was freshly made and not super sweet and the soft self was the perfect balance. The service was great as well! The young man who took my order was super friendly and welcoming. Can't wait to come back and try the drinks!
google avatar

Cecilia B.

Yelp
One of my new go to places for a strawberry matcha latte. I will say though that cafe Maiko gets quite busy late in the evening. I arrived on a lucky day and only had one other person in front of me before placing my order. On other occasions when I went with a friend it can be 30 minutes to an hour. The matcha was very creamy and whisked well. It didn't separate and the strawberry added the right amount of sweetness. I also bought separate matcha to bake. The matcha also serves well in baked goods for those that want a great quality matcha to put into their cookies.
google avatar

Kelsey H.

Yelp
I went here for the first time and had heard only positive things about this matcha shop. It's located in the Mills 50 district which is a prime location for Florida foodies. The shop was clean but very tiny! Not a ton of seating and unfortunately when I went the AC was broken because of a power outage in the area. I ordered the seasonal special which was the banana pudding matcha! It was DELICIOUS! Definitely worth the hype. My friends got regular matcha and they said they enjoyed their drinks as well. It's a bit pricey, my matcha was just under $9 so that is the only reason I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 stars.
google avatar

Jamie W.

Yelp
When I visited Orlando a few months ago, I had a very positive experience. My order was taken promptly, and I received my Coffee Latte Float efficiently. The Coffee Latte Float was well-made and delicious. Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko offers a variety of drinks to choose from, and I recommend the Coffee Latte Float; you won't regret it. Overall satisfaction with my visit? I was pleased with my drink order and had no issues or complaints about the drink or the staff.
google avatar

Calvin Y.

Yelp
Extremely good hojicha and the small cafe is cute! Love to go there for a quick refreshing drink on a hot summer day!
google avatar

Rocky M.

Yelp
They have some of the best matcha in Orlando, incredibly smooth, bright green and never grainy. I highly recommend their matcha latte float, not too sweet and it's topped with their soft serve ice cream. I like to get it w/ light ice as it makes it easier to eat the ice cream on top. For a sweeter option, their strawberry matcha latte is fantastic (especially good if it's your first time trying matcha and you're not sure if you'll like the strong tea flavor). They have a beautiful seating area where you can eat/ chat + amazing staff. The building isn't too big so it can get cramped when it's busy. Overall, the drinks + ice cream are amazing and I've never had a bad experience here!
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Since I was in the Mills 50 area and was wanted something sweet stopped by here and got the matcha ice cream on a cone and loved it you can also choose from other ice cream flavors like taro or vanilla too!
google avatar

Jade R.

Yelp
My friend and I both ordered the ube foam matcha, I also added blueberry flavor to my drink. The ube foam was really good at first, but then it tasted like food dye? The after taste was very strong and not pleasant. We did like the actual matcha and it was very thick!
google avatar

Madison L.

Yelp
A must visit everytime you're in Orlando ! No ! Everytime you're in Mills! Premium matcha indeed. Not even cold weather can stop me from enjoying some ice cream. If you are easily chilled though there are hot options! Such a cute spot to sit and chill! We snagged a table during some slower moments that evening. Slowly making my way through this menu ! The shaved ice was soft ! I chose to get both ube and matcha soft serve atop my ice. It's decorated with matcha syrup, mochi, red bean, and (sadly) one chestnut.
google avatar

Khyla L.

Yelp
I love a seasonal/special item on a menu so I went for the Banana Pudding Matcha latte (with oat milk.) There were nice banana chunks in the scoops of banana pudding. The matcha wasn't too sweet or too bitter. The ube crème was a beautiful shade of deep purple and felt like absolute silk; it was so creamy. We also ordered one custard and one Nutella taiyaki, they came out hot and crispy- just delicious!
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
This little place is hotter than fish grease in June! Customers were consistently coming in the door and as a first time patron I now am in the know. They can give you your matcha in many forms from iced, hot, ice cream. I wish there was a comparable location in the Tampa area So if you take a day trip to Orlando be sure to stop by, but be prepared to wait for matcha goodness.
google avatar

Cat T.

Yelp
Their honeycomb matcha latte is so good! Definitely on the sweet side since the honeycomb will melt into your drink as you drink it, but the matcha flavor is strong and prevalent. I love being able to snack on the sweet honeycomb pieces. Refreshing and tasty - great matcha! Will definitely come back!
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Simple, easy service. Small store with limited seating so if it's busy, be prepared to wait outside. I've had the matcha and vanilla swirl soft serve before and it was a good matcha taste balance, not too much or little. I've also ordered iced black sesame espresso latte; if you like black sesame... this is it! I took my time drinking this cuz it was that good. Will be back when I visit again!
google avatar

Susan W.

Yelp
"It's cooler, it's smoother, it's matcha." I typically make my match as at home, but when I saw that they were now offering banana pudding matcha lattes it was a must that I go. I went early on a weekday so luckily it was pretty quiet. I was greeted right away and placed my order. With a couple of minutes I had the goods and was out. It was better than I expected it to be. The hype is definitely real. There are 2 things that I would change. The first would be the option for a bigger size than the 2 they offer and the second would be that the banana be more prevalent , maybe add a little more to the drink. Overall, I am a fan and after righting this, I'm craving one and will be getting one in the morning.
google avatar

Vivian Y.

Yelp
I've never have had a bad experience; their icecream flavors are just SO GOOD!! I always come here during the months they have black sesame and hojicha. I hope they put both of these flavors together for a month bc i would love to try them swirled/together.
