My friend and I got the osmanthus matcha and yuzu matcha! Both drinks were so flavorful and refreshing!! My drink was the osmanthus matcha, which had osmanthus tea with a matcha foam on top. It was the perfect amount of sweetness for me, and I thought the balance of both flavors in the drink were harmonious. My friend got the yuzu matcha, and said that they couldn’t taste the matcha very well, but I thought you could taste it! It’s more gentle tasting in that drink though—the yuzu is more forward than the matcha for sure. I would definitely buy either again, but am looking forward to coming back to try their other drinks! Please note that the only thing customizable so far is the milk. Everyone (including my friend and I) ordered from the kiosk. There are seating spaces with small tables, but when I got there (around 11am), only 1 table was available after someone had left. There might not always be space for you to sit down, so a grab-and-go may be a better option for people who come to visit!

Super yummy matcha spot! Had the ube matcha and it was so good. So flavorful and the matcha tastes high grade. It’s a little chaotic mid day with all the students buzzing about, but def a spot to try if you love matcha!

Google
We were lucky to catch them during the soft opening. We ordered at the kiosk, one ube matcha. They were all one size. You can choose cow milk, oat milk, or almond milk. Vegan milk is $0.50 extra. The drink was served fast and was delicious. Not too sweet. No bitter or tart taste of match. But after finishing the drink, I found that half of the cup was filled with ice. That is quite expensive for a $8 drink. To my pleasure, they kept playing kpop music.

Google
so good!! really exceeded my expectations. My friends and I all got a strawberry matcha and we were all shocked how good it was. I would love if they added a cream top matcha latte!! And please expand to San Jose!

Google
i think there’s room for improvement but overall a great spot. minimal seating inside, but there’s electric plugs. not sure if there was wifi. i got the ube matcha and hojicha latte. the ube matcha was good, well balanced i think, not too sweet. my strife is with the hojicha latte. it was very sweet. the description when you order it at the kiosk didn’t mention it would be sweetened, and with cane sugar at that. i hope in the future they can make the drinks sweet level customizable. currently in the order kiosk, nothing is customizable except for the milk choice. i would have preferred an unsweetened hojicha. also i’d say maple or honey sweetener works best for this tea butttt

This is the best Matcha I’ve ever had. Not overly sweet and hits the spot! My wife loved her strawberry so much she licked her cup clean 😆

Google
Idk how their other drinks are but the banana matcha was more like a smoothie. Thick chunks of banana that I was basically eating, it was weird. Also this is not so much their fault but there were a lot of high schoolers there being obnoxious, taking a long time to order, etc

Genuinely the best mango matcha I’ve ever had! The matcha cream in addition to the matcha compliments the drink so well! :)

Yelp
No fluff review since you're here looking for straight deets: Tried 4 drinks amongst my group, overall positive experience because the drinks weren't too sweet and used good quality matcha. Just look at the dank green color! |Banana Matcha Duo| -- They used smashed bananas as their base layer in the drink, which gives legit banana flavor. Yummy when mixed together with the matcha, but I would've wanted a stronger matcha flavor (I'm someone who wants the dankest matcha flavor) |Peach Matcha Duo| -- Surprisingly REALLY yummy! The peach didn't overpower the matcha. I'd get this again. |Ube Latte| -- Ube wasn't too sweet, was delicious when mixed in with espresso. I'd totally get this again if I wanted a coffee based drink. |Brown Sugar Hojicha Oatmilk Latte| -- amazing, rich, delicious hojicha flavor. If you're a hojicha fan, get this ! I'd forsure come back. Unfortunately this spot is located in that crowded area in Berkeley near campus, however parking "can" be achievable depending on the time you go.

Yelp
ube matcha: $7.50 (4/10) - tasted like milk duo matcha: $7.95 (8/10) - although the taste itself was good and not overly sweet, being that its a "double" matcha, its strength is what you'd expect of a good quality regular matcha. i do wish you could adjust the sweetness to make it a little less sweet but overall not too bad. decent seating for studying/working but REALLY hot inside (at least when i went). it was a windy evening around 6p and as soon as I walked inside it felt like a sauna and i immediately started sweating and we couldn't stay to enjoy the drinks after ordering.

Yelp
One weekday around noon, I had a strong craving for a quick matcha pick me up (like usual). I searched for matcha places near me and, behold, I saw De Matcha! There were very little reviews, and I became curious as the drinks in the photos looked great! --TL:DR/skip the story-- The interior is very spacious with a decent amount of seating indoors. Honestly, the ambience is very open coffee shop, to-go drink vibes. But maybe a good place to stop by for a quick matcha chat! THERE ARE MILK OPTIONS! I got the black sesame matcha latte with oat milk! It tasted good, and I always love the nutty flavor of sesame! The first time I got it, I thought it tasted more milky than matcha-y. And that too, the black sesame overpowered the matcha, so I couldn't taste it as much. Service was great, you order via kiosk and then wait for your order to be called to pick up your drink. Pretty smooth and under 15 mins! Overall, great find! Super close to campus, so may take much longer in peak times (heard up to 30 mins sometimes). Makes my pockets hurt a bit with the price (~$8), but it was worth trying once.

Yelp
Best Matcha I've had in the Bay Area. I ordered the Banana Matcha Duo. The matcha cream top was exceptional! Not too sweet nor bitter. Perfect, creamy consistency. I love that they use real bananas, and the fruit at the bottom of the cup makes the drinking experience even better, in my opinion. So glad I stumbled upon this place in Berkeley. Definitely a must try!

Yelp
Our son brought us drinks from De Matcha in Berkeley, and we were so impressed! We got the Crème Brûlée Café Latte and Pistachio Café Latte, both crafted to perfection -- smooth, creamy, balanced, and full of flavor. Big thanks and shoutout to Kai, the barista, for preparing everything exactly as requested. Both good, just the right sweetness! You can tell they put care and pride into their work. De Matcha is definitely worth checking out if you love quality drinks! Highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
De Matcha (aka Matcha Matcha) opened recently where The Alley once was. Limited seating inside. Ordering done at 2 kiosk at right of counter. Steady flow of patrons. There's a rush at times-classes ended? Menu posted near door at left. Didn't understand some categories. Offerings (Matcha): Ceremonial Matcha, Matcha Refreshers, Hojicha, Japanese snacks Ordered at kiosk. Drinks didn't show any options as to ice level, sugar levels. Nor descriptions of drinks. Ordered. Pd. Got drink in 8 minutes. Sips: Black Sesame Hojicha Latte (7.50) -filled to brim with ice, had no lid, straw not given. Had to return to counter to get lid & straw. -mix was pretty sweet. Black sesame flava nuanced. Overpowered by sweetness? -Hojicha is roasted Japanese green tea. Tasted it near the finish. Didn't Mix drink initially. Didn't know protocol. 4ish stars: maybe worthy if done right. Many reviews cited lack of matcha available or dearth of matcha in drinks. Quantity: ok. Milk aplenty. Quality: unknown how much Hojicha, whole milk, black sesame was present. Repeat maybe.

Yelp
Came to Berkeley and stopped by this new matcha place. This space specializes in matcha and there's a variety of matcha drinks to choose from. Pistachio Matcha Latte (3/5): I had high hopes for this as this was a place that specializes in matcha and I love pistachio flavors. I thought the drink was way too heavy and the pistachio flavor was very light. I even got the drink with oat milk. I would come back here for the hojicia drinks.

Yelp
Was in the Berkeley area and saw this new matcha place opened up. Tried out their hojicha latte and pistachio matcha latte. Hojicha latte was perfectly sweet and nutty. One of the best I had, definitely recommend! I loved it! Pistachio matcha latte was also good but pistachio flavor was overpowering the matcha. Could also have been a little sweeter but that is just my preference. Maybe I'll try the plain matcha latte next time to really taste the matcha flavor. But regardless, a solid matcha place!

Yelp
I ordered the matcha latte. Cute but not that green. I wish I could adjust the sweetness bc it was too sweet.

Yelp
Kinda surprised by the reviews but it seems like this spot rebranded from "Matcha Matcha" to "De Matcha" maybe as a way to improve?? For example the photos shared when it was "Matcha Matcha" seemed like the matcha was dull and opaque, but my matcha was vibrant bright green! We ordered the strawberry as well as the banana duo matcha latte and it matcha was vibrant green and had a strong flavor throughout the drink. My friend had tried Yume matcha around the area and actually preferred this place to it. Downside is that you can't adjust sugar and it's just too sweet. I would personally opt out of the matcha cream as it made the drink WAYYY too thick, it felt more like a dessert than a drink. Lots of space to sit indoors but there's like no AC, so we were dying from the heat. Service was fast as our drinks came out within minutes.

Yelp
My husband and I have been on a matcha kick lately, so we were excited to see de matcha's (rebranded from matcha matcha) soft opening pop up. I got the Matcha Duo and my husband got the Banana Matcha Duo. I'm not necessarily a matcha connoisseur, but I imagine tasting the slight bitterness and grassiness means that they don't skimp on the matcha. I appreciate when my matcha drinks aren't overly milky. My husband really enjoyed his banana matcha duo as well. Would go back to try their other drinks!

Yelp
I tried their Duo Matcha and their Duo Peach Matcha, both with oat milk. While the matcha was good quality, I was quite disappointed in the peach drink because the fruit addition was a chunky puree that completely messed up the consistency and was difficult to drink. If I go back I will be avoiding flavored the matchas. Pros: - quality ceremonial matcha in all lattes - creamy and floral taste - wifi - clean, modern ambiance - yummy looking snack options Cons: - very busy, hot, and loud inside - limited seating - slightly slow service (probably due to crowds) - chunky fruit additions - oat milk only alternative option - non-compostable cups and straws :( - terrible location for parking Based on the drinks I am open to revisiting this place, so I might change my review later if I have a better experience then.

Yelp
This place has great drinks! The matcha is delicious. I got their matcha drink with mango. There's plenty of seating inside as well. The only downside is that you can only order through their kiosk which went down temporarily due to running out of receipt paper when I was there. Also maybe I just had bad luck but they didn't have any AC so it was really hot inside, but I was just getting my drink to go. I would make sure their AC is working if you decide to hang out there. But if you like high quality matcha, their drinks are great!

Yelp
We tried De Matcha in Berkeley today -- my brother brought us their Crème Brûlée Café Latte and Pistachio Café Latte, and they were both amazing! The flavors were smooth, rich, and not overly sweet -- just right. Huge thanks to Kai, the barista, who made both drinks perfectly as requested. You can really taste the care in every cup. Highly recommend this spot! The ambiance as well is very cozy vibes for new tourists and new students as well who's plan to go to UC Berkeley!

Yelp
This is a good matcha place that's super close to campus. The matcha taro has real taro at the bottom and wasn't overly sweet. The matcha kumquat drink was also quite good and refreshing.

Yelp
Berkeley has so many new matcha spots, but please skip this one. Out of all the options, Matcha Matcha has been the worst experience for me and my friends. We came in as a group and tried a variety of items on their menu, hoping to find something good. Since this is supposed to be a specialty matcha store, we expected higher quality. Unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing across the board. The matcha itself was not the vibrant green you would expect but had a dull, yellowish color that immediately signaled lower quality. On top of that, the milk-to-matcha ratio was way off. The drinks were more like flavored milk with a faint hint of matcha rather than the bold, balanced flavor you get from good matcha. We also tried their fruit matcha drinks, including the strawberry and mango options. Both were sour and had an unpleasant acidic aftertaste that lingered. To make things worse, two of my friends actually felt sick after drinking them, which says a lot about the quality and preparation. The portion sizes were another letdown. The cups are small for how expensive the drinks are, making the overall value very poor. When you combine that with the disappointing flavor, strange aftertaste, and questionable quality, it is hard to justify coming here at all. Overall, Matcha Matcha feels overpriced, underwhelming, and poorly executed compared to other matcha spots nearby. If you are looking for good matcha in Berkeley, I recommend checking out one of the many other cafes in the area instead.

Yelp
Convenient new matcha place close to UC Berkeley! I tried the Black Sesame Hojicha which was delicious and I will probably be trying their other hojicha flavors. The prices were a bit high but I think the portion size was decent.

Yelp
Matcha is sooo good! Tried the strawberry matcha with oatmilk the first time and was delicious. But, I tried the banana matcha with oatmilk after and fell in love. Best one hands down!

Yelp
Came here during opening on a Friday morning, and there was already a line!! I love how this cafe specializes in matcha and hojicha, but they didn't compromise on having an extensive menu for different fruit flavors and snacks. The interior was inviting and spacious, and a lot of people were there to study. The matcha itself was delicious, but I don't think it was as strong as it looked. There's definitely no parking around, so be prepared for a short walk and possibly long line.

Shin W.

Yelp
I'm in love with De Matcha! Their Matcha Duo is seriously one of the best drinks I've had, smooth, creamy, and can really taste the high-quality matcha. It's not too sweet, just perfectly balanced. The store vibe is super chill too. Definitely a must-try for matcha lovers!
google avatar

Krista V.

Yelp
I found their matcha to be quite bitter thats the prominent note I tasted. I enjoyed the sesame cream it added a toasty nutty element to the drink. There is limited seating, wait time was not long. I would give it another try but it wasn't anything special. I wish their matcha quality was better, I dont think they whisk the matcha freshly. They seem to prepare by bottle.
google avatar

Pedro M.

Yelp
Matcha was very watered down which would typically be fine but their specialty is matcha so it's a shame to fail at the very thing you're trying to specialize in. Service was slow due to how packed it is which may contribute to their subpar matcha . This spot only feeds the over saturation of the boba market in berkeley and does not offer anything special to really set them apart, especially since binge coffee has better matcha

Yelp
i've visited de matcha about 4-5 times since their soft opening and every time, i order about 5-6 drinks each visit. i don't know what's going on with the quality but it seems to be plummeting quick and way too soon from their opening. super disappointed that my cup is 98% milk. hopefully this is just a mistake n my next visit will be better. if not, it'll be my last.

Eric B.

Yelp
I wish I could've liked my drink which was a red bean matcha latte. I was already disappointed that adjustments to the drink are incredibly limited and didn't allow for lowering the sweetness of the drink. The matcha mix seems to come from a squeeze bottle, much of it settling at the bottom. The color is actually quite nice -- a deep green. After thoroughly mixing the matcha with the milk, I had difficulty finding the matcha's influence in the drink. The drink was, as I can describe it, sweet milk with a fleeting grassiness of matcha that was much too faint to cling onto and appreciate for even a second. The red bean, however, was actually a nice smooth paste that I enjoyed and was the saving grace for this drink. In closing, this spot is not for the customer that wants a well-defined matcha flavor from their drink.

Yelp
How do you emphasize "de matcha" in the name and promote your matcha drinks on social media, yet at 10:30am you have signage posted that state out of ALL matcha drinks. Unfortunately no drink review as it's a pass for me

angela g.

Yelp
ample seating very quick service my friend and i loveddd the matcha duo latte, perfect amount of cream and matcha we would def go back to try its variety of matcha drinks like strawberry, ube, banana, mango and tiramisu!

Nicole J.

Yelp
I got the banana hojicha and osmanthus matcha green tea. They were both really delicious. I also liked that they weren't super sweet.

Veronica P.

Yelp
My sister and I loved the matcha. We are not from the area so we drove pretty far but was worth it. Good matcha.

Jillian W.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place, and it was super cute inside. Unfortunately, the matcha was one of the worst I have had. You can't adjust the sweetness levels and both the matcha latte and matcha with coconut water tasted like straight cane sugar; I could not drink it. The service was really great though and the staff was very nice.

Minhaaj K.

Yelp
If this place can get consistent on the sweetness of their drinks, it's easily one of the top Matcha places in the Bay Area. My hands down favorite is the Matcha Duo, the matcha really comes through! I have had it a half dozen times and sweetness was perfect 5 out of 6 times. I do have to say, the real/best Matcha spots in California can do matcha with no sugar, that's unfortunately not something they can do today so when I'm not up for the sugar, have to head to the other delicious matcha place around the corner. It's great to live in Berkeley!

Chloflee A.

Yelp
Their matcha latte is really good. If you like the lattes at Cafe Maikos you'll probably like these. The flavor is strong and not watered down or milky.

Doaa A.

Yelp
great matcha, love the warabimochi, lots of mosquitoes. if this location is cleaned up and made hospitable, it would go a long way. there's a lot of potential and a lot of mosquitoes.
