Yelp
Berkeley has so many new matcha spots, but please skip this one. Out of all the options, Matcha Matcha has been the worst experience for me and my friends. We came in as a group and tried a variety of items on their menu, hoping to find something good. Since this is supposed to be a specialty matcha store, we expected higher quality. Unfortunately, the drinks were disappointing across the board. The matcha itself was not the vibrant green you would expect but had a dull, yellowish color that immediately signaled lower quality. On top of that, the milk-to-matcha ratio was way off. The drinks were more like flavored milk with a faint hint of matcha rather than the bold, balanced flavor you get from good matcha.
We also tried their fruit matcha drinks, including the strawberry and mango options. Both were sour and had an unpleasant acidic aftertaste that lingered. To make things worse, two of my friends actually felt sick after drinking them, which says a lot about the quality and preparation. The portion sizes were another letdown. The cups are small for how expensive the drinks are, making the overall value very poor. When you combine that with the disappointing flavor, strange aftertaste, and questionable quality, it is hard to justify coming here at all.
Overall, Matcha Matcha feels overpriced, underwhelming, and poorly executed compared to other matcha spots nearby. If you are looking for good matcha in Berkeley, I recommend checking out one of the many other cafes in the area instead.
