Yum Yum Brings Juicy Soup Dumplings to Montreal’s Plateau | Eater Montreal

"At 220 Rachel E, this matcha café takes its green tea pretty seriously — laptops are not welcome and it doesn’t serve take-out cups, the premise being that you’re really there for the matcha; it also doubles as an art gallery." - Tim Forster

Very cute place, the owner is super friendly, tentative and considerate. He welcomed us with such warmth. The drink size is huge for the price. Totally worth it, the experience was great

I had the Avocado-matcha smoothie (only served cold) that was amazing! It was served with dates and cranberries. The place is super cute and the owner is nice and friendly. Price is insanely respectable. Students beware, you can’t bring ur laptop here or study. Definitely recommend and would go back!

My boyfriend and I were here in Montreal for a dragon boat race two weeks ago. I found this place from a recommendation and was determined to try out the matcha drinks! We got the iron matcha and hojicha choco and they both did not disappoint the slightest bit. The decorations were lovely and cozy (he also has beautiful paintings). Nestor was so kind and nice and friendly and you could tell how passionate he was in curating the best and most healthy drinks for his customers, getting the best ingredients from all over the world. During our chit chat he even offered some delightful snacks (best date with cashew ive ever had!!) and mini drinks of cermonial matcha and jasmine tea (also the most fragrant and delicious jasmine tea ive had). It was a great experience and we promise to come back if we ever visited Montreal again. Or let us know if you ever open a place in Vancouver haha!

Amazing drink, good vibes, and good view. I talked with the owner. He is really passionate about what he is doing, and his knowledge about teas in general and matcha in particular is wide, so he could have the best option for the customer. I highly recommend the Jasmatcha if you love a drink that is not sweet and has a light scent of jasmine.

We have been to many cafés and tea houses in Montreal, but this is our all-time favourite teahouse for matcha. Nestor is a master of his craft, and his knowledge of tea truly inspires us to learn more about the art of tea-making. We especially enjoy the iron matcha and order it on every visit. That said, there are many options to choose from—ranging from traditional serving styles to more refreshing and creative blends. We always leave feeling recharged and refreshed, and we learn a new fun fact about tea with each visit.

On our endless search for the finest matcha, we took a delightful chance on a mysterious, intimate tea room. They quickly exceeded our expectations, showcasing an impressive selection of organic matcha and a variety of enchanting Japanese and Taiwanese teas. What makes this tea room unique is its dedication to matcha drinks—not the traditional lattes you often come across, but rather thoughtfully crafted beverages that celebrate the rich flavors and qualities of matcha in their purest forms. We were particularly taken with the presentation; our drinks were served in sleek glass bottles to go. We decided to try the Ironmatcha, infused with the warming essence of cardamom, which created a bold yet comforting flavor profile. The Jasminematcha was equally captivating, as fragrant as it was delicious, highlighting the delicate notes of jasmine. We were pleasantly surprised by the pumpkin seed milk, which was just incredible. Its earthy, nutty flavor paired harmoniously with our matcha selections. Additionally, the tea room featured a charming boutique with an array of tea-related items, from exquisite tea sets to premium matcha tools, allowing visitors to take a piece of their experience home. Interestingly, this place doesn’t seem to engage with social media, as we discovered a humorous sign stating "no TikToks" inside! It only added to the authenticity and allure. It’s clear that the focus here is on creating a genuine and intimate experience rather than cheap marketing. Our visit was a delightful adventure, and we couldn't resist sharing the wonderful experience we had. This tea room is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates the artistry of matcha and the tranquility of a serene tea experience. 🎋🍵✨

I was visiting Montreal and decided to pass by. The place looks good but the customer service it is not too friendly. I did not know they don’t use plastic glasses and when I asked about it the person at the front desk got mad at me making me feel like a bad and stupid person because I just made the question. The drink was fine but I prefer a place where I feel welcomed or at least they explain their concept better.

Google
Love the tasting menu. It’s best to come when you’re thirsty because it’ll fill your stomach up. Relaxing space, spend your time to chill while waiting for him to make the ceremonial matcha is the best. The dates with the avocado mix is absolutely a wonderful combo with the bitter drinks. We had to buy a box of dates to eat at home with his mixture of the avocado thingy because we were so addicted to it. Definitely coming back to try the rest and buy some more dates with that avocado mix (still don’t know what to call it. House sauce?)

Yelp
This such a cozy little spot in montreal that wasn't what we expected. The shop is run by one person and he was accommodating and welcoming when we came in. They have a small menu with varying flavors of drinks. It isn't the typical matcha drinks you would expect but it is still a unique experience. We got two sets of the tasting menu to share so we got to try the whole menu. Overall, this wasn't my preference in taste. We had a hard time tasting the matcha and hojicha in the drinks as the additional ingredients overpowered the taste. Some ingredients I remember are banana, lemonade, avocado, chai, and pumpkin. I think it was because we came here with the expectation of a more traditional matcha that this threw us off. I got their standard matcha latte separately and that had just the basic ingredients but since they use pumpkin milk(?) the drink was a bit grainy and didn't have a strong matcha taste.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting much out of this 1-person run Matcha Shop as someone from a country where green tea is a way bigger deal comparing to Canada. Service is top notch (genuinely) and the atmosphere is calm and soothing. I will recommend to all my friends and any tea lover~

Yelp
Lovely spot to drop in for some tea! The owner is so friendly and knowledgeable and shared lots of backstory about his health based focus on the tea. We tried a matcha flight and ordered a full size warm drink after the sampler (chai matcha). All in all a perfect activity for a cold day.

Yelp
Some of the best matcha I've ever had. Had a nice chat with the owner about his preparations. If I lived here this would be a regular stop for me. Smooth and delicious and not too sweet. Tried a cold matcha and loved it. So refreshing. Highly recommend.

Yelp
A new place on the plateau. This place serves mostly tea and at the moment because it is new there are less products in terms of sweets to choose from but that probably will change. You can also buy bags of tea to go. I chose the matcha latte. You get to choose from three different types of plant-based milk. I chose cashew milk and it was really good. They add a little bit of sweetener with your permission. And there's definitely a hint of cardamom in the latte. It is very comforting. They have a lot of tea. You can tell that the owner is very knowledgable about the tea. He will explain everything to you, including the process of how the tea is made. They don't have any coffee products from what I saw. But the main focus is definitely the tea. He was very sweet and gave us a sample of hojicha upon entering. When we arrived there was a Japanese tea ceremony (matcha) happening. The person hosting the tea ceremony was wearing a traditional Japanese kimono. She was very friendly. It seems like they host different tea ceremonies and workshops in addition to having tea for sale and brewing it for you. it's a small place but there are definitely places to sit. It's cozy. I think it would make a great place to study or do work. It is also good for tea dates. I am excited to see this place grow.

Yelp
This cozy matcha bar is quite special, the matchas are premium quality from Japan and the owner is really knowledgeable and passionate. His delicious matcha smoothies are brimming with flavor, my favorite is the hochija and orange scented one - they are all made with organic ingredients, sweetened with dates. The bar seems to be entirely plant based or vegan or at least for the most part. I purchased the matcha along with the chasen (matcha whisk) and the owner even threw in some dried mulberries for free.

Yelp
Fresh, bright and creative. They have some pretty unique blends of teas including fruity, more traditional and/or from the continent of Asia --- plus you may imagine their name says something about their focus. The space appears to also be bright, light and airy. They have a lot of tea blending experience and on that level would be a five on five. The prices are a little higher than some, but I'd say it has to do with the cost of Matcha which is not nearly on par with Orange Pekoe (not saying anything against basic teas, but there surely is a range of cost, taste and quality). I would need to swing round another time to experience their range of beverages and vibe more fully. For a quick passer-by I just wanted to mention this spot is worthy of a pop-in, especially of you are a tea lover.

Yelp
Wow! I am a matcha fanatic and this place blew my mind. The passion from the owner was just the cherry on top. He was so accommodating and kind and had a passion for matcha like no other. He allows you to try all the drinks he has available and then takes your order. Overall, new fave place and love supporting local!
