Matchbox Pizza Opens Silver Spring Location With Giant Meatballs | Eater DC

"A lease was inked for a Fairfax County Matchbox at 1900 Reston Metro Plaza Drive, slated to open in early 2020; I was told the 5,500-square-foot space will include an expansive patio steps from the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station." - Tierney Plumb

Being new to the Reston area, I’m not very familiar with too many restaurants. I am SO happy I was introduced to Matchbox! Each dish was packed full of flavor, and the portion sizes were just right! Our waiter David was absolutely AMAZING! He was extremely attentive, friendly, and provided us with excellent recommendations! I’d love for him to be my waiter when I return because I’ll most definitely be coming back to Matchbox!

Great service from Janet, she is friendly and made our experience memorable. Valentina did excellent as a server and kept us satisfied with the food. Thomas was also very friendly and attentive. . The food was real good and big portions. Thank you Janet!!!!

I was staying at the JW Marriott for my birthday and, being from MD, I dine at Matchbox pretty often! This is one of the best brunches with a great variety of food and generous sizes! Most places usually skimp on the quality of food when making it in "batches" but that has never been the case at this restaurant. Service was amazing, and we were checked on by everyone and not just our server...which is big for me as it definitely gives a "family" vibe. I was extremely sad to hear that that was their last day as I was already planning a return staycation in the Reston area and was going to add this restaurant into my dining rotation. Thankfully there are still a few locations in MD that I can still visit, but to anyone that is looking for a great brunch with food that even the pickiest of eaters would love, please visit Matchbox!

Google
The food was good I didn’t like the grits bc it was cooked properly n the peach mimosa tasted like beer. The manager came over and explained that she was getting things right at this location she only been there for 3 days. The strawberry lemon drops were good the blueberry lemon pancakes were delicious omg tasty. The hot and sweet pizza was also delicious we will definitely be back. We also had an amazing waitress

Awesome food, relaxing atmosphere, and good music. David is an excellent server, very attentive and easy going.

Google
I had a great experience at Matchbox in Reston! Our waitress, Christina, was awesome super friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The manager, Janet, also stopped by to check in on us, which really added a personal touch. The service overall was excellent, and the food came out fast and fresh. We’ll definitely be coming back! Highly recommend this location!

Google
I don't typically leave reviews, but I had lunch with a friend at Matchbox in Reston this month in December. It was a good dining experience. My server Christian did an excellent job, she made sure we liked our food and our drinks were refilled. They do a nice job with the food and I love the arancini here, so I want to thank the people cooking in the kitchen too. I appreciate the level of customer service you provide, Christian and thank you to the kitchen staff at Matchbox in Reston too!

Google
It was rather early when we came for dinner, before 6pm so it was not busy at all. Yet we waited a bit for drinks and food to come. The spin dip came only minutes before the entrees and wasn’t hot anymore so this suggests it was waiting to be grabbed.. refilling water took a long time. However the worst was the fish and chips. The fish was not fresh. We had to wait until the server came to check in which was not immediate, and then after a long wait we were able to exchange the entree and take most of it home. For the price point, an experience like this nearly drives you to other places in the vicinity. The cocktails were great and so was the pizza; the restaurant feels warm and cozy. So I can only recommend this place for drinks and pizza.

Yelp
Me and my family went here for a Sunday brunch and it was amazing. The price is only $49 per person for a family style set up and you can order anything off of the menu and it also includes a taco station, a carving station, as well as an ice cream bar, in addition to popcorn and unlimited cotton candy. And for just eight dollars, you can add a cocktail which my favorite is the strawberry lemon drop. The best thing is not only is the food fresh and it comes out in great time, but there is also a DJ to keep the vibes going while you enjoy your meal.

Yelp
Wow used to be quiet metro corner - not anymore! There was an outdoor concert, private event and Matchbox patio was hopping! Now for the actual dining experience, so subpar. Pizza was cold, salad drenched in dressing. Only highlight, drinks were good. Service was friendly but so slooow. Sadly would not recommend this location unless you're going just for the vibe.

Nachogirl1 ..

Yelp
Nachos: Warm. Hearty and warm. Not bad. Just nowhere near its highest potential. Chili nachos is actually an incredible idea. I like beans with chips. I don't know what kind of jalapeños these are but they're everywhere and it's alarming. I could've sworn jalapeños were smaller. These ones are so big I wonder if they're genetically modified. That would make me sad. All else: my coworkers wanted to go to Top Golf but mama a storm was brewing. Thank God though. Well, minus the fear of climate change fueling brutal rainstorms. Anyway I've never played Golf nor do I look like someone who'd be good at golf. I was manifesting pizza and nachos and Mother Nature (the Russians who control the weather) heard me. Wrong higher entity, but somebody heard me and granted my wish. Waitress was sweet. Restaurant was hot, as if they had the heating on.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a while. The staff was friendly, and the restaurant itself was clean and nicely set up. There's a full bar with every thing you can imagine. But when it came to the food--I've definitely had better. We ordered the crab cake sandwich (hubs initially had the hot chicken - but it was too hot!) with fries, but the sandwich had too much going on, especially with the arugula, and the crab cake didn't really have that true "lump" texture I was looking for. It also fell apart after just one bite. They did have an extensive brunch menu, but at $45 per person, it didn't seem worth it for us since we don't eat as much anymore and would've only tried one dish each. We're not sure if we'll go back, but maybe we'll give it another shot down the line. The complimentary cotton candy was a bit though!!!

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times and the last time will be my last. What was once an Ok concept has dwindled into just a disappointing experience. Service is lazy, portions are weak, and the prices are ridiculously overpriced.

Yelp
I visited Matchbox in Reston with my book club and it was okay. The restaurant was pretty empty but the service was super slow. The restaurant had already closed and we still had to get someone's attention to get our checks. We shared some of the honey butter biscuits, I would highly recommend them they were delicious. I got the Cajun chicken fettuccine and the portion size was huge, I had lunch for the next day. It was really tasty too, it had so much flavor. The location is at Reston Station, so the parking situation is a bit complicated. They might have parking validation but they were closed when we left so I wasn't able to check.

Yelp
5 stars for the service; very friendly and helpful, 2.5 stars for the food and drinks. Unfortunately, the food was a bit below average for the price point. I ordered a cocktail at the bar; $14 for Jim beam a ton of ice and it was pretty sour. Just didn't seem worth it to me. Again, service was kind. We had a big party, and I really want to commend the waitstaff for managing everything so well! The peach lemonade was very sour and only had a hint of peach in it. Artichoke and spinach dip portion is pretty small, but the logistics of cutting the bruleed mozz top with a spoon was not easy. The dip and bread were fine. Arancini was decent; crispy outside, inside was a fine risotto texture, tomato sauce was chunky. Scallops were cooked ok, but the sauce was deeply overpowering. Sour; which felt like it was from a strong white wine. The sauce/mashed potatoes were one and the same so I tried to use my fork to separate the corn and bits from the sauce.

Yelp
One of the poorest customer service displays I have ever seen. The manager is rude and curt and disappears for very very long periods of time .....hmmmmm. Drinks took 15-20 minutes to arrive. It appears to be a management issue. Poor leadership. Will we be back? Not unless more than a few people move to other restaurants. The only bright spot is David, one of the bar tenders. The management holds him back though........

Yelp
This was hands down the worst brunch experience I've ever had. While I know it was Mother's Day this became laughable. We checked in a few minutes early for our reservation - or at least tried to. It took nearly 10 minutes for the hostess to come back to take our name. Then another 5-10 minutes for the same employee to bus the empty tables so we could be seated. Our waitress stopped by after a few minutes to take our drink order and tell us she'd be bringing out biscuits for us to enjoy while we looked at the menu. It was another 10 minutes for her to return - without biscuits as 'the kitchen was backed up' (spoiler, we NEVER got any biscuits). We ordered and then spent the next 40 minutes waiting for food. 40 minutes later, the waitress brought us a dish we hadn't ordered, saying the manager thought we might like to enjoy it while we were waiting for our food. What? How did the kitchen have time to cook something we DIDN'T order, instead of what we did? Another 10 minutes later we got part of what we ordered, but without any syrup or requested salt & pepper. That took - you guessed it - another 10 minutes, and arrived with our last item. It was an hour since we'd ordered. I was unable to have a coffee because they didn't have the machine we were told. My mom's second mimosa was missing orange juice. The breakfast sandwich we ordered looked like a smash burger - the brioche had been flattened, and the over-medium egg was beyond over-hard. They did end up comping our whole bill, which was something. But what I'd really wanted was a nice Mother's Day brunch. They didn't even come close to hitting that mark. The only upside was that we had patio seats, as the seats indoors would've been worse with the volume the DJ had the music up to. Not sure I'd give this Matchbox a second look. To top it all off - there was NO soap in the bathroom (just a sign reminding staff to wash their hands). Yuck! Hope they had soap in the kitchen.

Yelp
Nice place, good service, good food. Prices are a bit scary, but we stuck the happy hour menu, so it was decently affordable(ish). Can't do this every day - or even every week - but maybe on a payday we can stop in here after work.

Jorge C.

Yelp
Oh my goodness. This Matchbox has nose-dived in the quality of the food. It's nothing like it was when first started or even just a few months ago. We've been coming here for over three years, so we've seen the downward trend over time. The portions have shrunk but the prices have not gone down with them! The freshness is also gone. This might be our last time here.

Yelp
Good place if you feel the need to be ignored by staff. (10 mins sitting, about 5 minutes joking about being invisible by / with adjacent patrons, another 5-6 looking at google maps for somewhere else to go...then left, did get apologies from the other patrons, wished me luck).

Gaylord F.

Yelp
Service was AWFUL today. Food took over 45 min to come out. Sat at the bar watching other patrons come in and leave due to no service at tables and bar. We sat with empty drinks and no explanation for the delay in service. The table behind us waited over an hour for food and ended up just walking out. Just absolutely awful service. The place wasn't busy either. When our food did arrive, my fries were cold and they weren't old bay fries like I ordered. Will never return.

Yelp
We finally got to this Matchbox...wanted to go sooner but, so many restaurants, so little time. In the past, we've been to other Matchbox restaurants including the Mosaic District, One Loudoun and the one in the Eastern Market area. In all of them, service was consistently good. This one in Reston also was good. One thing we liked about the Reston location was that the tables were better spaced than the others. For example, the Mosaic location was like eating in a restaurant in Manhattan. We were so close to a couple sitting next to us that we ended up engaging them in conversation. So...I give kudos to those who designed the one in Reston. We were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. and the place was dead. No one was even sitting outside despite there being a large dining area that included its own separate bar. Inside, we saw one person sitting at the indoor bar. At the host station, a woman came by promptly and asked if we wanted to sit at a high top table or a regular one. We chose a regular table. She took us to an area and said to choose the spot we wanted. Our choice was a 4 top table which gave us room to spread out. I have to admit that at all the Matchbox restaurants, we end up getting the same thing --- 6 sliders cooked "pink" (as they put it) with American cheese. Plus we get a small Margherita pizza. Much as their entrees sound good, we can't resist the sliders and we know having the sliders and a main course would be too much food. Our server was prompt in getting to us. He was friendly and efficient. To drink, I had a watermelon lemonade while my husband had a lite beer. We gave our server our entire order at once. The drinks came out quickly. The watermelon lemonade didn't have much watermelon flavor, which is to be expected as the lemon flavoring is the more dominant of the two. Still it was a refreshing drink, sweet but not too sweet. One thing I have to ding them on --- both the sliders and the pizza came to the table at the same time. On other visits to different locations, the sliders always came first, then followed by the pizza. As always, the sliders were really good---juicy and flavorful. The pile of onion strings on top didn't disappoint as they were crispy and fried perfectly. The Margherita pizza looked more like a cheese pizza as we saw very little of the basil and there were no fresh tomatoes on it. In the end, the pizza tasted just fine so no complaints. We noticed that the place does a good takeout business as we saw kitchen staff more than once bring bags to the front of the place. Eventually, another couple was seated in our section. Perhaps it gets busier as the evening progresses. Definitely, we will return. If you park in "garage X", be sure to park in one of the reserved spots (which you will see after entering the garage). Hang on to your parking ticket and before you leave the restaurant, the person at the host station will validate it.

Yelp
Food is not what's advertised on Facebook! Very basic waffles and eggs and bacon for $42.00...taco bar with cold tortillas which was worst than Taco Bell not worth the money will go to Founding Farmers across the center next time!!!!

Yelp
Easily some of the worst service I have ever experienced. Just wanted to grab a beer. Sat outside for a while no one showed up. Ok. Went inside and stood at the bar. No one bothered to chat with me. They all saw me and even made eye contact. Mind you it's Sunday afternoon and there were almost no people there. Simply poor management.

Yelp
We had a great time with our mid-day early dinner thanks to Dejuana (I hope that's her name). She was very knowledgeable of the menu and very kind to our party (4 moms, 1 baby, 3 toddlers). I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was good. It's not my typical food order but i definitely ate the entire thing so... it did not disappoint.
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
To Brian, the GM: Thanks for your response. I definitely intend to try again. The toppings were delicious so I'm hoping it was a fluke.

Yelp
Made a reservation for an early dinner for 4 on a Saturday night at 5:30. It was pretty empty, so no problem seating us right away. Our waiter was friendly and attentive, and came out with drinks quickly. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip, the ginormous meatball and my son had a cup of cream of crab. The artichoke dip and fresh made chips were very good. My son enjoyed his soup. The meatball was just ok. It was a little spicy (not in the description) and had WAY too much garlic. It was also served with a large flat garlic bread. For dinner my daughter had the cheese pizza. I've always known matchbox for their pizza but she described it as "mid" (teenage speak for nothing special). My son has the chicken fettuccine and enjoyed it but he'll eat anything. Husband had the chimichurri steak frites. His review: "Good sauce but meat was dry and in pieces rather than whole steak which was not stated on menu and underwhelming." I ordered the crab cakes. The only plus was that there was no filler. The seasoning was overwhelming and took away from the taste of the crab itself. My biggest critique is the menu. It seems like the types of dishes are all over the place...is it seafood? Italian? American? I feel like they should do a few dishes well instead of many just ok. Not sure we would come back, other places to get better meals.

Adam Y.

Yelp
Routinely go to happy hour at this establishment. Usually the service is decent, but the ordering process is always flawed.. wrong order, order not taken correctly or mixup in the kitchen .... Thompson restaurants owns this facility and when attempting to use a gift card using the QR code (on the card itself,) it came up as invalid, forcing us to call the restaurant to place the order . But that's the thing, we've tried calling over five times in the last hour and no one is picking up. This place is going down hill.
google avatar

Yelp
Msg to the mgmt and owners. Arrived for Sunday brunch and watched the staff walk by us 10+ times b4 asking the drink order. No real greeting or smile. Pls get them some help. I'm still waiting 15mins to put on n my order.
google avatar

Yelp
Mixed bag. I had lunch at Matchbox Thursday May 23 and service was fine. Not a lot of customers. Friday, May 24, evening: Sat at the bar and it took *forever* to get service. Plus the bartender missed my food order the first time, leading to a delay. Granted, it was super hard to hear as there was a band playing that night and Matchbox may have been short staffed at the time. Plus, I requested ketchup for my fries and *never* got it.
google avatar

Yelp
I just want to tell you David made my dayyyyyyyyyyy! I have been to Matchbox a lot. This by far is the BEST experience I have ever had. David went above and beyond in anticipating our needs. 10 out of 10! He has that special thing. I will be back to see him next week!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Reservation was set for 330 but they said they couldn't seat us till 4. Then they told us they were no longer serving Brunch. All of this on Mother's day. We and several others left.
google avatar

Trendy D.

Yelp
I came here on a date night. Nothing crazy, a Thursday night at the bar seated area. It wasn't super busy. The service was quick, pizza tasted fresh and good, drinks were good. I have no complaints! I'd come back!

Vincent C.

Yelp
Delicious. Most people go with the brick oven pizza, a variety to choose from. Scallops with mushrooms and cream of corn was well executed. Cocktails also done well. No complaints here.

Kevin B.

Yelp
They should tell you before you place the order that they use Doordash for delivery. Then you'll know that 1, the driver won't pick up the order until it's been sitting there getting cold for half an hour, 2, the driver will take your dinner for a ride all over half the county before heading to your house, and 3, the driver will put your dinner on your porch and drive off without so much as pushing the little button that would ring your doorbell, so your dinner sits outside and gets cold until you go looking around for it. When you finally get your cold pizza, preheat your oven, and heat it up again, it immediately becomes apparent that the chefs at Matchbox have never eaten pizza before. They must have just seen pictures, because it really does look great. But the sauce they put on there has no business being on a pizza. It would be great with tortilla chips, but it contains way too much hot pepper to be considered a pizza sauce. Oh well, as they say, live and learn. This was our first and last order from Matchbox.
google avatar

Yelp
Just not good. I've been to the Matchbox in Merrifield, and I loved it. This one just doesn't meet the same standards. We came around 10:30 am on a Sunday morning with my husband and his family, a total of 6 people. When we first got there, it was still fairly early and maybe a table or 2. They asked if we has reservations, which I always laugh a little when it's that empty. Luckily they were able to seat us right away even though we did not have reservations. We opted to sit outside as my in laws are still a little cautious about covid. We ended up having to move tables to one under the covering (still outside) because it started raining a little. They waiter was friendly and took our orders. The food took a LONG time for a place being so empty. It was surprising and a little annoying. When the food came out, it was eh. Very lackluster compares to the Merrifield location. I did the brunch deal and got the spinach and artichoke dip along with the all American breakfast. The spinach dip was okay, needed some salt and was a little bland. It was a full portion though. The American breakfast was eh. I had asked for over easy eggs, they gave me over hard. It took so long for the food to come out, I didn't want to risk having to wait even longer for corrected food. It's the little things and details that make the meal great. They took so long to bring things out. My mother in law ordered tea and they forgot to ask what kind of tea. Had to come back and get her choice, then when she asked for more cream, that took a ridiculously long time to come out. We parked in the garage but they made no mention of validating our parking or asking where we parked, so we had to pay for that as well when we finally realized. When we sat at our first table and asked to move when it started raining, the waiter told us they knew there was a 100% chance of rain in the forecast and that's why they hadn't even bother setting up outside. Uh okay, then why didn't you seat us at a table under the covering to begin with? Hopefully they train the staff a little bit better to make it a more enjoyable experience

For M.

Yelp
Food is good but service needs to be better. This is right next to our office and my colleagues dread going there for lunch as we need at least an hour and half to get served.

Yelp
We're so happy Matchbox finally opened! The outside seating area is large and can accommodate big parties easily. It's covered just in case it rains too! Great music and tons of bar seating. We ordered the double pepperoni and it was so tasty! Perfectly crispy crust! I added mushrooms and arugula. I loved the white balsamic dressing on the salads, which were fluffy with greens and has the perfect amount of Parmesan! We will be back!
google avatar

Jade W.

Yelp
Every time I've gone here, they had live acoustic music. Once on a Saturday night and once Sunday brunch. Brunch was good, we bottomless Mimosas. It was self serve for the first few flutes. They brought a bottle of champagne and your choice of juice. We had a good time. The food was delicious too. Recommend the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich with the egg salad spread, so good and I'll definitely be coming back for it! I would give this biz a 5 star if it weren't for the bad service. Our waiter forgot us a few times, didn't put in our drink orders and I ended up getting our mimosas from the bar after the self serve bottle. The manager came to check on us, we told him we've been waiting for drinks. He went looking for the server. It took awhile for the server to come back, he thought the manager brought the drinks out. We waited for both of them, neither brought back the drinks so after going to the restroom and seeing our drinks on the bar, I just grabbed them.

Yelp
I like Matchbox but this location didn't offer the same experience. Maybe being newly opened they were still working out the kinks? Not sure. Service was slow and inattentive and the food was mediocre, I won't return to the Reston location.

Asian C.

Yelp
Service was good, our waitress was friendly and attentive. Food is not that great. We ordered the mini burgers and the buns were stale and hard. The burgers lacked flavor. The onions were just for presentation and didnt add anything to the dish.

Arlene S.

Yelp
The drinks are overpriced and the portion smaller than the other restaurants in the plaza. I was bringing our employees downstairs for drinks, until I noticed (and they complained) that the drinks are smaller (example: glass of wine was reduced to 5 oz). The service is always friendly and the restaurant has a nice outdoor patio.

Ryan J.

Yelp
De'Yuana was amazing tonight! had great energy and great service. she'll treat you great
google avatar

Charles A.

Yelp
Food is hit or miss and service is friendly, but the kitchen is very slow. Monday lunch at 11:30 with 4 of us and maybe 1 other table in the restaurant: it took about 30 minutes to bring a chicken avocado sandwich, plain crab cake sandwich, the poke bowl, and a side of fries to the table. No take out orders to note. As for the food, crab cake was solid, the fries were okay, and the tuna poke was good. Chicken avo sandwich was stacked a bit high and the chicken didn't want to stay in the bun. The chicken was also on the dryer side but not bad...they were close. Overall I would skip here for lunch in the future, but I'll probably be back to give them another shot. I'm told happy hour and dinner service is faster.
google avatar

Daniela D.

Yelp
Went here with a few friends and it was awesome! Pretty quiet and only a few other tables. The waitress was a little bit slow but that didn't bother us too much. We all opted for the boozy bundle which was great. I had the chimichurri steak, tuna tartare tacos, and tasted the garlic pizza bread. It was all pretty good. No complaints food-wise. Definitely liked the tacos and garlic bread the most! Would go back again.
google avatar

Yelp
The management and crew are very friendly, informative, and helpful and the decor was very homey. The salad and Ice tea that I had was very delicious. It was not very crowded at all. My 2 awesome friends and I sat at a tall table next to the window that was well-maintained, organized, and taken care of.

Shawn D.

Yelp
great spot! Asked if they planned to have USA vs COLUMBIA game on . The manager could not have been kinder! He went out his way to make it happen! Food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. Waiters, staff, all were extremely hospitable. Going back on Tuesday!! THANK YOU!!

Denise F.

Yelp
I hosted a private party for 25 people for my son's 16th birthday and the experience was great! The service was A+. I would recommend Rick and Harris any day of the week! Great experience in the private room.
google avatar

Beheshta B.

Yelp
My girls took me here as a surprise birthday dinner and OMG it's absolutely stunning inside!!! The food was magnificent and the service was outstanding!! We ordered a bunch off dishes to share and nothing disappointed!! I have also been back since for their brunch and again great food and great service and greatttt atmosphere. I love that they opened up in Reston and would highly recommend to check them out. As for myself, I'll be back very soon for more!!

Jezhra S.

Yelp
Food was great but service was subpar. I loved their chicken sandwich (do yourself a solid & get it Nashville hot) and do not, I repeat do not skip the donuts! Hint: you get a free order when you check in ;) I'm not sure if overall service is bad or maybe our server was just having an off day. Nevertheless, it made for an unpleasant brunch experience. We were sat on a crumb-filled table, granted it looked like it had been wiped but with a dirty towel. When we'd flagged our server down to get his attention, he did not walk towards our table rather he yelled across the room that prompted a back-forth yelling match lol. I'd understand if the restaurant was busy but nope, there were empty tables all around us. Guess he couldn't be bothered to take a couple extra steps to communicate with us. Not only was our server inattentive, he also forgot to bring our drinks that we'd waited on for so long that we decided to serve ourselves & grab the drinks from the bar instead. We were so annoyed by our server's lack of customer service that we vowed never to return again. The donuts were so good though that I may come back & just order take out.

Yelp
I stopped by for a drink and was pleasantly surprised by the positive attitude, service and attention to detail by the bartender, Lexi. She made my day. If thinking about a place to grab a drink or food, you must stop by Matchbox, and ask for Lexi.

Yelp
Maybe I caught this place at the wrong time. Usually enjoy Matchbox. Been to 4-5 other locations. But, my wife and I stopped for lunch the weekend before Christmas, while out shopping and although mostly empty, the food was mediocre, the service was mediocre, and the ambiance was dull. Looks like they have a nice outdoor bar that could be fun in spring and summer....

Yelp
The Hangover Burrito is my new fave! This location is not busy but the service is slow. On Sundays there is live music. Today we enjoyed Kenny Sway.

Yelp
Ate outside under the bar roof so we could enjoy the light wind and rain that fell fir about a half hour. Our cocktail drinks were served in sturdy, heavy glasses that caught off guard when we raised them in a toast to our anniversary. Food and service was fantastic. And the free, three small donuts was the perfect dinner-ending treat.

Yelp
This location is really great for corporate events. The bar staff is extremely attentive and they make sure you are always taken care of. I definitely plan to keep coming back here for socializing with colleagues.

Yelp
Got a pepperoni pizza which was good. I stayed there for about an hour on a Saturday afternoon and had to pay $5 for parking. Not worth it.

Yelp
First time at this NEW RESTON LOCATION YAYYYYYYYYY! Having a Matchbox in Reston is an awesome thing. Locating it at the Reston Metro Station is a good way to keep Founding Farmer's on its toes and looking over its shoulder. I hate it when a restaurant feels like it has the upper hand, holds all the cards and acts like it's the only game in town. A little competition never hurt anyone (especially the consumer). This was our first time to Matchbox Reston and, honestly, they're still working out the kinks a little bit but I'll throw them a mulligan and give this new Reston loc the benefit of a doubt with a 4 Star rating off-the-bat because I'm a Matchbox fan (having been to the Chinatown, One Loudoun and Mosaic locations many times over many years) and I know their menu, the potential of what it CAN be and I have faith that it WILL eventually live up to its reputation. Party of 3, we made Open Table reservations same day but truthfully, we didn't need to. There was plenty of seating available when we arrived for dinner around 730PM on a weeknight. Nice setting, nice interior decor and sufficiently large inside. They have a pretty darn impressive covered outside dining area (see my pics) as well as, just inside the front entrance, a huge-@ss bar area with tv's all around which looks like it'll be a cool place to sit, hang and watch some games once the place gets rolling. The menu, if you're not familiar with Matchbox's, is typical American fare - think Sweetwater, Jackson's, Clyde's. A step up from (and pricier than) Glory Days, Chili's, Friday's. A step down from Founding Farmer's (you'll get out of Matchbox for less tho and feel just as satisfied imho - especially in the beer/cocktail department where, at Founding Farmers, you'll get price gouged (plus FF tacks on an extra 5% "Restaurant Recovery Fee" on your entire check (!)), so buyer beware!). We ordered a couple wood fired individual pizzas and the Nashville Hot Crispy Chicken Sandwich. All 3 mains were fine....just "fine." Except: skip the side salad for $5. A salad kit at Safeway is 10 x better than their side salad! No appeal whatsoever - bland, mostly lettuce, croutons were huge and hard as rocks, dressing was non existent. A waste of 5 bucks. Also - the 3 donuts we ordered for dessert were so disappointing. Thank goodness they were complimentary as a promo to get us in the door. $7 is highway robbery for what you get - just walk across the plaza to Founding Farmer's and pick up a $1 glazed or $3 Jefferson Filled donut instead. Matchbox, if you're trying to compete with Founding Farmer's donuts, just hang it up now and admit defeat. No contest. :( Service was....okay. Nothing to write home about. Again, I'm giving them a pass for being new and getting their sea legs - it seemed our server was new to ever being a server (at least it felt that way) but because it wasn't a busy night, we went with the flow. Matchbox Reston, you have a ways to go to knock Founding Farmer's off its perch but it's a good goal to set your sights on. Founding Farmer's has been the only game in town there at Reston Station for years so it's going to take a slow and steady effort of killing-us-with-kindness, top notch service, pampering the hell out of us and serving exceptional and high quality fare. Not a tall order - just something we expect for the prices you're charging but very do-able. Not there yet. Welcome to Reston and hope you have a long and happy life here!
