We had a fantastic experience at Matchbox! I took the kids, and they absolutely loved the food—everything was delicious! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was outstanding. Our waiter was not only well-mannered but also very smiley and kind, making sure we were comfortable throughout our meal. Thank you for the great food and excellent service! We’ll definitely be coming back.

Great service. A delightful waitress. Astonishing good food from a kitchen that is intentional about food allergies. But mostly just a fantastic server. If you go, I hope you get Rose. Rose is what I would want every server to be- laid back, engaging, thoughtful, smart. She made our experience! Also try the cauliflower and carrot purée and the Mai Time to Shine zero proof. Both divine. And I had no upset stomach after. Thank you Matchbox Rockville team. Fantastic! Go.

Oh my I haven’t been here in 2 years. The food is so good. They have a new add for $17.00 A sandwich with salad …the fries are included. I got the Cod Fried Fish Sandwich…. soooo good. Kyle was our server. He was quick and attentive. I’m looking forward to returning soon.

They have a good selection of different food and especially pizza. I got a pizza with vodka sauce, hot honey, cheese and basil. The pizza was great but pretty expensive with $19. I also got a peach lemonade for $5 which was pretty good. The service was very kind but slow. We waited about 15 minutes for our checks. We also had a 20% service charge/ tip already added (because we were a large party) even though we paid separately. Overall a decent experience but pretty expensive

Food was SO good. Kyle (our server) asked if I wanted my crispy chicken sandwich “Nashville hot” and I’m still exploring my white girl spice tolerance so I nervously said yes. Kyle seemed a little hesitant but kindly offered some ranch or bleu cheese on the side just in case to which I happily agreed. In the end I am SO glad I got this meal it was just the right amount of spicy. Kyle was great and kept our drinks topped off throughout the entire meal, he also offered us free dessert if we left a review on Google. But like even so he was really awesome I promise!!!

The food is delicious. We love the sliders (always get 6- as 3 isn’t enough) and the pizza is excellent. Kyle was a great server and we really enjoyed our meal. Don’t sleep on the desserts! See Photos 😀

First and foremost this was our first time coming to Matchbox. Let me say I was extremely pleased with my server Edwin! Quick attentive and willing to help in anyway in fact he even gave tons of suggestions on what to order and what to get like he knew the menu which was cool. Me and my Wife really enjoyed the options he gave 5 stars from us to Edwin 5 Stars as well as Jake with being so respectful just in passing and to the manager on duty she was extremely lovely and helpful Thanks MatchBox Will Be Back!!!

I was served by Antonio who was very nice and made my family and I feel very welcome! With fast service such as refills and the food was fresh and delicious many different flavors that all taste great! Definitely coming back hoping to have Antonio as a waiter again!

Matchbox pizza hits different. I love the crispiness and spiciness of the tomato sauce and pepperonis. The restaurant was nice and quiet for a Monday evening. I was able to get some work done while enjoying some delicious grub. Customer service was superior and I absolutely have no complaints at all. #EatGoodAndBeHappy

I'm still so sad about the decline of this place. It really was a really great place - I was there every week , I brought a lot people through there. It's been bad since before the pandemic. I stop in once a year now hoping for a turnaround but it never happens. If you hadn't known it before, you really wouldn't believe how great it once was. Today, I stopped in - it was happy hour. But the place was sad, not happy. 100 + day, no AC in bar, but they had a fan blowing hot air around. I sat at bar for ten minutes (the pace hardly had anyone in it) - in those ten minutes no one stepped behind the bar. I left.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of this local franchise The last time I came to a matchbox was decades ago when I first moved to DC. And there's a reason I haven't been back. Nevertheless, my friends had to have dinner here because this was the only option they could think of. I should have said something and I'm kicking myself that I didn't What we ended up getting was Arancini which was okay. I would have liked a slightly tastier sauce. Crispy tuna tacos which was fine. It came with street corn which was okay I did try the garlic chicken pizza which was horrible. I asked for table, chips and salsa thinking that they would be able to provide this complimentary kind of like bread. However, I was really unhappy to find out that they actually charge for this item. When we pointed this out to the server he was very deferential and said it was up to the management. Honestly, I think that is a little bit bizarre because a lot of these restaurants do provide complementary bread or chips as something to munch on while you're waiting. Another thing that was a little bizarre about the surface was my friends who came a little bit earlier than me decided to sit inside but then wanted to sit outside when I joined which was fine by me. So we all proceeded to the outdoor seating arrangement and then chase down by the server who didn't like that. We made our own seating arrangement and asked us to wait for over several minutes just outside. In one of the aisles. I saw several open tables so finally I convinced my friends that we could just sit down, but it was a little bit bizarre because she never came back to the table or even came to find us again. There is plenty of free parking. Ambiance is nice. I like the bathrooms and I like that they have living plants inside of the bathrooms. The restaurant itself is quite big. It's much bigger in terms of space compared to the other locations that I've seen. Overall, I think this is a very overrated chain. I'm not really understanding why it's still in business because their pizzas just plain terrible. And there are other pizza joints that are much better in quality.and the major kicker for me is that the service was not very good.

Hey friends! I met my godmom and cousin here for girls night. I've always heard good things about Matchbox, I finally got to try it recently. Matchbox serves New American food and is known for their pizzas. I ordered the black bean burger and fries($18). I hated everything about the burger. I specifically asked for it be cooked well done so it wouldn't fall apart. I cut into to and it immediately fell apart. I suggest they use oats to bind the burger together to avoid it falling apart. The burger also had ingredients on it that weren't listed on the menu. That's an allergy hazard and management should fix it immediately. The burger came with Fritos on top and cucumbers... unpleasant. The fries were delicious. I also ordered a Dragonfruit margarita. It was very delicious. A nice balance of sweet and tart from the alcohol. Service was okay. Our server was robotic. The interior is aesthetically pleasing. I definitely wasn't expecting such an impressive interior. Restrooms were clean. Parking is free and ample. I'll be back to try their infamous pizza. I hope you enjoy! With love, The Picky Pescatarian

What I like about matchbox is that there's something for everyone. If you don't know what to eat, you don't know what you're craving, matchbox is your spot. The food was decent for the price. However, the service was a bit slow. I felt like we even had to wait a long time for water. Consistent food, but nothing special.

Such a disappointing experience. I should've stopped when the drink I ordered tasted off. I also got the French toast which taste like the school lunch I would have for breakfast in elementary school. You might as well by some frozen French sticks instead. These were also nauseatingly sweet. I didn't eat half of it. Wouldn't recommend, I don't know if it's just this location or all matchboxes but pretty disappointing. The biscuits and chicken wings were good and my table agreed that was the best thing we had. The service was also interestingly slow considering the restaurant was not full. It is a shame this was a negative experience because the restaurant looks nice. This place may be better suited for shareable or happy hour.

My friend and I had the ribs. They were outstanding. I had the mashed potatoes. Kelvin was out server and he was tremendous.

Great food, wide menu selection ("something for everyone"), friendly service, and nice space (lighting is great for photos). We had a party of 6, and everyone loved their food. PEPPERONI & HOT HONEY PIZZA (HALF) and SPICY MEATBALL (HALF) - $18 I couldn't decide between two pizzas and our server offered the option of ordering half & half - yay! Both the host and server raved about the "pepperoni & hot honey" - agree, if you love sweet & salty, you will love it. However looking at other food pics, my pizza didn't have quite the same presentation - taste-wise, it was still good! Description says "vodka sauce, pepperoni, hot honey, mozzarella, basil" ... every ingredient spoke to me but I couldn't taste any vodka sauce on mine ... maybe it was subtle? The "spicy meatball" pizza was good too - spicy but not unbearable. Menu description - "roasted garlic, crushed red pepper, bacon, mozz, halved meatballs." I loved the pepperoni & hot honey pizza more - my nephew loved the spicy meatball more. RIBEYE - $38 14oz grilled steak, asparagus, mashed potatoes, garlic butter. Ribeye is so big that my parents shared the dish. My dad's a picky eater and he loved the steak. I had a bite - very good. I didn't try the other items b/c they're not the sharing type (boo) but everyone enjoyed their food - Black Bean Veggie Burger ($18), Roasted Salmon ($26), Double Bacon Cheeseburger ($19), and Simple Salad ($6 - side salad). Overall great spot esp. for families. FYI they have a great special on gift cards now. Also a loyalty program. Next time I'd like to try the "fire + smoke" pizza - described as having "chipotle puree, basil, Spanish onions, roasted garlic puree, roasted red peppers, smoked gouda" ... sounds intriguing, right? :)

We always enjoy Matchbox. Great choose your toppings and sauce toppings on an individual 12 inch pizza. Yummy. Decent atmosphere, not too crowded. Staff are very nice and accommodating. We will go back. It's just good.

Crispy half chicken with brin is absolutely delicious, along with the asparagus. However, the mashed potatoes were horrid so lumpy. They really need to learn how to make mashed potatoes. Everything was amazing, the Cesar salad was delicious as well. This is a wonderful restaurant, except for their mashed potatoes.

I'm going to be different from my previous reviews and say: don't come to this restaurant. Why would you want to spend your hard earned dollars eating great food and drinking great drinks? And sure, this place has a nice atmosphere and great service, but why would anyone want that? All jokes aside, this is a great place for food and drinks. Service was also great when I went and the food was served quickly. I just have to remember to visit more often. Nom nom nom!

Matchbox gives off great vibes! I love how the restaurant is big, tall, and spacious. Our waiter was very professional and efficient too. For food, my friend and I ordered the spinach artichoke dip, and a half fire + smoke and half pig + pineapple pizza. Everything was delicious. I loved the garlic flavor on the toast because it went well with the dip. I also loved the contrast of the 2 pizza flavors. One side was sweet, and the other was spicy! All ingredients tasted fresh, and the crust was hot and crispy. I would definitely recommend everyone to dine in and get the food fresh.

I ordered the jumbo crab cake which was amazing. Our waiter was always ready for water refills or whatever else we needed.

We visited this Matchbox location for an early dinner and we weren't impressed. Everything was mediocre, including the food, drinks, and overall visit. However, it should be noted that the hostess and our server were great and very eager to assist. I ordered the Holy Grail Margherita pizza and my dinning companion ordered the ribs. My pizza was bland. Literally nothing to write home about. He ordered the ribs and he said they were just okay. I'm a big fan of the Matchbox in downtown DC, but the food was just average at this location. It's a nice and big location where you can either dine inside or outside. It wasn't a horrible visit, but it just wasn't our cup of tea. Won't be returning.

Exactly what I needed today! Had the fried chicken sandwich, Nashville hot (added purple onions) and a $5 Cinco de Mayo margarita. Perfect ending to a hard day. Except... Our server Kyle. 10/10. Dude. Love this guy!! Tempted us with warm sugar donuts and we couldn't say no Yay for Mondays and just giving yourself a break!

It's been awhile since I came to Matchbox, and while I heard that the brunch was better than the last time I reviewed, it's been years since I visited. That being said, I came in a few weeks ago for Pizza and Salad and it was delicious. I got the Pepperoni Pizza, and I will say, Matchbox's Pepperoni is delicious. I love how the pepperoni is burnt a little on the side, and how thin the pizza is. The service was good because it was very empty, but will definitely be back.

OMG, Matchbox is the cutest! The vintage mid-century vibes make it a total Insta-dream with exposed brick, tin ceilings and matchboxes everywhere. But let's get to the good stuff - the wood-fired pizzas are to die for! The crispy-chewy crust on the matchbox meat with all the yummy pepperoni, sausage and bacon is just chef's kiss. For something lighter, the crab and shrimp fettuccine in that creamy spicy tomato sauce is absolutely drool-worthy. Sip on their smokin' mezcal margarita for the perfect girly cocktail. It can get busy, but who cares when the ambiance is this adorable? Matchbox is a must for cute date nights or fun with your besties over delish comfort food!

We went for Easter brunch, and the service and food were amazing. We got a mimosa tower, which was more than enough for the table. All the dishes we ordered were great! Definitely will be back to try their pizzas.

I sat in bar area and had a burger and a couple beers and everything was excellent but what was really impressive were the two guys working that part of restaurant. It was full and they did an amazing job taking care of everyone. They were so pleasant and attentive This was July8 Great job guys Will be back for sure

For real this is the PLACE! From cocktails to chicken nuggets they meet all the needs of your party. And cocktails to boot. Don't sleep on the weekend brunch. Ask for Kyle btw

Had a wonderful meal and time at the matchbox for dinner with my family came from out of town this week and Antonio my server was a delight very tentative to our needs and was very nice and pleasant to talk to!! Food was delicious and place was quite clean and ambiance was wonderful!

Had a dinner at the Rockville location tonight. The server, Kyle was extremely attentive, courteous, and polite. Our food order was correct, and was delicious. We will back again, and will request Kyle as our server.

Matchbox has been on my "to try" list for a while. Finally got there today. Enjoyed it. But it won't be a regular go to place. The venue has lots of nifty areas for seating - pizza counter, bar, dining room, upstairs... Service staff is friendly and polite. The food tastes good... some delicious (pizza, salad) and some "meh" (fries, burger). The drinks? We went all out and tried the spicy margaritas. They were really good, but not really great. A bit sweet and no spicy taste. And very little tequila. We were ready to pay the bill when offered a dessert menu. Decided what the heck, let's get an apple crisp. We were told they just that minute ran out of Apple crisp and it wouldn't be ready for another half an hour, they were very sorry. Well, we chatted and talked and ordered another drink, and 45 minutes later asked if we could have that apple crisp. We were told oh well it'll be ready in another 45 minutes. So we pulled out a box of Girl Scout cookies and made our own dessert. So this really isn't a bad place. But it's not a great place. And the food is good, the prices are very steep - even for happy hour (aka "social hour" here). I may go back if that's where the group goes, but it's not some place I'm going to choose to go when I just venture out on my own, or suggest a place to gather.

Located in a strip mall/plaza with ample free parking. I've been here a few times and they have indoor/outdoor seating and a large fire pit at the outside, nice casual vibe with various seating areas and a different feel at each section. The waiter and service were good, everything came out really quickly and it wasn't crowded for a weekday late lunch. I normally get pizza here, but we tried their spinach and artichoke dip, crab cake sandwich, and scallops, which were good and flavors were nice as well. The problem is, we had originally ordered the ribeye cooked medium and I snapped a photo as soon as it came and you'll see a clean plate, but within minutes as we were chatting, it was bleeding out without us touching it. I wish I had taken a pic after, but cutting through the middle and even the end of the thinner side, it was bleeding out too much to be medium - definitely a medium rare at best, but bordering rare. We sent it back and asked them to cook it erroring on the medium well side. The waiter came back and said the chef said the original steak was already medium well, so if we wanted it more cooked, order it well done! Seemed like a snarky remark from a Matchbox and not a Michelin star restaurant, so he simply said if the chef doesn't want to prepare it the way he ordered it, then he'll take the scallops. Someone came over to ask us what the issue was and wanted to understand even though we didn't complain and just wanted to enjoy the rest of our meal. She could've simply looked at the order and the plate we sent back, which after cutting into it twice, was filled with blood. We appreciated the follow up but it was still an interruption of our meal and normally places would offer a discount or complimentary something, but nada. The steak did look beautiful and I personally like mine medium rare and would've probably preferred it bordering rare vs medium, but that was not what was ordered and not everyone's preferences! I would say this place is 3 stars otherwise, but I'll have to drop a star for this. Would've given it a 1 star, but the waiter tried his best to be the middleman so he deserves a star!

Made a reservation an hour in advance. We were greeted upon walking in, then were seated at a high table off the small bar closer to the outdoor patio. The waiter was friendly and very responsive at service. The Summer Restaurant Week special was $40 per person and to choose from four appetizers, three entrees and three desserts. The Apple and Pear Salad was healthy with a lot of ingredients. Arancini was well made and tasty. Three Mini Sliders were topped with fried onions. Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo came in chicken flakes instead of filet. Pan Seared Salmon was delicious but slightly dried. The Q Special Pizza was served hot on the stone plate. The Warm Sugar Donuts were dipped with chocolate or raspberry sauce. The Classic Brownies was tasted great with the ice cream. NY Style Cheesecake was kind of dried.

Food and service were great. Ordered the table bread to start. It was a little spicy for me but the kids loved it and I ordered a second one without Chilli flakes which was perfect. I had the meatballs and polenta. Presentation and taste were great. The kids ordered burgers and loved them. Kyle- our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. He was great about refilling our drinks too. I highly recommend

Had a great time! I enjoyed the scallops with corn puree, I wish I remembered our waitors name. We had a huge party and they were able to host us seamlessly. The desserts are also great, definitely try it!

Matchbox for the win! We always enjoy the food, service and vibe! We have very different tastebuds and everyone can always find something they like...love! Today I tried something different, a seasonal dish and it was super flavorful. The servers always make you feel like you are a star, tonight Geo was a class act! We will be back, we always come back!

Birthday pizza for free if you have an account. No need for an app, just give your phone number. That's a great offer considering their large pizzas are $20+. We ordered the Fire and Smoke (vegetarian) which I always ordered back when I met friends for happy hour near Gallery Place/Chinatown. It's delicious if you like a little kick to your food. I ordered the crab bisque because of the solid reviews, but it was not the best. Luke warm. Very small pieces of crab. For the price tag I'd hold off and order from a true seafood restaurant, preferably across the Bay Bridge. My friends pear and apple salad was very good. It was a side option with our meal, so not full-sized and a bit cheaper. We went for lunch on a weekday and there were not many patrons here. Plenty of free parking unlike Silver Spring. If I return, I would come back to this location.

matchbox is a cool spot! It's definitely got like a "chain" restaurant feel to it, but in a lot of great ways. If you choose to dine in, there's lots of cool seating. There's a nice outdoor patio area to dine (with heating) and there's an upstairs level if you're inside. The decor is modern and has a restaurant/bar-chain feel to it, but it looks like they can host a lot of people when things get busy. We went for brunch on a Sunday, but they also offer the full menu when they open too. Service was very kind and pleasant. They're also accommodating for any modifications you want to make to items on the menu (opting out of certain ingredients/making small changes). I chose a half and half pizza and enjoyed it. Flavors were good and ingredients were fresh. The dough wasn't too impressive (kind of flimsy), but the other parts of the pie made up for it. Great experience overall and would definitely come back. Looks like a fun spot to go with a group.

Ladies meet up was just right tonight. Holiday drinks were all around delicious. Arancini balls 4 out of 5 Spinach artichoke 5 out of 5 Calamari 3 out of 5 Sliders 5 out of 5 Steak frites 5 out of 5 Butternut squash Salad 4 out of 5 Antoine provided kind, friendly and speedy service!

Overall- cozy and clean ambiance, good service, great menu options, and decent food. We went for brunch with three different generations and there were plenty of things to satisfy everyone. We loved that they would split the pizza half and half and that they had mocktails on the menu. The Nashville hot option of the chicken sandwich was yummy. The outdoor patio looked super cute and even had a nice fire table, but it was raining when we were there. We went for brunch on a Sunday and it was empty. The only reason I didn't mark it 5 stars was because for those prices I think I was expecting the food to be a little better. Nothing inherently wrong but nothing I'd be itching to return for. Another table did have the skillet cinnamon rolls and those looked decadent.

Brunch at Matchbox is the best value for great service and yummy food. Kyle is server extraordinaire! He knew we were with my MIL, who uses a wheelchair. He greeted us outside and directed us to our table that was already accommodating for her wheelchair. He's why we keep coming back.

Matchbox is one of our go to restaurants. I've never been disappointed in their quality of food. We've tried everything from brunch, to lunch, and dinner. We've even come here once for a catering event. Today, we came for lunch with no reservations and we got seated right away. Service was quick and we were in and out of there within an hour. I ordered a half rack of ribs with coleslaw and french fries and my husband ordered their pepperoni pizza with no cheese (he's not a friend of dairy) - all came out delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Staff are super friendly and dining area is kept clean with plenty of seating. They even have an outdoor seating area with fireplace.

Was in this area, never heard of Matchbox so came in on a whim and what a great experience. I loved the options as they offered a brunch menu. When I walked in I saw a picture of mini burger (sliders, I couldn't think of the name) and I said I want that. They were delicious and I could have been satisfied with that but decided to order other things since I don't live in this area - the Scramble from the brunch menu; the fish and chips; the cheese pizza (no I wasn't by myself ordering all of this). Everything was delicious. Service was top notch. David did an excellent job and his co workers were kind as well from the host to other servers. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone passing through and in the area. Had a great time. Restaurant has plenty of seating both inside and outside. Check it out. Thanks David.

I remember the first day I walked into Matchbox for the opening night and it was electric! Today not so much! The food was always exceptional and today it is competing with all the other so so restaurants and there are many! All the good things that used to be on the menu are gone - the crab cake, the scallops and the mini burgers...a perfect part of the original menu and it is so far in the rear view mirror that it will never be seen again. I had the chicken salad and what a disappointment - the chicken was so overly fried that chipping a tooth was a distinct possibility! When I did crack a piece open I could not find any chicken - the rest of the salad was fine but at $18 it is a total ripoff! The service is fine, but based on my experience I give this place 6-12 months before we see a "lost our lease" sign pops up and it did not have to happen but management let go of all that was unique about Matchbox! Too bad.
