"Opening Wednesday, July 3 at 3 p.m., this new Matchbox in Penn Quarter at 750 E Street NW occupies a building on the National Register of Historic Places and offers 125 seats inside plus a 28-seat sidewalk patio. Designed by Streetsense, the cozy, lived-in space features exposed tin ceilings, a mural, wood tabletops, leather banquettes, old photos, a pizza bar with a prime view of a custom pizza oven, and plenty of TVs and bar seating for Caps game watches. Like the Silver Spring location it will run dedicated lunch and dinner menus with daytime dishes such as a jumbo lump crab cake with red pepper remoulade, Old Bay fries, and coleslaw, and wood-fired pizzas topped with combinations like crispy pork belly, sweet chili barbecue sauce, Spanish onions, mozzarella, and cilantro. Weekend brunch includes bottomless Bloody Marys and mimosas, blueberry muffin French toast, and Bloody Mary burgers, and cocktails from Brian McGahey (including a Honey Pie Punch with Cruzan light rum, lime, orange, pineapple, and pineapple spiced syrup) will debut here first. Hours are Mon–Thu 11 a.m.–10:30 p.m., Fri 11 a.m.–1 a.m., Sat 10 a.m.–1 a.m., Sun 10 a.m.–10:30 p.m.; brunch Sat–Sun 10 a.m.–3 p.m., with a weekday happy hour from 3–7 p.m." - Adele Chapin
