Just got back from Cedars Sinai. This was my second time ordering food from here. They are not warm to those who have a darker complexion. I was washing clothes and tired from traveling from Las Vegas. When I stepped in, the food preparer was on a break I assume. He an attitude like I disturbed him from being on the phone. Being the easy going guy I am I asked what would be quick. The cashier suggested the chicken sandwich combo. So I ordered it with a smoothie continued washing my clothes and I was so hungry and tired that I devoured the sandwich. In the midst of eating the sandwich I could smell a “soapy smell”. I figured it was from me washing my hands. After washing my clothes went home and I had an early morning job at 5am. Something was off with my body I felt nauseous, stomach rumbling it was out of the norm. I had to play back in my mind the gesture of the cook how he presented me my combo. Almost like a satisfying look on his face like when people spit in your food., there was a sneaky grin on his face. I want rude, I’m always polite and I even tipped. If you’re from LA, south central, Inglewood, watts, any LA city you know when people do not like you because of the skin you’re in. Next day after dropping my client I could not hold back the nausea and threw up all over the company vehicle. I had to pay 225 dollars for a deep clean to disinfect my work vehicle. This place was the last place I consumed food so all my symptoms i narrowed down to that chicken sandwich. I kept throwing up and had diarrhea all day very bad, barely making it to the restroom. I’m literally sitting on the toilet right now. Typing this up after leaving Cedar Sinai and was diagnosed with “FOOD POISONING” they have not heard the last of this incident.. I would not recommend this place As they are very subtle with their racism and they treat you rudely if You don’t speak Spanish. Best believe I still have some of the product,” Chicken Sandwich” left preserved, and it will be going to the health department to hit a laboratory. You guys truly messed Me up for these past two days and need to be looked into in detail. But that’s OK. Trust and believe in me Lord and savior Jesus Christ this situation will be looked into with a magnifying glass! The fact that I work hard Like any other person in the city and the fact that I know he did this intentionally. This just happened two days ago. I am just able enough just now to be able to sit down and write this by my bowels keep running. All darkness will see the light and justice by Culver City Health and food administration will be served without a “soapy smell” And you don’t deserve the one star that I gave PERIOD!

As a Latina who just moved to the state, I was pretty excited to find an ice cream shop that was laid back & had the unique flavors I love. I ended up getting 2 big scoops-one of coconut and one passion fruit for $5! Compared to other ice cream shops that give you a teaspoon for $7, this was a great find. They do let you sample ice cream before buying, so I’d do that since not all of the flavors are as amazing as the last. The interior decor seems to be their signature style, it’s an old design & aging, but seems to fit their overall vibe. It’s very close to the bike path—so this is a great pick me up after a long ride. Indoor seating: 2-3 tables.

Only 3 people allowed in at a time because of covid. They have a lot of sherbets and ice cream, also popsicles. I tried their guava and mango sorbet. Both were not to sweet. Just perfect. 2 scoops was $5. Can't wait to try their other flavors. Customer service was excellent.

Updated edit 2024 I love Mateo’s ice cream! If this place was close to me I would probably visit every day. Their rum raisin gelato has me. I truly crave this ice cream, the bold and rich flavor along with the way it melts is just incredible. My kid gets a scoop of vanilla with rainbow sprinkles, and my husband likes their cookies and creme gelato in a waffle cone, You can keep it simple here with a fruit salad, or go all in with a banana split topped with all the fixings. The people who work here are super friendly and helpful. They’ll let you try gelato flavors. If it’s busy just wait a few minutes and the line should clear out. They do an amazing job at accommodating the rushes throughout the day. There’s a nice area outside you can enjoy ice cream at too ☺️ Older post from 2017- Just by looking at their ice cream you can tell it's bursting in flavor and wholeness. Bright, vivid and totally all natural ice cream in the form of gelato and also ice cream bars. Smoothies are sold here along with fresh pressed juices and freshly cut fruit. I ordered a scoop of strawberry Fresca and a scoop of horchata. It was creamy and reminded me of a strawberry Sunday from McDonalds but better. Nordy got a scoop of chocolate that was rich and decadent. Our 3 scoops came out to about $6.50.

Hey, why isn't it a 5? Fruit bars were 5 but ice cream was probably a 4. I tried coconut flavor and it wasn't a 5. Service was great for a crowded place and do ask to try before you buy. It could be hard to find parking in front so park on the street or further away from laundromat.

What a cute little place. We don't have this in our area so we wanted to try it. The front of house lady was so friendly and helped us find the bar that we would like. The interior is so bright and colorful but also calm. Quiet and clean. We got the smoked milk with cactus fruit bottom bar and a soursop bar. Both were very enjoyable. Great little stop.

Mateo's is a great place to grab a sandwich. They offer a variety of options, and the prices are reasonable. The sandwiches are definitely one of the better deals you can get in the area. Whether you eat in or take away, you get a choice of smoothie, milkshake, juice, or fresh water juices to accompany your meal. The peppers are a standout ingredient that you won't find at many other sandwich places. The ice cream is also good, but there's more to Mateo's than just that. If you're looking for fresh fruit to go, there's a bunch of prepared sliced fruit ready to eat, including coconut, strawberries, and mango. I'll definitely be coming back!

Have been wanting to visit Mateo's for such a long time, and finally made it! Since we had to go out to the west side for a meeting, we made a plan to stop by at Mateo's first. Such a cheerful, colorful and welcoming place! Service was friendly and efficient. I tried the smoked milk paleta (leche quemada), which the young woman who served me let me sample first. It was delicious. Creamy with a powerfully smoky flavor-- exquisite. I loved it. White in color, with a pretty red fruit at the bottom, which turned out to be pitaya (dragon fruit). JJ had the chocolate covered banana with nuts, which he loved. This has been his favorite as of late, and he really enjoyed it. We took them to go, but they also had seats inside, although not a big place. Looking forward to visiting again and having lunch there. Would love to try their sandwiches and different flavors of ice cream. Highly recommended!

I been coming to Mateo ice cream for quite some years. however, today I went to the location on Sepulveda and order one cucumber lime agua Fresca sadly the water had a bitter after taste. The cucumber was not rinsed or washed. Disappointed I enjoy coming in and walking out with a refreshing water with the heat specially with the inflatable prices defiantly should wash there veggies! We were on vacation here in Santa Monica and my brother in law recommended this place!! This place is amazing with so many options for paletas and ice-cream!! So good and such a fun colorful place to bring the kids! The servers were also very friendly! Kuddos to this place. We will definitely return and recommend this place to family and friends!

I've been looking for authentic Mexican ice creams and paletas and Mateo's is it! They have a variety of ice creams, paletas, and other treats. Their ice creams are thick and creamy, exactly how I like my ice cream. They have a small seating area inside and outside, perfect for the summer time.

Covid Guidelines: Mask up... 3 people inside the shop at all times... wait patiently until it is your turn. No indoor seating for now Location/Parking: Located in a small strip mall on the SE corner of Sepulveda and Lucerne Ave. Parking can be hard to find, but you can find parking along Sepulveda or on Lucerne Ave. Order Of Operations: For items that take longer to make, you would pay and wait outside for them to be made. Once they're done, the staffers would come outside to give you your beverage/food of choice. Service: Service is always great. Staffers are friendly and attentive to your needs and wants. Drink Of Choice: Get the watermelon or mango juice with less ice or no ice and thank me later. Get your hydration on, ya'll!

Mateo's has quite possibly THE best, and most fresh sandwiches ever- who needs Subway when you can come here for quality you can actually taste!? I've visited various locations, and this one in particular is the second best- apart from the one located in LA. There isn't one thing here that you could go wrong with. The ice creams, juices, and sandwiches are always very flavorful, and delicious! They have amazing deals for their sandwich combos which include the following: juice of your choice, a small "bionico", a small orange, and the sandwich itself! For $12 that's a price you can't beat especially because the ingredients utilized are fresh. I will forever be a costumer here.

I had Mateo's bookmarked for so long because of Alice H.'s review and it felt good to finally check this off the list. Super small parking lot, but we were lucky to get a spot practically in front of Mateo's storefront. They limit the amount of people inside, so BF and I waited until the party in front of us exited before we went in. I picked the guava fruit bar ($3) while BF got the mango ($3). We enjoyed them by our car and swapped halfway to try each other's. We found the bars very refreshing and light and loved the chunks of fruit in each of the bars. We agreed that between the two, we should eat the guava first so that the mango taste doesn't overpower the lightness of the guava. Too bad we aren't on the westside too often, otherwise I'd see myself coming by Mateo's on every warm weekend to enjoy a refreshing fruit bar and to try out the variety of flavors they have available.

OMg, I've been living in CC for 5 years and have just recently discovered this neighborhood gem !! Anyways, better late than sorry...although I do regret not having visited this place earlier. They have a large selection of ice cream and popsicles (creamy and sorbet styles) to choose from. The fruit sorbets (not so common flavors) are fresh and not overly sweet!! The shop is pretty small with a few tables inside and outside. Parking space is limited, but this place is totally worthy the hassle! Service was good too! Haven't tried the sandwichs and smoothies - will give them a go next time!

Looking for a quiescently cooled concoction just in time for the weekend, or for any warm day? You'll find it here at Mateo's. View a rainbow of paletas (Mexican popsicles) and large selection of ice creams, but I'm here for the paleta, which they make in many fun exotic flavours. Paletas stay well frozen; no need to worry about melting in minutes, as long as you're not driving longer than half an hour. Just a couple bucks and your thirst and sweet tooth will be quenched by any of the paletas. They sell fruit and creme ones, but I prefer sticking with just fruit. Guava paleta was definitely made from real guava as it contains seeds. One popsicle was too much to finish, so I saved half, which was just as refreshing later. Mateo's is located at the very far left end in a teeny corner strip mall that mainly includes a laundromat. The strip mall is on the same side of the street, practically next to a McDonald's.

We've been devotees for years but I fear all the rave reviews will just mean they get CRAZY busy. You sort of hear about this from locals in CC - the school network etc because of the ice cream but the Tortas and smoothies/fresh squeezed juices are what take an otherwise quaint shop of bars and scoops to the next level. I love the turkey TORTA which comes with black bean smear, Oaxacan cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato and pickled jalapeños on the side (I slap those puppies right in my sandwich). The bread has the right amount of crunch and the side fixings of fruit/yogurt and a perfectly cut orange are always fresh! My son loves their strawberry FRESA so much it's hard to get him to deviate. I get fresh squeezed watermelon juice that hits the thirst-quenching spot. It's nice they do smoothie/juice pairings with sandwiches too for a bundle price. Go here for lunch, a treat, or a fresh smoothie. You won't be sorry!

It's really good, especially since I'm lactose intolerant and I rarely eat dairy.... This was worth the sacrifice to have gas later in my day! I'd give it 5 farts out of five, and I was supposed to meet a friend ... but she forgot :/. So this was a personal story that I'm sharing w the world so they know I didn't give a fart to begin with, and now I do even tho I couldn't connect with my lady friend .... Definitely worth visiting on a hot day! I recently came on the warmest weekend of 2019. It was busy, but there was not a line or wait. They make everything fresh in house: paletas (fruit ice and fruit cream bars) and ice cream. They have a handful of dairy free ice cream options too. They have unique flavors like mamey (a tropical tree fruit), smoked milk, and tequila. They're very friendly and let you sample lots of flavors. Price is very low: $3 for a scoop of ice cream or two flavors for $5. The paletas are around $3, and the fancier ones with dip/toppings cost a bit more. One of the best things is the dipped banana. It's not too sweet and they use dark chocolate. They have it with or without peanuts. I love that I can get this here without having to go to a carnival!

Such a cheerful little shop with bright colors and lively decor -- characterized by its Mexican heritage. It's a small, modest shop, yet there are a few tables to linger in. I got a scoop of Mezcal to go. (It wasn't labeled as such). I love to sample the more unusual tropical/central American fruits like soursop and guava. Try Mamey. It's quite pleasant...I RECOMMEND IT. You can buy the ice cream on a stick, or you can buy scoops in a bowl. The popsicles look delicious, standing at attention in the display counter. The very amicable American server offered up his tasting notes on some of the fruits. I thought he did a great job setting a pleasant tone to this store. He was bi-lingual. The Mezcal definitely had a nice kick to it. It was decadently creamy and well-made. They also do fruit juices like watermelon. WORTH VISITING ON A HOT DAY, AND ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE TO SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESSES. A true Los Angeles special!

I went to mateos yesterday to get a torta and I asked for just ham, cheese and mayo and told the lady many times what I wanted and she even repeat it but she was in such a bad mood and had such a bad attitude with me that she only put cheese and mayo in the torta and charged me 18 dollars for a bread with cheese and mayo "NO HAM". I was still being nice but she was very rude. I been going to the mateos in Santa Monica and I started trying this one and this was any second and last time going to this location. It's so unfortunate to be paying for good customer service and I didn't received it.

I used to come here all the time when I was younger and going to the local high school. Nothing has really changed about this place in the last ten years which is nice because it's like visiting an old friend. I tried the leche quemada (smoked milk) and it was good. I ended up buying myself a chocolate covered banana with nuts, I got my daughter an arroz com leche (rice pudding) paleta (popsicle) and for my husband, I got him a strawberry and banana smoothie but added some banana split ice cream to it. He liked it. I got him a large. Our total was a little under $18 which is a bit pricey for what we got but it was a treat and from what I understand the ice cream and popsicles are made in house. And they have a large variety of different flavors. Parking is a disaster though. I drove around a few time before pulling up next to the bridge and leaving my hazards on. I'm pregnant so I was done waiting for parking and needed my ice cream fix. Also, I happen to come in at the perfect time as there was no line but as soon as I was done ordering there was LITERALLY a line out the door of about 15 people so expect a wait but it's worth it. Super fresh. Delicious. I highly recommend.

I have been living in this area for 10 years and I can't believe it took me this long to scratch Mateos off my list! I tried the banana ice cream, passion fruit sorbet and got the guava and watermelon popsicles to go and eat later. I was amazed how good and fresh the popsicles tasted (they're made from the straight fruit). I asked about the sugar content because they are so natural tasting and they said the fresh fruit ones have less sugar added than the milk flavors. Just amazing. I always appreciate when banana ice cream doesn't taste artificial too so win for that as well! And the passion fruit sorbet was more tangy with the ice cream. So many flavors to try and I want the ones I got already again ha. I will definitely get these to entertain at some point too. YUM

Every location I go to the consistency and the orders are completely different...despite the picture advertisements. Specifically the Bionicos. #1 This bionico costs wayyy to much to be the (banana split) small container. Other locations and other business this is a small and the bionicos (large) usually come in the bigger constrained for $10. I am very upset at the price and size of this compared to other locations and other companies. I really think this location is specifically just trying to get people for their money. If the picture on the wall has bionicos in the bigger container I feel like that she be honored. This is my 4th and final bionico I am getting from this location. And he didn't put my fork in the bag! Aye

Flavors from clásicos, like strawberry, chocolate, y vanilla, to exóticos, like tequila, smoked milk y mamey. The paletas are bonita and jugoso! Watermelon! Mango! Guanabana! The milkshakes and smoothies are made to orden, fresca y delicioso! Which brings us to The Bomba! Imagine: milk, strawberries, banana, papaya, mamey, raisins, coconut, granola and honey in una orgía de sabor! Best quality, locally made, budget friendly. ¡Cinco estrellas!

They offer a large range of frozen treats, fresh smoothies and fruit. We had some of their ice cream this trip. The strawberries and cream is perfect not to sweet. The cookies and cream is always really good and creamy. The price is reasonable and it's locally owned. The fruit popsicles are really good as well. I personally enjoy the coconut ones.

Amazing ! I've tried several of their paletas and haven't been disappointed! I just devoured a coconut pineapple fruit bar and it was out of site ! I wish they came in mini sizes tho because I don't have the will power to just eat half and save the other half for later ( they are quite sweet) the place is clean, employee was pleasant and everything on display was so tempting and beautiful! They did have ezquites (we didn't see it listed on the menu though), licuados (shakes), in addition to ice cream and popsicles, plus cut fruit, green detox drinks, fruit bowls (bionicos) and sandwiches. Tucked in the far corner of a strip mall...parking a bit crowded as theres a laundromat in the same plaza. Enjoy!

OMG I like their flavors of their ice cream bars & ice cream too my favorite sandwiches are the tuna sandwich with a vegetable smoothie and a little biónico Yummy . This place is small but with big flavors is located in the beautiful Culver City ,on Sepúlveda Street ,you can always find parking there but street parking is available to .I strongly recommend this place

Parking is tough and the place is small (no bathrooms - which is kind of the reason I chose this place to stop on my travels). But, the strawberry and cream ice cream I got was tasty and a good price. They have loads of great options to chose from - in terms of gelato style ice cream, to juices, to juice popsicles. I'd stop here again.

Best Fruit bars on earth! If you haven't had a Mateos Mexican ice cream bar then you haven't lived life to the fullest! I love the strawberry bar, the watermelon bar and the mango bar. They all taste like fresh fruit but with the ice cold ice cream bar twist! DELICIOUS!!!

Fresh paletas! They had a variety of choices. I didnt know what to choose and the girl behind the counter was able to let me sample some before I picked a flavored I like. Minimum for credit card is $10, so make sure you have cash on hand if you're only buy one or two. I end up getting the Guava, it was really good. A lot of the Guava seeds are in the pop so be careful eating it.
