We just held our second function at Matilda Bay, and I cannot speak highly enough of the entire experience. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very welcome with the staffs warm and friendly service. The food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish was beautifully presented and was bursting with flavour. We had several food allergies and dietary requirements which were all catered for without any compromise to the quality or flavour to the food. We held our function in the Wine Room and the atmosphere was equally as impressive. A great balance between fine dining and being comfortable. I would highly recommend this to anyone holding a small celebration for a special occasion. We were also allocated a Host for the evening who was called Tom. Tom deserves his own shout out as his attentiveness to each and every guest needs went above and beyond our expectations. So overall, the service was outstanding, the food impeccable and the ambiance made it truly memorable. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Matilda Bay to anyone looking for a exceptional dining experience.

We went here for my birthday lunch last month, and we spent around $170 for everything that we ordered (2pax). Personally, not that good of a value for money and we were not that impressed by the serving size of the Seafood Platter ($120). However, the place looks fantastic with a nice view outside. Review breakdown: SEAFOOD PLATTER > Was just okay, nothing special. The octopus was served burnt and tasted very bitter. At the end we left feedback about it and hopefully was passed on to the manager. > The barramundi was the winner for us in this dish. Simply delicious. VIBE > The place is fancy and has a classy vibe to it. It's a dress up kind of place and we appreciated that! SERVICE > Fantastic! The server we had was friendly and attentive, and was empathetic when we told her about the octopus.

Matilda Bay is a popular fine dining restaurant in Perth. We went there for my birthday, and we were met with a very friendly and positive attitude. The waitress that served us was amazing . (I wish I could remember her name). The atmosphere of the restaurant was very warm. When you walk inside, you are met with a lovely view of the river. The restaurant is nicely decorated, too. When it comes to food, though; it generally did not meet our expectations. Some of the dishes that we ate were really good, we particulary loved the bread types, liver parfait and brussel sprouts. But the rest was mediocre considering their prices. The meat, especially, lacked general flavor and was hard to eat because of its texture.

Went for a lunch. The food is good but not exceptional for the price paid. Service was warm, however, it is hard to meet the waitress/waiter. Although there was only me and family that afternoon.

It was Mother's Day and my son wanted to take me out for breakfast with his stepfather. We decided to go to Matilda Bay and try out this restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but the lady at reception was kind enough to let us have a table for an hour. Everyone was very welcoming and nice. We were seated at a table and was immediately attended to by wait staff. Ordered tea for my husband and a latte for myself. My son asked for the breakfast brisket sandwich and my husband and I asked for the ham hock sandwich. Service was pretty quick and our meals were served very promptly. However, we were a bit disappointed. They were all just buns with a poached egg, some meat, and a bit of vegetable. There wasn't even a serving of salad on the side and the plates looked empty and sad. It was disappointing because for the price, well, we expected more. You'd get more food for that money someplace else. The sandwiches tasted good, the meat was tender. But it didn't seem worth the price. The service was outstanding, I will give them that. And there was no denying that the setting with the view of the river was great. But if this is the kind of food they have, I am sorry to say the location and service is not enough to entice.

Google
A lovely place for a special day. Had a lovely dining experience. Sitting by the window watching over the swan river. Wonderful server that patiently explain the menu. Ordered sourdough and oysters as starters. Chargrill sirloin steak and Braised short ribs as mains. Roasted pumpkins as sides.

An iconic restaurant in a spectacular location in our city of Perth. Unfortunately it was a mistake to dine there on a busy Saturday evening! They were overwhelmed with a wedding reception outside and a large birthday in the Wine cellar and a full restaurant. Service suffered, the food quality suffered and the noise level was horrendous! We had a very expensive 2 course meal, where we didn’t receive all sides ordered, but that’s ok, plus drinks and coffee.

Matilda Bay Restaurant offers a stunning riverside dining experience with breathtaking views of the Swan River and Perth city, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. The atmosphere is elegant yet comfortable, and sitting by the window or outside overlooking the river enhances the experience. The food was enjoyable. I ordered a breakfast meal, and while simple, it was well-prepared—featuring perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, and tasty bread. The presentation was good, though some elements could have been slightly better. The service was friendly and efficient, though it could be a bit more attentive during busy periods. A standout was their smoothies. We tried the coconut and strawberry smoothies, and both were delicious. Made with real fruit and blended with complementary flavors, they were refreshing and well-balanced. Overall, Matilda Bay Restaurant is a great choice for a scenic meal with quality food. The picturesque location and pleasant dining experience make it well worth a visit. Would definitely return!

Yelp
We have been going there for 20 years, since our 22yo son was a baby and played under the table with the colored glass beads they used to have around. Same ownership that whole time and a couple of big refurbs, the last one a year or three ago, Matilda Bay is an occasion restaurant. Brilliant location, the Bay is almost always calm and the view is stunning. Last time we went (May 14) the food was excellent (and HOT - how many places get this wrong??) and although the old wallet got a hammering (too much plonk!) the quality is there so is the experience. Service has been consistently good-to-great over the years, and if you and about 14 cobbers care to party privately, there is a fabulous private room with a huge table. I vaguely remember having my 50th there.

Yelp
Initially I waited ten minutes to be seated after calling ahead with a reservation. Everyone was sat in one section of the restaurant clustered all together as if there wasn't ample seating throughout the facility. I asked for a WiFi password due to my international data plan to be informed the internet is for the staff only. I came for steak and ordered the filet medium rare and was asked if I wanted a side in addition to the cous cous that came with it. I added the duck fat potatoes. The steak came a medium plus but the appearance and flavor was good. I was never asked if the meal was satisfactory at any point. The cous cous was nothing to write home about. The flavors did not mesh well and were cold with an overly oily, oddly sweet after flavor with the odd crunch of almonds which were whole, not shaved. The potatoes were the star of the entire meal and shouldn't have been. When I asked to take the remainder of the potatoes with me, I was informed that they don't do take away and only have lids and no containers, but if one could be found I would need to pick up my food at the front desk because of the no take away rule. A total let down for what has the capability of being a five star restaurant. The view is amazing but not worth the cost or lack of dining experience.

Yelp
Today we visited Matilda Bay Brewery. It was overrated and ordinary in every way. The staff were rude and for a Brewery they seemed to dislike the type of people that visit them. A or choice when visiting the Yarra Valley.

Yelp
The scenic outlook of Matilda Bay restaurant was the setting for a tasting of new releases from one of Australia's premier wineries - Moss Wood - last week. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon represents 40 years of Cabernet from the Willyabrup vineyard - and I still have two of the 1973 set aside - alas I have finished all of the rest of the 70s which I remember with great fondness. (The wine and the era!) Anyway, it was a great afternoon of excellent wine - the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon certainly maintaining the high standards set by Moss Wood - and the new 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from their Ribbon Vale vineyard impressed also. 2015 Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Pale gold with aromatic tropical fruit bouquet, with an underlying boost of lemon zest; the palate is smooth, full of peach and grapefruit, passionfruit and lemon. Great drinking now. 93 2015 Moss Wood Semillon Green and gold flecks; lifted bouquet of lemon blossom and freshly cut grass; intense lemon flavours; crisp acid finish. Refreshing and exhilarating in its youth it will age brilliantly - see below for proof. 95 2014 Moss Wood Chardonnay Brilliant straw gold with a distinct bouquet of stone fruit and melons, and honeyed ginger notes; the rich and creamy palate is redolent of citrus and peaches; well balanced and with a lingering and sustained finish. A very elegant wine. 96 2014 Moss Wood Amy's blend Bright and vibrant, this blend of Cabernet, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec exhibits blackcurrant, plums and mulberries on the nose, with juicy fruit on the palate; oak supports the fruit well; drinking beautifully now. 93 2014 Moss Wood Pinot Noir Light and brightly coloured with a perfumed nose showing floral notes, cherries and peppery spice. Juicy fruit with hints of sour cherry and pepper on the medium bodied palate flow through to a delicate and lingering finish. 94 2013 Moss Wood Ribbon Vale Cabernet Sauvignon This was an eye opener, the first Cabernet Sauvignon from Ribbon Vale. Deep red with blackcurrant, mulberry and plum aromas, and just a hint of mint; the spicy palate has some smoky elements, full bodied with dark fruit flavours finishing with grace and balance. 96 2013 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon A worthy entrant into the pantheon of great wines from Moss Wood. Deep crimson hue with a highly aromatic nose of violets, mulberries, blackcurrant, olive leaf, tarry plums and mint; the palate shows flavours of dark chocolate, plums, mulberries and restrained spice. Supple tannins and well integrated oak lead to a long, persistent, mouth filling finish. 98 Moss Wood Ribbon Vale NV Botrytis Sauvignon Blanc Semillon This is a beauty. Light gold with apricot and candied oranges on the nose; luscious rich palate with flavours of honey, figs, dried apricots but with a delicate citrus edge that balances the wine, keeping it fresh and lively. 96 Two older wines were also on display - first a 2003 Moss Wood Semillon which showed just how beautifully this variety ages - golden hued, lifted honey aromas, and a generous palate of honey and citrus. Years to go yet - I had a 2002 a few weeks ago which was equally impressive. And finally a 2001 Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon - dark brick red, with aromas of blackcurrants and prunes, backed up by a hint of mint and perfumed violet; the palate exhibited flavours of dark plums, dark chocolate and mulberries. Aging gracefully with many years in front of it - again I had a 2002 a few weeks ago which was also in superb shape.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch at this fancy restaurant on the Swan River. Sat in a booth in the 'upper level' (still with a nice view of harbor and city) to avoid the more cramped seating arrangements by the windows. Overall we had a very good experience with mostly very good food, a nice wine, and outstanding service. As an example of the service, we were offered to try a few whites; before deciding on a bottle of Chardonnay blend ($60 Margaret river Amigos), which was excellent. The staff had other useful suggestions about the food, which was appreciated. On what we ate: - Our pork belly entree was nice but not wow. - The barramundi main was delicious. The fish was prepared perfectly and the pairings with lentils, celeriac purée, and chorizo (!) was great. - The fish pasta main was a big disappointment. Too oily and the smoked salmon was way too overpowering. The squid and shrimp were perfectly done, but drowned out in the rest of the dish. Real shame. - The dessert (Christmas pudding) was again delightful. Fish pasta could have dropped this review in 3-star category (also considering the steep price of $45), but the overall experience was great.

Yelp
Wedding anniversaries, corporate lunches or as I witnessed this afternoon; singlet wearing blokes with cash to splash (yes I mean Cashed Up Bogans); Matilda Bay plays part to no-holds-barred dining. Ok, so these cashed up bogan types were an exception (if not a little arrogant), Matilda Bay Restaurant is a fine-dining establishment, where I would recommend scrubbing up for. It's an old Perth favourtie and the views are lovely; throngs of sailboats nestled in the rippling navy bay of the Swan River. The menu features excellent seafood options, conducive to its location. Mains range from $38 for a shallot tart (an art piece on a plate) to; $78 (holey smokes!) for a seafood platter for one (not two, one). I ordered the Hot smoked salmon fillet, courgette, caper and confit garlic, lemon aioli and never looked back. It's the best seafood dish I've had in a very long time! The décor is tasteful, but nothing to write home about and the service is professional without being stuffy or obtrusive. Matilda Bay Restaurant exceeded my expectations. I predicted I might write it off as "overrated, overhyped" but it's not. It's one of the few high-end restaurants that continue to wow diners with their amazing food and a venue that hasn't relied on its unrivaled waterfront views.

Yelp
I went to beautiful wedding at Matilda Bay over the summer break. The wedding was by the water at Matilda Bay near Stirling Highway, and then we walked to Matilda Bay Restaurant for the reception. The view from the restaurant is so beautiful, so Perthect, and ideal for a wedding. The wedding I attended was in a small room on the lower north side of the building. The room opening up into a courtyard, which had lounges. It almost had a bit of a bar vibe. The food wasn't amazing, nothing cutting edge or overly delicious, but good enough to line the stomach when you're drinking a lot at a wedding. Sliders, paella, spinach and ricotta puffs, pizza, spring rolls and a few more party classics. This cocktail style wedding was so much fun and so relaxing, and I think the view and the alfresco area with lounges was really conducive to this.

Yelp
I went to dinner here to celebrate my 28th Birthday and it was our (husband and I) first time at Matilda Bay R+B. I chose it based on reviews at the last minute, as my fave restaurant was closed for a function - because of this we had a late 8.30pm reservation on a Friday. We arrived a little early and had a drink in the bar, and my passionfruit cocktail was lovely. When we were taken to our table we got a seat right by the window which was nice, but it was a real shame that the outdoor floodlights were trained on the grass and not on the water - it meant that the view wasn't easy to see (but the people walking their dogs past the restaurant were). The moon was reflecting on the water and that was pretty, so I think they should aim the lights out onto the water a bit to amplify that ambiance. The restaurant was packed and it was NOISY! Not really the romantic ambiance I was expecting, but the restaurant cant be blamed for that. My husband compared the ambiance to a jolly RSL club! Quite funny really :-) We planned to have 3 courses, but after waiting with our menus for over 10 minutes we had cooled on the idea. When a staff member finally took our drinks order we asked for tap water and were told it wasn't available - we had to buy a bottle of still for $8.50... which we found a bit rich! Another 10 minutes passed before our main order was taken by a different staff member (we flagged them down) and we chose to go main only. Another 30 minutes and we were presented with meals that looked ok, but were less than thrilling. My duck was dry, and my husbands roulade was basically minced and rolled meat with a 'sauce from a jar' dumped on top. It took even longer for staff to clear the table afterwards, but after the lacklusture service they did manage to come along with a wet cloth and wipe down the table... too bad they just barged in whilst we were holding hands across the table, didn't ask if it was ok (they didn't actually say a word - they just gestured) and then left the table wet so my husband's sleeves ended up soggy. Wow, classy. Finally we decided to skip dessert and ask for the bill, but when we finally got yet another staff members attention they just shoved dessert menus in our hands and walked off. No words or anything! We tried to call out and they just walked off! 10 minutes later they came for our dessert order, at which time we told them we wanted the bill. The waiter just took the menus and walked off again but our bill did arrive 5 mins later so we were able to pay and leave. The waiters (we had at least 4) were generally pretty appaling, but to be fair it would have been difficult to hear them even if they had spoken, because it was so niosy in there. I have to say at this point that I rarely leave reviews this long, but I was really disappointed with this meal and service because the restaurant is reputed to be a Perth fine dining institution, and it was a pretty negative experience overall. My husband and I are no strangers to spending $300+ on a special occasion meal (which this was meant to be), but are just as happy with a cheap place... so long as expectations are met. Unfortunately in the case of Matilda Bay R+B expectations were certainly not met.

Yelp
Wonderful dinning experience there last night. Five of us walked in without booking but the staff got the table ready in few mins. The food was excellent. I had the lamb and parfait. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the lychee parfait was sweet. sourness of the raspberry sauce balanced it. Delicious! The serving size is bit tiny for me though cuz I am a girl who can eat. Haha.

Yelp
This was our first time at Matilda Bay Restaurant but I'm sure it won't be our last. From the moment we arrived the service was impeccable. Friendly and attentive, you can't do better than that. The food was also amazing. The prices are quite high but this is a fine dining restaurant, probably somewhere more suited for special occasions and celebrations.

Yelp
Beautiful view and incredible food. Was a very romantic dinner for a special occasion. They even wrote Happy Birthday on the Birthday Boy's dessert.

Yelp
I have been numerous wedding and engagement receptions at Matilda Bay over the past 12 months and every time it shines. The location is brilliant, with views of the Swan River, Kings Park and the city. The service was impeccable, the staff were professional and attentive. The food was delicious, the wine fantastic and the company even better. Food is on the more expensive side, but I think well worth it. Would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone. My friends who have had events there have raved about the professionalism of the staff.

Yelp
Earlier this year I was taken here as a surprise for lunch and it was amazing! From the service to the food and the view! Really recommend this place and everything that put in front of us looked and tasted amazing!

Yelp
We brought my in-laws here for birthday lunch. Let's get a couple of things out of the way before I get to the good stuff. The carparking is a bit of a nightmare through no fault of the restaurant. The UWA has irresponsibly allowed their students to pretty much take over the carpark outside and around the restaurant. There were cars parked haphazardly everywhere. Even in are where there are signage saying for restaurant customers only and no standing. There were even cars parked where there weren't supposed to be alloyed spots. Both he university and the council need to sort this out. We drove around for a while to find a spot to park. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were shown our table by a young girl with an untidy short dress on. We were beginning to think it was gonna be an 'interesting' service. But no. Read on. Our main server was a very professional (posh sounding) young man with a full head of dark hair (ok I am only providing this description as we didn't get his name and my MIL was well impressed by this young man's hair). He was dressed meticulously and attentive without being overbearing. My partner turned to me and said "Good to be looked after by someone who knows what he's doing!". This is so true. For entree, we had the Salmon and Tiger Prawns. The salmon was melt in your mouth and the prawns were interestingly crunchy. For mains we had the Grilled Fish of the Day (it was swordfish today), Braised Lamb Shanks Risotto and Crispy Confit Duck Leg. We also had sides of creamy royal blue mash (best mash ever!!!) and steamed mixed green vegetables. There was nothing to fault on any of the mains or sides. They were all cooked to perfection. The surprise came at dessert time, our lovely server brought out a mini birthday cake for my MIL. That made an elderly lady very happy and felt very special. I, being the little piggy that I am, ordered the cheesecake. It.was.divine! It was a deconstructed chocolate cheese cake with a raspberry macaroon and chocolate praline crunch. Matilda Bay, today you hit the trifecta in our books: Service, Food and Views. My in-laws are very fussy eaters but they had a wonderful time today. Special thanks to the awesome staff who was our server today. He made our visit a joyful experience. (My FIL looked around for him to personally give him a tip - it wasn't a lot but he wanted him to have it)

Yelp
Wagyu sirloin was fantastic. Chargrilled outside and tender rare inside. 240gm and $52. The crab linguini we had as an entree. Crunchy topping. The roast rump was juicy with Bernaise $72 for two to share. The duck was juicy with a bed of shiitake mushrooms & onions. Salty brown sauce for $42. Good service and friendly staff. Great views of yachts and Swan river.

Yelp
After searching for god knows how long for a nice menu that Creme Brûlée for dessert Matilda Bay was the destination for a 30th dinner. There were great elements and not so good. Ordered cocktails and bread to start and it took so long to come it came at same time as entrees. I kept having to chase things up and follow-up. Mains were perfect and sides were tasty. Dessert was disappointing though. Brûlée was awful and parfait was missing something extra. Given the bill came to over $300 for 2 people while we enjoyed it I wouldn't rush back.

Yelp
In the COVID-19 era, when things are totally disrupted, Matilda Bay Restaurant have stepped up to offer amazing food to nurture us and give us back the feeling of the good ol' times. Today was my wedding anniversary, and I saw they were offering meals at amazing prices. We ordered and sure, the food might not have been ready at the planned time, but that didn't matter. Clearly the team are working hard for us and the quality of the meal, while take-away, was 100% restaurant standard. Well done guys, you have made my day and we will be eating with you again, in our backyard, with incredible food made by you. Please hang in there in these difficult times, you are an institution and every single person who is working for you today is a champion. We just saw that. xxx

Yelp
Very disappointing. My wife and I had our wedding at Matilda Bay in 1998 and we have fond memories of excellent food and service so we decided to go back for our wedding anniversary. The views are still fantastic but the rest of the experience could be compared to going to the local pub for a meal. This is probably unfair to our local pub where we have never had a bad meal. To start we ordered two bloody Mary's but they both tasted different. Oyster Kirkpatrick were drowned in a sweet tasting wooster style sauce and very little bacon. These were also served with a small fork only and no spoon to help search for the bacon. My main course of pork was overcooked and dry. We were told the meals came complete so sides were not necessary but the pork was served with a small pot of tasteless potato salad. My wife's main of lamb was well prepared but also served without any extras. We were served by four different people so there wasn't any personal service. At no time were we asked if we would like to order any wine but the wine glasses were taken away before the entre was finished. They were returned to the end of the table when I indicated that we would need them but as we weren't offered any wine we didn't need them anyway. We kept amused by swapping bloody Mary's and trying to guess what was missing and from which glass. I told one of the waitresses that the pork was overcooked, dry and not pleasant to eat and she assured me she would tell the chef. We decided to skip the desert and try and find somewhere else to finish the evening. When asked how everything was at the till, I outlined most of the above and this was received with mild degree of interest but no concern. We paid the bill in full and left in search of somewhere to have desert. oh, one nice touch was that we were given a small square of mud cake with HAPPY ANIVERSARY written in chocolate sauce around the plate...

Yelp
Had a celebration dinner here tonight with son and husband. We were all very pleased with our entrees and main meals. Serving sizes weren't huge but were as expected (we all just enjoy our food and are used to larger portions in cheaper restaurants!) Quality of the food was fantastic as expected from a fine dining establishment. Price was rather high but you have to expect that as you are also paying for the view and better service, which was very good especially since all the staff were quite young. And we couldn't really complain since we got a complimentary side dish of steamed vegetables to share with our meals. My only complaint would be, and I'm not sure what could be done about it.... We had a table by the open windows overlooking the bay, which was lovely, but we were constantly waving off flying midgees coming in the open window. One even landed in my cocktail unfortunately. The Restaurant was spacious, as it filled up there was still plenty of room between tables. Would certainly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion/treat as one of the top fine dining restaurants in Perth.

Yelp
Have been to this restaurant many times & it is a favourite of mine. In fact I've even been married there ( twice ) Went yesterday for lunch & found it better than ever. We both had the luncheon 2 course special for $48 which includes a glass of Pepperilly wine. I had the pork belly entre 10/10 followed by the lamb chops , Amelia park just 2 & cooked to perfection. All in all great food, great location , great service & very reasonable @ $175 for 2 which included a $9 tip. Peter Hugall Perth.

Yelp
Romantic birthday dinner for the fiancé-table in the corner with sea views either side, the pork entree most definitely worth investigating!! Service was fantastic - our waitress was very helpful on menu selection and all the wait staff were excellent at avoiding the awkward hover-are they finished yet/do they need a wine top up dance that I hate so much! Overall, excellent birthday outing, would definitely do again.

Yelp
I had my wedding booked here for the 29th of September this year and was told that the restaurant had cancelled my booking six weeks away from my wedding day! And by email as they no longer wanted to open on the Queens birthday public holiday Monday. No phone call, an email. I had sent invitations out weeks prior and arranged all my vendors and transport to deliver to this venue so I went into panic mode! I had to ring twice to even get put through to the Directing Manager. After getting through to him I received an arrogant attitude from him and received absolutely no apology or any concern from the Directing Manager, he was very blasé that he was cancelling such an important function and repeatedly asked me what I'd like him to do, the restaurant was closed, he even suggested I move my wedding date to suit him and after me having to push the point of him trying to rectify the situation he reluctantly agreed to open the restaurant (his words were I guess we have to!) but assured me that I was making him open the restaurant and it would be at a loss to him financially. Through the entire phone call he gave off such a disgusting attitude that I was somehow a nuisance by daring to ring and ask why my wedding venue had been cancelled at such short notice!! If there was a genuine reason for this happening and I had been treated with the respect I deserve and not treated like a nuisance I could have been understanding. I had a think about it and decided I don't want his negative arrogant attitude involved it what will be happy day so I'm no longer using the restaurant as my venue. This may be a nice restaurant but the customer service I received from the Directing Manager was appalling, how he's created a successful business with such atrocious customer service skills is beyond me.

Yelp
Dinner with a backdrop of the Perth skyline reflecting off the bay while the boats huddle around their moorings. Gorgeous Autumn night and a perfect place for out of town clients to enjoy a taste of Perth. Our service was faultless as we asked to move from table to a booth for 7. Wait staff took orders efficiently, didn't push to serve more beverages and reduced our bill when we didn't consume the last unopened bottle of wine. I had fleshy oysters with Tabasco and freshly squeezed lime for entree. The rest of the party had prawns. For main I had Angus fillet medium rare with chips, salad, pepper sauce. Others had similar with two going for barramundi. Superb all round. We downed a bottle of Fraser Gallop 2009 cab sav...and left the Leeuwin Estate Art Series SB unopened. At just over $100/person for the experience and quality, I rate this old dear with new(er) feathers highly.
