A short drive from Citrus Park, Matjoa’s new Hillsborough County location brings back tabletop grilling, house marinades, and scratch-made sides. Creative Loafing and Tampa Bay press covered the 2025 relocation and soft opening, signaling a welcome boost to the local K‑BBQ scene.

Decided to try out the new Korean BBQ place. It was EXCELLENT! Service was great, everyone was super friendly and helpful. The variety of meats and vegetable dishes was absolutely delicious! Tried Combo A which included brisket, pork belly, shrimp, teriyaki chicken and beef bulgogi ( melted in mouth it was so tender). The picked onions, marinated bean sprouts, seafood side dish, steamed egg, seaweed, kimchi, were all so tasty. Loved the radish wraps, lettuce and rice also, so you had options for every bite. The sauces were also very good, my favorite was the sesame oil with salt and pepper. Definitely coming back soon!

I have never eaten Korean BBQ before and I have to say this was a great experience. The food was full of flavor. The staff was friendly and informative. I will definitely be back!

The absolute best Korean restaurant in Florida. I’m extremely picky when it comes to Korean food cause nothing is better than mama’s cooking but this place makes me feel like I’m back home. Truly authentic food and you can tell there’s not a single corner being cut in the quality of the ingredients. It’s so refreshing to finally have a place in Tampa where the owners treat you like family and cook up some good food. I recommend going daily in order to try every single thing on the menu.

The food was good, but absolutely not worth the $46 price tag when the service is this bad. Only three employees were running the entire place, and it showed — everything was painfully slow. Getting meat, sides, or even basic attention was like pulling teeth. For a restaurant that charges on the higher end, the lack of staffing and care for customers is unacceptable. I spent most of the night waiting instead of eating. Honestly, this was one of the worst service experiences I’ve had — the food can’t make up for it. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values their customers.

I’ve came in twice and the food is great but the hospitality is even greater! The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are so kind and welcoming. I really feel at home here. I enjoyed my server from the owner, Sangah. She made their opening quite an experience and I know this will be a frequent stop for me!

WOW! An amazing experience, from the moment we walked in the door we were treated like family. The staff was great, the food was incredible and they made sure we were full and happy before we left! Even the owner came by our table and chatted with us. Nothing but good things to say about this small family owned oasis in a world of blah corporate copycats. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to an evening at Matjoa’s, we’ll definitely be back!!

I really wanted to love this spot as the reviews were so high. There was nothing about my experience that was bad, but it definitely didn’t live up to the hype for me personally. The banchan were all very tasty and very authentic to taste. The radish tased a little out of season, but can easily look past this. Ordered the steamed egg, buddaejjiggae and bibim nyeongman. I thought the steamed egg tasted fantastic. The noodles were fine in my opinion, although my mother didn’t love them. The buddaejjigae I’ve been eyeing for a while considering it’s typically a dish served for two or more and individual servings are hard to find at Korean spots in the US. But the dish was too sweet… the addition of carrots and red bell pepper definitely overpowered a dish that’s typically spicy and savory with an unwanted sweetness. For the price point I was hoping for some more spam, and the fact it was cut in to strips that were nearly razor thin was disappointing. Overall it was a fine meal and I would definitely go back and eat here again. But I would try some different dishes. It’s in a great location with plenty of parking and the ambiance is nice. They just relocated from Clearwater to their new home and I wish them all the best success.

My family came for dinner on Saturday and were blown away by the experience! The staff and owners are warm, friendly, informative, and attentive. The food was excellent! We decided to try the table side grill experience and it did not disappoint. It is difficult to choose a favorite item when all were so fresh and packed with flavor. The kimchi assortment and Korean sides were amazing. The spicy pork was definitely a stand out for me. Even the picky 9 year old at the table enjoyed the interactive cultural experience and tried most of the food offerings. After his first bite of steak he exclaimed that he wanted to come back weekly. This was a wonderful opportunity for my family to slow down and enjoy a delicious meal! Even if the table side grill experience isn't for you, they have a wide variety of appetizers, soups, and entrees all made fresh in-house to satisfy your appetite. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again!
