A short drive from Citrus Park, Matjoa’s new Hillsborough County location brings back tabletop grilling, house marinades, and scratch-made sides. Creative Loafing and Tampa Bay press covered the 2025 relocation and soft opening, signaling a welcome boost to the local K‑BBQ scene.

The absolute best Korean restaurant in Florida. I’m extremely picky when it comes to Korean food cause nothing is better than mama’s cooking but this place makes me feel like I’m back home. Truly authentic food and you can tell there’s not a single corner being cut in the quality of the ingredients. It’s so refreshing to finally have a place in Tampa where the owners treat you like family and cook up some good food. I recommend going daily in order to try every single thing on the menu.

I have never eaten Korean BBQ before and I have to say this was a great experience. The food was full of flavor. The staff was friendly and informative. I will definitely be back!

WOW! An amazing experience, from the moment we walked in the door we were treated like family. The staff was great, the food was incredible and they made sure we were full and happy before we left! Even the owner came by our table and chatted with us. Nothing but good things to say about this small family owned oasis in a world of blah corporate copycats. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to an evening at Matjoa’s, we’ll definitely be back!!

I’ve came in twice and the food is great but the hospitality is even greater! The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are so kind and welcoming. I really feel at home here. I enjoyed my server from the owner, Sangah. She made their opening quite an experience and I know this will be a frequent stop for me!

I really wanted to love this spot as the reviews were so high. There was nothing about my experience that was bad, but it definitely didn’t live up to the hype for me personally. The banchan were all very tasty and very authentic to taste. The radish tased a little out of season, but can easily look past this. Ordered the steamed egg, buddaejjiggae and bibim nyeongman. I thought the steamed egg tasted fantastic. The noodles were fine in my opinion, although my mother didn’t love them. The buddaejjigae I’ve been eyeing for a while considering it’s typically a dish served for two or more and individual servings are hard to find at Korean spots in the US. But the dish was too sweet… the addition of carrots and red bell pepper definitely overpowered a dish that’s typically spicy and savory with an unwanted sweetness. For the price point I was hoping for some more spam, and the fact it was cut in to strips that were nearly razor thin was disappointing. Overall it was a fine meal and I would definitely go back and eat here again. But I would try some different dishes. It’s in a great location with plenty of parking and the ambiance is nice. They just relocated from Clearwater to their new home and I wish them all the best success.

Always a great experience here and it’s been my go to for authentic Korean dining since their Clearwater days, but tonight was exceptional. We had a party of 8 and the place was packed, but the staff was able to seat us within a reasonable time. Half way through our dining experience, we experienced issues with the grills. Joe and the staff did not hesitate to jump in and try to resolve the issues. I appreciate their attentiveness and service. Despite their new location being 30 minutes away from my home now, I will not hesitate to drop in for a meal, especially with the level of service they provided most recently. If you want good, authentic, Korean dishes in Florida with the atmosphere to match, this is the place to be.

We ordered takeout. The food was very tasty. My wife says it’s authentic. She ordered mackerel, I ordered squid. The setup (the little dishes that Korean restaurants serve before the meal) was a nice touch and I didn’t expect them with takeout. We used to drive 40 minutes to another great Korean restaurant. Now we’ll be going to Matjoa.

I’ve been waiting for this place to reopen!!! The only reason I can survive this hot summer is Matjoa!!! 😍😍 If you’re craving authentic Korean flavors, this place is a must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the aroma of grilled meats and spicy stews hits you—in the best way possible. The staff is warm, attentive, and always ready to recommend something new. It’s a perfect spot for both casual dinners and special occasions. Highly recommend it to anyone wanting a real taste of Korea without the airfare!❤️💙🇰🇷
