"This simple “izakaya” is run by two young partners from the Dominican Republic who have embarked upon their first solo venture following several years working in restaurants in Barcelona. Thankfully, it has had a positive impression on locals thanks to their friendly approach and the varied selection of Japanese-inspired cuisine on offer, featuring an array of modern touches and dishes teeming with flavour. Here, you’ll also find the usual nigiri and sashimi, but almost everyone veers towards the crispy shiso starter with burrata stracciatella, truffled honey and Iberian pork jowl, the varied choice of sushi rolls, and ending with a dish or two cooked on the robata grill, such as the superb Katshu Sando, a fusion between the popular smoked pork chops from the Dominican Republic and tonkatsu sauce from Japan." - Michelin Inspector

The most spectacular sushi and food I have ever eaten. 10/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone - so amazingly delicious. Amazing service, wine and food

Excellent restaurant, with passionate owners who are dedicated to making their guests have the best possible experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the explanations and recommendations given, the nigiri were exceptional, as well as the wagyu. Inky the best ingredients are sourced and is priced accordingly yet it’s totally worth it for a true dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere.

Absolutely incredible restaurant, a must visit in Palamós! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, taking the time to explain each dish and making us feel right at home. They were also wonderfully accommodating with our young daughter, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Be sure to book in advance, as this place fills up quickly and for good reason!

this place is amazing. you absolutely need to come here if in palamos. we came 2x in one trip and we insist that when we come back to spain, we will make a stop here just for this place. —- edit —- i went back one year later, still the best Japanese i’ve ever had as an avid traveler!

Not yet an izakaya, not yet a sushi bar, not an Asian gastropub. Definitely not enough food to fill your stomach, and not fast food either. None of the fish was raw, the flavors were uninteresting, and the rolls with soft-shell crab were just awful. The only good part was the staff - they were great. Maybe previous visitors have never eaten in a real izakaya in Kyoto or Hong Kong… But I think it could be better. For now, I would not recommend it.

An amazing restaurant. We went twice in the one week. The quality of the food and the creativity on display was incredible. I cannot recommend Matsu highly enough. Can’t wait to come back.

Lovely Japanese fusion restaurant with a clear identity. Classic Japanese dishes are modernised but remain true to their original form. The addition of new and local ingredients is innovative and mostly importantly, it works. Service was excellent and the owners are clearly passionate about their craft. A must if you are in Palamos.
