The Best Restaurants in Seattle’s Pioneer Square | Eater Seattle

"Situated on Stadium Place a football’s throw away from Lumen Field, Matsu’s space is serene and modern with nods to traditional Japanese interior design. Matsu boasts a daily happy hour (4 to 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. until close) with nigiri and sashimi sets, rolls, appetizers, and drinks. Specialty rolls, an omakase tasting menu, and other Japanese dishes can be found during dinner service. Locals might also recognize the Korean fried chicken wings on Matsu’s menu, and yes— those are the same wings from Girin, the beloved Korean steakhouse that occupied the space until 2019." - Joey Carreon

Where to Eat Before the Game in Seattle | Eater

"Sushi comprises the bulk of the menu at Pioneer Square’s Matsu, whose striking interior is all high ceilings and polished wood. The list ranges from stripped-down sashimi to decadent specialty rolls stuffed with fish and veggies and piled with additional delicacies, while some simpler rolls like spicy tuna find the middle ground. Hot Japanese bar food has its place, too, such as fried calamari and yakisoba noodles; drinks range from sake flights to Northwest bubbles." - Vox Creative

Came here for a work event during happy hour. Very impressed by the sushi and appetizers. The chicken wings (full wing) were especially delicious 😋 Would definitely come back for more!

Visiting from out of state and made reservations here on a Saturday night. The restaurant was not crowded, and the overall ambiance was very chill and comforting. Bartenders were very sweet & provided great service. All of the food items I picked out were delicious and had great flavor. Highly recommended.

The food was amazing, clean strong flavours. I got bar service not dining. The service was exceptional, miles the bartender made my night. Great conversation and super friendly, with exceptional choices of whiskey for me to try. Would 100% recommend to everyone.

Had the pleasure of sitting with Miles at the bar who helped me pick some amazing options! Happy Hour Sashimi Special 10/10 Happy Hour Garlic Short Ribs 8.5/10 Bluefin Tuna Sampler 20/10 Gladiator Sushi Roll 10/10 Everything was delicious. But what I want to point out is how absolutely fresh and buttery the raw sushi was. It’s good quality dish prepared well.

We came when it wasn't too busy inside and the service was amazing. They were really accommodating as we were a group of 4 with 2 children under 3yrs old. We unknowingly got there with minutes before HH would be over, but they were cool to let us look over the menu and place an order off of it still. In total we ordered around 10 plates, a ramen, hot sake and 2 Sapporos and spent ~$230

I didn’t plan on visiting this place, but while passing by, the cute and inviting design caught my eye, so we decided to give it a try. From the moment we walked in, the experience was incredible. The hostess greeted us immediately, and the interior design was stunning. Our server, Ava, was fantastic! She greeted us right away and brought edamame and water within 30 seconds of us sitting down. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and patiently answered all our questions. The service was impressively fast—our food arrived in under 5 minutes after ordering (granted, it was a Wednesday evening, but they still had a decent number of tables around). The food was amazing! We started with the Crispy Calamari, which was perfect—not greasy like most places and paired with a fresh salad and a sweet/sour orange dressing that was delicious. We also had a classic California roll (very good!) and a Seattle roll, to which I asked to add cream cheese for a Philadelphia roll vibe—it turned out amazing, with incredibly fresh fish! The green tea tempura dessert was okay—not my favorite, but all the seafood dishes were top-notch. What really surprised me was the pricing. For such a fancy-looking spot in the historical heart of Seattle, near King Street Station, I expected much higher prices. For everything we ordered—edamame, Crispy Calamari, California roll, Seattle roll, 3 sake salmon sushi, a tea pod, and green tea tempura—the total came to only $71.72 after taxes. It was more than enough food for two people! Overall, the experience was fantastic. Huge shoutout to Ava—she’s an absolute treasure and made our visit unforgettable! Great customer service is so rare these days, and she truly stood out. Everything was excellent, and I’ll definitely be coming back!

It was good, we came did a quick bite for happy hour and the prices were really good. Had a couple beers. I’ll definitely come back again for dinner sometime.

Great place to stop by and grab some food before a show or a game. Yes, it’s pricey, and there is no denying that. However, I also cannot deny the convenience and the taste. The Atari Sunset was delicious, and it’s a very friendly cocktail for those who can’t really stomach the taste of liquor. I myself had a Mule and it was decent. We had a few of the rolls and the chicken karage. Everything was very tasty.

Yelp
I needed some fuel after a long day. We had our suitcases straight from the ferry stations and walked here. The host was incredibly sweet and offered to take our bags. She put them in a closet behind the host table. This was so nice especially since we had a lot of bags we were carrying. We were seated immediately. I highly recommend coming during happy hour. There were only 5 minutes left and our server took our order immediately which was so kind. We were able to put in an order of the Seattle roll (salmon avocado roll) and some nigiri. The fish was absolutely delicious. I loved what we ordered. I added another order with scallop, eel, and salmon belly sushi. They were all delicious. The food came out quickly too. This restaurant is super stylish. There is plenty of seating available. There was even a 21+ only seating section. They had women and men restrooms. It was a pretty hip and trendy spot. I highly recommend eating here if you're in the area.

Yelp
The food took awhile to get to us. The calamari was already a bit cold and we were expecting it to be warmer, but the karage was warmer though (both arrived at the same time). We asked our server if she could have our calamari heated up. The omakase was pretty good size and had a good selection. The caterpillar roll was just your typical unagi roll, and there were cuts that were thinner than expected and easily fell apart when using chopsticks to hold it. Also we were not happy with the agedashi tofu, they used a firmer tofu and we were expecting this to be more siken tofu texture. The grilled hamachi collar was definitely good though, and they did a great job with that one. Also the shrimp heads were fried perfectly as well. Overall it was a good experience but honestly not as memorable. But that's okay if you got great company. I think they were a little understaffed tonight because it also took awhile before they got our payment from us (after they gave us the check).

Yelp
Came in at 9 pm for happy hour. Regular dining room closed but bar open til 10. Smaller menu but plenty of stuff and decent prices. Had the sushi set c with a Seattle roll and some salmon sashimi. Wife got yellowtail sashimi and mapo tofu Also ordered 2 old fashioneds from the happy hour menu. House old fashioned uses old forresters bourbon. $9 Sushi was great, salmon sashimi had 3 pcs and the yellowtail 5. Everything was fresh and really tasty. Would definitely come back

Yelp
The food was quite good. The service was pretty slow and they looked understaffed. We went on a Friday. We asked for inside but were seated on the patio, which was kind of a bummer as we got asked for money by a houseless person several times while sitting and waiting for our food. The inside was really pretty and chill though so I think if we had been seated inside and service had been a bit faster, I'd definitely come back.
google avatar

Erin W.

Yelp
We arrived around 8:40 PM on a Friday. The restaurant was beautiful and spacious! The staff let us know that Happy Hour would start at 9 PM, so we decided to wait and take advantage of it. We ordered Sushi Set A, Sushi Set B, the Seattle Roll, and KFC Wings -- overall, a very good value. Toward the end of our meal, the server got a bit busy as the lounge filled up, so it took a little longer to get his attention. Parking wasn't bad -- free street parking was available nearby at that time.
google avatar

Hannah J.

Yelp
Right as you walk in you can already sense the freshness and authenticity in the sushi. When we got there it had just opened so we got the cushioned mat seating which I enjoyed as part of the experience. Their sake was a great pairing with these specific rolls which were all great, a bit spicy and the perfect mix. I'd love to see what this place looks like for a dinner!

Yelp
Happy hour from 4-550pm, we visited on. Tuesday and just barely made the cut off. Tables were full, and in constant rotation. Very close to the King St station. Parking garage across the street on the corner next to Lumen field. We scored street parking for 1 hour, paid $14. Chicken wings came 3 to an order, we ended up ordering three orders along with sushi & sashimi. Why cuz they were crispy, & perfectly glazed in a chili sweet bbq sauce. Sorry my fingers were happily too sticky to take pictures. Salmon sashimi was buttery and fresh. We asked for a Hurricane and the bartender crafted a beautiful ombré version, a perfect balance of fruity and sneaky. For a party of three including 3 beers & 2 cocktails, food and tip, we spent $235.

Yelp
Came here for a work event and waitress was rude and not accommodating. It was happy hour and she purposefully forced us to get drinks before and 3 minutes after happy hour time, she refused to take any happy hour orders.

Yelp
This was a wonderful sushi restaurant. The fish was fresh and the service was efficient. We got here in time for the happy hour specials before a Mariners game. Great job.

Yelp
I arrived on a weekday 4pm for Happy Hour. Instantly greeted by the hostess and my server. Free edamame right away. I ordered the HH set A. Every piece was delicious and was good quality. I was still hungry, so I ordered the HH unagi roll and the HH hamachi sashimi. For the quality of the items, I was very satisfied. Throughout my meal, my server checked up on me and filled up my water when it was low. I also asked him a question regarding the restaurant, and he was very personable. Ambiance is very clean, modern, hip, well-lit, and great service! I would definitely come back for HH or before a Mariners game. Lots of seating in the bar area and in the restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Great happy hour spot! Free bowl of edamame as we sat down was a nice touch. Service was attentive and came by regularly to check on us. We started with the hamachi kama that was a little overcooked but still flavorful, and sushi rolls are generous with the fish and not overloaded with rice. Old fashioned cocktail was really good, but the highball was a bit of a miss for me as it lacked any flavor (was like club soda straight). Interior is modern and clean, and the tables are spaced far enough that you're not intruding on other conversations. Highly recommend if you are staying across the street at Embassy Suites or on your way to a game at Lumen Field.

Yelp
Decent sushi spot near Lumen Field, a great location especially if you are already there before a sports game. I went here with my team as an offsite happy hour, making a reservation just in case but it was not busy at all especially on a Monday. We tried a variety of dishes from both the happy hour and main menu. I tried the garlic short ribs, baby back ribs, KFC wings, takoyaki, special kama (yellowtail), crispy calamari, crunchy Seattle roll, salmon skin roll, sashimi set, Matsu roll, and amaebi (sweet shrimp). The garlic short ribs were really good, just reminds me of ones similar to teriyaki places. The meat and tendon fall off the bone somewhat easily, so it is solid. The baby back ribs were pretty spicy and a little charred. The KFC wings were really good as well, which comes to no surprise it is one of the more popular items. The takoyaki was decent but pricey for a serving of 3 pieces. The yellowtail kama is really good - generous amount of meat and the happy hour one is pretty much half off the regular menu. The crispy calamari is good but not too memorable - I liked the miso sauce served on the side. Crunchy Seattle roll is deep fried with cream cheese and salmon so it could be a bit heavy, but the value is up there if you intend to fill up. The salmon skin roll is good but a bit on the sweet and salty side. The sashimi set is decent - 2 pieces each of some of the more common sashimi such as salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and albacore, and 1 piece of the shrimp. They were fresh for the most part, no complaints, no standouts. The Matsu roll is off the regular menu and has higher quality ingredients such as snow crab, and the yuzu enhances the dish further. At $25, it is quite pricey and I would not go out of my way to order it. The amaebi is a bit of a miss as the sweet shrimp is not too fresh and the deep fried head is way too huge and hard to chew compared to ones I have eaten at other places. Service is good as food comes up fairly quickly and water refills were present. Overall, this is a decent sushi spot that can be handy to go if you are in the area, but I would not go out of my way for.

Yelp
I'm SO glad my bf picked this place out of the selections I made for restaurants last Thursday bc it was awesome to experience! We had a show at WAMU theater after and once we saw Matsu, the outdoor and entryway of the restaurant is a nice structure. Wooden double doors and once you head in, it looks really nice. Our hostess was very hospitable! I'm glad we got the seats we did -- it has a little place to put my purse etc and tho it was originally for 4 ppl, it was a nice spot. They have happy hour until 6 so we ordered from there. Loved the sashimi donburi (you can choose salmon, tuna, spicy tuna etc as your protein -- happy hour $11). My favorite out of the 3 rolls was the cooked salmon roll! Their agedashi tofu was unique! Different than the others I've tried at other Japanese/ Asian fusion restaurants. Loved the drinks and our service was great! We will definitely come back :) especially if there is a game or show to look forward to!

Yelp
Came here for happy hour and it was pretty decent! Love the free edamame as soon as you sit down. A nice touch. The sushi set portions are on the smaller side, as well as fried oyster plate. But it is happy hour. Nice ambiance and great service. But there are better sushi around.
google avatar

Michele B.

Yelp
Came for the happy hour and was so pleasantly pleased! The service was beyond wonderful. The place was clean and modern. We ordered many items off their happy hour menu, which was extensive. We ordered adult beverages which were HEAVY and delicious. (Old Fashion and Shibu Inu were favorites.) Highly recommend!

Yelp
Stopped by after a Mariners game. Service once seated was a little slow, but the food was pretty good. Loved the sushi, but the garlic chicken wasn't the best. If going for sushi it was a great find.

Yelp
Great sushi find in a very zen environment, it's very very peaceful, almost spa like. The rolls and tuna app we got was great, fast service, reasonable prices in my opinion. Def would recommend if you're in PSQ.

Yelp
my boyfriend made reservations here for Valentine's Day as he enjoys sushi and I wanted to try some place new. We arrived around 5pm and it took a bit of time to find parking on the street, so I would advise scheduling ahead since you'll likely have to walk over. Once we got there, we checked in with the host and it wasn't very busy, so we were seated immediately in the back. There's many different parts to their MDF with a chefs counter, booth seating inside a wooden frame and window seating around with the bar in a separate area. The ambiance was pretty casual, not too loud and more private. It was really cold inside though, it seemed like the same temperature outside in. The service was okay, not very personable. They have you pull up the menu online and then you order. Food and drinks wise wasn't wowing. edamame: this was a complimentary starter given to us upon being seated. It lacked salt and was hard from being undercooked, so we didn't eat this. ultimate dragon: my boyfriend got this dish as his entree and said that the soy glaze at the bottom overpowered the dish making it very sweet karaage: this was his favorite dish as the breading was well seasoned and the chicken was cooked fresh. inari: nothing special, honestly what you would expect out of inari but it's served individual for $3 each which is a bit steep for the size imo yakiudon w/ tofu: I liked the overall flavoring of this dish was salty and savory esp. with a bunch of shichimi togarashi yum! the noodles however were gummy from being over cooked and the amount of udon seemed scarce passion fruit lemonade: I think I was most disappointed by this drink because I was expecting it to be refreshing and sweet with real passion fruit, but it was super tart. They also told me it was a syrup, so I sent it back and asked for it to be made sweeter. It came back a bit better, but it wasn't like I thought originally ordering overall, the experience and food was lackluster, so it was nice to try but wouldn't come back

Yelp
I just wanted a chill night before my wedding, so I went with my maid of honor. We were searching for sushi spot, and I'm so grateful there are not a lot of people here on a Saturday. I would even say this place is kind of like hidden gem. We got uni, and the waitress said it's straight from Japan. We tried it, and oh my! It's sweet and melted in my mouth, I didn't even want to finish it in first bite so I took two bites because it's too good and I feel so happy. Their other sushi were also amazing! Definitely going to come back all the time whenever I'm in Seattle!
google avatar

Jennine K.

Yelp
Came with a big big dinner party after a work event. They were able to seat us together at the center of the restaurant. Tons of different izakaya and sushi options on the menu! I also enjoyed their zero proof mocktail option! My favorite item was the uni shisho roll, and the very tender beef ribs. Food came out very quickly and the server was friendly and attentive to my food allergies. The only sad thing is that there wasn't any desserts available that evening due to an issue with their bakery. Would have loved to try their dessert options!
google avatar

Carol C.

Yelp
We were able to get in without a reservation on a Wednesday night and right before the 5:50 pm happy hour cutoff! I mainly come here for happy hour, which they offer in the bar and main dining room. Their HH menu is substantial with a wide variety of offerings. On this visit, we had the yellowtail kama, tempura platter, KFC wings, agadashi tofu, calamari and unagi roll. The kama was $8.00 and cooked to perfection, fish was tender and came with a side salad. The KFC wings is one of their signature appetizers, which is always solid. The agadashi tofu arrived at room temp and my sister didn't seem to mind. Service was prompt and friendly. We were constantly checked on. Side note: HH is not offered when there's an event at Lumen Field.
google avatar

Daizha E.

Yelp
Love this place! Stumbled across them via Yelp and didn't know this sister restaurant (of Momiji's and Umi Sake House) existed! I would definitely say it is on the classier and pricier side out of the three but the delicious rolls still stand true. We got so many that I can't even remember but everything we tried was so good! A perfect spot to go before or after a Mariners game too!
google avatar

LaMecia M.

Yelp
Came on aa Friday and our companions were locals and chose it because of the happy hour however it was a game day so that menu was invalid. Regardless we tried a fee different sushi options the dumplings (not pictured) and karaage chicken. We liked everything and my dinner mates enjoyed their alcoholic drinks. It got busy but our server was quick and did regular checkins until we left.
google avatar

Kyla S.

Yelp
The best tar tar I've ever had. Also, the Chirashi Bowl was probably the best bang for your buck and super tasty. The restaurant was a tad warm and we were all sweating, but they refilled our water's consistently. We learned that's pretty standard (warm spots) in Seattle while visiting though. Good and fresh sushi.
google avatar

Rach C.

Yelp
It was ok. I had high expectations because the ambiance were nice and classy, but the food was ok and for the price, I feel like I could go somewhere else that will have better fish and portions. Service edamame were a nice touch though
google avatar

Philicia S.

Yelp
Great service, beautiful ambience. I've been here years ago when they first opened, at the time I was more into specialty rolls, and the specialty rolls are good. Ankimo is still delicious, but when it comes to the nigiri, it definitely falls short. Rice is really overcooked. Uni - from Santa Barbara was NOT good, I almost threw up. And I'm an uni lover, it has that lower grade quality and flavor. Scallop tastes fresh and clean Ikura okay, too much rice ratio Amaebi was actually really good, but the head was served to me somewhat lukewarm Blue fin tuna sampler was probably my favorite, but the rice quality kind if ruined it, overcooked and not well portioned for the fish, and also a little too big for one bite. Negihama roll was good, simple, again rice is overcooked and just doesn't taste right California roll and crunchy lizard, my son enjoyed both Spicy tuna roll, did not like it, the tuna itself was too blended so it had really no fish texture, these kinds of rolls tastes better when the fish its chopped by hand. Was not spicy at all, asked for habanero sauce and they brought me a sweet habanero sauce on a plate. I just hate when there's that much sweetness on something spicy (tearssss) Anywho I was expecting a nice dinner with great sushi, but it's definitely a place with casual quality sushi components. I actually skipped Kura to come here, and I would've probably had the same experience there foodwise. Service from front to dining room, to leaving was excellent. Really great team they have working together. Beautiful ambience, nice intimate setting. I personally do not recommend any nigiri style sushi here, due to the quality of rice. But I can say if you order sashimi, you can get a decent meal sashimi style. Also wish they had better champagne by the glass options, a dry bubble would be nice, I decided on sake, and did not like the sohomare much, it had a bitter aftertaste, dassai 45 nigori was good, a little too sweet but I enjoy dassais. Sons passion fruit lemonade was really great! See photos

Yelp
Beautiful space for a range of occasions. The food was good, but the standard menu for whichever parent company owns Matsu and Momiji -- nothing unique but all well done. We had the gyoza (which was vegan friendly), spicy tuna roll (where the tuna is mashed instead of whole and sliced) and an array of sushi/sashimi. The interior is beautiful, ornate, and bright -- there are fountains and a cool structure in the middle of the restaurant. The bar is more dim and romantic of a setting. Service was quick and staff was very polite. There is generally plenty of parking available, but not on event days as the stadiums are very nearby.
google avatar

Saumya A.

Yelp
Wanted to try Matsu for sometime so went here during TaylorSwift concert night. I had high hopes on it that they would have good veggie options but i was disappointed. I think its Not a vegetarian-friendly place . There were only few options and we ordered three dishes and I wouldn't says they were appealing or good. Mushroom gyoza- server said that its vegan, but we got the taste of egg in it so we left it half eaten (server didn't even remove it from the bill) Green decadence roll - they were just ok, nothing special about them. Only thing that we could finish. Yakiudon tofu noodles- they were also just ok, nothing special. Somehow they made it little creamy probably due to usage of lot of oil and salt, which we didn't like. Service was not at all good. Host was friendly but our server was not at all. Only when she brought the bill to us (food is expensive), she talked to us to know how we are doing. Before that, no conversation at all. Ambiance was just ok as well, i think we sat outside so we could hear TS songs, but the restaurant was playing their own radio songs, so it seemed like a loud place. Also we could see couple of homeless folks making noises. Inside was still a bit better.

Yelp
The service was amazing as well as the food! Going to come here every time I visit Seattle from now on!!

Yelp
Well made sushi in a stylish space. Had a reservation for two on a Thursday evening. Fresh and neatly crafted rolls with a perfect filling to rice ratio. Happy Hour prices are great too. The size of the pieces are nice and bite sides. The complimentary edamame is a cherry on top. All Happy Hour prices below: Drinks: -Leeward Breeze ($8) -Draft IPA ($1 off) Food: -Unagi Roll ($8) -Spicy Tuna ($7) -Seattle Roll ($7) -Salmon Skin ($7) Polite, attentive staff

Yelp
Had a nice dinner at Matsu! Swung by on a Tuesday and came away very full with plenty of leftovers. While we enjoyed some dishes more than others, I appreciated the fast service and complimentary edamame. The sweet shrimp and rolls were a particular highlight. Nice spot overall.

Yelp
Matsu is hands the go to place for my family and I for a nice dinner out in Seattle. My husband and son love sushi, I love Asian food and we have an infant. The sushi is great quality with so many different plate, roll and set options. The hot food items are amazing with so much variety. Kamachi collar and spicy seafood ramen are my favorites. We have a young kid and infant so we eat early dinners and the HH is the best anywhere (Seattle or Eastside, which is where we live). The space is so large I don't feel cramped our scared by crowds coming here with my 4 month old. Service is top notch, friendly, warm and accomodating whenever we come. The interior is nice with great ambiance and restrooms super clean. Will be back next time in Seattle.
google avatar

Yelp
Matsu is one of the very few decent restaurants in Seattle that can accommodate large parties and does reservations. It has a very similar menu to Momiji and Umi (sister restaurants) with a bigger, more corporate feeling vibe. Service has always been great, and I end up here when I can't get a reservation at the other two on short notice. They also have a large bar area for happy hour, though you can get the happy hour menu at the regular tables as well. It's right by the stadium, so parking can be impossible if there's an event going on.

J S.

Yelp
Excellent atmosphere Even though they feature sushi, they have more than enough else on their menu for non-sushi eaters. Ramen, Soba, and Udon available.
google avatar

Jacques I.

Yelp
Matsu has one of the best happy hours in town, which is no surprise since this is the sister restaurant of Momiji and Umi, both beloved Japanese restaurants in Seattle. But at Matsu, the casual bar with an outdoor patio that's easy for people watching has something going for it here. Located next to Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park, you'll find 12s and M's fans here before or after a game. Get here early on game day as this place gets packed, especially for the happy hour deals, which I highly recommend you check out. The bar is chill, with sports playing on the tube and friendly staff. The happy hour menu features a lot of sushi, hot entrees, appetizers and drinks at a discounted rate. I'd recommend coming with a group and sharing because you'll want to take advantage of the happy hour offerings. Everything I've tried here has been solid, from the seaweed salad, to the fried oysters, sushi sets, etc. They also have a handful of cocktails, some sake options and local taps to wet your whistle. It's a solid happy hour that gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Yelp
While Mariners fans streamed steadily to the baseball field outside, I was inside the sparsely populated dining room filling my belly with the best sushi Seattle offered. Yes, I was aware history was taking place nearby but I was grateful for this rare intimacy and quiet atmosphere for what I imagine is normally a busy restaurant as it was superb. My friend and I went here during the happiest of hours so we were able to order some from the happy hour menu as well from the normal menu. Everything was fabulous. The sushi set was amazing - perfect rice and perfect fish. The agedashi tofu was soft, savory, pillows of delight. The jalapeño yellowtail was also very good tho I was biased and thinking of another restaurant. The geisha roll was stellar - it was this explosion of flavor with a bit of sweet from the mango, a bit of creaminess from the avocado, a bit of savory from the fish and the tobiko, and a whole lot of rolling heat. It didn't hit me hard but it wasn't something I could eat with abandon. The roll demanded to be savored otherwise the heat would build up. I had fabulous cocktails here too. The bartender had a mostly full bar and was able to make a variety of classics as well as specialties like the Atari Sunset. It was grand. Our waitress was wonderful as well. She was thoughtful, passionate, and really ensured we had a good evening. She accommodated us ordering plate by plate as we weren't sure how much we could or would want to eat. She offered suggestions and made wonderful small talk. She was great! This was a wonderful experience.

Yelp
Found this spot via Yelp on our last day in Seattle and would highly recommend their happy hour from 4-5:50pm DAILY and late night in the lounge 9-close. Our bartender was very personable, friendly and even ran out at the end to chase me down because my spacey-self forgot my credit card and he knew I was flying back home after Matsu! All the sushi we had was solid, and a great deal on happy hour. I hate to sound like a brat.. but it's been hard for me to enjoy sushi in the states ever visiting Japan - but this was pretty good! We easily found street parking, and I love the ambiance, vibe and decor of the establishment. I would recommend Matsu based on our experience!

Oh my god I LOVE this place. Came here randomly and it exceeded my expectations. It's so nice on the inside and the rolls taste amazing. Even the classic/simple rolls tasted great. We also ordered drinks as it was happy hour and those tasted great too! I would say this is probably one of my favorite sushi spots in Seattle - just wish the location was different.

Yelp
Woah! Such yummy sushi and really great service. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly, personable, shared some fun stories and gave us some great recommendations. He made great cocktails and mocktails, while also ensuring our food was perfect. You MUST spend the money on the bluefin sampler - it is everything you want sushi to be! I want to go back to Seattle just for this wonderful spot!

Yelp
Servers, bartenders and cooks are all awesome. Received great service with great people and the food was super delicious. I got the Bad Boy Roll. It was flavorful, crispy (because it was fried) and full of quality ingredients. My friend ordered the short ribs and he loved them. Kevin is the man in the bar! Their happy hour is worth taking advantage of if you can!

Yelp
This may just be on our top 3 sushi locales in Seattle!! We stopped by late afternoon on a Saturday for Happy Hour and we're immediately wowed by the beautiful zen entrance and restaurant design, layout and decor; our evening proceeded with amazingly friendly service and accommodations. Dining included a superb and stuffed Seattle roll, hamachi charred collar with spring greens(a definite highlight), perfectly crispy Calamari with mixed greens and a delicious miso dressing(we ordered sweet chili, as proper), and a delicious hazy pale ale from local Maritime Brewing of their excellent local and big market selections.. parking can easily be a challenge, especially during events as the location is right in SoDo next to Lumen Field. All paid park per standard and inner stalls at $9 up to 2 hours and above. For Japanese food lovers, this little gem is definitely on my recommend list!!

Yelp
This spot was a recommendation from a local. We had late night happy hour in the bar. Highly recommend! We had a large group and our server was awesome. Great recommendations and delicious food: Pros: -Great cocktails. I wanted to try them all. Those I did sample were on point. Love me a good craft cocktail -Delicious food. We had rolls, we had nagiri, we had sashimi, we had ramen. It was all amazing -Happy hour prices are good. Couldn't imagine what the bill could have been. But, the happy hour made it totally affordable. Room for improvement: -Nothing to say here that I can recall. Check out the late night happy hour! I'll be back when I'm in Seattle again.

Yelp
We went for happy hours with friends and had a great evening. Happy hour menu is plentiful and can be shared. Drinks were inventive and served quickly. Mainly had small plates and everything as seasoned well and delicious. Side note: The bar did fill up quickly and became quite noisy - hard to hear after a while.

Yelp
This place has been on my list and I finally tried it and I was actually REALLY disappointed. Service was great, no complaints about that but this review is strictly based on the food. Apps - KFC was probably the best out of what we ordered. Nice crispy skin and sauce. Slightly spicy. They gave us wet wipes with it so that was really key because they were really messy to eat. Mushroom gyoza - we didn't expect it to be so soupy. It's listed under the pan fried section so we thought they would be... pan fried :/ It was really heavy on the shiitake and not so much enoki. It was a decent dish, just not what we expected Yellowtail kama - really dry and overcooked :( It wasn't soft or flaky at all. Omakase - we got the $40 which we thought was a good value for 11 pieces. However each fish tasted like it was previously frozen and had that texture like it was previously frozen.. just mushy and not silky :( More than half had a spicy garnish to it. I was looking at previous pictures of the omakase and it looks like our pieces looked extra skinny compared to others I've seen. Also my husband's omakase lacked the black tobiko that I had. Overall we were just reallllllly disappointed with the food. I wanted to like this place based on the other reviews I read. I know this place is probably known for their rolls, but if their actual fish is like this I don't expect their rolls to be better. Sorry :( I am super bummed. A+ for the service though!

Yelp
Avid sushi lover here so I was very excited to try this place out in the city. First off walking into the restaurant you're greeted with what looks like a spa entrance with nice reflecting pond and floor to ceiling hardwood accents. The vibe is very homey yet classy. The service was a little lacking due to there being 2 servers on but the food was top notch. As from the photos we ordered quite a bit and all of it was amazing. Highly recommend the house roll and the salmon trio.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for something to eat for dinner on a Wednesday night and stumbled upon Matsu. Matsu actually changed my friend's outlook on sushi and is now an avid sushi eater. We ordered Chicken Katsu as our appetizer, Shrimp Tempura for our side entree, and Chicken Yakisoba for our main entree. The chicken katsu wasnt crispy but the chicken was tender. Chicken Yakisoba was a bit too greasy on the vegetables. The sauce used kinda reminded me of sweet n sour chicken mixed in with a bit of orange. Shrimp Tempura sushi rolls were tiny. Even the shrimp tails were tiny. They gave us edamame as a side snack before our food arrived. Overall, I would like to come here again to try more. Parking wasnt too bad on a weekday as there is street parking available. You can also park in a parking garage across the street. Only problem is they close at 7 pm and it is hard to get into the garage unless you have an apartment garage key.
