"This family-friendly daytime restaurant gets busy on weekends with folk looking for heaping portions and reasonably priced bento specials. Think of Matsui like a Japanese diner, with bustling service and a huge menu that offers almost everything in the Japanese food canon." - Matthew Kang

Had the manager special and it was delicious. The tempura was airy and crispy, not dense. Udon broth was not sweet and pleasing, al dente udon. The sushi was good. The salad was excellent. Good value and healthy meal. I'll definitely come back. Food came quick and service was fast.

Google
Small, cozy, aesthetic interior. Food was OK: nabeyaki udon good, zaru soba tough and just not refreshing, side of fried mushrooms was good, softshell crab flavor was questionable (maybe not fresh) & salad good, takoyaki was ooewy-gooey yummy but only one person liked it, okonomiyake was basically a pancake, not at all the noodle version--would not order again. Service good. The most popular is $17.75 manager's special, seemed 80-90% of patrons ordered it. Great combo.

Google
Stopped by for lunch on a weekday and had a good experience. For the price, the portions are generous and satisfying. Service was fast and the staff were friendly throughout. I ordered the beef combination plate and enjoyed it. The flavors were solid and what I was hoping for. It’s a good spot to grab a quick sit-down lunch with a coworker.

Google
Delicious food, good service! Came for lunch , waited about 15 minutes for seating and food came out so quick. The lunch special is perfect if you want a little bit of everything: nigiri, unagi handroll, tempura, and choice of hot or cold udon/soba. The combination sets are filling (with choice of noodles or rice dishes).

Google
I got the beef bowl and the meat was very flavorful almost close to the sweetness of teriyaki but not as strong.

Been coming here for years. The service is great. The food's great. Prices are great. This is my happy place. You can't go wrong with the manager special or the matsui bowl. If you are confused on what to get on the menu for your first time. You will get full. I've come back for birthday dinners and family lunches and dinners. Always been a hit with everyone I bring by here. The tempura is top-notch tasty. And has never let me down. If you go weekdays upon open. You'll hit the senior crew piling into the tables. So it's a very chill and relaxed environment. Evenings are a totally mixed crowd from college students to families. Good vibes. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🍜

Google
Their lunch special and dinner specials are pretty good! The price is very reasonable. I went on the weekend, they only have dinner special all weekend! It’s $16.95 for sushi + tempura + udon + salad. I think it’s worth it! Their portions are also pretty good. They serve barley tea instead of water so it’s different. The space is small and it does get busy during lunch hour. They did add an outdoor seating so that’s nice since it’s still during pandemic. They do not ask for your vaccine card, but the staffs do wear their masks.

Google
Good food that is delicious. The lunch special is a great price and includes udon, tempura and sushi. They serve hojicha (cold barley tea) which was refreshing especially on the hot day that I went. Definitely will be going back.

Yelp
Matsui is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in the area! I recently went back and was so happy with everything I got. There is a good amount of tables inside and it was pretty crowded for a Friday night! Luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. We got the agedashi tofu, takoyaki, manager's special, and cold soba. Everything was super yummy! The manager's special is a great deal since you get a choice of noodle, tempura, nigiri sushi, and salad. Definitely recommend Matsui!

Yelp
Matsui has become one of go-to Japanese restaurants now because not only is the food delicious, it is reasonably priced and the portion size is enough to make me full. There is a reason why this was the only place with a wait in the plaza. My party came on a Sunday right around when they opened which was 11:30am and it was already at full capacity, so we had to wait about 45min before going in. Service was good, the food came quickly too and we were given iced barley tea which I really liked. My party ordered the Manager's Special and Katsu don combination as the main dishes with takoyaki and kimpira (burdock root or what I know it as gobo) as the appetizers. I got the Manager's Special which came with udon or soba (I got the udon), shrimp and vegetable tempura, 6 pc sushi combination, and salad. All that food for $17.75 was very worth, it's a good deal. The udon was hot and good, soup was flavorful but not salty while the udon had a good chew but not too chewy. For the tempura, I wasn't expecting to be a whole assortment of tempura considering the price. It included shrimp, pumpkin, eggplant, green bean, and carrot tempura! The sushi was also good and fresh, my favorite was the salmon one. The takoyaki was standard, good but nothing special. As someone who loves gobo, I'm glad this place makes it, the kimpira had a good spice to it. Overall, I definitely would recommend coming here and I will be coming back soon if I am ever in the Torrance area! I would probably come a bit earlier before the opening time though. I do want to try the hand roll combination next time too.

Yelp
I love Matsui. Been going here for years. Their lunch combo is the best. I usually order my lunch togo here and staffs are always friendly especially the manager. He is the best! He really cares for his customers because I usually ask for sriracha sauce when i dine in and he remembers that and asks me if i want him to pack me some sriracha even in my togo orders. Its these little things that makes customer return again and again.

Christine D.

Yelp
Matsui is one of our favorite repeat spots in the Torrance area. The food is simple and delicious. The udon combo with katsu don is the default when we're not sure what to order. It's a lot of food and usually lasts for two meals. The black cod is a sleeper meal that we discovered towards the back of the menu if you're opting for healthier fare. We usually do takeout orders to enjoy at home but on the occasional dine in, the staff is friendly and courteous. The space is a relatively small but clean area. Highly recommended to try out at least once!

Yelp
9.0/10 Everyone knows that Torrance has the best Japanese food. Now dare I say Matsui has the best ten don and udon in SoCal? I got: Complimentary Iced Tea (Not sure what kind) | M-7 Tendon Combination Special with Hot Tanuki Udon (天丼セットと饂飩) $15.25. This is an absolute favorite now. A lot of udon-eating done over the years but none that tasted like this one, at least not outside of Japan. It blew my mind. The udon noodles had a tender yet chewy texture with a slight springiness when bitten into. The broth was rich, flavorful and savory. And yes, even better than Marugame Udon. The tanuki udon here is better than almost all the places I've had in the States including Marugame Monzo, Meiji Seimen and Shin-Sen-Gumi. Although, that's not to say that Marugame Monzo and Shin-Sen-Gumi aren't good. The tempura was light and crispy with the shrimp being tender and the vegetables slightly crisp. The rice was moist and fluffy with a perfect amount of sauce drizzled on top. The Tendon really reminded me of the one I got at Kaneko Hannosuke (金子半之助) in Odaiba, Tokyo, Japan (お台場, 東京, 日本), so good. I have yet to try the Hannosuke in Mar Vista, Los Angeles (LA). This one was better than the one I had at Meiji Seimen. It's quite hard to find tendon at Japanese restaurants in the states. Everything was so comforting and I'm so glad I got this combination. All the flavors worked so well together. This is a lot of food for me, I wasn't able to finish either, ate half of each and took the rest home for later, still tasted good, however, I'd recommend either separating the udon noodles from the broth or eating it as soon as possible for the freshest taste. You can air fry the tempura. I wasn't able to find anything on their website regarding them using eco-packaging or their sustainability efforts, bummer. They're located in a shopping plaza with plenty of free parking in their lot. The inside is casual with cute wooden pillars for decor. There's plenty of indoor seating. Service is very friendly and efficient. I came on a Tuesday as a walk-in around 7:15 PM and there was no wait. I was seated almost immediately, ordered and my food came shortly after. The price is on point here! The quality is very good and for the price, the quantity is a lot! You know you are getting good value when you come here, but not just value, quality and quantity too. It checks all the boxes.

Yelp
My family and I came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon and we were definitely satisfied. I got the Hand Roll combination, which comes with somen noodles or udon, and 3 hand rolls. I got the hot udon. The noodles were soft and perfectly chewy. The broth was served hot and it was flavorful! For hand rolls, the options are: California, eel or spicy tuna. I got 2 spicy tuna and 1 eel. The portion was very generous! We also shared a tempura appetizer, which comes with 2 shrimp, and various veggies such as string beans, carrot, Japanese pumpkin, shiitake mushrooms, eggplant, and potato. Our server was so nice and gave us each individual tempura sauces, plus ten-don sauce. Service was amazing. Our drinks were always filled and our server was very attentive.

Gayle W.

Yelp
We were greeted with the usual "Irasshaimase (welcome)" as we entered. I ordered the Ten Don combo which includes, a bowl of Udon noodles and shrimp and vegetable tempura on top of rice on the side. They put a yummy teriyaki sauce on top of the rice bowl. I was very happy with the meal. The service was decent as they came to check to see how we were doing every so often; would definitely go back again. If you like "all shrimp tempura and vegetables,' they have a special called, "Go Go Matsui Bowl" Try the place, if you like tempura!

Derek T.

Yelp
Torrance and Gardena will never have a shortage of yummy Japanese food, so you should just go ahead and add Matsui to the list. It's got good quality lunch deals that won't break the bank. So what exactly is the lunch deal/combination? Well, udon or soba and tempura is the name of the game here. Any combination of that and you are smooth sailing. Or if you want sashimi and sushi that's perfectly acceptable too. Whatever you decide on, you're getting a solid meal that'll fill you up without going too crazy on prices. That's all there is to it. Yummy food, good prices, great time.

Lauren T.

Yelp
I love Matsui! My family has been coming here for years. I always order the same thing-- the handroll combination. You get three handrolls: spicy tuna, California, & eel. I always sub out the California for an extra spicy tuna. The quality of the fish is so fresh! Their udon is also solid, and Matsui is the only place that I'll order it. I love that they give iced tea instead of water! I think that's it's a barley tea, but I'm not too sure. Their service is also great & they're constantly checking on tables. I'm normally not a fan of tempura, but Matsui does it right. The batter isn't too heavy, and it isn't oily. My favorite is the kabocha & green beans.

Jo C.

Yelp
If I can give it 6 stars I would! I'd say this is one of the "best" value for ten don/tempura bowl restaurants I've tried in LA in terms of their generous portions, deliciousness and price. I actually like this better than Carlo's tempura and it is slightly cheaper too. I love it so much I come here everytime I'm in town. There is much food in the lunch combo. The tempura is absolute delicious, not greasy yet light and flaky/crispy, done just right! The combo is well balanced using fresh ingredients. Each table are was served with barley tea. The service was great and food came fairly quickly like 15 mins despite the busy lunch time.

Tyler K.

Yelp
Get the tendon combo (great tempura, great value). Service was nice. Ambiance was there.

Diane H.

Yelp
I'm glad we returned to Matsui. The food was great. We had their special lunch and it was delicious. We plan to come back. Service was excellent.

Calvin L.

Yelp
Wow there have been so many great Japanese spots we've stumbled upon since moving to Gardena. I can't believe we've sat on this spot for 3 years...what a mistake. First of all the price point for everything is relatively cheap compared to other Japanese spots in the area. All of this was only $60 after tip! Big portions. The takoyaki was just ok for me. Soft, no crunch and on the smaller side. Fried chicken was good. Loved the bite-sized karaage. Seasoned well. The curry udon was a winner for me. I'm a sucker for this dish and Matsui nailed it. Loved the consistency of the broth. It was definitely thicker and much richer compared to other spots. The udon was the star for both dishes with such a perfectly done texture. The dinner deal is a steal for the variety of dishes you get. Everything was cooked well with a solid mix of quality sushi. Will definitely be back soon!

Kimberly H.

Yelp
Delicious and affordable Japanese food! A bit of a late review but we came for dinner around 6:30PM and were seated right away. We ordered the Una Don Combination Special and the Manager Special (at the time) which came with salad, tempura, udon, and 6pcs of sushi. The food came out quickly, was tasty, and plenty of food. It felt like comfort food! We'll definitely be back!

Jolie F.

Yelp
This restaurant has been in existence for awhile! And it made through Covid: bonus! The restaurant is located in a complex near the hybrid hotel(a Japanese hotel) in Torrance. Also, the restaurant has its own parking lot which does get busy! We visited at 4pm on a Sunday. At this date and time the restaurant was pretty empty. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit! This restaurant does get busy, it has a sign in sheet at the door. The restaurant is tiny! Very good service had at the restaurant today! We decided to get the manager special which is under 18 dollars. The meal comes with about 6 pieces of sushi, nice green salad, tempura and udon or soba noodle soup. Good value! The sushi was ok but the udon noodles, tempura and salad was good! I normally just come for udon! As for the washroom; after washing my hands I was so gross out by the odor outside the washrooms, I couldn't go again! The odor needs to be addressed: it's very offensive. Skip the bathrooms and bring hand sanitizer! The restaurant could also use some sprucing up: new chairs and paint! In summary: good value!

Yelp
Located in a plaza with lots of other Asian food restaurants, this place is pretty well hidden. Came in on a Saturday and it was packed ! It's a pretty small restaurant so you may need to wait if you go doing peak hours, but we didn't have to wait too long. Lots of regulars, you can tell by how fast they order. Service can get slow because of how busy they get, but besides that they are very efficient. They have amazing specials and the food is very affordable. Got the warm udon and it was delicious. Noodles were great and the broth was perfect. Takoyaki had the perfect ratio of dough and octopus. Miso soup had lots of seaweed which was super nice. The onigiri was a little bit of a letdown as it doesn't have filling, and I found the seasoning too salty so I couldn't finish them. Overall great experience, will be back !

Yelp
Matsui is a local joint in Torrance, one of many Japanese restaurants in the area. It focuses on comfort/fast food, similar to ones you can get in Japan when looking for a quick bite. Prices were very affordable, with combos ranging from $15-$20 but you will definitely feel stuffed after your meal. Service was quick, as I received my food about 5-10 minutes after ordering. We ordered the following items: Manager's Special: included shrimp and veggie tempura, which was fried perfectly. It was lightly battered, giving a nice crunch with each bite. The hot udon was also served in a light, clear broth to balance the fried food. The quality of the 7 pc nigiri sushi was average, what I would have expected considering the price. For $17.95, I'd say this was a pretty good deal. Tonkatsu curry rice: pork was over fried and thinly sliced, making it dry and chewy. Curry flavor was very good though. The biggest concern about Matsui was their restroom. It smelled awful, like a sewage leak. So bad that I had to hold my breath and use the bathroom as quickly as possible. Overall, if you're looking for an affordable, quick bite and craving Japanese food, Matsui is the place to be. However, be sure you go somewhere else to use the restroom. Otherwise, you've been warned.

Garrett F.

Yelp
My friends recommended Matsui so I definitely had to visit. This place is seriously a hidden gem. In terms of price to quality ratio, it's easily a 5 out of 5. I ordered the special (under $20), which came with tempura, nigiri, soba, and salad. The food was really good!! I'm actually getting hungry as I type this. I came during lunch and staff was friendly and the service was pretty quick. I was in and out in under an 1 hour. Overall: I'm definitely coming back! Also, I'll be recommending this restaurant to all my friends and family. ごちそうさまでした!

Matthew H.

Yelp
This has become one of my favorite restaurants. We ordered the Manager's special which included: Hot or Cold Soba OR Hot Udon Assorted Tempura Assorted Nigiri Salad The soba was so delicious and refreshing. The sauce was the perfect mix of savory and refreshing. The udon was also very homely and delicious. The tempura was the star of the show because it was not too greasy but had the amazing crunch and flakeyness. The nigiri was also amazing. I am so glad that it was a variety of nigiri because I was able to try so many different types of fish. The price was around $17/18 which I think was well worth given the portion size and variety. The wait can get a little long but the service is good. The wait for the food can take a little bit of time as everything is made when you order. Definitely give it a try!

Emma C.

Yelp
We went on a Sunday evening and got seated right away. The service was nice and very quick. I ended up getting the Ten Don Combination which came with a Tempura Rice bowl and the Udon bowl. It is a huge serving and you definitely get what you paid for. The udon broth is super simple and the noodles have a nice chew to them. The tempura was a little oilier than I'm used to but still really good. Overall this was a very simple but delicious meal!

Jamie B.

Yelp
Exceptional udon and the lunch special is a nice mix of food. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable with fast and courteous service. Unfortunately the restroom smelled like vomit and ruined the experience. It was the kind of smell that sticks with you. It was rough.

Truman W.

Yelp
2 stars for oyakodon (chicken egg rice). Not good at all, no flavor, wrong texture. My friend's $17 lunch special combo was much better. Do not get oyakodon here.

Chanson H.

Yelp
Unfortunately need to significantly lower my rating. I still enjoy the food but the bathroom sewage smell has become intolerable. Search these reviews for the word bathroom and you'll see that people have complained about the bathroom smell for at least 8 years. I think the problem has gotten a lot worse. I walked in yesterday and the whole place smelled like sewage. I couldn't bear it and had to leave. The restaurant was essentially empty at 7:00 on a Saturday while the rest of the plaza was bustling. Please get a plumber to change the p-trap or something so I can continue coming back.

Brenda L.

Yelp
The good: I like how everyone is served hot rice tea here without an extra charge. It was a warm welcome from the windy weather outside. The space felt very authentically Japanese and had a small but cute interior. I tried the ten don combo with udon. I preferred my husband's hot soba noodles in his combo special. It was tender and easy to eat. I liked all of the variations they had on combos. The tempura was nicely and lightly fried. The food came out in a timely manner. They had interesting high chairs I've never seen at other restaurants before. The service was prompt. The bad: My dish came with a random plate with three half green beans that were a little less cooked than I preferred. My daughter liked them but I thought it was a bit random. The tempura was slightly saltier than the average tempura. There's no outdoor dining option. The interesting: This restaurant is located in a plaza full of other Japanese cuisines. There were lots of baseball souvenirs around as decor.

Mia S.

Yelp
10/10! Wow, I'm so happy I found this place - the prices are right and the food was delicious! We ordered the Manager's Special, okonomiyaki ($7.50!), and Chirashi rice. It was a LOT of food. On the manager's special, I really liked the sushi (good variety and was cut well) and thought the tempura was super crispy. The okonomiyaki was tasty too, and I loved how it came cut in little slices - perfect for sharing! The flavoring here was standard and the sauces/pickled ginger provided a great crunch and contrast to the soft, warm okonomiyaki (egg/veggie fried pancake). I really liked the Chirashi rice - it was sushi rice topped with ginger, mushrooms, cucumber, egg and roe. It was such a simple dish but complimented the okonomiyaki perfectly. This dish was done extremely well - so comforting and delicious. The service was wonderful, we had the kindest servers and our food came out quickly. It's a small place, but definitely gets pretty packed! Check it out if you're in the area!

Kathryn M.

Yelp
Our party of five got seated immediately on a Friday night! The manager's special was a bargain and delicious! The tempura was delicate, crispy, and delicious! I enjoyed the mugichi, as well.

Lydia C.

Yelp
Matsui has good Japanese food, but the variety that they offer especially given the price point makes this place definitely worth going to. So, if you're in the area, pop by and try one of their combination deals. At peak hours, there's a little wait, but the line moves fast and service is friendly. The shop itself is on the smaller side and has a clean and welcoming atmosphere. I really like the lunch special, which comes with salad, tempura, nigiri, and your choice of noodle (soba or udon and you can get hot or cold for each). There are a couple of cut corners: the shrimp is butterflied to make it seem bigger and the quality of the fish for the nigiri is could be better. However, the quality is still good enough to be satisfying. Plus, the portion size is incredibly generous and the price below $20 making the lunch special quite the steal.

Grant S.

Yelp
I've go to Matsui every so often since it's a really affordable option in a pinch. There's never a wait here which hasn't changed throughout the years. There's a wide menu that has udon, soba, and dons. The best things to get in my opinion are their combination specials, they're decently filling. This time I had the Ten Toji combination with hot soba. The soba has a very generous portion with a lot of noodles. The tempura in the don was really soggy though, it was missing the crunch that I'd expect from shrimp tempura. It still tasted ok though. Overall Matsui is a decent option, the best thing is how affordable it is on top of the wide menu. The menu isn't the most exciting considering there's some other amazing options in this plaza, especially when it comes to Japanese food.

Seong L.

Yelp
It may look like a Japanese restaurant with all the ornaments and signs but this is a mexican restaurant. When I walked in, I was a greeted by a hispanic guy who didn't speak much of English with homemade tattoo on his hand. We ordered some udon and a few dishes and it was the worst I've ever had. Udon was so flooded with bland broth I could barely see the noodle on the bottom. Other dishes were so bad as well. I saw the chef in the kitchen and he was a hispanic as well. I don't know who owns this place but I don't think they're going to last much longer.

Shaun S.

Yelp
Simple Japanese food. Feels like the menu is something my mom would/could make at home. It was our first time trying Herr and I'll definitely be back! The service was nice and friendly and the food came out pretty quick for a Friday Night. The prices were Excellent too!

Donald T.

Yelp
Among all the great Japanese food in Torrance, Matsui is my favorite for tempura and udon. The udon noodles have the perfect texture, and the broth is delicious. The prices are very reasonable for such excellent quality. I haven't found any place better. I always go for the kitsune udon and the gogo matsui bowl--and yes, I can eat it all myself.

Kasey N.

Yelp
The soba was good and this place is very clean. Food came out quickly and the menu had a lot of great options.

Beverly R.

Yelp
I love the interior! Small place. Reasonable prices. I ordered the ten don combination with the hot soba. The soba is really good. Comes with a side of tempura crunchies. The tempura itself was ok not fried really crispy and since they add their own sauce, there's no dipping sauce. The combo came with green beans, 3 to be exact. Lol

Eunice C.

Yelp
Tasty clay pot of nabeyaki udon. Steaming hot, it came with lots of veggies and chicken meat in the pot and 2 shrimp tempura. It was delicious!

Lawrence H.

Yelp
Got the Manager Special. Great price and great good. Went on a Friday at 5:30 pm and plenty of tables were available. By 6:30 pm, they were close to full house. Service was friendly.

Honest O.

Yelp
Their Nabeyaki Udon is the best. I find that its better than, just about any other top dollar Japanese Restaurant. They do not put Mochi and that's regrettable. However, I can no longer eat mochi, so no biggie. There are pieces of chicken, veges, shitake shrooms and udon. Comes with their 2 piece Tempura shrimp and veges. I must compliment them on their light tempura batter which is far superior and flakier than 'Tendon Tempura Carlos Jr.' or 'Azumas' Japanese restaurant. To me, Matsui is like a Japan train station fast food eatery. I wish Matsui had better grade sashimi and sushi's. (Just not up to par) But, like I said, its like fast food Sushi Boy type of sushi, not bad. But, don't worry, its not old, I just think they use albacore instead of maguro. Their Ten Zaru Soba combos and specials are a good deal but, the cold soba could use quality improvement. Its just okay. All in all, they have pretty good deals for a Japanese eatery. I go there for a quick bite. The staff is super nice and accommodating and the eatery is very clean so thats always a plus! Try it, its worth it.

Han L.

Yelp
Great place for hot and cold noodles at a Great price. Staff is attentive and efficient. It can get busy so come early.

Karena K.

Yelp
I recommend eating here if you want to try a little bit of everything. Perfect for someone like me who likes a variety of flavors! There are many combination sets, so you are bound to find something that will satisfy your cravings. The food tastes delicious. They should hire more servers. There were only two when I went during a weekend dinner time, so it was busy. The wait goes by fast, though. This restaurant is in the same plaza as Daiso, so you could walk around there to kill time. Plenty of parking available.

Siwon C.

Yelp
I loved this place. Reasonable price good quality of daily special. But I was so disappointed recently The sushi was so dry and so cold. Even tempura size were smaller than few months ago.

Rachel M.

Yelp
5 stars for Food 5 stars for service A bit crowded at lunchtime, but the wait was short. Everything in the Lunch Special was so delicious. Tempura - was perfectly crisp and delicious. I liked the combination of tempura items: shrimp, onion, sweet potato and 2 other veggies. Somen or Udon - it was a hot day so the somen was perfect and tasty Salad - the salad had a delicious creamy dressing Can't wait to go back

Clare M.

Yelp
Matsui is a wonderful Japanese restaurant located in Torrance. It has a well priced menu, but what we always get is the "Manager's Special" for dinner which is shown in the photo below. It includes sashimi, salad, tempura and udon or soba for $17! It is a great deal and always yummy. Their tempura is awesome, light and crunchy. The soba noodles are less heavy than udon and very tasty! The sashimi is a nice variety. Their have a paper sign in sheet so write your name down, and check out the nearby Daiso if there's a wait. And their "water" is a caffeine free iced tea called mugicha made from barley that's really great too. Definitely check it out!

Megan K.

Yelp
Japanese owned and operated. Go early, because it gets packed. We got there 3 minutes after opening on a Saturday and there were already 13 other people seated. Great authentic Japanese food.

Stacy S.

Yelp
We've come here numerous times with my parents. They have a diverse Japanese menu, but most importantly they have lunch and dinner specials that are out of this world! This particular location is in a large shopping plaza off of Western Ave. & Carson St. in Torrance, with plenty of parking available in the shared lot. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Whenever I come here, I always get their lunch or dinner special because it's just too good to pass up! The lunch special consists of Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura Combo, Salad, Sushi Combo and Udon or Soba for just $13.45. For the amount and quality of food that you get, this is a steal! They also offer that same special for dinner at a slightly higher price of just $16.95. I've also had their Nabeyaki Udon, which comes in a huge bowl with 2 shrimp tempura on the side, and I always add one mochi. This is one of the best Nabeyaki Udon's in the South Bay! Service is efficient and friendly. It's always crowded so it's best to arrive when they first open. All of their food is super fresh and flavorful. Don't sleep on this!

Yelp
The manager's special for lunch on the weekend was a delicious and great value for the price! $17.75 came with a choice of udon (hot/cold) or soba (hot/cold), nigiri 6pc, and tempura too. It's my preferred way to eat with a little dabble in everything. Hard to beat that with inflation and pretty good soba noodles with the right level of firmness. Just like legendary Yankees slugger Hideki Matsui, this was a hit!

Yelp
The food is always good here. The service is spotty meaning that sometimes the food comes right away and sometimes you wait and wonder if they ever got your order. Would I go again? Yes because of the food.

Yelp
Came here for the tempura and it did not disappoint! For $14 the Tempura Lunch Set is definitely a steal, came with 7 perfectly cooked juicy pieces of shrimp tempura, a few vegetable tempura pieces on top of a bowl of perfectly cooked fluffy japanese rice and miso soup. We also tried the the katsudon which was just as good. Everything on the menu looks well-priced and we will definitely be back to try their other items next time. Parking is abundant as it is in a huge strip mall with other restaurants beside it make sure to watch out for the Matsui sign. Service was friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Got take out. Food was made quickly. 1. Nabeyaki udon: had soup and noodles separated so that the noodles don't become soggy. Didn't like the broth and udon was soft and not chewy q texture. 2. Tempura: tempura was soggy but crisped up in oven. Tempura batter was a bit too salty and dipping sauce was not sweet enough 3. Spider roll: a bit dry. Other places usually has sauce on top. Maybe it wasn't included. Not sure if I'd try this place again. I think I was here in the past and didn't like the food that time either.
