On the Grid : Matsuri

"Before a night out in Federal Hill, treat yourself to some of Baltimore's best sushi and Japanese cuisine. Conveniently located only a few doors down from some of the liveliest bars in Baltimore, Matsuri is a great place to start your night. Not into the party scene? Grab a seat at the bar for lunch, and chat with the sushi chefs as they artfully prepare one of their signature rolls." - Planit

Was finding my way to a different place but ended up here and I don’t regret it. We loved our sushis, liked the sweetness in my veggie sushi. I liked the vibe of this place It was small cozy n aesthetic. Would visit again👍

I had the spicy California Roll, perfectly spicy. The chicken fried rice my lady had was delicious. Loved the family atmosphere.

This was our first time back since they did some renovations. We sat at the bar and ordered some sushi, udon and ramen soups. It all tasted pretty good and we especially enjoyed the Salmon skin roll.

We went last night visiting from New Orleans. The owner was so sweet and really took pride in the sushi! The sushi was definitely some of the best we’ve ever tried and the lychee saketini was sooo good! The whole experience made my trip to Baltimore so much better! The restaurant is very small but we didn’t have to wait long. 10/10 RECCOMEND!! <3

Matsuri is such a gem to have nearby. I've been a bunch of times but keep forgetting to review because I always leave in a daze before drifting home to pat my stomach for the rest of the night, lol. This is the only sushi place in Bmore I've been that does justice to ama ebi. The fried shrimp head takes me straight to heaven. 👼🪽♥️ The sushi rolls are also so pristine in terms of structure + flavour. ✨ You'd be hard pressed to find a sloppy roll. The rice also has lovely chew + seasoning. I could eat all of Matsuri's sushi rolls without any soy or wasabi and be perfectly happy - they're that good. 🤤 The tempura has amazing texture, but definitely needs the sauce to add flavour. The shrimp is better than the vegetable tempura, for my personal taste. The eel over rice is also so indulgent in texture and flavour. If you are with someone who doesn't like raw fish, this is a great choice for them. I don't think Matsuri is the spot to get random freebie slices like Kiku on Light Street, but I don't think you'll care since the quality is so top notch. 👌💯 This restaurant is on my frequent flyer list, especially if we are dining out with family. ✈️

Great atmosphere in the heart Fed Hill. The sushi was amazing. Started off with a house salad and the ginger dressing was great touch. The sushi tasted fresh and delicious. The salmon melted in my mouth. Highly recommend.

When we first visited this place nearly two years ago we thought it would be our go to. The decor is evocative of authentic Japanese vibes. The cooks are nice and always busy. There was a friendly young woman a few times during dine in, but the past few times we picked up orders to go there was another young woman who seemed diligent but just visibly in a bot so good mood. So the food! First impressions: authentic and fresh. However, gradually we started noticing that not everything is okay here. Not sure what is going on, financial troubles? But the place is unattractive and depressing. Instead of getting creative and rethinking their approach they are cutting corners and offering lower quality food. The happy hour was a complete disaster. I know some places serve smaller portions at discount happy hour prices but here we were served old stock refried crunchy rolls. Yuk. Somehow we were too shocked and embarrassed for them to complain. The tuna looks a little too bright and after watching videos on how fish un the US is sold “refreshed” with added color and scent, it’s scared me. Seeing how they cut corners on serving old rolls I just don’t trust the rest of the ingredients. It feels like a family place. I know the economy sucks and it’s the small businesses that suffer. And do I wish them well but I also want quality food when I eat out.

Google
Food always tastes fresh. The atmosphere is comfortable and the variety of options is awesome. They have something for everyone here. I’m a big fan of the flaming dragon roll on the sushi side and the Oyoko Don on the kitchen side. There is a reason this place has been open so long with others that come and go. The staff is also the nicest you could ask for and care about you having a good experience. It’s my favorite restaurant in Baltimore

Yelp
The best Japanese restaurant we've found in Baltimore. Specialty rolls were well prepared and fresh. The staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Matsuri is my favorite homey neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Our typical order consists of their miso soup and edamame, and I love trying their different Special Rolls. The service is excellent and staff is so friendly!

Yelp
The best sushi in Federal Hill. My go to is the spicy yellowtail, spicy salmon, or spicy california roll. Staff is so friendly and I am so happy to have them reopened!

Yelp
What a cute little Japanese restaurant, definitely gives out a little authentic vibe even though it isn't run by Japanese. Sushi, sashimi, tako salad were very fresh Teriyaki and curry dishes also pretty tasty! Uni + quail egg was my favorite. Sake price was a bit pricy but they do have sake cocktails selections. Service was attentive. Street parkings filled up fast. The nearest garage parking is the West st garage.

Yelp
Still a great lunch spot. I believe the lunch specials have changed, but I still love everything about this place. GLOWS: - the sushi is fresh and delicious- even the most basic rolls can hit the spot. - The seafood fried rice!!! Get it on lunch special if you can. -The fried cheesecake is still a hit. -The service is very friendly and efficient. -The ambience is older, but it gives of the vibe of a small Japanese food shop. GROWS: -Outdoor seating for more than 2 ppl would be nice, but inside is just as good.

Yelp
I've been here twice: one time for dinner and another time for lunch. If you want cheap and reasonably priced sushi, this is the place to go. If you're looking for quality sushi, then this isn't the place for you. Today I got the lunch roll special (3 rolls for about $16) and although the price was great for the amount of sushi, the quality was mediocre at best. There also isn't much space inside for customers so it felt cramped. Our waiter today was quick with taking our orders but he talked way too fast even after clarification. Sorry but I won't be back.

Yelp
I really like corner restaurants for some reason and Matsuri definitely is a cute place with a great location. I thought the wait staff were really nice and the menu was extensive without being overwhelming. I thought the sushi was just ok though, not bad in any way but nothing special either. I would come back to matsuri if I was in the area and craving sushi, but I don't think I would seek it out.

Yelp
I pre ordered online and then went in to pick up. There was an issue with what I ordered not being available and I guess they couldn't reach me on the phone so basically I had to wait in the restaurant for them to prepare my order. I didn't really mind, they were really nice and apologetic for the delay, and it didn't take long. This place is great for something easy to pickup if you live nearby. The sashimi and rolls I ordered were tasty and the prices are reasonable!

Yelp
SO delicious! This is a must go if you're in Federal Hill, even if you aren't in Federal Hill. We stopped in this past Friday night after a jazz concert. The area itself was filled to the brim with college aged young folk waiting to get into the club and dance. The moment you step in it's quiet and serene. They're not allowing sit down service just yet so you can either order ahead and order once there. They do have a bench for folks to sit on and wait but since it's a smaller space I recommend waiting outside if it's a nice day. We ordered a collection of items. The grilled sushi combo, the bento box and the eel and chicken don buri. It took about 15-20 minutes for all the food to get prepared. They packaged everything up nicely and offered additional utensils if we needed. Once home, we dug in! I've never had sushi rolled outside of tempura that is cooked but the grilled roll combo was really good. Lots of unique flavor with the grilled fish but nothing was overwhelmed by one flavor or another. The don buri was delicious. Both if ours came with onion and egg and seaweed in top. The eel had more of a sweet brown sauce to go with it but both tasted fantastic. The bento box was eaten within a matter of minutes it was so good. Th standard ginger was a nice cleanser between these three dishes as well. Next time I'm in Baltimore Federal Hill I'll definitely return for more sushi and sashimi and whatever else they recommend.

Yelp
The bento box was worth the price and was definitely quite filling. The service was really nice and understanding and they brought the food out to us when it was ready to go! I definitely wished I ordered more variety in the bento box. Parking in federal hill is quite terrible in the evening so we spent just as much time waiting for food as we did parking.

Yelp
Matsuri Japanese Restaurant is a must-visit for delicious food and a great vibe. The Matsuri Special Roll is a standout--so flavorful! The staff are friendly and welcoming, making it a top spot for a tasty meal. Can't wait to go back for more! Thanks, Matsuri, for the awesome dining experience!

Yelp
We made reservations for 8 of us on a Fri night, and were seated in the upstairs section around a big round table with a lazy susan. We asked about omakase, but the waitress said they didn't have that. So instead we ordered a bunch of rolls to share, plus sake and beer. The wait staff was excellent. All the rolls showed up on a big boat, in addition to a plate. All the food was fresh and tasted great. I would come back no problem.

Yelp
-food Love all the nigiri! I like how they seasoning the rice and I think the fish on top is really fresh. I also order one udon, I was craving for udon and it's soooo good to have udon during winter, warmed me up. The tempera in the soup is amazing! Also like the mushroom in the soup. Loved it! Also really like the presentation of the food! Definitely gonna come back again! -service Very nice and friendly services! -inside Not super big, only has 3 tables. I love the interior! It's really cozy and authentic Japan styled decoration. Give me a really good vibe and I really enjoyed eating here! -parking I went on a Tuesday afternoon so it's not super hard to find a place to park. But this area is busy during weekend and parking is not gonna be easy

Yelp
Overall an OK experience. If you're in the area, too hungry to wait, and looking for decent sushi, you'll find it here. Other than that, I wouldn't go back. The rolls are pretty small for how much it is. The staff are very nice and welcoming though, which bumps up my rating a bit. Mermaid roll $15.95 Matsuri eel roll $10.50 Salmon toro sushi/pc $3.95 Hamachi toro sushi/pc $3.95 Crispy spicy tuna roll $8.95 Takoyaki $8.95

Yelp
Overall the food and service was good but not great. There was much more rice than I'm accustomed to from other places and that minimized the meat included especially in the special roll. The soup was also half the size I'm used to from other places. On the app there is not a Shrimp Tempura roll available so I had to order the special roll which wasn't part of the lunch special. I also wish there was pork gyoza and not just vegetable available. Again, overall good but not great.

Yelp
FYI rolls didn't taste as good as my photo may look. Given my last sushi meal was in NYC, it really isn't far to compare Japanese food in Baltimore to NYC and LA standards butt......ya this place I guess could be satisfying if you are stuck in Baltimore and have an intense craving for sushi?? Just beware , it was super strange that the sashimi was warm ?? Both the rice and the fish was warm which is kinda weird. I get sugarfish has their rice warm, but here the fish was warm too?? The mushroom roll was a mistake on our end. We did not intend to order that but must have mistakenly ticked it. Please don't get a mushroom roll. The other rolls weren't great but edible. Again, kinda the standard was that of getting sushi from Whole Foods or Safeway or something. Edible but not amazing. Might just be a touch critic. Also everyone kept saying how affordable this place was but we got 4 rolls and a couple pieces of sashimi and it came out to $120. In NYC we went to a Michelin rated sushi place + sake and that came out to be $170 soooo unclear how this place in Baltimore costs almost the same.

Yelp
Great sushi! Usually order take out, but decided to sit down for the holiday. The owner was very friendly. I asked him about a photo hanging in the restaurant, and it turned into a great conversation about his trip to Alaska! Will be back.

Yelp
This restaurant/location is closed down. I tried to go today 07/02/23, and the place was boarded up. The police stood in the front of the entrance/door. Just a heads up if anyone is trying to go here. I'm not sure what happened.

Yelp
Matsuri is, by far, the best place for sushi in Baltimore. RA sushi is a joke in comparison. Kona Grill is only good for happy hour. Matsuri is good ALL the time. The portion sizes are generous. The sashimi portions on my delivery order were the most generous I've ever experienced. And the chef's selections in the Sushi and Sashimi combo were on point.
google avatar

Yelp
My boyfriend and I order from Matsuri on the regular and everything we've had here is delicious! The rolls are great and I highly recommend the Kitty roll and the spicy scallop roll. The sashimi is fresh and the selection always varied and delicious. Their yaki udon is flavorful and filling! We have also had a couple of the appetizers including the fried calamari and wasabi dumplings. The wasabi dumplings were great but maybe not the best value (though I still order them anyway)

Yelp
I am definitely coming back here. I don't get what the hype is with Shoyou Sushi when you have Matsuri. Matsuri has a nice extensive menu and it made it difficult for me to choose. I like that there were a lot of raw options because that is what sushi is, not baked. To start off, I had the takoyaki, which was okay to me because the size of the octopus was really tiny and there was a lot of flour. Followed by that, I had a miso soup, which came with my Sashimi Yukozuna and I would say this is one of the best miso soups I've had from any restaurant. It was VERY hot and there was just so much miso flavor. The consistency was "thicker" than the other miso soups I've had over the years. As for the Sashimi, ughhhh, it was sooooo delicious and I appreciated that it came with a bowl of rice. The fish was so fresh and the slices were not thin. I would definitely have this dish again. I also appreciate that their soy sauces are low sodium, and that they even have the option for gluten free soy sauce. I like that they provide a hot wet towelette to wipe your hands before you eat! In terms of service, it was okay, nothing too extravagant. The next time I come, I will definitely opt-in for a few rolls. Oh and also, their Lychee Saketini was to die for. Something to keep in mind for those you want a little buzz.

Yelp
I ordered the sushi burrito for takeout and the vein was still in the shrimp. That isn't edible. Pretty repulsive, the cooks should be ashamed.

Yelp
One of the freshest seafood/sushi ive ever ate in Baltimore and i ate it the next day!!! Ordered take out and was too lazy to eat it at the time but all my friends loved it! Woke up the next morning and had a bite of each thing i order and it was still worth every penny. The escolar was especially good. Fatty, firm, taste was the best I've had so far! Ate it the next day!!! Only could imagine how fresh it was once it came in, but i can only go off what my friends have told me, unfortunately...Highly recommend. When i am back in Baltimore i will 100% go dine in personally. Was amazing!

Yelp
Came here for the first time for lunch on Friday for restaurant week! The restaurant appears to be Cantonese-owned. Very friendly staff. Interior is cute and has about 5 four-seater tables, so I'd recommend making a reservation on OpenTable at popular times just to be safe. For the better sushi, if you're choosing between Brothers Sushi and Matsuri (they are 300 ft from each other), pick Matsuri. Both have Happy Hour sushi roll prices; I think Brothers is cheaper, but their rolls are definitely not as good as Matsuri's. I had the crispy spicy tuna roll, Ocean Breeze roll, and Volcano roll. I was satisfied and enjoyed their sushi, but honestly none blew me away. I thought the crispy outer coating on the rice in the crispy spicy tuna roll was unique. The Ocean Breeze roll had abundant mango sauce that tasted a bit like a mango smoothie if that's your thing. Volcano roll was baked and creamy, which I enjoyed. The amount of rice was too much. Good green tea mochi ice cream. Standard miso soup at nice temp. All in all, decent sushi for the city. $15 restaurant week was a deal considering the original prices (which are high in my opinion). I probably wouldn't come back because of the higher sushi prices, which may be standard for Baltimore City. I'd say it's worth the drive nearby to Ellicott City, Elkridge, or Catonsville for better priced and better quality sushi.

Yelp
We came here during winter restaurant week. We came on a Monday night around 7:30 and there were a lot of empty table even though the restaurant is pretty small. Dinner menu of restaurant week is 3 courses for $30 (no drink included) We order Octopus ball and fried oysters for our first course. They are both pretty amazing, and you can tell it is freshly made. I just wish there is more octopus in the octopus ball and there is more pork flakes on top. The friend oyster is very unique here but it isnt that filling, all hallow since the oysters inside are small. but the sauce is super good and goes really well with the oyster, T dont know what it is tho. Blossom roll: uh ... where are all the raw fishes. it was covered with super thin fish on top and i could barely taste them. There is a little salmon inside. I wish the fish portion would be more prominent. Volcano roll: there are salmon and tuna inside but unfortunately, they are cooked fished. They are pretty spicy and high temperature. I dont know if i like it. I rather have raw tuna and salmon on like volcano roll like how other restaurants carries. Lobster roll (add $3) : I tasted the lobster from the roll, very filling but i wish it is more chewy on the lobster and you could obviously tell the lobster isn't that fresh. However, the sauce that it goes with is very good. If the fried part of the lobster is a little more crunchy, I would prefer that. Dessert with Tempura cheesecake: Uh, i do not prefer the idea of fried cheese cake, it came out pretty hot and oily. the cheese inside is all clumpy and not smooth taste as you would normally eat the cheesecake with. Sauce is berry and mango, they are very sweet and i don't think it goes well with delicate cheese cake. Spicy tuna roll: Probably the tastiest roll for the meal. It is very well season and you could tell it is tuna on the dish even it is very simple, not overwhelming Overall, the deal with restaurant week is nice, and good presentation, but i wish the portion of raw fishes could be bigger on their sushi

Yelp
My favorite place to eat i eat here every week. I get the same thing. wish they still had Happy hour gets expensive. They should also give more food for what they charge. My bill is always 60 dollars for 2 rolls with 5 pieces each & a chicken teriyaki Not much food but definitely good. My family and friends always come here. we use to eat in now only togo or uber eats. best sushi spot. just a bit on the expensive side specially for a fake crab meat in a roll. All the money you pay you should get real crab meat and more food. Sad they took away happy hour now i can't come here as much.

Yelp
Dined here as a group of 6. The service was pleasant and the restaurant was very accommodating to a large group. The food was phenomenal and therefore worthy of a 5 star review. My husband and I cant stop raving about how great the sushi was! Everyone in the group chose a roll or two and we shared them all. We ordered the Matsuri Eel Roll, Hurricane Roll, Mermaid Roll, Incredible Hulk Roll, Geisha Roll, Kitty Roll, Salmon Crabcake Roll, and the Dragon Roll. The presentation was fantastic, and the quality was excellent. Everything was very fresh and the entire group was impressed. The group also shared bottles of the pear and plum sake. The plum sake was very sweet - too sweet for some of the group. The majority preferred the pear. Can't wait to experience Matsuri again.

Yelp
TL;DR the specials rolls seem to be pretty good but the roll combos leave a lot to be desired. Not sure if we'll go back. My girlfriend and I have been looking for a new sushi restaurant now that she lives in Baltimore, and it seemed like Matsuri was the place to go. We decided to use Uber Eats to order the Tempura Roll Combo, Spicy Roll Combo, and Ocean Breeze Roll. The portions were generous but this is the first time we have ever gotten sushi and couldn't finish it because of the taste. Something about the roll combos was just... off. I don't know if it was the white fish or something else, but each of the roll combos had a roll inside that was just plain bad. The Ocean Breeze roll was great, so if we come back, we'll maybe try a few of the different special rolls. Please give more options for the combos so that people can choose their own three rolls like every other sushi place!

Yelp
I'm just finally writing a review for Matsuri after being a customer for several years now - 5 stars! Love the food here, always fresh. The customer service in the restaurant is great - the kind that makes you want to give a large tip in the end. Our waiter definitely deserved it! It is located just beside the Cross Street Market in Federal Hill, so if you're in the area craving for Japanese food, try to check out this place. We recently had lunch here and my husband had the BEST spicy tuna roll! The shrimp and veg tempura are always crispy and tasty. Miso soup always on point. Our favorite rolls: california and arizona are fresh and must-try. Save some space for desserts, because the green tea mochis are amazing! We almost got another order!! We left happy - it was a great lunch!

D S.

Yelp
Please don't tip on your credit cards because the restaurant will take all the tips and not give to the employees I have worked for there but no more

Yelp
Ordered off Yelp and got delivery Being on a strange diet (Low FODMAP) it's hard to find places to eat when you just can't cook another meal. Sushi has been my go to. Delivered on time and easy to order. I loved the Boston Roll. The sauce was so yummy! I liked that you could choose what type of fish to use. Will definitely be ordering again :)

Cole S.

Yelp
Amazing food, family atmosphere, everyone is super welcoming and the space is very clean and well kept. You can tell the owner takes pride in an amazing customer experience and is always super helpful. Highly recommend this place, especially the flaming dragon roll.

Yelp
The best way to describe Matsuri is well-rounded. Like that kid you grow up with that's good at everything. We ordered carry out, I ordered an eel avocado roll and a rainbow roll as I do at every sushi restaurant. They both were delicious and filled evenly, although I was expecting the rainbow roll to be a bit bigger as a specialty roll. My boyfriend ordered the udon chicken soup. It came in different containers to build your own, and the soup was still hot by the time we got home. When we poured out the soup container, it filled up an enormous bowl that we have at home. You can't beat the amount of food and the flavor at the price. They also have many other types of dishes and I have been here multiple times, they seem to be good at everything.

Yelp
This is my favorite sushi place in Federal Hill! They just redid he downstairs to accommodate for more space and they have a really spacious upstairs dining area, very casual. Service is usually very fast here but take out is my #1 option! We always get the Federal Hill Rocky Roll and usually the Hurricane roll which are both amazing. Go-tos are also the Orioles Roll and the Mermaid Roll. They usually have some specials and we went the other day and got free Edemame definitely recommend his place for a sushi night!

Yelp
Always fresh always tasty. Been going here for years and the service is always quick and great. Their Happy hour is great. Cheap prices for food and drinks and its good! Their shrimp tempura is always nice and warm and crunchy! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! :) Its a small space but its cozy and I have never had to wait long.

Yelp
If you're in fed hill this is the place to get sushi. It's small and not much frills but the food is delicious and always fresh. My fave things to get are the gyoza, ginger salad, volcano roll and the ocean breeze roll but honestly everything is good here. I really haven't had something that I didn't like. Pro tip: They do a happy hour from 5-7pm Mon-Fri for dine in only but the prices are so worth it and have a lot of your favorite rolls for discounted prices. It's usually my fave time to go. They also have discounted prices on wine and beer.

Yelp
I was quite impressed with the quality and the flavors of the food here. It truly caught me by surprise....mainly because I haven't really had good Japanese food on the East coast outside of NYC. I enjoyed that they have the bento boxes, something common in Japanese restaurants, especially the ones in America. A bento box offers you a variety of menu items on one plate, or in this case, a box with divided compartments. The one I chose was the shrimp tempura and spicy tuna roll, both really delicious! You get a few choices and some items have an additional cost. It also comes with salad, miso soup, pickled vegetables, and your choice of shumai or gyoza. I went with the vegetable gyoza (dumpling) deep fried. Well the gyoza isn't really authentic, tastes just like the ones you buy from a frozen bag. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was delicious, crispy, chewy on the inside, and hot. The dipping sauce was good, but I do wish I got some grated radish (daikon) with it. The sushi was really good too! I grade a sushi on the rice and how well it's cooked....this rice was just right, not over or under-done. The spicy tuna itself was pretty tasty, not too spicy as well. Service was great! Quick! And the price was decent. Would definitely come back here again to try other things on the menu.

Yelp
This place is my go to for the area! Wherever I go, I always try to find a sushi spot with quality sushi and affordable prices (you don't always have to pay crazy high prices for good fish!) and this is the place that holds the top spot in Fed for me! The quality of the fish is always great, the portions are generous, and you can't beat the prices for this area! Can't say enough great things about this place, if it's available, definitely give the Uni a try!!
google avatar

Carmie G.

Yelp
Just moved to the area from SoCal and I tried several sushi spots. This one is my favorite. For starters, they actually make sushi rice properly. The fish quality is a hit or miss depending on the day (like the other sushi spots I noticed in the area), but they at least prepare/package very well and don't make it taste like it's convenience store sushi like other places I ordered from. I order from here maybe once or twice every two weeks.
google avatar

Mary Z.

Yelp
This place was all right. We waited probably an hour and a half by the time we sat down and got our food. Everyone around us was getting their food before us and we got there before them so that was a very cool. First thing I noticed was that the price was fairly overpriced for a normal rolls. I also got the Uni with a quail egg and assortment of nigiri. Pretty expensive overall however I saw that the happy hour prices are fairly reasonable. I will return back and try out the happy hour specials and probably try the volcano roll. I probably wouldn't come back for dinner unfortunately. Will continue the search for a good sushi in Baltimore.

Yelp
The food is good here, but the service was terrible when we came today. The restaurant thought it would be a good idea to send a trainee to take on a family of 8. Which would have been fine if the trainee was doing things right, but he ended up ruining our dinner. First off he did not bother to write down any of our orders and ended up getting things wrong or not putting things in. My boyfriend's mother did not get her unagi don, our sashimi came out as nigiri, our handrolls came out as regular rolls and it took forever to get our drinks and food. If he would have just wrote our order down he would not have forgotten what to put in!! Ruined our night because he thought he could do it... Oh on another note we got to keep the regular rolls for free and after talking to the main server he gave us 10% off our meal, but that was AFTER I complained about how we got charged for items we weren't supposed to and how terrible the service was. The main server already knew the service we were getting was terrible but he did not do anything for us until I complained. He said that we at least got the handrolls for free (except the fact he charged us for one of them) and they wouldn't of been free if the trainee took the right order in the first place! We didn't come here to get free rolls, we wanted what we ordered. Not what we didn't order... Sucks that we had such a bad experience here. Next time you guys get a young waiter, make sure he writes down your order or else your meal will be not what you expected! It really bothers me when servers don't write down your order and end up messing it up. It's not that hard to get a pen and paper.

Yelp
i grew up in the area and i've been coming here ever since i was little and it has stayed true and absolutely delicious. i truly have so much love for this place. my go-to is the seafood yaki soba and the fried gyoza, it never disappoints and i have yet to find another Japanese place in bmore that does it better! the staff is always so friendly and attentive. this place is seriously underrated, considering all the saddening changes in the neighborhood i'm so incredibly happy that this place is still around. please give it a try and support good local businesses. you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
The restaurant served us plastic wrapped lobster rolls. We went there for restaurant week and ordered the lobster roll and we kept noticing non-chewable pieces inside the roll. We thought it was the shell at first, but after taking it home, we realized that the "shell" was actually a plastic wrap around the lobster meat and subsequently deep fried in tempura batter. This is a huge health risk and we were lucky to not have ingested the plastics. This is very unacceptable!!

Yelp
The sushi is really good and fresh! But also it is expensive ... I think I may come to the restaurant next year after the pandemic to give it a try.

Yelp
Ambience: small with a large sushi counter, just the way i like it. :) Menu: typical japanese apps, cooked food, and sushi. *Must haves: they have a happy hour 5-7 most weekdays that's off the hizzle! Ranging from $2 fatty tuna sashimi to $3 Gyoza to $5 specialty rolls! Love it! Service: proper, helpful, patient. My go-to sushi in locust point/fed hill. Will be back frequently and soon!

Yelp
We just moved here and have ordered from Matsuri at least 4 times. Hot food always delivered fast, pretty good prices and always the correct delicious items. Excited to keep trying new stuff from them! The soup specials are nice too.

Yelp
I was a little underwhelmed by Matsuri. It could be that we came just before closing, but I found it to be just okay. We ordered the chirashi bowl, chicken curry katsu, and a scallop roll that I can't remember the name of. The chirashi bowl was pretty good, although it was smaller than most I've had. They didn't give a ton of fish, but they were also kind of skimpy on the rice. The chicken curry katsu tasted good, but the chicken was falling out of the fried skin, and some of it looked like they had removed the chicken from the fried part. Were they not even trying? Again, maybe because it was just before closing...... The scallop roll was admittedly very good, and quite possibly the only reason I'm leaving it at 3 stars. Maybe I'll be back. Maybe not. But, I'd definitely head to one of the many other sushi places before coming here again.

Yelp
One of the best sushi places in Baltimore--especially if you like chirashi bowls and sashimi. I've been to a lot of really expensive, high-end sushi places, and while this isn't near the best sushi I've had, it's one of the best places I've found in the Baltimore area. We started off with the tuna salmon nori salad, a Valentine's day special. It was really good! The cuts of salmon and tuna were really nice and they were laid nicely on top of a bed of 5 different kinds of seaweed. For the mains, we ordered a chirashi bowl, the hurricane roll, and the spicy scallop roll to share. I'm more of a traditional chirashi-bowl-kind-of-girl, while my boyfriend is into fancy, creative rolls, so this struck a happy medium. The chirashi bowl was great. All the cuts of fish that went into were nice and thick. The hurricane roll was REALLY GOOD (Lobster salad, avocado, topped with super white tuna, salmon, spicy mayo and crunchies). Definitely recommend. All the flavors blended so well. The spicy scallop roll was also really good. Sometimes places will mix the scallops in with copious amounts of spicy mayo sauce because the quality of scallops are low and they try and hide the flavor, but that was definitely not the case here. The scallops were really fresh and the roll had just the right amount of spicy mayo sauce. Great place to come to satisfy that sushi craving!

Yelp
Yesterday I went here sometime in the afternoon. Surprisingly it wasn't too crouded, probably because we were there early. Right about the time we were finished, a group of seven was getting a table. This place is small but it would be big enough for one or two groups about that size, just get there early lol. The place is easy to spot from the outside, right on the corner of the two streets. Of course, if you ever been to charles st it is kinda hard to find parking. When we sat the waiter gave us small hot hand towel; just that made me want to give this place a five. Haha... im an easy grader. However, the food was also very good. The other reviews seem to do it justice. I loved the pork katsu curry...omg ty yelp this is why I love you. And the Ika Yaki... I wasn't sure what to expect; it didn't look completely like the picture because it was more thinly sliced, but still liked it. :) I got so much food that day. The main dishes are actually kinda big, so I took a box for home. If you like sushi then try it, but I loved the other main dishes as well. They also continuously checked on us if we were doing fine/needed anything. (This is why I love going to resturants early when it isn't crowded. They give you more attention and dont rush you.) Also, I believe they speak Chinese as well as English... xD Anyway, this place is really nice. It so close to insomnia cookies also... so if you go here late and wanna get dessert... insomnia cookies is a small walk away. :)
