"There are countless Italian restaurants around the world with photos of Frank Sinatra and the rest of the rat pack adorning their walls. They do this to add a bit of atmosphere and authenticity to their establishment. Although you’ll find several such photos adorning the Old Hollywood walls of Matteo’s, the difference here is that this restaurant is one of the very few still in business today that Frank Sinatra and the rest of the Rat Pack called home. Originally opened in 1963 by Sinatra’s childhood friend from Hoboken, Matty Jordan, Sinatra made it an instant hotspot, regularly dining there on Sunday nights. Hollywood A-listers and US Presidents have been dining here ever since, and although Matty died back in 1999, Matteo’s continues to offer delicious, authentic Italian food in a classic, elegant setting that still exudes the unmistakable spirit of Old Hollywood royalty." - Clever Creative

I did the murder mystery dinner here with a group of friends and it was so much fun! The acting was pretty good, the good was good, and the setting was pretty nice. For spending 4 hours there, the time flew by! The mingling and cocktail hour was very useful for getting to know the others in the crowd. It was awesome how they engaged with the patrons in their act!

Iconic Italian restaurant. Great food and service. A place where people actually dress up for dinner. Loved that gentlemen wore suit jackets and women dresses accordingly. Loved my Elderberry Greyhound. A place were you can have a conversation and not yell over the music. Excellent!!!

I actually came here for a murder mystery dinner. It was a great time. I had the Atlantic salmon which was really good. My girlfriend had the chicken parmigiana which was also tasty. And had some drinks at the bar. I liked this place for their food and ambience. Try it.

Omg happy hour until 930 pm with excellent food choices. We had the meatballs, calamari and olives off the happy hour menu and they were delicious. I'm looking forward to returning to enjoy a meal.

Talk about hidden treasure. Matteos is a perfect throw back joint with authentically prepared Italian dishes and friendly service. You can tell the staff are glad to be a part of this establishment. Come for the generous happy hour and stay for a great meal.

If you want to return to the days of the quiet elegance of the 1960s through the 1980s, treat yourself to a meal at Matteo's. Roomy leather booths, decor that takes you back in time, personalized service and a delicious menu that your taste buds will thank you for. Veal, pasta, seafood, lambchops with beautifully arranged side dishes. There is a small bar or enjoy drinks at your table. The host will make you comfortable and you will relax and enjoy the ambience as you view old pictures of Sinatra and Martin on the walls. Valet parking is available as well as some street parking. A great place to celebrate any spe ial occasion.

Yelp
After being a west Los Angeles restaurant afficionado for may years, I finally felt it was time to check out Matteo's. All I can say is that it exceeded all of my expectations. The service was top notch and the food all around was delicious. What impressed me additionally is that the waiter would listen to our requests and suggest thoughtful alternatives which he thought we would enjoy more. And he was correct. If you are in the mood for an upscale, sophistacated dining experience and want to take a step back into LA history, this would be the place.

Yelp
Old school Italian restaurant...maybe just me but I felt a little like I was in a scene in the Godfather. So hubs and I made the mistake of coming one night too early for a birthday celebration, but no matter. They had happy hour. Pretty decent. Good straight up bar (no fluffy umbrella drinks)...hubs really liked the Moscow Mule. All real ingredients not mixers. Baked clams were good as were the meatballs. The SECOND night, we came back for the murder mystery. I haven't been to many, but this one was fun. I think because we had a large group. The food (selected beforehand) was good and large portions. The waiters were pretty stoic which added to the murder mystery atmosphere (did my waiter do it?!). And we won! I correctly determined "whodunnit" so made it even a better evening. Valet parking in back.

Yelp
From MAINE to LOS ANGELES it's my favorite place for fine dining . My first experience at Matteo's I was visiting from Maine & mentioned to the maître d' I wanted to come back for my birthday in March. I didn't make it on my birthday , yet when I returned in April The maître d' said we missed you on your birthday March 4 th right. Their service is as good as their food , the best LA has to offer .

Yelp
Matteo's like the now shuttered Dominick's was one of the many hang outs by the infamous Rat Pack headed by Frank Sinatra et al. It's a "classy joint" as might be described by old Blue Eyes himself. There is a lot of Hollyw(ood history here, & the various framed photos attest to that fact. The interior reminds me a bit of the old Windsor now called the Prince in the Wilshire Center area. It's plush in an old school mid 20th century way w/ horse shoe shaped burgundy red shaded well upholstered leather booths, simple, elegant wall scones & overhead lamps, mirrored walls, and carpeting that absorbs much of the ambient sounds to create an intimate, well bred environment where conversations seem hushed & private. In other words, it is a very civilized space compared to the undignified cacophony in such places as Bestia, Animal, Bottega Louis, etc. Matteo's still retains a bit of Hollywood hype by having a façade of polished black marble w/ white veining w/ gold plated lettering proudly proclaiming: EST 1963 which is an eon considering half of all new restaurants go under in less than 2 years. Congratulations for such outstanding longevity. Claudio, originally from the island of Sardegna, is the manager at this venerable establishment. He is the go-to man when it comes to suggestions of what may be new in "la cucina" for new menu special items that hew closer to regional or more updated version of Italian cuisine. Also he has a broad knowledge of Italian wines so that it would be wise to confer w/ him on what wine pairings are amenable to the various ordered dishes. Also it's fun listening to stories about his Italy especially if you have travelled to Italia and can relate. Claudio, for me, is the central figure that makes coming to Matteo such a treat. Looking at the menu, it clearly preserves the original menu from the 1960's, but Claudio not wanting to rock the boat is slowly introducing a bit of the Nuova Cucina Italiana & more regionally "authentic" dishes. Of course, I will assume the original menu will not be expunged in fear of alienating all the old timers who are still the mainstay customers. 1) Complementary flat bread cracker slathered w/ a tomato, cream sauce infused w/ what may be Grana Padana cheese that adds a fermented, dairy Umami. 2) Complementary bread looks like focaccia w/ tasty, buttery, garlicky, cheesy, herb encrusted flavours. 3) Calamari Fritti: good crispy, meaty version that includes the rings of the body & some tentacles. Good tomatoey Salsa Marinara dip. 4) Veal Tonnato: Thick slices of roasted veal coated w/ a chaud-froid like sauce made of tuna & mayonnaise dressed w/ sharp, bitter, vinegary Capers. It's an old time dish from Piedmonte. 5) Insalata Trevisana is very summery w/ radicchio, Belgian endive, green herbal pea tendril, tomato, mint, chevre cheese in an orange vinegrette. 1-5a) Prosecco Bortolotti DOCG was a bubbly, refreshingly acidic, mildly sweet, citrusy wine. 6) Seppiolini alla Veneto: steamed baby squid & peas in a garlicky, olive oil slicked red tomato "diavolo" sauce that had a slow chile pepper burn. 6a) Vermentino from Sardegna was served ice cold to give it a refreshing dry, crisp, hard edge. Tasting of Owari Satsuma tangerine, also sour-bitter grapefruit zest, musky, chalky minerality w/ acidity that tingled the tongue. Genius choice by Claudio. 7) Costata di Vitello alle Erbe: 16oz veal ribeye chop w/ a nice meaty chaw in a demi-glace like red wine enriched sauce w/ slices of smooth, pleasantly rubbery Porcini mushrooms that added a foresty earthiness. Baby carrots & haricots verts. 8) Qualie: totally deboned quail stuffed w/ herbed veal sausage in a deep meaty brown sauce espagnol w/ a touch of red wine. Creamy light golden polenta. 7-8a) Nebbiolo/Barolo from Piedmonte: deep, rich black fruit, slightly jammy, nice mellow acid, subtle oak 9) Tiramisu: Perfect, classic w/ soft whipped ricotta cheese, bit of crème Chantilly, lady finger pastry, bit of espresso, powdered bitter chocolate. 10) Terrina di Cioccolate: very rich thick mousse of dark chocolate infused w/ orange flavoured Grand Marnier. This combination reminded me of the dark chocolate ice cream w/ orange zest by Bertillon on Île Saint Louis in Paris. 9-10a) Espresso Doppio: Bitter yet smooth coffee paired well w/ dessert. Old School Italian American w/ specials from Italy of today, Matteo's is a great place to dine w/ lots of Hollywood history where dining is a pleasure. 4+ Yelp stars.

Yelp
We went to Matteo's who hosted the Murder Mystery, what I think is a touring event held at different venues. The venue is nice, held upstairs in a quaint small room. They have a nice outdoor deck area. The food was good, and I'm guessing the Murder Mystery was held at Matteo's where the food was also prepared, so is representative of the food quality and quantity (maybe not pricing, since The Murder Mystery Dinner was $75 per person that included the approx. 3 hr entertaining live theater dinner show that was interactive). I had the Salmon here and it was good, on average it's * * * = "A-Okay" by Yelp standards, nothing spectacular nor offensive, just good solid reliable food. It could be that since the group attending was around 40 in total, the kitchen had to churn out a lot of meals at once, so the meal at this event might not truly represent Matteo's at their best, but it most certainly wasn't bad or feeling like at their worst either. I'd consider coming back to Matteo's for a regular dinner. Parking... they do offer valet parking and there are street parking options 'tho be wary of the limitations in the residential areas or suffer the wrath of coming back to a ticket or worst yet, if your car gets towed away due to any neglect for reading the signs.

Yelp
Matteo's is the definition of an exciting evening! My brother's company hosted their holiday party here and I was pleased to come as his guest. We reserved the second level of the restaurant. There was an open bar where the bartender was not being skimpy with the alcohol at all.. talk about hard drinks LOL. Our night consisted of a murder mystery and a 3 course meal: Caesar salad, salmon, and raspberry sorbet ice cream. Caesar: Kind of bland and very light dressing Salmon: Rich and melts in your mouth. Comes with delicious grilled veggies. Sorbet: YUMMY!!! The murder mystery is indescribable. Everyone needs to attend one at one point in time. It was very fun because we all knew each other and I believe the restaurant asked for background knowledge on the company and individuals and the our host did so well connecting everyone in the story and making us laugh all night.

Yelp
For me everything about Matteo's is five star The food is outstanding (veal chop) Old-school ambience and decor Waiter and barman were all stars We will be coming here very often Love it

Yelp
i've ordered Uber eats two times with a main dish and a side salad and both times they did not give the salad. I called the restaurant and the person who answered the phone fight with me telling me that I was crazy and that I did not order the salad it is called chop chop. Based on this I would never go to his place again! I spent $32 for two little pieces of chicken and half of my dinner not there.

Yelp
This is a real treat of classic old school Italian. This was highly recommended and lived up to every bit of it on food & service. We had fried stuffed squash blossoms, which I had never heard of, and they were outstanding. I branched out and had one of their fish specials recommended by our server and it was spot-on fantastic. Another dinner went with the Osso Buco Milanese and said it was the best he's had, and he's had it several times in New York. BIG fan!

Yelp
"Matteo", the Italian form of the Hebrew name "Matthew", translates "gift of God". Matteo's, has been Angelenos' gift for over forty years. Even though the bar and dining room have been modestly, elegantly renovated you can still get a sense of the restaurant's vibrant history, what it was like to rub elbows with Hollywood royalty, the likes of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack*. Gracious, welcoming from the valet, to the hostess to our server to support staff. Whether you select traditional Italian menu offerings or a dinner special you won't be disappointed. Libations available from an extensive wine list (by the glass or bottle) or the full bar. Even choose black or white linen napkins depending on attire, which is generally casual but next time I'm dressing up. An addictive amuse bouche of paper thin/frico-like flatbread spread with a puree of eggplant/goat cheese, basil chiffonade/tomato garnish arrived first followed by equally addictive cheesy herb bread, olive oil/balsamic meant definitely no room for dessert, confirmed the evening's special, Lake Superior White Fish, perfectly prepared, perfectly portioned was the right choice. My first visit and a first in many years for my Italiano hubby was definitely reprise worthy. In fact, he deemed it the best of the Italian restos we've tried this year. Valet park for $6 (not including gratuity) instead of competing for a meter on Westwood Boulevard will allow you to relax, thoroughly enjoy the dine you're about to experience. * http://matteosla.com/matteos/

Yelp
BE WARNED. The murder mystery show doesn't even deserve one star. For an $80 experience I expected an entertaining interactive show. Instead we sat around for 2 hours with absolutely nothing happening and no food besides a terrible salad. I expect they were going to cram the rest of the show into the last 50 minutes? The parts of the show we did experience were comically bad. Clues that made no sense. A rambling detective and bad actors that did nothing to enhance the experience. Our show was interrupted by an incredibly rowdy party of guests that the bartenders continued to serve the largest shots I've ever seen. On empty stomachs the party got even more rowdy and then got into a very dangerous fight in the middle of the room. Girls were being thrown into walls. The cops had to be called. When the fight was going on all staff completely disappeared. They did nothing to stop it or protect the other guests. I blame the restaurant for not handling this better. They should have been removed from the show at the very beginning and not fed more alcohol. The show was ruined from the very beginning bc of this. These were people we were supposed to be mingling with to solve the murder? This is also not including two guests that the bartenders spilled a tray of drinks on. And the waiter that spilled the butter from my salmon all over my dress. Needless to say it was an absolute horrendous night. Do not waste your money on the murder mystery show. It's not worth the outrageous price and the mediocre food plus drinks you have to pay for on top of the base price.

Yelp
First of all, I would like to say this place came highly recommended. I took my partner to a Murder Mystery dinner which has won awards over the years and was featured in several magazines. If I could give a 0 star for the night I would. First, the food. People are paying $70-100 each for a evening and you served cut rotten lettuce on a plate as a salad, the only gluten free option being mushy pasta with vegetables- why no grilled meat and veg options? Not refilling water glasses at the tables and refusing to swap a meal for a sick pregnant guest (the lady at my table). Next, you lost control of your guests. Not only did you allow a large group who were clearly high and intoxicated into the venue but you then lost control of them and the evening. Finally, the same group started a violent altercation, driving us to leave a little more than halfway through supper. I will not be recommending this experience to my friends and will warn them away at any opportunity. A pity too, I adore dinner theatre.

Yelp
This review is for Keith & Margo's Murder Mystery dinner at Matteo's! We were celebrating a birthday dinner with 7 people, and Matteo's/Keith & Margo's staff produced such a fun evening for us. PARKING I believe there's valet, but we all managed to find street parking with ease. LOCATION The murder mystery dinner is located in the second floor of Matteo's in a medium sized private banquet room. They set up a separate bar for the murder mystery guests, and there was a beautiful outdoor patio we could mingle with other guests before the dinner. It was nice to have restrooms also available on the second floor. FOOD Matteo's gives the ability to order the meal beforehand when you buy the tickets, so our entire party ordered either the chicken parmesan or the salmon. Before the event begins, they have a bar available, as well as a basket of parmesan crisps. I may or may not have eaten too many of the crisps, but it was worth it! The meal consisted of a tasty caesar salad, good main course, and sorbet or tiramisu desert. My biggest tip would be to not come to the murder mystery dinner starving. We did not know that the courses would be served between the long (but fun!) acts. We probably did not get served the main course until about 9:00 p.m.? However, since I loaded up on the parmesan crisps, I made it through to the main course without feeling hangry. SERVICE Service was top notch overall, and the murder mystery staff was very entertaining. We called Matteo's earlier to discuss the birthday, and Matteo's was very accommodating with even allowing us to bring balloons for the birthday girl. I highly recommend trying this event out and trying to solve the murder mystery! TIP: If you are celebrating a special occasion like a birthday, I highly recommend you contact Keith & Margo's at info@murdermystery.com.

Yelp
This is a review for the murder mystery dinner upstairs. My company took us out for a holiday party. There were about 80 of us. To say it bluntly. They were understaffed, under prepared and completely overwhelmed. The show its self was fantastic, but food was underwhelming. The first course was a Cesar Salad. Mine consisted of about 8 pieces of lettuce, 3 croutons and kraft Parmesan Cheese. My main course was supposed to be Filet, but it was the thinnest filet I've ever seen. And was about as tough as a round cut. Not only did our company have the ability to preorder, and give the restaurant a heads up to prepare for our large party, they still ran out of main dishes for some people in my company. Now on to dessert. We had the choice of sorbet or tiramisu. I chose the sorbet, but came to find out they halted desert service half way through. Overall, I would have given this restaurant 0 stars, but I can't. Dinner fail

Damion C.

Yelp
From out of town, our business partners took us here for a dinner with a party of 8. This place is an old school Italian restaurant. Oozes coolness with the stories of who used to frequent the place. First off the service was amazing. Very attentive, always there when you needed them. The food was good not great.

Yelp
Are You Kidding Me Matteo's ??It's an embarrassment to still have the same name as what it was in the 90's and Turn of the Century The Staff looks like I stopped into a nice restaurant in Lone Pine or Bishop on my way to Mammoth DO NOT GO THERE ON NEW YEAR'S EVE 2021 What a Disappointment and( they weren't that busy last night) to not have their Signature Item Veal Parmigiana on their "Set Menu"Matteo's might not be around in a few years or sooner

Carolina Z.

Yelp
Matteo's is a really old school Westwood staple. It's got a romantic vibe to it, great for a date night or even just a cocktail at the bar. Charming décor and big roomy booths. Our service was excellent, food delicious and piping hot, great selection on the wine and cocktail menu, although they were out of the St. Germaine cocktail I was craving... next time I guess. For our mains we tried the seafood pasta frutti di mare, I tried with white sauce and his with red. We absolutely love that they give you an options. In my humble opinion, the red sauce overpowers the seafood. So I love a white wine butter sauce. I did ask for a wedge of lemon and it was delicious! Overall, I would say Matteo's is a 5 star restaurant with great food and ambiance.

John B.

Yelp
Sadly this place has become a Ghost of the past. It is a remnant of a bygone era where the Rat Pack frequented regularly and Matty reigned as the host and owner. Currently the head Chef, the poorly executed food, the wait staff and general manager all need to be replaced. The dining room has beautiful booths and ambience but it becomes a ghost town after 9PM after the over 70 crowd who represents the patrons departs from their early bird dinners. This place has awesome potential for a new owner who could really be a hang out for a younger crowd for a night out.

Tony L.

Yelp
Better check if they're still in business. They weren't open at 6:30pm on Tuesday night

Rosalyn G.

Yelp
Don't forget this classic! The food is superb and it's a. Memorable LA favorite! We went with a group of retired UCLA physicians and they couldn't have been nicer to us! We changed our count more than once, went from the banquet room upstairs to the private dining on the main floor and they accommodated us the whole wsy ! Thank you Matteo's! You are a class above !

Yelp
Rarely do I care for the world of television, but I'll admit I have a few exceptions. Strolling about the neighborhood I spotted Matteo's and immediately looked to my lady and asked "Is this the Matteo's from 'Curb Your Enthusiasm'.....?" After a brief peak inside it was confirmed, I was shocked at my excitement. My lady was sweet enough to realize that with 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' being one of my favorite shows ever I'd love a chance to eat here so she booked a night. This is the restaurant on the show where Larry goes quite often, buys gift certificates for friends, finds his ex-wife sitting at a table in his name, I mean Matteo's has a slew of references on the show. Again, probably one of my favorite shows of all time. We arrived for our amazing evening and it really was my lucky day, we ended up being given the Sinatra booth. "Sinatra booth" as in the table he always sat at, he helped open this place as he and Matteo were pals growing up. Talk about a bonus, I'm rarely this lucky. Ladies and gents, this is my type of Italian joint. A place where you go and can dine for 3 hours. You sip a cocktail or maybe some wine for 30 minutes before you even get a menu. It's a social dining experience, you aren't just there to slam your food and bail. There are well dressed older cats conversing for hours. The plates of food coming out at a slow pace, allowing you to soak it all in while grabbing another glass of whatever suits you, giving you plenty of time to chat about life with your dinner guest for the evening. The servers are courteous and high class. They take care of you with that smooth charm you should have in a house that Sinatra helped build. I had a pasta dish with assorted mushrooms which was stellar. The bread, the oil, the wine, the dessert... Everything was perfecto. I don't think we could have been happier, unless Larry David popped up of course but that's ok. I grew up with Italian family and friends, they would have loved Matteo's too. A classy Italian spot with history from a pair of celebs I actually give a rat's ass about, right in my neck of the woods... Doesn't get much better than that.

Rachel S.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and the owner really loves talking to you about the history of the place! He is so passionate and be warned will talk to you until the place closes if you let him. Apparently Sinatra, Sammy David Jr and other celebrities used to frequent this place. He will talk your ear off though, so be aware. Once he gets started, he won't stop if you let him. Came here with some friends for Dine LA and grabbed a happy hour wine - 5 bucks at the bar while I waited. The bartender gave me this yummy crispy cheese thing which I very much enjoyed. I ordered the chopped salad, the braised short ribs and tira misu for dessert. All very yummy! Would definitely come back.

Travis I.

Yelp
Mmmmm, damn good bread and above-par calamari fritti... I've read many reviews slamming this place for small portion sizes and I can only say my experience was completely the opposite. I scored a side of spaghetti with meat sauce and it was enough for an entire dinner, after an appetizer. Anyhoooo..... AMBIANCE. Old School. Dark (or dimly lit, if you prefer). Leather booths. The setting makes you immediately feel at home; it's very laid back and somehow classy at the same time. SERVICE. Cheeky. Our server had a daring sense of humor that might not go over well with most humorless pencil-necks here in LA, but I thought he was refreshingly honest and witty. My party certainly never felt rushed at any time. At one point, we grew a bit antsy to get the check paid. Otherwise, it was good service. FOOD. Serving size rumors we not proven upon my visit. The calamari fritti was tender, lightly battered (clutch), and included the little legs, which I find is a sign of truly good calamari. My Veal Parmesan was two hand-widths long and wide, and was cooked nicely. Since my veal didn't come with pasta, I also snagged a side of spaghetti with meat sauce. Yes the menu is little pricey for what it is, but I basically enjoyed my meal. PARKING. Eek. I don't know what to say about this one. Street parking is on and off, due to rush hour Westwood Blvd. parking, and side streets are iffy. A sure thing is parking at the Westside Pavillion, but it's a bit of a walk... which I honestly don't mind. Overall, a good option to have in the West LA area. Why go to Hollywood to score that old school Italian feel, when we have a nice little spot right here in West LA? Still, the menu poses a price barrier for the taco cart crowd, which is a shame. But worry not, there are plenty places out there that serve food that is just as good; it just may not be served in the same elegantly welcoming setting.

Josh M.

Yelp
What a fantastic meal and an ideal setting for dinner. This is the fourth time I've been to dinner there and the last few months and it's well worth the drive for me from the San Fernando Valley. I've never had a bad dish. The shrimp and clam dinner is fantastic specifically but the salads in the mushroom soup are equally ideal. fantastic wait staff who are attentive but not pushy and there's no better bartender at the city of Los Angeles than Joe Stellini. Any chance I get I'm happy to go back.

Mahnaz B.

Yelp
My husband and I go to Matteo's regularly and we love the place. Very delicious food and very peaceful environment. Definitely recommend it.

Rob W.

Yelp
Only came to the bar, but hadn't been here since high school and thankfully, it doesn't seem like much as changed. I didn't really eat much, but had the oysters on the bar menu, which I enjoyed, but may not get again. They were coated with I think parmesan and presumably oregano in a sauce and then oven-baked. Enjoyable, especially the topping, but a tad rich, which you'd expect. Staff was super friendly.

Emily C.

Yelp
The service was very poor. The waitress waited 30 minutes to take our food order and we had been seated at the restaurant for an hour when the food arrived. One meal was incorrect and another was forgotten about from our party of 10. The waitress had to be flagged down and there was no apology for the service issues. The environment is well decorated and the food tasted good but it wasn't enough to make up for the extremely poor attention from the wait staff. I will not return.

Clara T.

Yelp
From the first friendly greeting of the maitre d' to the final farewell of the waitstaff, we were made to feel welcome and valued. The bartender filled our orders quickly and happily, even though I was only having sparkling water with a wedge of lime. The others in our group had stronger drink. One asked for an Irish coffee which was delivered quite promptly considering they probably had to make the coffee. And the food - delicious and beautifully presented. I had the fig, beet, walnut, feta salad on a bed of spring greens, followed by eggplant parmigiana (a vegetarian dish), It was excellent! I brought half of it home and enjoyed it the next day. For dessert I had the timamusu. It was light and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness - a delicious and a fitting ending to a wonderful meal. Matteo's is definitely a five star experience.

Miriam A.

Yelp
NEVER AGAIN!!!! The service was slow took 20 minutes to a server greet the table and too expensive. When we complained to the manager his answer was "what do you want me to do!!?" Also a fight broke in the middle of our dinner. Guest were too intoxicated and acted so inappropriate. For the price I will to Spaggo and save the headache

Claudia W.

Yelp
Great place, great food, great service... to a certain point... BUT then I wanted to order another 1/2 a portion of cioppino (having head a full portion which was delicious) and I have been told that this would not be possible... Really? That's not customer oriented at all - what's the problem to split a portion- I am not talking about opening a bottle of wine for me with the risk they cannot sell the 2nd half. That experience was lousy and something I wouldn't have expected at a place of this level. Very disappointing.

ordered this on grub hub. what a joke. $64 and this is what they gave us. (not pictured eggplant parm (bland) and garlic bread.)

Yelp
The red booths and dim lighting create a cozy, romantic atmosphere. The man who showed us to our table was very friendly and inviting, giving us a charming history of the place, which used to be a popular hangout of The Rat Pack! The place gets a star for that fact alone. Service was good and I loved that our server had a thick Italian accent, adding to the overall authentic Italian dining experience. The gnocchetti di ricotta e spinaci, noci gorgonzola was my favorite dish of the evening and definitely worth a trip back in the near future. Spinach and ricotta gnocchi, a touch of garlic, walnuts and rosemary in a light cream gorgonzola sauce. Molto delicioso! My date ordered the special - lobster pasta with lima beans, which was also quite tasty. I recommend the spumoni ice cream cake as well. I will be ordering that next time too!

Yelp
This is a place that the Rat Pack, Marilyn, Cary and other celebrities frequented. They demanded and expected the best. It is one of the last great old school LA restaurants where the staff and kitchen catered to the Jet Set celebrity class. The interior decor is high end old school cosmopolitan and the cocktails are perfect, the staff attentive and they have one of, if not the best, Italian chefs in town, Antonio Orlando. The food is elegant Northern Italian. The restaurant was nearly empty, as such the cooking staff is not challenged. Please go in, demand the best from Tony and his staff. Challenge them. Exercise your foodie knowledge and palate - Orlando is a great chef who wants to please and understands the nuisances of taste and can execute. Let's not lose this great restaurant as we did with Villa Capri, Chasens, Scandia, Brown Derby, HMS Bounty and so many more of the great restaurants. Be discerning and let the kitchen please you! Remember dining is a group activity for your enjoyment.

Yelp
I'm a old customer, have had good experience but last Thursday was really disappointed. The manager William was asked to do a chopped salad no meat . The salad had meat I asked it be redone . Instead of remaking it he abruptly removed it threw it away and said he couldn't make another. Then walked away arrogantly. Both the bartender and I were pretty shocked by his actions. I would rate it for less but I've been a semi regular with generally better experience. I hope it gets better as it deserves a better manager than William .

Yelp
We just had our rehearsal dinner at this venue. William and his staff are the absolute best. Very personable and catered to all of our needs, even very last minute. This restaurant is such a hidden gem in LA. Our guests from out of town had such a great time. The upstairs has a beautiful private dining area and courtyard. You just can't find places like this anymore! Thank you for your wonderful service! Chelsea and Kevin

Yelp
Good food poor service. I was taken here by my family for my birthday. We had nine people in our party. The waiter did not understand the menu and could not explain the dishes for both the appetizers and the main courses. One of my friends asked about appetizers . It was a joke because the waiter just kept on going back to the only one he knew about. I asked for just a glass of ice with no water as I had bottled water. No mater how many times I asked it never happened. Prices are a bit high for what you get but it always has been here. The crowds of the past are gone and I can only guess it because of the poor service. When you pay the bucks you just expect more! I kind of doubt that I will be back.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this little gem of a restaurant after seeing a movie down the street. We walked in & felt the old Hollywood vibe and later were told that the booth next to us is where Frank Sinatra sat. The service was great. Our waiter even had an Italian accent which made it feel like we were transported to New York (or at least New Jersey!) for some authentic Italian cuisine. A perfect place to go for ambiance, delicious food & great service.

Yelp
A couple friends texted us said they were here at the bar. We happened to be in the area which made for a great night. Ambient italian place. Service was great. Food was great. Liked the dark old school vibe.

Yelp
Decent Italian food, okay service. Chicken parm was entirely and completely average. Maybe a little above average in taste, but below average in portion size, so a net even. Ground floor has the old school Los Angeles Italian restaurant feel, the upper floor feels a little less well loved, a little more generic.

Yelp
Absolutely am crazy for this old school Los Angeles Italian restaurant. I had the fried clams and eggplant Parmesan and loved every bite. I will return to try many other dishes. I love it here. Special place.

Yelp
I'm not sure if the restaurant is under new management or what... But the poorest experience we've had here in the many years we've been patrons : 1. The restaurant was 70% empty nevertheless it took a very very long time to get our order delivered. 2. Our waiter, although most cordial and amicable spoke little English.. Difficult for him to explain some of the menus offerings. I asked him what sides came with my veal piccata ( excellent by the way) he shared that brocollini and cauliflower .. When it arrived .. There were no vegetables at all .. Just the piccata ! When I asked him where the vegetables were... He seemed confused ! 3. The restaurant ventilation was poor.. Several times I needed to ask to crank up the AC.. They did and then it clicked off again. For the various mishaps , it would have been nice for the management to comp the two desserts that our party of four ordered... Not done ! This is a moderately priced eatery.. The service was disappointing . Not sure if it was due to the kitchen and or the waiter . Sadly, after so many years , we shall not be returning .

Yelp
This restaurant is a sentimental favorite of mine. It reminds me of the great traditional Italian restaurants in Little Italy 50 years ago. For those of you who are immigrants from New York City you will understand it when I say that it feels like Grotta Azzurra in the good old days. Many have commented that the ambience of a Rat Pack hang out exudes from the furniture. This short changes the high quality of the food. The osso buco and veal marsala are totally classic and excellent. The pasta never disappoints. I've had the Cioppino and it is delicious and satisfying. This stuff is always friendly efficient and helpful.

Yelp
Place has changed, great hosts are gone, chef is gone, great waiters gone, the great music was short lived. Was a great place for us locals--regulars.
