Can I please give 6 stars? Beer 10/10 Beer tenders 10/10 People 10/10 Space 10/10 Vibes 10/10 Brewery DOGS 20/10 We go to a loottt of breweries (and worked in fermentation for a brewery for a spell) and this truly is one of the best in all departments. Their beer selection is varied, and all very well executed. Their space and the vibe they've achieved is welcoming, laid back, but anything than boring.

Google
This is a great little brewery! Happened to visit for trivia night, which had a good crowd, nice people! Great beer!!

Google
We came to this brewery because of the glowing reviews—clearly written by people with no sense of smell or standards. There’s a cute husky roaming around, which sounds fun until he jumps up on the counter and barks in your face. The owner assured us “he never barks,” right before rewarding the performance with a treat. Cool. The pizza looked good, but the place smelled like wet dog and hadn’t seen a mop in a while. To top it all off, it was hot and humid inside—nothing like sweating through your shirt while marinating in eau de canine. If you’re into dog-scented saunas with a side of chaos, this is your dream spot. Otherwise, maybe keep scrolling.

Google
Great beer, haven't had the food yet but wow these beers taste great

Google
Super friendly bartender. Knowledgeable and helpful. We had a stout and an ESB. Both were okay. The variety on tap is not to my taste. I wished for wheat or European white beer options. Or ambers or Bohemian style dark beers. The only two I was interested in were the two we got, so I'll maybe come back in a few months when more kegs rotate. For food options I saw a menu with pizza but I didn't see anyone eating pizza. Idk how I feel about the furry faux (?) animal skins. Clean bathrooms. Nice long tables and dining space but the bit between that fromt room and the bathrooms could be improved.

Google
Outstanding experience! The beer is great, the music is wonderful, the service is stellar, and the dogs are pet-able. What more do you need?

Google
The beer was super tasty and so was the pizza! We had a great time at this brewery. Thank you to the owners Matt and Katie for making us feel so welcome.

Google
Really cool brewery and super chill. Food was great - had two of the pizzas and the beer was great too. Plus the owners had a husky there to greet us. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
Great service and vibe! The beers have come along way from when I first came. Really nice spot for a chill night

Yelp
Pretty cool spot. Beer selection is interesting. The brewkeeps are pretty dope, friendly and welcoming. Nice esthetics, retro gaming station and chill husky :) I may return to try some of the other beers on tap, especially if I'm feeling particularly adventurous. They did have a stout that was def my speed (10%+, not syrupy and pretty flavorful). I also want to try the food (looked pretty good). Check em out if you are down that way.

Yelp
I've been here a few time's now both with my book club and with friends. The new owners are very warm, friendly and passionate about the beers they produce always willing to give you more information or even a sample to help you make your best selection. It's mostly picnic table seating but do have a cozy couch corner you can snag as well. They have a couple games you can borrow which is fun. They will be hosting a monthly singles game night which I'm looking forward to checking out. The resident doggo is a beautiful husky that loves people and if you howl will join you, it's hilarious. I have tried the Marzen and the Farm House Ale and both were delicious. I'm hoping they do add ciders eventually for the gluten free and cider enthusiasts.

Yelp
We're such fans of Mattie Groves! Not only is their beer great and affordable, the atmosphere is inviting and friendly! Once usuals at Big Stump, we were so bummed to learned they closed. When we heard Mattie Groves was opening, however, we couldn't be more ecstatic! We popped in twice over the past month and couldn't believe how different the place is! The owners really outdid themselves with the remodel. Talk about glow up! Not to mention they have an adorable resident pupper who hangs around! As for the beer, they definitely have a unique selection that rotates often. I'm just getting into the beer scene (late, I know!) so I'm not too familiar with their offerings. I do know that I tried a beer with elderflower?? That was great! Love this place!

Yelp
Came in for Sacramento Beer Week festivities on a Thursday after work. The guy behind the bar was friendly and efficient. We started with the beer and pizza pairing and ended with some cookies. The beers were all great. Although I'm not usually one for a brown, I especially enjoyed it here. There's a small patio out front. When you come in, there's a small bar top and some long picnic benches. It's a good spot for groups. I'm sure we'll be back soon.

Yelp
Mattie Groves Brewery transformed this space from the last occupants and they did a fantastic job creating a cozy and welcoming vibe! It was a chilly day when we visited but it was nice and quite warm inside, despite sitting near the door. They even have fur pelts draped on the benches, which contributes to the overall coziness. For interior seating, there are several smaller tables as well as longer banquet-style tables, which would be great for larger groups. Since they just opened recently, their beer menu was understandably smaller, but I enjoyed the pours that I had (pale ale and IPA) and they still had a fairly good variety on tap for different preferences. Right now they have full pours and half pours (16oz/12oz and 8oz/6oz depending on the ABV). Would love to see a flight option in the future - I believe they offered samples of anything you wanted, but I prefer flights/taster pours to be able to try more of the menu and at my own pace. It may also be nice to have a large beer menu board of some sort in the future, or multiple copies of the menu available/floating around to help facilitate ordering; there seemed to be a single paper menu at our visit but it had water stains and was difficult to read certain parts. Food-wise, they do not have their own kitchen but you can order food from Old Soul directly at the brewery. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable, and their dog, who seems like the brewery mascot, was super cute as she roamed around. Dogs are definitely welcomed - there were a number of dogs inside and our friend brought his, as well. Overall, Mattie Groves is a solid new addition to Midtown and to the Sacramento beer scene! They've created a cozy and relaxed space to enjoy beer with friends and I am looking forward to trying more of their upcoming releases as they continue to grow.

Yelp
This is a great little, newer microbrewery in Sacramento on the western edge of Midtown at the point where it's practically downtown. Service is excellent, the owners very friendly and enthusiastic. The place is a fairly small taproom with mostly tables with benches and a tiny bar but they have a few chairs as well. The ambience is relaxed and comfortable, especially later int he evening when it's quieter and they turn off the bright overhead lights. Beer quality based on what we had is excellent overall. The Hound of Culann Irish red ale was outstanding. 5 stars. The Little Mathie Groves porter was very good. 4 stars. The They have a food menu which is not extensive and sounds good, but we did not have any food when we were there. We'd definitely go back the next time we're in town.

Yelp
Good beer! They have a lot of board games too, you could hang out here for a couple hours also they're on the Brewery Passport

Yelp
I came in and it felt more as a locals brewery. I wasn't greeted, I walked straight to the line behind a couple. She did hand us a menu while the couple viewed the menu and chitchatted with the brew tender. She walked away to pour their choice. When it was my turn, she was cheery and greeted me. I ordered lady barnyard, blueberry sour. I didn't taste any fruit. It finished like a blonde. I wasn't impressed. We only stop by to kill time before meeting a friend. Oh, you get the overwhelming smell of pizza verse beer/hops. My rating is swayed based on a bathroom incident. As I walked out, a women in a wheelchair was waiting. I offered to hold the door for her and her response was "yes, I can't open it". I walked away thinking how long was she going to wait? There was no button to auto-open the door. As I was walking towards the front, a brewmaster was hosing down the floor. So that got me thinking about a walk floor. I have my docs but what about other people.

Yelp
I love going to this brewery. Everybody is so friendly. And the beer is excellent. You can also order food that is prepared by Old Soul. Highly recommend this place.

Yelp
To be totally honest, not a fan. Doggo is sooo cute, but also barks really loud at people and owners kinda just laugh it off. Drink selection really isn't the best either. Bar food available but nothing to accommodate for food allergies. Has a bit of a Viking type vibe which really isn't my cup of tea. Seats have no backing. Didn't really enjoy my time here. Music also sounds like a narnia sound track. It's not terrible. Just not my thing. Great if your looking for just a glass of beer or cider though.

Sativa S.

Yelp
Been coming to Mattie groves for a while now and honestly there's not many places in sac that make you feel as welcome as the owners do here. Selection of beers covers a good amount of tastes. They offer food from Old Soul and host a variety of events. I recommend this place to everyone. 10/10, five starts doesn't do it justice.

Yelp
This was an incredible stop in Sacremento, with some of the best beer I've had (and so much range), and with such a nice owning family. I'm a sucker for funk and couldn't stay away from the rice braggot with hibiscus, the elderflower saison or the blueberry lavender saison. But the classics were also amazing. Their red was one of my favorite Irish reds ever, a really good Russian imperial stout, and an amazing, not-yet-released and not-yet-named tropical ipa. The service was excellent, and the water station was refreshingy cold. Really cool glassware! The seating was very spacious and welcoming, with board and video games for hanging all day or spending time with the kids. Will be back for the canned fish tasting menu and other food items. Great and safe parking.

Yelp
Christian the bar tender is great! I felt right at home With him and he made my beer drinking experience delightful! He's by far the greatest and really knows his beer!

Yelp
I just wandered in off the street and it felt like home immediately. The owners were great and the vibe was relaxed. Oh yeah, and great beer.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon and I got myself the Old Grove Porter. The beer was very good. The taproom was very nice and spacious. I enjoyed my visit and look forward to coming back some day.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool, little brewery with a great selection of beers. The food menu has 6 different pizzas and 6 different sandwiches. I'm definitely going to try the food next time.
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
The beer was great, especially the Irish red. The pizza sampler my GF and I got was solid. Was a fan of the veggie pizza which is odd for me. They have a small patio out front to take in the downtown vibes, and inside there's plenty of room for group outings with long tables. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Mattie Groves Brewery is Sacramento's newest brewery. The beers were really good, the owners are super cool, Laika the tap room Husky is adorable, and the interior has a really nice vibe. The lighting, theme (Google the poem/song Matty Groves), and fur cushion tables are nice touches. We got their pepperoni pizza, which was really good and feeds two people. They also still have the Super Nintendo from the last brewery for anyone who wants to play games on their TV. Definitely check them out; they are within walking distance of several other Midtown breweries!

Tim S.

Yelp
Geeks, nerds, and punks unite! Gather in peace and prosper :peace: :prosper: :punkrock: Local brews from local folks :) (Yelp was removing emoji, so I went full ASCII on 'em)

Yelp
I've been keeping my eye on this spot since Big Stump left and was excited when I heard a new brewery would be coming in. Poking around on Instagram one day I saw a post indicating Mattie Groves had opened so I came down as soon as Friday came. First thing you notice is the space looks great. The building itself is already a cool open old building but the new owners added a lot of nice accent lighting and really nailed the right mood...lighting can make a huge difference. Next thing is the beer, there is a lot of beer out there, and a lot of good beer in Sacramento..but I have to honestly say I haven't been this happy with a beer in a good long time. The flavors are so balanced with their individual notes coming through perfectly. Next is the people, we spoke with one of the owners to welcome them to the neighborhood and share our delight and they were so incredibly down to earth and kind. There's a good vibe in this space and I wish them the utmost success in midtown and will absolutely be back! Also: dogs.

Yelp
Loved the tables with the furs, very cozy. The beer was really great and I could tell the owners were passionate about what they're doing.

Yelp
I can't believe I've been coming to this brewery for a couple months, now, regularly, and I haven't reviewed it yet. What's going on with me? Do I just want to keep this cool place a secret? I'm actually not big on breweries, but I started coming here with my trivia team for their Tuesday trivia nights and fell in love with the atmosphere. The place is cozy, not very big, but tends to be able to seat the Tuesday regulars just fine at multiple tables and benches. The owners are warm and friendly. Of course, I've gotten to know them a bit more over time, and they are lovely people! Also, the main owner, Laika, is very friendly and greets you with a nice firm paw and cute doggie smile, especially if you have food, lol. She seems to get along with other dogs quite well, too. I'm, unfortunately, not a huge fan of beer, but the beers I have had here were not bad, at all. The food, which I believe is provided by Old Soul Co., has been good. I've mostly had pizza, but I believe they also have canned fish, which I've tried once or twice. We've also been able to bring in our own food and drink without issue. They also have non-alcoholic drinks available, too, which we eventually found out. I should also mention that the trivia host is very friendly and makes everyone feel welcome. We actually followed him from Tipsy Putt to Mattie Groves, because we enjoyed his style of trivia. And with trivia, you can win prizes and join a monthly tournament to win a monthly prize. Visiting Mattie Groves, hanging with friends, is often one of the big highlights of my week. And I don't think that would be possible without a great place to want to come to!

Yelp
Beer so good it saved my marriage. Thanks Matt and Katie! Astounding service! Willing to be my therapist for the low price of a beer! And with a beautiful fantasy theme to help escape my lifelong problems! Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
We arrived at opening. The person working said she'd been over in a minute. Since it was our first time, we didn't know to order at the counter or at the table, but when she said she'd be right with us we assumed we'd order at the table. Then we waiting 15 minutes while she sat up at the front. So then I went up to her to ask where we order and she said at the counter. I wish she had made that clear when we arrived. Then when we ordered we had to order and pay on two tabs - one for food and one for drinks, which is weird. And then we learned the food comes from another restaurant, which should be clear on their menu. The beer was okay but not worth coming back for. The food from old soul was great, but again this should be more clear to customers. Would not recommend going here.

Jonathan C.

Yelp
This is the most underrated brewery in all of Sacramento. Don't let the subtle atmosphere or the overly charismatic owners fool you, the beer is harmoniously crafted. Every item on the menu is interesting enough to order but also another farce. Or maybe the hands that crafted this sweet nectar can't put to words to how close to perfection they have come. Sip each beer and you will land somewhere between something that is so deliciously different or perfectly crafted. Or maybe it will spin along the rims of something closer to a memory of something you had once that was amazing? Or did that sip just kick in a fond memory that you forgot you had? Either way, you will sip on. And while the second, third, and fourth sips confirm the first they are more like an orchestra coming together to play their ultimate symphony. I have to admit, it's been a while since I had beer awake my senses like this and and take me on an adventure.

Yelp
I was glad to see Mattie Groves open up recently in the former location of Big Stump Brewing. I am often in the area and appreciate a stop with good brews in Midtown. The owners provide an inviting environment, but the main draw is well-made craft beer. I've now tried the English Bitter (Who has that in SACtown?), Porter, and IPA. I've liked them all, and the price is a customer-friendly $6.50 per brew. Definitely recommended.

Yelp
This place is a new favorite. Great beer, friendly staff, cute dog, nice patio, and the list goes on! I'll have to try their food and stay for trivia on Tuesday soon

Carlos C.

Yelp
What a great spot to enjoy great beer, ambiance, and games. Wife and I are starting to make a tradition if coming g by on the weekend and it's just a chill place with and active ownership, with their pup keeping customers feeling home.

Jaime J.

Yelp
Love this brewery that took over the old brewery space. The couple that owns it and runs it (and their super sweet dog) are great. Their Irish Red ale is my favorite red I've had in Sacramento. The vibe is very welcoming and my husband and I regularly pop in for a pint and a board game. Highly recommend this brewery too if you want something other than the typical ten-IPAs-and-one-lager type of brewery scene....though they make a nice IPA too.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
This place was nice and cozy! Beer quality was pretty good, bartender Christian was very welcoming and accommodating. He was able to guide us in the right direction of what beer style would be great for my palate. Definitely coming back again. Plus pizza menu is delicious!
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Great new business in town! The owners are very pleasant and friendly, including their sweet husky Lika. The atmosphere is very chill. The beer is smooth, and they also provide sandwhiches and pizza... the margarita pizza and pesto chicken are very tasty! We will definitely be back for more!

Karen J.

Yelp
Such a great experience! Great beers and the owners are wonderful hosts. All feel welcome at Mattie Groves.

June P.

Yelp
This place is terrible. I'm still unsure how they have almost 5 stars. We tasted their beer at the Sac Republic event and then went to their brewery. Their "ipa" was awful and we are still wondering why. We definitely will not be back based on their beer.

Charleigh C.

Yelp
You can tell the love and care put into this place. We had wanted to stop by since they opened and finally got the chance. The food and bevvies were fantastic. They had excellent recommendations based on our preferences, which was very helpful. Inside can only be described as comforting and fun, with a loose fantasy theme and a great crowd.

Jared S.

Yelp
Great new brewery ! Cool employees , great beer . Everyone should go check this place out!!

Shannyn C.

Yelp
Great beer, great service, great owners, great environment! Do yourself a favor and stop in!

Marcus F.

Yelp
great selection of housemade beers, good vibes, great service and outdoor seating nicest staff 11/10 it's a must visit

Jennifer B.

Yelp
With so much great beer in Sacramento it can be hard to stand out, but Mattie Groves does just that. They always have a nice variety and every single beer is always delicious. Seriously. They never miss. Combine that with the sweetest brewery dog, cozy/cool vibes, and friendly owners, it's a can't miss. Do yourself a favor and order a pizza from Old Soul while you're at it and ask what beer you should pair with your pie.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Wonderful people. Wonderful location. Wonderful beer. Simply the best and can't wait for the fun times that await in future visits. Hi Laika!

Miranda L.

Yelp
Highly recommend this Brewery! Not only is the location amazing but, the beer, the atmosphere, and the owners are amazing as well!! Not to mention they are dog friendly!

Deb D.

Yelp
Great beers! Great place to chat, play cards or a board game. Super friendly owners who make you feel at home.

Brooke R.

Yelp
This is definitely one of our favorite new spots in Midtown. The people who run it are friendly and authentic, the beer is really good and they offer some non- traditional options. We tried the food today and both the sandwich and the pizza were delicious. The vibe is super chill and cozy. Finally, Laika the husky is reason enough to visit.

Breanna K.

Yelp
This place is amazing the food/beer is sooo good and the service was everything. Staff is kind and had great conversations plus the cute dog. Definitely recommend

Nicholas G.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. The beer is varied and always good. Trivia brings us back every week and the owners are always nice and welcoming!

Alexis L.

Yelp
Pretty cool place. Interesting beer selection and they're priced a little lower than most places.

Travis W.

Yelp
The beer is top notch, wide selection of beer types. The owners are really nice and the dog is super cute, ambiance is on point. What more could you ask for?

P Z.

Yelp
Went for taste during the first day of soft opening. Great beer, friendly hosts, lovely dog.
