I LOVED this place! I was excited to actually be able to partake in the Kansas City Barbeque scene! The Brisket Sandwich was REALLY good. The macaroni and cheese side was one of the best I've had since going vegan. I decided that I couldn't choose between that and the cornbread, so I got both. It was a great decision since the cornbread was delicious as well. The vibe in the restaurant is bright and sunny. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Who could ask for anything more?

Amazing atmosphere, wonderful menu with a perfect variety. I absolutely love tofu, so the bbq brisket sandwich was exactly what I needed. Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious as well. Going to come back as much as possible. So happy I discovered this gem.

Black woman owned vegan restaurant tucked away in a quieter part of Kansas City. As an adventurous non vegan with a not so adventurous vegan partner, we were both pleasantly surprised by Matties. Friendly service, clean and artsy atmosphere, willing to educate on nonfamiliar items. Food was excellent. Would definitely recommend and definitely return when visiting Kansas City.

All I need to say is “NACHO MAC”!!! The cornbread is sooo moist and delicious. The buffalo chic sandwich is legit! The side dishes are divine! To top it off, the energy in the space and from the staff is on point! A family business that is powered in love. Thank you India and Arvelisha for stepping out on faith and living fearlessly through your ministry. Mattie’s has it going on!

Hands down best nachos around and I'm not even vegan nor vegetarian. I got them spicy with jackfruit, perfect amount of spice and so much flavor! Surprisingly generous serving size. My 6 year old got mild and said it was great. Friendly and inviting staff and atmosphere. Will be back to try more.

Very nice people, I ordered the nachos (gluten-free!) and since they were out of Jackfruit and I can’t eat gluten or soy. The options were Jackfruit, Seitan (which I didn’t know what it was but apparently it is vital wheat gluten. No thanks I have Celiac), so I got extra beans. The cheese and sour cream is made with cashews. The whole restaurant is Vegan, I am not but saw the menu and found gluten-free and soy free options and since it is vegan I don’t have to worry about dairy products. Oh my goodness the nachos were so good, it’s a good thing I got the mild because they were a little bit spicy so the spicy nachos would have been too much. I will definitely be back. The atmosphere is super cool too, the walls are painted by a local artist with flowers. My Mom ordered the BBQ Chic salad and she thought it contained chicken, she was confused when I told her there wasn’t because the restaurant was entirely vegan.

I've had vegan mac and BBQ tofu at probably a dozen places across the country, and this is honestly some of the best I've had of both. The BBQ Chic sandwich (as a slider so I could try them all) was definitely the highlight!

I can not get enough of this space and the energy. I walked in to be greeted by what felt like family. A familiar auntie welcoming me home and into the kitchen. The food was incredible 100 percent vegan, soy free options available. The space was clean and bright and welcoming. Worth it! Just for the sheer joy of being there let alone the fantastic taste of this food.

i've always heard of Mattie's Foods but never had the opportunity to visit. I was in the neighborhood and decided to check it out. right when you walk in, everyone is so friendly and i was honestly overwhelmed with the menu and what to get (everything looks delicious!!). this was such a nice place to dine and they also have a food truck parked outside! i will be back to try other things from the menu

Sister ordered her meal from here today. Mattie's is completely vegan. The customer service was great, all the workers were very polite and nice. The food was good. She's new to veganism so it still takes some adjusting to. She ordered meatloaf, greens, yams, mac and cheese, cornbread for one meal. The other meal was a smothered burrito. The said all of the food was good. She could taste maybe some coconut milk in the mac and cheese. The meatloaf was very good too. I tasted some of the burrito, it was certainly good too! It had beans and "chicken", very good flavor. It was a very pleasant ambiance. Great vibes.

Mattie's is primarily a plant based restaurant and is located in a building with other tenants. There is limited, shared parking for all of the tenants. But there is plenty of on-street parking nearby. Simple interior. A multi-generational family was already seated upon my arrival. It took a few minutes before the cashier arrived. She let me know it would take about 15 minutes to receive my order and asked if that was okay. I appreciated that she asked. However, it took longer to receive my food (chik'n Philly with mushrooms instead of soy curls), which was understandable due to the size of the aforementioned family that hadn't received their order yet. The employee apologized for the wait upon delivering my food. Not mad about it at all. It was nice to see the support for the restaurant and witness the love amongst the family. The sandwich was filling, tasty and came with chips. I also had a delicious mango drink. Employees were very nice. Will have to return and check out other items. Could be 5 stars. Recommended.

Really liked the Brisket Samich! Food takes about 20 minutes to come out. I would love to see them eliminate plastic, single-use utensils, it would go more with their vibe.

Unique spot near Brookside that my employee research group pulled up on this past Saturday. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the vegan fare, but they positively did not disappoint. I tried their nachos and was pleasantly surprised by the Seitan and the accompanying flavors. I got great recommendations for what I should order. The hosts were so nice to my group and our food came out in a timely manner. Can't wait to get back and try their breakfast options. Can't forget the banana pudding cake they recommended. FIRE!!! `

Best vegan food in town! Friendly service and the food is worth the wait because you know many of the dishes are prepared fresh, like the Chik'n Philly. Greens, yams and cornbread are all terrific! Unlike most vegan restaurants, there is variety, excellent quality, and it tastes absolutely amazing - owner obviously has an understanding that food prepared with love can touch the soul! Can't wait to come back so we can try everything on the menu!

The service was quick, there were a lot of options to choose from and the restaurant space was clean with a fair amount of seating for the size of it. 10/10 will be coming back.

The Feed My Soul Bowl features greens and cornbread, Mac-n-cheese, yams and meatloaf-all plant based and it is DELICIOUS!!! In need of some down-home cooking, good ol' comfort food or something for the soul....you should give this one a try! The service is always good and the space is bright and inviting!!

I'm about to be the biggest back at this place. When I tell you this is the best vegan restaurant, omg . The food and service 10/10! Very welcoming!

I went with my mom and it wasn't busy at all, but it took us 20 minutes to even get our order taken (they have your order at the desk and then sit). The lady taking our order had airpods in and didn't hear our order so she forgot my food, but we had her fix it. 25 minutes later and neither our food or drinks had come out (keep in mind, there was only one other couple in the whole store). They then told us they threw away our food ticket so we had to wait over 30 minutes. All we ordered was the biscuit and gravy and their sandwich. The service was terrible, would not recommend coming here. I would also like to mention I tried to give this place as much grace as I could! The servers were polite, it's just the inconvenience and repeated mistakes that had become a nuisance. They gave us a peach cobbler to make up for waiting over an hour.

One of the first vegan places where the biscuits and gravy actually tastes amazing. If I wasn't told it was vegan I wouldn't have known. BBQ tofu Nachos was also great. The bbq tofu had a great consistency and flavor. The cashew sour cream was delicious and I do not normally eat sour cream. The chicken salad was also really good, I had a couple bites and the vegan chicken had a nice crunch to go along with the salad and dressing. Definitely coming back if I'm in the area.

The food was so delicious. I ended up with plate envy when seeing the other patrons food that had come out before ours did. It all looked and smelled delicious, but the taste was sooo good! I had the Philly wrap but also had a bite of the quesadilla.. We can't wait to do this again.

I love this place and the loving vibe it brings. I brought my cousin here who was visiting from ATL and he is a vegetarian. He said this place is now his # 1 spot ! He loved every bite and was so excited to eat this vegan comfort food. I personally am not opposed to meat, but I'm not opposed to Mattie's meatless entrees! It is made so well that you don't notice the meat missing. Totally plant based and blows our minds!

Located near brookside, this black and women owned vegan eatery is definitely worth trying. It serves breakfast and lunch items that include breakfast sammys, nachos, sliders and more. I stopped in for lunch and tried the buffalo seitan nachos. Yum. So good. A good-sized portion of gluten free chips and the spice on the meat was just enough of a kick. Note it's not for wimps - so be sure to tell them you either like it spicy or not and they will gladly adjust. I will definitely come back for breakfast - lots of positive reviews about the breakfast offerings.

For vegan food by black women in KS City Mo this spot is dope. The food is delicious and a must try for anyone working to change their eating habits. The service is good the people are engaging and kind and the ambiance is fine as well. This is a must try place for all!

Happened to be in the area. Looked on Yelp it showed Mattie's as one close option. My husband and I know very little about vegetarian proteins. They were very helpful educating us. I had the burrito and my husband had the BBQ sandwich. We both thought it was very good! The two women working could light up a room with their smiles and kind manner. Hand painted wall mural and artwork just lights up the space. Just a very positive experience all around. A must try if you live in the area. Unfortunately we do not.

Excellent food and service. From the moment you enter you feel like you are being welcomed in by a friend. The food is so good you don't even realize it's vegan.

TikTok brought me here! I came Sunday afternoon and the line was to the door. I knew we were in for a treat! Despite the long line, the server was friendly and acknowledged us upon entering. We quickly got to the counter and ordered the nachos, hot chik wrap and sampler plate. Everything was phenomenal! We took the order to go but they do offer seating. It's a very cute and cozy spot. Maybe enough space for 25 or so.

Splurgey delicious vegan soul food. The greens are yummy, the cornbread perfectly lightly sweet. The buffalo jackfruit mac and cheese was magic. Like... Better jackfruit texture than I've ever had and way too creamy to be true! The strawberry shortcake, however, was what kept us asking "Are you SURE this is vegan??" It wasn't just the best vegan shortcake and whipped cream I've had, it was the best strawberry shortcake I've had in AGES. Period.

If you're looking for simple comfort food with a vegan twist, this is a great place to try. Pros: - tasty food. I had the brisket sandwich (tofu) and candied yams. The yams were a bit too sweet for my palate, but the sandwich was just right. I also sampled my friend's BBQ sandwich (made with soy curls) and it was equally good. Her mac and cheese side was decent, but probably not as good as I expected. Frankly, it tasted like Kraft. - black-owned business. Always a plus, but especially for Juneteenth. - friendly staff. There was just the one lady acting as cashier and server, but she was nice and efficient. - simple shop, good location. Cons: - spendy! Everything is these days, but nearly $30 for a very basic lunch is a lot. The sandwich was $13. The side, which is pretty small, was $5. And water (about a half-sized bottle) is $2.50 (they don't offer free water). With tax and tip, it was, well, a lot. - seating. I'm a thin person who was wearing a summer dress. To put it bluntly, I need a bit of cushioning because my clothes and body don't provide much. The chairs were metal grids without any cushioning. Stylish and easy to clean, but my butt and legs probably looked like a checkerboard when I was done, and it was fairly uncomfortable. Nonetheless, it's a good business concept, and in this bougie part of Brookside, people actually seem to enjoy spending more. So thumbs up!

Beautiful little spot in Kansas City! Friendly staff, clean and colorful restaurant. We loved the spinach dip which tasted like spinach/artichoke mixed with queso. We also loved the sliders, especially the bbq and Buffalo. Tacos were good but not as good as the sandwiches.

Mattie's was absolutely phenomenal!! We got the Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese with jalapeños, the burrito (with Seitan for the protein), and the cornbread. My first bite of the Mac and cheese left me speechless because it was so yummy, and don't even get me started on the cornbread--AMAZING!! The burrito reminded me of chili flavors and was very yummy as well!! This was the perfect spot for some delicious comfort food, I can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu!!

Amazing unassuming spot for the most delicious Vegan Brisket Sandwich! Staff is super friendly and helpful for the newbie to vegan food. Pair this with a hoppy Tiny Session from BKS Brewery next door and your weekend is set!

This was a surprising treat near our Air BnB while visiting for a Chief's game. Food was amazing, and wait staff very friendly. Even the non-vegans liked the food!

Found this food truck at the Whole Body Health and Wellness event I'm Kansas City. The vegan tacos were out of this world! So delicious!!! Best vegan tacos I've ever had.

We're visiting KC from a small Kansas town that doesn't have many vegan options, so we always love to try to find great vegan restaurants when we go to bigger cities. I'm so glad we stopped here! The atmosphere of the building is so bright and cheerful, everyone working was incredibly nice and welcoming, and the food was probably the best vegan food I've ever had! Everything was amazing, and I know we will definitely stop back in if we're coming through the area!

I'd purchased several jars of vegan nacho cheese from Mattie's but never had their food. I finally got a chance to try their nachos and they were AMAZING! I'm not vegan, but I'd probably choose those over traditional nachos. The food is good and the service is great. Every time I see the owner, she has a big smile on her face. If you haven't tried Mattie's you're missing out!

I love, love, love Mattie's Vegan Eats and I'm not even vegan. The nachos with jackfruit are great. I wish they were warmer, but I typically pop them in the microwave for a bit. It will fill you up so the price is nice for how much they give you. The Mac & cheese is also amazing. It's a little pricey, but I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor. I haven't stopped wanting some since. The women who own the food truck are really nice. I had a pretty decent wait time the first time I went, but lately, it's been pretty quick.

I love Mattie's Foods! It truly is comfort food. Rich, filling, delicious, and generous servings! I go to Made in KC Cafe about once a week for a Matties Breakfast Sandwich - so good! And it feels great to support this local small business with my dining deliciously dollars!

Customer Service was excellent , The food is very good. Prices are very affordable . I will go back weekly if the weather allows.

I may move to Kansas City so we can eat here more often!! The owners are great! The restaurant is small, but light and airy. The service is great! The food is beyond! We got the tofu brisket and all the sides-my greens never taste as good as Mattie's! The Mac & Cheese and baked beans were also delicious. And 'momma' (sorry I didn't get your name!) suggested their famous rolls for dessert. We got the Peach crumble-you guessed it-amazing! We flew the food home to CA and had it for dinner...and wondered why we hadn't been there more during our trip! Our Uber driver tried to guess where the delicious smelling BBQ was from since he's a KC native and knows them all-he didn't know Mattie's, and at the end of our ride, he asked again for the name so he could take his GF. Next time I'll order extra sauce and pickles and may try those famous nachos! Oh and we'll get there early to try breakfast!

I ordered Matties Breakfast Burrito at Front Range in Fairway KS. WHOA! Mind blown how great the burrito was. I ordered it to go at Front Range and still hot when I got to my desk at work. The flavors are incredible, the hash is great, and everything in the burrito is pure fire! I highly recommend picking up the breakfast burrito where ever in the city you can find it!

As a southern girl, who grew up on soul food, this place will make you wonder if it isn't the real deal. It has all of the comforting flavors and textures, and fully vegan. I am fortunate to work upstairs. Everyone should give it a try!!

So so SO delicious! I got the tacos with seitan with corn tortillas and they were delightful. The prices are so reasonable for such large portions of real, homemade, veggie/vegan food. So much flavor and zero guilt. Added bonus of supporting a wonderful local business and this place is my new to-go!

We used Mattie's for a catering event. Their vegan chili is the best! Everyone commented how delicious it was. Everything on their menu is vegan. I haven't eaten at the restaurant but I'm looking forward to it. Their full pan of chili on their catering menu is 6-7 quarts of chili or about a large crock pot full just to give you an idea of how many people it would feed. It's very filling. They were very helpful getting the food & even gave me some vegetable broth just in case I needed it to make the chili soupier. I highly recommend this place.

This food truck is in my top 3 list of favorite places to get food! They serve delicious vegan nachos, tacos, and more that even non-vegans will enjoy. I always get the nachos with seitan. Words honestly can't even explain my love for this place! They're locally owned and I try to go every time they come to Independence!

We got biscuit sandwiches for breakfast and they were so yummy!! We loved the vegan sausage and jam. Very flavorful and comforting.

AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! I had to call them to make sure I was eating all plant based! It's so good! I ordered the chicken/sausage pasta and the strawberry shortcake keep in mind that pasta is ONLY available Thursday and Friday after 4pm! I highly recommend!

Mattie's is TOP NOTCH plant-based food (scratch that - it's just TOP NOTCH FOOD). I just had the brisket with a side of greens, and frankly I'm blown away. Everything was perfect, the staff are all warm, friendly and efficient. I will be going back (many many times). In addition, I thought it was my first time eating Mattie's food, but my spouse reminded me that last week she got carry out and brought over some tacos for lunch (I wasn't aware that they were from Mattie's too), so I had those too, and they were truly amazing. Mattie's brick-and-mortar building started DURING the pandemic, and they're still doing great, so you know this business knows what it's doing.

I ordered delivery, and no one let me know it was here so at first I was frustrated. Then I took a bite...omg! I got the Buffalo Mac with jackfruit and greens. 1. Mix them. 2. Be prepared, this was SO FLAVORFUL! My mouth danced for joy. Even a day later and cold, this was to die for. I will DEF be ordering again, but maybe next time in person...
