Our 14 Favorite Restaurants In Liberty City - Miami - The Infatuation

"Mattie’s At Jumbo’s is located at the northeasternmost corner of Liberty City, and it has undergone some changes in the last decade. Previously known as “Jumbo’s,” this restaurant has a history as one of the first restaurants in the city to desegregate in the ’60s. It’s remained a neighborhood staple since, where folks come to enjoy Southern dishes like fried chicken, shrimp, pigeon pea rice, macaroni, and collard greens. Portions are big, so there’s a good chance you’ll have some leftovers to take with you when you leave." - India Amos, Ryan Pfeffer, Virginia Otazo

The customer service was great. The meat was good, but the sides was not. We got turkey wings, oxtails, and fried ribs. Sides: Mac n cheese, cabbage, greens, and yams. The cake had mold on it. The drink was good.

Excellent customer service! Mr Aubrey, CEO was so humble and reassuring on questions about the taste of his food. I did not even know he was the owner until after I finished my meal. Shout out to the Chef! Everything was awesome...Shy @the front counter gives great customer service with a good attitude regardless if problems arise. I watched her interact with different personalities and mannerisms and she was consistent. They play old school music, allow customers to play cards while they dine, and even entertain the jokes from customers. I felt right at home as I enjoyed my food with family. Thank you for a great first-time experience! 👍😍

Bad: No AC Good: Food was delicious. Tasted like my momma & aunt was in the kitchen throwing down. Punch was something my aunt used to throw together for church or big family functions. Oh they are the best. Made us feel at home knew we weren't from there. Will visit again.

If you're looking for authentic Jamaican food, this is the spot. Hubby and I were in town for the weekend (Doral) and traveled a short distance to experience the cuisine after reading reviews online. The place looks sketchy from the outside, and once you enter, you may question if you want to stay, but babee, if you leave without trying the food, you'll definitely regret it. The young ladies taking the order were so welcoming, and the on-site security helped me to relax a bit. The decor looks like it's from the 1950s, but I'm glad we chose to stay, order, and eat. We both ordered the oxtail meal. I have been talking about the goodness of my meal since returning to NC from our trip.

Food was delicious and the service was great! We were visiting from out of town and really wanted some good down south cooking! We chose the right spot the turkey wings were so tender and flavorful, we also had the macaroni and cabbage! It’s So good order a double side of Mac lol! We also had fried chicken, fried pork chops, spaghetti, collards, 6piece grilled shrimp, corn muffins, and the meals came with yellow rice, we spent about $75(no drinks) it was worth it. The meals were large, nice and hearty like your granny made it, next time we’re in town we’ll be back because did I also forget to mention the service was GREAT! It was a wait but also worth it, TRY IT!

This restaurant is closed and looks abandoned. When our Uber pulled up we thought he took us to the wrong place. Lots of abandoned cars, and dumpsters overflowing with trash. Banner was torn down. Don't waste your time going.

I'm all for supporting black businesses which is why I came. Oxtails were dry no gravy nothing. Macaroni and cheese dry dressing was actually good tho i couldn't stomach the dry food so 26 dollars down the drain. Young man at the register was very nice but man it was at least 115. Degrees in there I'm sure it is against Labor laws to have ppl work in those conditions but I digress

Driving down the NW 7th Avenue Liberty City corridor, the constant traffic sometimes causes you to only drive by some great businesses. Thank goodness, it slows at Mattie's because it must, as customers are waiting in line to enter Matties's Soul Food Kitchen. Patrons became creative in parking there, due to how popular this soul food restaurant has come to be. Luckily, additional parking was purchased across the street, and after rush hour it is not a challenge to cross at all. The food was good, period! That is all you need to know about that. The staff was friendly, and you can either dine-in, at the tables with chairs, or at the counter. Take out ordering is also available. The restaurant was clean and the wait staff friendly, and there is dedicated space for open mic events.

Yelp
This is the new location- Give them a chance! You won't be disappointed. As they are bring the pieces together for the interior..All the pieces are together with the food. They are really on point! This was one of the 3 places we tried for real Soul Food and Super customer service. Just so happen- We were able to watch the game while waiting on our food. I ordered Grilled Pork Chops, Collard Greens and Yams and Virg got the Fried Shrimp and Conch, Collard Greens and Yams they both came with Pigeon Peas and Rice. We both got two of the Signature drinks and we shared a Banana Pudding.( I was so hungry and didn't take any pictures). It was DELICIOUS!

Yelp
Jumbos use to be my spot to go to after the club. After they closed, I have not been here since. Note do not go here for the ambiance. There are much needed repairs that need to be done. It's all about the food. We had the 10 piece fried chicken wings that were to die for. I would definitely go back. But I didn't like the fact that there are no prices listed. There's a board and all the prices are blacked out with tape. When you ask the answer is I give the prices when you order. So does the prices change daily? Me being a very visual person they really need to start fixing up the inside. The ceiling is missing pieces and stained and it's not the cleanness on the inside and there's a wet smell.

Yelp
Definitely wouldn't eat here again. I had the fried chicken dinner with Mac & cheese and yams. The chicken & Mac & cheese had SUCH a strange aftertaste I believe it was old or something.

Yelp
The Turkey Wings was so good the only problem was they needed more food and they served on styrofoam plates and plastic folks. The watermelon koolaid was good.

Yelp
I ordered food from this location yesterday honestly I'm not big on complaining but I was served pure garbage my Mac and cheese had no cheese nor flavor the greens were dry and also no flavor those oxtail was dry and I only had like six pieces I wouldn't dare spending any money with this restaurant they just out to take money
