Matto Espresso

I visited this spot twice during my trip to NYC. Highly recommend for a quick bite. It’s a small but lovely and well-organized space. The pastries are well made, especially the feta and spinach pie. Lovely staff, which always adds to the experience. :)

I got a Strawberry Matcha Latte (9/10) and an Iced Americano(8.5/10) and the Spinach Feta Pastry (8.5/10) and Butter Croissant (10/10). Fast service and pretty affordable. Beautiful ambience and great music. Would definitely come again!

Needed some caffeine, opened up google maps and decided to stop by. Great service and good coffee. Got my kick for the day. The customer infront of me was ordering multiple drinks, +10 at most and probably for the office. The other barista greeted me with a warm smile and made sure I was noticed. They expedited my americano so I didn't have to wait for the prior order to be completed. Bless you guys! Most definitely will return to try your signature drinks and pastries.

I saw the almond croissant from the side walk and couldn't resist the temptation to go in and get one. It didn't disappoint! Absolutely delicious, freshly baked, tender. And the coffee was also amazing! On top of these, the service was great, lovely people! Don't hesitate, treat yourself to amazing food, at a very convenient price!

Amazing coffee and pastry cafe. Premium espresso drinks. Moderately priced. Franz the manager is so nice and accommodating. I only come here and the other locations for my iced cold brew redeye. The almond croissants are as delicious as they are in Paris.

Ordered a flat white, received this (photo). Clearly don't know what a flat white is. Burnt/cheap beans. Came in a takeaway cup when sitting in. Not a word spoken by either member of staff. 1 star may seem harsh, but I didn't get what I ordered.

We showed up at the right time...it was not busy. Staff was very nice, prices are reasonable for NYC. Hot peppermint mocha and hot chocolate were delicious. We did not get pastries, but they looked like they were really good.

Matto is the cheapest coffee in midtown by a long shot! I've been going here long enough to remember when everything was $2.50, but the prices are still better than average, even after the increases (Download and order in the app for the best prices). There's also no extra charge for nondairy milks! I usually get an iced latte, iced strawberry matcha, or a pistachio cold brew - all super refreshing. I've also tried some of their hot food, which I think is just reheated when you order, but it tastes fresh enough. The chocolate chip cookie is the bomb! The cafe itself is small, but cozy. There aren't too many seats, but it's clean and well lit. It gets pretty busy during the morning and lunch rush, but the staff stays friendly and patient.

I haven't seen prices like this in a VERY long time! Everything is $3 and there are charges for extras like whipped cream or flavored syrups. I got a matcha latte which was a good deal, but hardly had any matcha flavor at all. I do suppose you get what you pay for. Not terrible if you just need a caffeine fix, but don't expect anything exceptional.

I'm going to put my old guy voice on and say "I remember when everything was $2 here" app or no app! Over the past several years since the various Matto locations have been opened, their menu is even more elevated, with a lot of pistachio-based treats. And while they still remain budget friendly, you're going to want to order in-app with a pre-loaded account to get the best deals! The friendly barista greeted everyone who walked in and had my order ready fast. The cold brew I ordered was refreshing, the sandwich fantastic, and both easily rival (if not beat) anything at Starbucks, for a fraction of the price.

If you ordered from the app the items are $3. There are seatings and mini table in the cafe shop. Ordered a scone which can be heated. It is a cute little place you can sit down and enjoy your coffee and pastries. Service: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Ambience: 4/5

I love the Matto, as I'm a local and it's very good and affordable. But I think they treat their workers unfairly, and I especially saw it at this location. It's a larger location so I was shocked to see only one barista there on a Saturday afternoon. Not only are they getting bombarded with the online orders- but then additionally with tons of walk in customers from the Rockefeller tourist traffic. It took probably 15-20 minutes for my order to be ready (one cappuccino), which I do not blame the barista for at all. He was keeping his composure and apologized but was clearly stressed out, as anyone would be. I just felt so bad for him, and I'm sure most people coming in were not tipping. The hourly pay would need to be high for this to be ok. But really it would be best if they staff their locations better. Lots of people want to work in the city, so I imagine it wouldn't be hard to employ people unless they are only paying them minimum wage. Not sure what's going on, but wanted to say something.

Matto Espresso is a must do. It's not only a great way at enjoying quality drinks/sweets/pastries, but the price will ALWAYS be better than the conglomerate chain coffee shops. Most items are $3.00, the service is friendly, and there is a small seating area, if you want to enjoy your selections in the cafe. My Iced Latte was amazing, as well as the Vegan Banana Bread. Don't hesitate to come into Matto. Enjoy the savings and spend that extra money, feet away, on 5th Avenue.

Matto, where everything starts at only $3. Still the Best deal in the city. Good fresh coffee, latte and cappuccino. As I was walking cross town I spotted this Matto and knew I needed a Pistachio Cold brew. I pulled up the app and placed an order. Service is excellent , the iced cup of my new favorite coffee drink was waiting for me as I walked inside. Perfect drink for a hot day.

I don't understand how this place has 4.2 stars on Yelp. I came here on Jun 27th around 2ish-pm and the young lady working the bar had the most terrible attitude. No smile to greet us and she continued to have an upset expression the whole time . We ordered two double shot espressos, a matcha latte, and a refresher tea. She only registered one of the espresso shots on the order and when we asked her for the second one, she exclaimed in an angry tone and a scolding finger, "You Only Ordered One!! You Only Ordered One!! ". Anyone with a hint of customer service would have apologized and corrected the situation kindly however we instead had a rude rebuttal to us looking for our second espresso. The espresso in itself was good, nothing outstanding, but not disappointing nor flat. Matcha quality was poor compared to what my wife is used to.

Oh My God. This place was amazing. They were quick and friendly. Practically no line. All the pastries we tried were delicious. And the espresso. They really nailed it with that one. I got the caramel shaken espresso with oatmilk. It definitely hit the spot. This is such a cute spot, Would recommend if you're looking for a quick pick me up and are in the area.

Quality of the coffee is not very good. I had a decaf americano. Very watery and a strange I'm coffee like taste. I have been a customer since the chain started up in NYC. No more.

Matto is inexpensive coffee and pastries. When I'm in this neighborhood I stop in to get some Cinnamon Scones to take home. I've had the app on my phone for some time now. Today was the first time I received a email from Matto Espresso. I was surprised. I don't have any interest in fixing the coffee at home. I do need to stop in for my biscuits and scones though! I'm recommending if you're in the neighborhood.

The vibes are great here. Great music playing, fast service. The vanilla latte hit the spot (I'm no coffee snob) and the latte art was so pretty. The app kinda sucks to use so I downloaded and promptly deleted

A tasty little coffee shop with good prices. I had a Banana Date Latte plus a protein ball and my wife had an iced Vanilla Latte.

Great service on 46th and 5th / 6th. Every day consistent and great renovation! The people working are a step above.

The menu is simple but the café drinks are very good. I ordered a regular latte with whole milk and it was excellent. The workers were very friendly and the drinks were made quickly. Definitely one of the better café options in the area.

I'm a newbie to Matto so I didn't realize you had to have the app to gain access to the discounted menu, so I ended up paying ~$4.50 for my vanilla sweet cream cold brew. It's important to note that on the app, you have to load money in (you can't connect your card or use ApplePay directly). While service was fast, the overall coffee quality was not great. My drink was watery, the cold brew was not strong at all (and tasted like regular coffee vs cold brew), and they put way too much ice in. The vanilla tasted super artificial as well. The coffee tasted bitter and without body. Unfortunately, I can see that one of the things they sacrifice for a very slightly cheaper drink is a large chunk of quality. Definitely not for the coffee snobs out there!

A quick walk from our hotel led us here. It's a cute shop, good service but amazing prices. We got 2 special lattes and it was under $8! Lots of pastries and food options too, quick service. A good midtown coffee spot!

For $3 coffee this spot is more than satisfactory. I needed some caffeine so was looking on Yelp for good spots, and this one caught my eye. We walked over at around 4pm and it wasn't too busy. Everything is one price I believe, and we went with a classic iced latte with a bit of vanilla and oat milk. Usually, this would cost me at least $6 at a regular coffee shop but here it was only around $3! The coffee wasn't super strong, but still had a pretty decent flavor and I loved the oat milk option. I'd come back to try some of their other items for sure.

I thought Matto was great, such a great deal in Midtown! Everything is $3.50, you don't pay extra for alternative milks. They are efficient, and drinks are good. I had a potato boureka, which they heated up, and it was flaky and delicious. There's a little seating inside, and a couple tables outside. I wish they had these where I live!!

Everything at Matto is only $2.50. I really liked their baked goods, however their drinks were only ok, but not bad for the price. I would recommend the chocolate chip cookies and the cheese triangle!

$2 coffee and $2 for the tea, middle or medium size, can't beat those kinds of prices in NY. My husband said the coffee would be about $3.50 back at home. The mint tea was decent as well. It's a small footprint but doesn't need to be bigger, it's mostly a carry out spot. The cups and prep area is by the window in the front. It's narrow and can get congested quick but orders come out quickly.

I cannot believe I've never heard of Matto Espresso before, considering how many locations there are! Everything in the cafe is only $2, be it an oat milk latte or a pistachio muffin. Absolutely perfect in terms of affordability and quality-- Matto serves a really rich dark roast that I find gives a chocolatey roundness to the palate. I ordered their Nitro Cold Brew with oat milk (still $2 with your preference of milk/syrup) and a Croissant Sandwich (with scrambled eggs and a slice of tomato). Their app is also relatively easy to use and you can pay through it to earn rewards. For every $50 you spend, you receive a $5 credit. One of my favorite features on the app is the fact that they will organize all locations by distance from you, which makes it so easy to get delicious coffee at any given moment. There is outdoor seating available at this location, though it is a busy street and occasionally you will find a food truck or two parked next to the seating area. All in all a fantastic chain that I will be returning to soon!

Traveled to NYC for 3 days. This cute little coffee shop was right around the corner from my hotel. I loved walking there and having a danish and beautiful coffee every day. They guys working in the shop were very pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend this shop.

I love coffee and I also love cheap things, so obviously, I love Matto. Everything on their menu, from drinks to sweets to food is only $2!!! An iced latte? $2! An avocado sandwich? $2! An espresso drink with non-dairy milk? Still also only $2! It's absurd how happy this place makes me. I have tried a few of their drinks and food items/pastries and they always do the trick to caffeinate me and leave me feeling satisfied, all the more so when I remember that each item was only $2. I really enjoy their Red Eye (coffee + espresso shot) and their Iced Lattes are pretty decent for the price! It's honestly a steal that they don't charge anything extra for non-dairy milk alternatives and they're probably one of the only coffee spots in the city that does that. The fact that I can get my regular order of an Iced Almond Milk Latte for only $2 as opposed to the $6 I'd pay at a typical Manhattan cafe just makes me so happy. I also love their avocado egg croissant sandwich; there is a good amount of avocado in it for the measly price! I highly recommend downloading their app to get $5 free, meaning a free drink and food item or even two drinks/pastries! You can order ahead for pick up directly in the app for speed and convenience. I'm a big Matto fan now and I will definitely be back. $2 coffee in Manhattan is a blessing.

I was planning on going to a coffee/breakfast place closer to my conference venue, but the $2 everything sign drew me in and got the best of my curiosity! Solid breakfast place in NYC. Nothing fancy, but for $2 everything, what do you expect? Service is subpar. Not friendly or warm or welcoming at all. 2 star service. My latte was good but they put in so much ice! 4 Star latte, 3 stars for all the ice. I tried the healthy focaccia and I loved the olives! 4 stars. I would be back, of course--what a steal!

4 stars for the baked goods - really buttery alfajores and a not-too-sweet (but too bread-y) dulce de leche donut. Everything is literally $2 - so a plus on price. 1 star for the REALLY AWFUL service. Why would you ever hire someone with such bad attitude to be in a service role? If someone asks a valid question, don't try treating them like they're dumb (i.e. Showing your own ignorance). Also, they should be better trained / educated on the baked goods they sell - some people could be allergic to certain ingredients and die from a mistake of ignorance.

Wow, how many Mattos will I find ? It looks like every other day I bump into another one. Their cafe has a logo sign that looks just like the zero Tarot card , the FOOL card, Matto is Crazy in Italian I guess that's what the owner was told when he came up with the $2 for everything idea. They got your usual list of espresso coffee and then some I rarely see, a 'Red Eye' which is espresso mix with an other coffee like drip and a Cortado which should be boiled milk and espresso and not foamy. They have a decent number of muffins , cakes, cookies that are good for $2 and so was the coffee I had , but I do Starbucks Venti these days so I had to get another coffee after I got to the office because the coffee cups are small. I was impressed with Matto and $2 doesn't mean you get cheap and tasteless.

Why 5 stars? EVERYTHING IS $2!!! EVERYTHING!! ESPRESSO $2 LATTE $2 MACCHIATO $2 AND ITS NOT BAD AT ALL. Here we are paying close to $6 for coffee at starbucks while this place uses a really good machine great coffee and there doing it for much less. The brownie was awesome and was also $2. The girls that work here are super nice and pretty and really try to help the customer in explaining anything if they have questions. They keep the inside very clean and modern. Great value, great staff, great coffee! I wish this was closer to my house. If you are not into coffee they have bottled mint tea and black tea for $2! I will be back this place is the BOMB!

My company's ban on paper cups led me to drink - drink outside coffee that is. Starbucks is a religion to me but the lines can feel like the devil's work. Matto served up a delightful $2 cortado, briskly. Is everything really $2?!!

9/2/2016 -- Convenient cafe nook. WiFi, smiles and custom coffees abound. One star deduction only for a) not using all organic, non-gmo, direct trade [chocolate] ingredients, b) somewhat too-close-for-comfort seating; c) no toilets, and not sure if there are outlets for charging. $2 sounds nice upfront, but watch out as the $ leave your wallet... Sizes of edibles are "European" or may be considered "snack" size, depending on your appetite. 9/2/2016

I have been a loyal customer for over 3 years. Have always paid using the app. Just recently I had to change my cell number & cell phone. I left a large amount of cash on the old app and was never able to transfer it to their app on my new phone. (I signed up using cell number not my email address) Anyway I contacted the company via their email on many occasions in order to get some help, and I have never heard back from them. Obviously lousy customer service and I will now take my business elsewhere.

They have a certificate in the window for being Kosher, but they are NOT *****This Place is Not Kosher.****+ They are 100% vegan.

buyer beware: The app will allow an order for an item the store does not have. When you get to the store the staff will tell you it's out of their hands and they can't give you a refund. The staff will out right tell you you have to harass Customer service to get a refund. This is NOT the way to run a business.

$2 for everything. I got a slice of banana walnut bread, walked out the door for $2 + tax. And it was pretty good.

This cafe recently changed its name, but has been open for 4 years. You've seen the pictures and it's true - everything is $2! There is an identical Espresso Matto further on 46th. They offer the same options :) I was a little hesitant because this cafe costs about half what others in Midtown East will offer. That being said, they do offer a lot. They have espresso machines, frozen hot chocolate, 3 types of iced tea, 4 organic juices, 1 smoothie, hot and iced coffee, and cold brew. In the snack department, they offer nuts, oatmeal, Belgian waffles, burekas, croissants, coffee cake and sweets. There are also a variety of small deli sandwiches. I ordered a frozen hot chocolate with chocolate croissant. Total was $4.36 and I paid with my credit card. There is plenty of nice seating in the A/C. They even warmed up my croissant for me! They use Bristot coffee, and offer small and large for their hot drinks. Both are still only $2. The person in line ahead ordered a delicious iced latte (single) - only $2. On my way out, I ordered an iced tea - I couldn't help myself. The two ladies at the counter were sweet and helpful - had no issue with me taking pictures :) ps: all their dairy products have been approved kosher. They have a refrigerated section with Pelligrino etc -also $2. Will return, for sure!

Making coffee great again! Where else can you get any coffee or pastry for $2 each. This place is great. I had a large iced coffee. You can't find that at other coffee places. I'm going back every day.

it is a scam. big sign outside says $2.50 for everything! i was charged $3.81 ($3.50 plus tax) the guys tells me i needed to order on the app for that price. they put in the smallest print on the bottom that it is $3.50 in the store. not an honest way to run a business. feel very cheated!

Love this little place. I think it's perfect especially for the traffic that goes towards the train. I was in line at Dunkin' Donuts and it was way too long and then I remembered this place was around the corner went in and was taken care of immediately and efficiently. Snagged a nice iced coffee and a pistachio muffin that was so tasty and fresh. Definitely might go to morning spot whenever I pass

This place is such a hidden gem. I work nearby but still two avenues away, so I never noticed this place until a friend who works closer to 2nd ave told me about it. Took a detour on my way to work this morning just to try out the "everything $2" wonder - Yes, this is no joking, no strings attached, great pastries and nice coffee. I was so surprised about the variety they have on pastries. They have everything you can find in Starbucks, plus some special ones such as a pistachio muffin (I know!), also some healthy options like an egg and avocado sandwich. Again can you believe that's just $2? In midtown? Also, bring very picky about coffee, this place definitely shows up more than up to par. I usually go to Gregory's/ blue bottle/Fika for coffee, and Matto does not fall short compared to these other brands. Although, I do want to point out Matto's coffee is more of a bold brew with very low acidity. I usually prefer fruity coffee brews, but Matto's is still balanced enough for me. My favorite stop in midtown! Step away from hectic street and get in this cute coffee shop, Always greeted by smiling friendly staff and skillful barista. The taste buds are just satisfied by those yummy bites to complete it all.

Matto is a great find! Enough said. It's straight forward. No frills. And for the price, the establishment is clean and the quality is great. So for any customer complaints, do us a favor and just go to your nearest McDonald's.

Very delicious pastry and nice coffee. The price is very cheap too. Highly recommend. The only problem is here's too crowded and loud sometimes. But you know, because everyone likes here.

Just know... that's everything is $2.00 at this cafe... it does NOT get better than that lol. Coffee is always on point. I order breakfast from this spot every morning. They always have new pastries and little snacks.

All drink and food items are $2 dollars. I always get their cappuccino and snacks. Their chocolate browning is good. They also have muffins, sandwiches, cake, and much much more goodies. Services and staff are fast and friendly. All bakeries are fresh and usually, some items are sold out by the afternoon. Get a Matto card, you get 2 dollars extra every time you refill 20 dollars.
