"Did you forget your vintage blanket robe or buckhide suede jacket? Don't worry: you can buy both at Maude's, a coffee shop that also happens to have some western clothing for sale. Floor-to-ceiling windows means there’s great light in this spot, which is perfect for sending off some emails at one of the mismatched vintage tables with fellow remote workers. The menu is short and to the point—pour-over drips, lattes, cappuccinos—and everybody who works here probably has strong opinions on oat milk. For food, choose from a selection of locally made pastries, including donuts and muffins, as well as a menu of toasties—try the Trash Toast (EVOO, melted cheddar, tomato, sea salt, and pepper) before checking out the attached vintage clothing store." - Hayden Seder

Great drinks, and came out fast! We ordered sandwiches that were each pretty expensive, waited around 30 minutes for them—but when we received them, we noticed that each of them were pretty flat and didn’t have much food in them at all. I ordered a BLT with a very flat single tomato, and about 2 pieces of bacon for about $12. Just wish they added some more actual food in the food we ordered. Good place otherwise, but please consider making the sandwiches more worth the money. Thanks!

Google
Not for coffee lovers!! Really cute place with plenty of indoor seating and outdoor patio seatings available. Plus with plenty charging spots for indoor seating!! The coffee I got was…sugar syrup…we ordered two vanilla lattes and one had twice as much sugar as other…clearly lack of consistency on part of the Baristas. I think—if you are lookikg for a place specific for coffee like we were (there are better options within Gainesville such as Pascal’s or Cympplify)—but as a package if you are also looking for food options, this has a great selection. Overall, good vibes and atmosphere, not so good coffee. Will come again to try their breakfast menu when Im hungry!!

Google
My favorite cafe in Gainesville during the winter months. Unfortunately, at all other times of the year the owner's decision to minimize A/C costs at the expense of customer comfort immediately disqualifies Maude's from eligibility as a place I would in any way want to patronize or sit at for any longer than 5 minutes. Please...I beg....just turn the thermometer down a hair...sacrifice an extra 20 dollars to the monthly electricity bill...please...I'm begging...so I can sit and read and sip my coffee in comfort...please.

Google
Maude's is my wife's favorite sit-down place for coffee. She loves the European vibe and the fact that they serve a dark roast espresso. The service here has improved over the years. Right next to the Hippodrome. Atmospheric outdoor seating.

There is no way not to absolutely adore this quaint coffee shop. It's located in the Sun Center Easr adjacent to Gainesville's historic Hypodrome Theatre. It's across the street from Starbucks which is nationally known. But keep strolling past that famous place if you want better food, coffee and ambiance. Even the prices are better. I purchased coffee and multiple pastries last night so when I wake up early the next morning I'll be able to sit on my terrace overlooking Maude's and relax knowing I'm lucky to have shopped there. Great food, delightful wait staff and a cozy interior that will make you want to sit and relax.

Google
Best breakfast sandwiches in town (their croissants are killer, I'd buy them by the bag if they'd let me), good coffee, generous portions for the price. A large iced coffee will last you days. The staff are always friendly and seem to enjoy working here. The booths aren't the most comfortable, but they're cozy, and it's never been too loud inside to focus. Nice outside seating, too. I love nothing more than to hang out here on Sunday mornings, get a giant coffee, and write ♥

Google
This is a cute and cozy coffee shop. There are a variety of coffees here to choose from. If you visit Downtown Gainesville, you can surely give this coffee place a try. Outdoor seating is also available.

Google
love the vibe here, the employees are friendly and they many selection for cakes which I love very much. The setting of the tables are also interesting, good place to stay for afternoons with large or small groups or just by yourself🙌🏽

Yelp
It was my first time at Maude's and it is a nice coffee cafe. Outdoor seating when you can bring your dog if you'd like. Indoor booths and tables. I ordered a BLT on a Croissant and a bottled juice. Price was a bit steep for the two ($12) so be aware that I'm assuming, is ambience and convenience. Sandwich was fresh and tasty, but still think it was way overpriced. Other drinks, coffee and such seem pretty typical for prices. They offer interesting names for the food and desserts, which is cute. I was planning on getting a dessert but ran out of time. Harry Belafonte looked good and so did a few others. Check out the menu beforehand. It was not real busy when I was there (Saturday 1-2:30) which was nice. Didn't grab pics, but I will next time. Enjoy!

Yelp
Excellent coffee. The "Dolly Parton" tiramisu is to DIE for....Guinness & espresso are so good together!

Yelp
I just moved in to the area so I ventured off and came across this nice little coffee shop I had coffee it's was super charged not that weak ass shit it really hit the spot a few things caught my eye in the shop the people were so nice and in a great mood I wanted to try the southwest sausage they had in the glass case I'll be back to try the food soon

Caroline B.

Yelp
10/10 coffee here at Maude's Cafe! Also I had a such a good bagel with cream cheese. The ladies who work here are so sweet and super friendly. This is such a cute spot here in downtown Gainesville. such a hidden gem, and I can't believe I just discovered it!! I will be going here much more frequently. The names on the menu are super cute as well. Cool retro vibes and also fun place to study.

Peachy S.

Yelp
Oh Mee Gee the lemon bar was absolutely amazing. I recently found out that I have a gluten and dairy allergy they were so helpful!

Nishant G.

Yelp
Nice place! Looks like it caters to the indie crowd. Came for lunch. Ordered a BLT with sausage added, and a beer. Total came to just under $20. Portions were average. But the flavor and freshness was excellent. I'd like to see what this turned into on Friday evening. Staff friendliness leaves a little to be desired.

Kalvin K.

Yelp
A nice local coffee shop right next to the Hippodrome. I was in the downtown area for a meeting and stopped by for coffee. They were friendly inside and I was able to get my coffee with oat milk no problem. The outdoor seating was nice and the water dispenser worked great.

Myesha S.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in town! I love that Maude's have a outdoor seating area as well as an inside. I enjoy going there to read and grabbing a coffee and a bite. I went last week Saturday and had a great time reading outdoors while enjoying a caramel ice coffee with a turkey bacon and cheese sandwich on rosemary bread, as well as a chocolate chip cookie which was delicious! Maude's carry a variety of lunch and breakfast sandwiches as well as tasty baked goods. It's a great place to read, study, or catch up with friends or a date. I would definitely recommend !

Herman A.

Yelp
Delicious chocolate chip cookie. Very good, fresh, hot breakfast sandwich with creamy eggs and cheese. Dark roast coffee is sour, and very fruity, it doesn't have the notes of chocolate or sweetness of a Starbucks dark roast. Staff is courteous and prompt. Location has a relaxed, very casual atmosphere. Outdoor seating is very good for morning or weekend visits. It's centrally located, which is convenient.

Courtney E.

Yelp
I always enjoy being at Maude's Cafe downtown. I was especially happy to find this morning that they have allowed in person seating again. The drinks are good, the food is good, and the staff are friendly and know what they're doing. There is indoor and outdoor seating. There are board games inside to play. It's centrally located and a great place for a date night--although there are not that many entrees, there are plenty of desserts to share. My only warnings are that 1) prices are high and 2) they never seem to have enough staff to move quickly, so be prepared to wait.

Erich C.

Yelp
Starbucks corporate business model is to find the most popular coffee houses in America, and move in as close to them as possible, as to drive them out of business! They did this with Maude's, AND IT DID NOT WORK! Sometimes I see SB customers over here chilling on the patio(Starbucks is about 40 yards away) That speaks for itself! Maude's has the best homemade desserts named after musicians and celebrities! They have wifi, ample seating inside and out, and sincere staff that simply try to make your food and/or beverage great! The seating outside is the best, but beware of cigarette smoke, and flying birds looking for crumbs. Figure out which direction the wind is blowing, and seat yourself accordingly to avoid the smoke. They have board games to play, as well as t-shirts, and coffee mugs to take home as well, for a small fee! Everybody knows this to be one of the most chill places in Gville to offer hot coffee and great atmosphere! You can check it out yourself, do some homework with friends, or just surf the net. Peace you will find here.

Amna Q.

Yelp
Great study place with a variety of drinks and snacks. They have numerous outlets, so it's great for group studying sessions. The cafe is within walking distance of some very cool places, like the Hippodrome. They take advantage of their location by having plenty of seating outside. The last time I was here, my friends and I ordered their chai lattes and cheese quesadillas. The service was fast and our order was delicious!

Melanie O.

Yelp
What a lovely coffee shop! They have plenty of outside seating! I got a classic maude's iced coffee and hands down one of the best iced coffees I've ever had! The staff was super friendly and support local instead of the Starbucks across the street. There's also a parking lot behind the store with lots of spaces! This may be my new coffee spot!

Theresa L.

Yelp
Maude's is so cute! They have a ton of cool merch for purchase, board games to play with friends, and some of the best hot chocolate I've ever had! It's a short walk from the Hippodrome, making it super convenient. I highly recommend checking them out on a cold night with your besties!

Amanda N.

Yelp
My husband and I met here in 2016! Wonderful coffee shop. We love it!

Susan T.

Yelp
Yummy food and friendly service. Very quiet place to read a book. Not the fastest service but ok. Definitely worth a visit. My Rickshaw sandwich was very tasty. They serve a selection of beers if you are looking for that. Quirky ambience.

Brian C.

Yelp
A charming little place to grab a bite and coffee. The southwestern quiche was quite good. The crust is clearly frozen but was fine.

E K.

Yelp
Waaaaaay overpriced. $8 for an iced coffee that's all ice and meals are also expensive with very small portions.

Kyle S.

Yelp
Had the southwestern rice bowl which has black bean salsa rice with avocado and red onion. It was super good and left me filling full, but not uncomfortably so. It's also great that they have a good amount of outdoor shaded seating.

Chase W.

Yelp
Decided to try something new in the local area and stumbled on this café. I'm giving 2 stars because as soon as I walked into the café the woman working (Brooke) was rather rude. The entire time I was inside looking at the menu trying to review the vegan options she constantly asked if I was ready to order (rudely persistently). She had a very annoyed/ unpleasant look on her face as if I was wasting her time. When I did finally order my food she was very adamant about leaving the lobby and that she would call my name when my order was ready. The food itself was mediocre at best 2/10. For $11.40 I was expecting a large, well stuffed burrito with great flavoring except I got (probably the world's smallest) burrito that was mostly filled with iceberg lettuce (at this point I asked myself, Did I order a salad?). Overall I've never been more disappointed in a café that catered vegan options. Will NOT be returning or recommending to anyone. I can only recommend finding a new barista who is warm, welcoming, and friendly towards all people.

L B.

Yelp
Over priced small portions Slow service Most of the soups are boxes purchased from the grocery store. A cup of it was only 3/4 full. Salad was pathetically skimpy on toppings. Sorry but the only positive was the outdoor seating area.

Lauren C.

Yelp
One of the only coffee shops in gainesville that stays open later by and a great spot to study in. I only got coffee here so i can't vouch for other menu items but their coffee is very good and you have a wide variety of drinks to choose from. They have their selection of coffee syrups(flavors) behind where you stand to order so you can choose which one you want to have in your coffee drink, and the types of drinks offered are on the menu.

Dianna B.

Yelp
Met up with one of my Burly Girl friends up in Gainesville to celebrate her birthday. The original place we wanted to meet had conflicting information so, she drove us over to Maude's, her go to in the area. I was NOT disappointed. We ordered a breakfast sandwich, a garliky cheesy quesidilla and a vegan, gluten free slice of chocolate peanut butter cake that was to die for. The atmosphere of Maude's is very relaxed, very ecclectic and even with a line out the door, the girls behind the register and at the grill do what they do with love, it seems. They aren't hurried or pained to get everything out in a rush, the do what they can as they can. The food was good, the company was better and you can bet, if I'm back in the area, i'll be there.

Janine A.

Yelp
This place is cute and local and has a fantastic outside area. Lattes were perfect temperature and delicious. The egg croissant was decent. They even gave us a little pup cup! We came here because we wanted a place with strict mask usage. They did not disappoint!

Katherine Y.

Yelp
Walked in and was reprimanded for not wearing a mask and told unless I bought one there for $1.25 I was unable to order food. Being in a state where the governor removed the mask mandate, I was taken aback but even more shocked by the workers blatant rudeness for my misunderstanding of their mask rules here. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because maybe she was just having a bad day and everyone deserves a second chance, but if you come here make sure you have a mask on or you will be reprimanded.

Michelle T.

Yelp
Maude's is a small and classic coffee shop in downtown Gainesville. While seating is limited due to its size, it's a great place to rest and catch up with friends. The shop offers many different types of board games (many of them missing pieces and outdated however) and a quiet atmosphere to study. Today I tried the iced Maude's 16oz for 4.05$. When I was ordering, the cashier was noticeably annoyed that I came into the store with a lot of my friends. The beverage itself was basically coffee with milk, cinnamon, honey. It mostly consisted of large chunks of ice. In fact, there was so much ice that I couldn't even put a cap on my drink and I had to drink it without one. 1/3 of the actual liquid inside was coffee the rest was some kind of foam. Should I have instead gone to the Starbucks right across the street? Probably. However, I will put down this experience as a "one time thing" since I do like the overall style of the shop. I plan on coming back and trying some of their other options.

Denisha W.

Yelp
I just saw that they had 3 stars! Not accurate if you don't read any other review mine is the only one that matters. I've been coming here for 9 years maybe more. It's always amazing. They have the best treats. I spent my undergrad years here and in my latter years this is where I go to get my after dinner coffee to sober up. It's the most cozy environment like a library and Hufflepuff common room mashed together. Best coffee and best hot chocolate. They have board games! I mean come on. I played connect 4 last week drunk with total strangers.

Anthony D.

Yelp
Giving Maude's my first yelp review because they deserve it! I hadn't been since the beginning of the year, but it was great to see that their stuff was just as good as ever. The coffee is very decent, they have way more food options than the tiny shop would have you assume, and everybody that works there is always great. Once you get WiFi, it's also a good pick for studying or working or whatever it is you do. It's usually quiet but can also be a bit distracting with downtown noise. Maybe it's the London fog talking (they make the best version of it around) but yea, Maude's gets a confident 5 stars.

Alec K.

Yelp
In a word, wow! I have celiac disease and have to eat gluten free and there usually aren't any option wherever I go. I ordered the gluten free quesadillas and they were DELICIOUS! I will definitely be trying the other gluten free things on the menu eventually.

Brooklyn J.

Yelp
This places coffee is overpriced and tasted old, would rather go across the street to Starbucks. Don't waste your time.

Maria S.

Yelp
This place is super cute, staff is amazing and the food was delicious, will definitely be back when in Gainesville!

Rosie J.

Yelp
The interior and patio are really cute, but the coffee prices seem pretty high in comparison with other places. The hall behind the cafe is also pretty run down and could be made a little nicer. But the coffee and pastries are good quality and the food menu is great! Good veggie options!

Damien S.

Yelp
Holds a lot of nostalgic value for the kid, having sat down to more than his fair share of Friday nights with a box of Trivial Pursuit cards, a BB King, a pot of Earl Grey tea and a cadre of non-drinking friends. We were merely freshmen. More than a decade later and not a lot has changed - albeit the outdoor seating is less cordoned off, and seems to attract lazy smokers who've abandoned the front steps of the Hipp in favor of elevated seating, as well as... well... anybody else. Patrons get shafted because somebody wants to read their book in a waffled aluminum chair. Keep Downtown Weird! Still, it's a staple to the area, and the games are icons of pre-Pokemon Go era fraternization. Plus, that brownie sundae is still on the menu. Dope.

Beth R.

Yelp
I wanted very much to like this place. But the staff were rude and the environment not very welcoming. We had hoped to spend some time here working and have lunch before heading to the airport. No go. Quick coffee and out the door for us.

Hannah H.

Yelp
Came here while visiting for work. Cool spot, quiet for me to work at during the time I was there. I got a coffee and the girl behind the counter kindly made one of the salads as a wrap. Not a huge amount of vegetarian options as I was expecting given the vibezzzz but hey, better than the Starbucks across the street!

Laur R.

Yelp
Maude's is a great local place in downtown Gainesville. If you are hanging out with a group of friends this would be a great place for after drinks coffee and some board games. Or if you are waiting to see a play at the Hippodrome. Years ago this was the best place to take friends visiting you from out of town, but now we also have Hyppo's and Starbucks. Maude's has a bad odor recently that I prefer to hang out at Starbucks these days if I'm alone. They do have outside seating if you want to bring your dog.

Sheetal J.

Yelp
This place is my go-to coffee shop whenever I'm in town in GNV because of the convenience. It has free parking, it is easy to get to, and there is always an outlet available so I can work on homework. I always see friends playing board games here (they have a pretty large collection), and I see students studying too. It's quiet enough to study, but not silent enough that it feels like a library where you can hear a pin drop. I can't really comment on their menu; I had tea once here but it was just the Celestial Seasonings brand which I always buy from Publix. Their cheesecake seems pretty good though - try their vanilla cheesecake! If you are someone who needs substitutes, I believe they also have milk substitutes and sugar free syrups.

Brian K.

Yelp
I travel a lot, and drink a lot of coffee. I prefer to patronize independent shops over the major chains. This place is directly across the street from a Starbucks, so I decided to pop in for a large iced latte. $6.50. I asked the barista how many shots came in that and she said 2. then she double checked with someone in the back. Yup, 2. Additional shots are .25 a piece. Meanwhile, as I pointed out, Starbucks across the street sells a large iced latte for $4.15 and it comes with 3 shots. "But ours is 32 ounces" So what? you think we order a large coffee drink because we like more milk and ice? we order a large to get more coffee. Basically, Maude's is taking a tiny bit of coffee and stretching it to 32 ounces, then charging more than the place DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET. And people wonder why Starbucks is so popular.

Denise W.

Yelp
Got here at 11:40am ordered avocado toast and a bagel w cream cheese. At 12:15 we finally had to leave due to MBA graduation. Why does it take so long to get a simple food order? Not busy at all. Ridiculous

Alyssa Z.

Yelp
I really like the vibe of this place because it's small, cozy, and independent. However, when it comes to the actual coffee, I think the iced coffees are too basic and not that delicious to be at the price at where it is (I think around four dollars?). They have creams, sugars, and cinnamon available to flavor it how you'd like, but then again, almost every other coffee place has this, so it's not too big of a deal. I do like being able to study here though because it's usually pretty quiet. Also, I like the availability of board games so that I can take a break from studying. But, other than that, the coffee itself is pretty mediocre. There are better coffee places in the area with a tastier selection. In fact, I'd recommend Volta over this because it has the same thing, but with better coffee. The only thing they don't have is the board games.

Jayna L.

Yelp
I've been going here for over twenty years. Still the best coffee, still punk rock, still a safe place for eveyone. Amazing coffee, awesome vegan options and no up charge for oatmilk! Also nice outdoor area for when it's not super hot outdid.

Ampm K.

Yelp
Greatest Alfresco venue in all of Downtown Gaines is your "Porch's front" with Coffee

Tammy B.

Yelp
Stopped in on a cold evening and ordered a decaf coffee mocha with added coconut syrup. We really enjoyed sipping coffees on our evening stroll. This looks like a great place to meet up with friends, drink coffee, and play uno or backgammon or any other game from their nice selection. Their dessert selection was limited, however this was a late Saturday evening. There's seating inside, outside patio, and out back in the mall.

Gina B.

Yelp
As hipster as it gets. I come here often to study because they have a pretty quaint seating area inside the cafe. It's a little cramped but I like the cozy (slightly dingy) feel. They have ample outlets for all your charging necessities. I can't really comment on the menu because I've only tried their hot coffee once and their iced sweet tea. And I'm not a huge coffee drinker either so my opinion on the quality of the coffee is discredited. As for the sweet tea, I absolutely love it. It's Earl Grey sweet tea and it's so good. I've actually raved about it several times and I would come here specifically just to get that sweet tea. Judging by the other yelp reviews though, it seems like their menu isn't THAT great for its price. I still gave the cafe 3 stars because I do come here often. I really enjoy their hipster vibe and sweet tea!

Almudena M.

Yelp
I put a one star review because it's required but this place is a piece of shit the workers are so rude and lazy zero stars they truly deserve zero stars it honestly blows my mind how you're getting paid to do a job and you can't even do it with fucking manners the people were so rude and honestly this place shouldn't even existIt's truly deserve zero stars and I will never recommend this place to anyone.

Coty S.

Yelp
If you ever want to get the feeling of what Gainesville is all about (aside from Football), Maude's is definitely the place to spy on the locals. The town is like a min Portland, where people just like me, are still stuck in the 1990's. We have been going to Maude's since the 1990's, in fact. My favorite thing to do is sit on the patio and enjoy the Hippodrome towering over you while being spare-changed by a bum. Being slightly annoyed by the super rich college girl sitting one table over complaining that they closed the only American Apparel store in town, so she has to rack up miles in her Escalade driving to Orlando. It is all quite ironic and oh-so-Gainesville... (aka Portlandia). Sip that overly sweet Chai Latte and stare off into space, as Maude's plays the entire Sonic Youth "Daydream Nation" album for your enjoyment. Ahhhhhhh...some things never change.

Sarah B.

Yelp
A lovely spot ready for some chill time with friends or a date. Great coffee and great service. Love the casual and cozy vibe and game options!

Robert P.

Yelp
I used to like going here, but I've had too many bad experiences with their staff. I consistently get bad attitudes from their grouchy/disgruntled employees. It's a nice venue for playing board games with your friends over some coffee and over-priced desserts, but don't expect a warm and inviting staff. If you want that, go across the street to Starbucks, where I've had nothing but good experiences. I wanted to like this cafe, but their staff have ruined it for me. Good coffee, nice venue, bad service. 2 stars.

Chloe S.

Yelp
I was extremely let down by the coffee at Maudes. A small latte was $6.25 and came out tasting like milk. When I asked for more espresso, they wanted to charge me an additional $2.30 to fix my coffee. The coffee is way over priced and not worth it. The only positive about this place is the unique atmosphere and fun decor, but I will not be returning for coffee.
