What a beautiful store to visit! The details are enchanting everywhere! Their selection of items was very tastefully curated. We went there to check some hats, but the accessories were very captivating as well. They offer great service!

I decided to get my first cowboy hat and a friend brought me to Maufrais. At first I was a little overwhelmed by the variety but I was given a coffee drink when I entered the store and was guided around by a knowledgeable representative. After carefully assessing my options I chose to get a customized Stetson. We were then introduced to Ashtyn who worked with me to shape and style it just for me. Ashtyn was amazing upbeat. It was fascinating to watch her transform my hat. The entire experience was fascinating and I'm thrilled with my hat.

This is the best place to get your custom western/cowboy hat made. The team here his so knowledgeable and friendly. They show you how to find the perfect fit and style for the look you want. Starting with the color, the crown, the folds, everything! You will leave here with the perfect hat. In addition you can dress your hat with all types of accessories from ribbons, feathers, jewelry, etc. All of this is done while you wait, shop or have a coffee, tea or snack. We have to mention Bryce. He was our hatmaker, and he loves hats and is a hat maker extraordinaire. You can really tell he loves what he does and he listens to your ideas and brings them to life. If you are from Austin or visiting and looking for a hat, save your time looking, this is the place.

Absolutely loved my experience here! I had browsed before and enjoyed the visual appeal of the store and finally came back for my own custom hat! Adrienne and José were so helpful in helping me find a hat style that I like, find the right fit, the right color, and then shaping it and customizing it with the add-ons I loved! A great experience and it’s definitely a hat I’m going to LOVE wearing forever!

Went here today with a new hat purchase in mind. We were greeted with a friendly smile (from a younger blonde girl), and we were shown thoroughly around the shop. My teenage daughter knew she wanted a hat but was unsure exactly what. We were shown sizes, styles, colours, and options and were given a whole scope of what was available, including accessories and shapes of the pinch front, After chosen, we were handed over to Clare, who shared the same sincere enthusiastic nature toward providing a custom product without the pushy sales based customer service we're used to. Clare explained the whole process, sought feedback, and made sure my daughter was happy. Clare covered what affect the traditional cowboy brim roll has on the crown of the hat and the effect it has regarding size and shape. Clare showed a genuine love for what she did and made the whole experience a pleasure. There were several other staff members who interacted with us during this process and were friendly, polite, and showed a clear love for just delivering a beautiful product.

My sister and I walked in and looked around. They have a nice shop with a very welcoming atmosphere. I asked Ashley what type of hat would look good on me and she helped me from start to finish. I loved the suggestions she gave and ended up with one sharp looking hat. I definitely recommend this place and I will be back when I am in town again.

A must-do if you are in Austin! I had an amazing time personalizing a beautiful cow boy hat. I highly suggest stoping here and getting yourself the perfect hat! Make sure to brand it too with your name or initials!

I spent a nice winter afternoon exploring the shops on South Congress, and Maufrais was possibly my favorite stop! The shop primarily sells cowboy hats, and what's super cool is that they can customize the hats to fit your head shape, or you can buy a pre-shaped one. They also have a small coffee bar in case you're thirsty from browsing hats. I loved seeing all the gradients of hats on display. The store itself is very aesthetic, and I really appreciated the laid-back vibe. The associates didn't bother me at all while I tried on a bunch of hats and snapped some silly selfies in the mirror. The hats are expensive (the custom hats I saw were around $700+, and the pre-shaped ones were $200+), but it's such a unique shop that I still think it's worth stopping by if you're in Austin or anywhere in Texas!

Visited the Maufrais store in Austin, TX on the morning of 12/28/2024. I really wanted my wife to get a western hat. Approached a staff member (Leann) for assistance. She offered guidance on the hats, was very patient with my wife and helped her find the right hat. She also suggested branding my wife's intials in the hat making it extra special. Very happy with the purchase and the entire experience. A great place to visit for a luxury experience. Hats off to Leann!

I was looking at hats and was contemplating a couple hats. I'm a petite person and most of the adult style hats, while very nice, were too big for my frame. Ashley, while helping out my brother with a hat as well, pointed out some Youth size hats. She could have let me buy a hat that I probably wouldn't have been as pleased with. She instead helped me pick out a hat band and totally sold me on the youth size hat that I ended up getting. PLUS... I will be back!!! What great service!

I just went to cool down with my dog Oliver. The staff was so attentive to me and Oliver's heat exhaustion. I am so grateful to have such kind people in one place. You guys are amazing!

I brought my daughter from another mother here for the BEST experience! We both made custom hats, one for a city girl, one a little more western, both fabulous. It was a fantastic experience, highly recommend. Ashley was skilled, fun, and a great salesperson :)

My company hosted a private shopping event at Maufrais and it could not have gone better. The space was beautiful, the staff was wonderful and helped everyone design a custom hat. 10/10. No notes!

The in-store experience took a frustrating turn when we were handed off to an associate to have the hat shaped. The person who helped with the fit was friendly, but instead of discussing our options for getting the preferred hat (like asking if we were local or when we needed it by), they just upsold us. That's fine, we were looking for a forever hat. But then came the letdown -- they promised to custom fit the hat to our face, style, and preferences, but after several attempts, they couldn't quite get it right. We went back and forth pointing out obvious flaws at least 10 times, and every time the hat came back, it was still off. What made it worse is that this was one of their nicer, higher-end hats, and we were passed off to someone who didn't seem to have the experience for making such significant adjustments to a custom, final-sale item. There was no guidance or encouragement on how to personalize it or elevate the look either. Oh, and we had to leave without a box! Just really disappointed and frustrated and really don't love the way my hat turned out at all. Overall experience was lacking and felt like they were just trying to churn and burn. Would not recommend.

My boyfriend and I went to Maufrais about a month ago and saw the best bolo tie we'd ever seen. We kept thinking about it and I reached out to Maufrais via email to check if they had it. They responded quickly and made the process of buying something from hundreds of miles away and having it shipped out of state to me so easy. Highly recommend their service and their products.

This is my 3rd year as a Texan and I've been wanting a custom-made hat for so long. I came across Maufrais when walking around S. Congress back when I first moved to Austin and was instantly captivated by the boho meets cowboy-chic aesthetic of this boutique. Since I have a larger head the hats that were pre-made didn't quite fit my head comfortably. That's when I was introduced to the concept of getting a hat custom-made, but at the time I wasn't quite ready to take the plunge. Since then, I've been to Maufrais on several occasions just to look around, and each and every time the associates there were so friendly and willing to answer all my questions. They even offered to shape a hat just so I can see what shape I liked, even if I wasn't ready to make a purchase. Fast-forward to today, I once again stepped into Maufrais and I was browsing around, when I met Andrew who was a specialist there. He helped me find a hat that fit my overall style and gave me expert recommendations on the shape that would be most suitable. Furthermore, he helped me pick out the most exquisite accessories to embellish my new hat. Lastly, he branded my name on the inside of my hat to further personalize it. Maufrais makes hat-buying a truly one-of-a-kind experience and I would highly recommend Maufrais and specifically Andrew to help guide you to your next favorite heirloom accessory to bring that extra pizazz to any outfit.

*COVID Update* Masks aren't required around here, and barely anyone wears masks indoors. This store is next to a coffee joint, and it's hard to see the name of the store. Parking in SoCo is mostly street, some with pay stations. There were no public restrooms in here. This is a fun hat store! It's really an experience. Prices are on the high side, but the service is great. The customized part of it is really great. They have quite a selection, and it's fun to try on different styles and colors. Bring your boots to complete your look!

Need a Stetson? Like amazing customer service? Have a huge head (guilty)? Maufrais is the place for you. If you're lucky, Jose will be your guide through the selection and fitting process. He's a total pro and let's you do all the deciding without any forced up sale or other shenanigans. My hat not only looks amazing, it also fits like a glove and I wear it all the time. Don't hesitate to check out Maufrais. You won't be disappointed.

First time getting our own custom hats in Texas and what an experiance. The person who helped us with the Michelle and she was extremely helpful and walked us through the step-by-step process. I love my new hat and can't wait to start rockin it everywhere.

Shaun helped me and made the experience really special! The hat was a gift and the whole process was really "cool" and fun - I feel like I got two gifts - the hat shop experience AND the hat. I plan to highly recommend Maufrais for anyone who wants a custom hat plus the experience. It's kinda like eating out that it is not just the food but your personal free time as well and I work a lot of hours so I appreciate a good time and an elevated experience. Just wanted to compliment her, Shaun, for delivering that :) PS my feather fell out on day 3 and Maufais replaced it. I feel like they stood behind their product. Already eyeing hat #2 for the collection! these hats are so classic yet trendy and make every day a good hair day ;)

We did a private party in the back for my friend who is currently going through chemo. I cannot say enough good things about Shaun and Jose. They tended to our every need, made us feel so comfortable and knowledgeable about the process. Shaun was a dream to set everything up with, so easy, so flexible. She also gave 1:1 attention to our friend going through chemo, kept her mask on so she felt safe. Loved every second of it.

Took my husband here for his birthday, this place is a dream!! He was custom fitted and had styling direction from 2 lovely young women (Shaun and Aundrea I believe). This was a big purchase for us, and we couldn't be happier. We were educated about manufacturing materials, the shaping options and process, as well as upkeep. I noticed pricing info isn't available online so for reference we spent around $900 including tip for every bell and whistle available. Fantastic place for special occasions, again ambiance and staffing is superb! Edit-the shaping process takes about 15-20 minutes and there is an adorable coffee shop within the hat store that has tasty lattes to enjoy while you browse. The location is easy to miss as well! The sign is large but has aged to be the same color as the building.

Good place great friendly staff but I wished I had them stretch my hat to a little larger size as either my head grew or the hat shrunk!

Wow! What an experience we had today at Maufrais! A huge THANK YOU to Bryce who helped out our group...so knowledgeable, professional & fun...we came in for 1 bday hat and thanks to Bryce, we all left with one! This review is 0% based on a purchase! We were browsing and stopped in here just to look! The staff were incredibly friendly and not at all pushy! Their selection of hats was quite impressive! And watching them work was amazing! Very talented people at their craft! The kicker was the attention and interaction they gave to our almost 3 year old! You can just tell that amazing people work here! If we were in the market for a new hat, we 10000% would've got one here! We actually regret not going back! Hopefully on our next trip back to Austin!

Walked in to the store in hopes of buying a hat. Not one employee greeted us or even made eye contact. We browsed the whole store and watched as others came and were greeted with a "Welcome in!" and still no one bothered to ask if we needed help or anything.

My friend and I went in for a coffee and ended up having the BEST shopping experience to date! Bryce and Paul helped us out with our hat purchases! They were helpful in so many ways. Not only did they completely understand our price point they also helped customize, trim and build our perfect Stetson hat too perfection! I have shopped all over the world and the customer service was beyond exceptional! A huge thank you goes out to this team of expert's. Had an amazing time at Maufrais! Unfortunately I forget the name of the awesome guy that helped us, but the knowledge and passion that everyone has here is great. I tend to be a pretty indecisive shopper and I am so grateful for the patience, help, and options I was given. 10/10!! Coming in here and shopping is an experience!!

I know absolutely nothing about hats. But I came in here and was helped step by step into creating my own personal hat that was fit for me. The energy in the shop was great and every employee wanted to help. Will be back to get more feathers soon!
