In this yard on Railton Road, you’ll find a bustling home kitchen that’s been turned into a full-on Jamaican catering set-up. "At Maureen’s you’ll find smoking jerk pans in the front garden, giant pots of fluffy rice and peas and, in the heart of it all, Maureen herself. This Brixton home chef makes restaurant-quality Jamaican food, from expertly smoked jerk chicken, to meltingly marrow-rich curry goat, to golden fried chicken. "Maureen’s represents the platonic ideal of a restaurant to many people in that it is, quite simply, just a home. Everyone is welcome in this Caribbean jerk-smoking backyard in Brixton. Orders are made in the kitchen, carrots are methodically peeled by a bloke at the dining room table watching BBC News behind you and, in warmer weather, patrons pop a squat and eat jagged fried chicken in the garden.
