This cake is one of the best cakes we have ever had. My husband got us a cake from here 7 years ago when we first started dating and still can’t stop talking about how good it was. We got a Chantilly cake for his birthday and it was so soft and the berries were fresh! Also love they were able to still write happy birthday on a separate little cookie for him. He was so excited to have a cake from Maurice’s!

Maurice's is one of my favorite sources of pastries in the area. They even offer a no sugar added king cake! My favorite is the French king cake.

I finally had a king cake shipped out after visiting in January. As a fairly experienced baker and pastry chef, I was always very hesitant that a mail delivery product could compete with fresh baked king cakes I make each year. A friend has often ordered from another famous bakery and I was always disappointed in the quality. The first thing that caught my attention with this one is the mouth-watering smell that immediately hit me m as soon as the box opened. Despite traveling from Louisiana to rural California, I had it in my kitchen less than 14 hrs after it left the bakery. The sweet, fluffy dough is a somewhere between best of a sweet, brioche meets croissant with the slightest hint of possibly nutmeg and cardamom. We chose the cream cheese filling which was delicious. We really want to try apple and lemon next! My personal belief is that frosting and sugar are only to hide poorly made baked goods when working with pastry dough. This item 100% stands on its own. The dough is definitely one of my favorites. That being said, the frosting fans in my house felt it was the perfect sweetness to highlight the flavors in the dough. I will be ordering from here again for sure. Thanks for sending Carnival to the middle of nowhere! I will remember you in the future!

I had a coworker who said this place makes the best king cake. Obviously that's out of season...but I came here as it's on my to go list and I was in the area for an exam. I DO NOT like driving to new Orleans which is why It took a year + to finally try it I was not let down everything here was delicious prob the best pastries I've ever had. The cheesecake praline or whatever blew my mind prob better than Misakis fried cheesecake and half the price!! The swan was also crazy good and elegant looking almost a shame to eat it... especially with the creme hidden inside Now the vanilla eclair was okay....I wanted something basic as a control....just in case For ppl interested in king cakes I asked about these. They said u can get them anytime by custom order or wait

Awful waste of money and disappointment. My husband stopped by there after work Friday the 10th 2023. We had guest coming for dinner. The pastries he purchased Fruit Tarts, CreamPuff, Eclair, and French King Cake were not fresh at all. You could hammer a nail with the King Cake. They were very stale, with the cream hard and cracked. The whole lot was inedible and we were afraid to eat it due to cream causing food poisoning. Fruit tart had mold on it. It was very disappointing and costly to us because of the amount we purchased. Nothing was fresh and could be eaten certainly not to guest. King Cake so hard doesn’t even crumble when i beat it on it’s side couldn’t post that video.

I am crazy about Maurice's pastries. I am off of all sugar currently so I can't go get anything there. I am looking forward to being able to do that again sometime soon. Anything I've ever gotten there is the best. I am always greeted with courtesy and enjoy seeing their case full of pastries and there huge kitchen. It's a small and cozy place to enjoy coffee and a pastry or piece of cake.

Walked in to a nice display of French pastries. Wanted to see if we could order drinks but they only had coffee in the carafe and an out of order Coke vending machine. We wanted to sit in and eat our pastries because we didn't think they'd hold up in the heat in the car. Got a couple of Napoleon's, an éclair, a fruit tart and a strawberry shortcake. All was delicious and the fruit tasted so fresh. The facility is really set up for production and they must cater to businesses and special orders. Would definitely visit again.

I love Maurice's. They have the best mini fruit tarts and cakes! Scrumptious and divine!

A friend of mine had a Pontilly king cake for her birthday and I was obsessed! It was a chantilly king cake with this delicious whipped icing in the middle and strawberries! Chef kiss! So, for my birthday I said I wanted to get one as well but when I went online I saw they had different flavors so I ended up trying "general foster" which is a banana foster king cake. I called and ask if they could change the toppings to saints colors because I was having a watch party and they said they could. Everything was really simple to order and pick up. The cake was a HIT! Everyone at my party has been asking me where I got the cake and saying they want to get one for their next event. I'll definitely be back

Got a cake for my grandmas 82nd birthday. They clearly tried to put a smaller cake on top of a larger cake and hide it with icing. However this caused the cake to fall with the slightest movement. Really disappointing

I ordered a 6" cake and was really disappointed by the lack of actual cake in the order. I was disappointed and discussed this with someone in the bakery and they explained that they only cook one cake round and then cut it in half to make a cake, and that this is their normal work product. I gave it 2 instead of 1 star because she said per order you can request more cake for no extra charge. The actual taste and flavor was fine. not bad but nothing special. Basically spent $50 on 1 cake layer and 4 or so inches of icing. I was just disappointed (which I voiced in email/phone conversation) and they explained this is how they operate. Not what I was expecting.

Maurice's is the best French Pastry bakery in the City. I know because I worked at a Deli that was in Jax Brewery and the Deli sold Maurice's pasteries for at least 10 years.

I had been coming here for years. I normally either picked up some goodies or ordered a birthday cake. Today I went to order a cake for my son's graduation about 7 weeks away. I was told that they are down to one decorator and because of Easter she may NOT want to do it. Easter is this Sunday. I don't need my son's cake until MAY. I was told to come back tomorrow and TALK to a manager??? This is so bizarre and sadly I won't be back. Not sure what changed but they've lost my business. The cake I needed was a round cake with blue icing and white clouds. Not complicated!! I'm sad because I really enjoyed coming here and was always treated so nicely.

Holy crapola y'all! I went into Maurice's on Hessmer for the first time since moving their locations. I had no idea what I was going for and I left with the banana's foster king cake per recommendation from the lovely lady working the counter. I drove safely home with it. Ate dinner. Then we cut it open. Took a bite....and almost cried. Haha it was heavenly! I had no idea it was going to be as delicious as that was! Even my husband who's not a huge fan of sweets was like WHAT IS THAT! Why is that so good! If you love banana pudding like we do, you'll be sure to love that king cake! GO GET IT!

Super quick review: I decided to give this place a try on my way out the mall. I purchased a single fruit tart. The tart was pretty good--an 8/10. The crust was light and buttery; the cream was lightly sweetened with a super mild vanilla flavor; and the fruit were okay. I prefer a slightly richer tart; however, it was still pretty solid if you enjoy tarts. There was a wide array of desserts. They all appeared fresh. Customer service was fine. Give them a try! Update: had to bump them up to a 4.5/5. The pecan tart is SO good! It's the perfect mini pecan pie. It's sweet, crunchy, and has an overall rich flavor. If you've ever had the delicious pecan pie from Palace Cafe, you'll get a hint of that!

The cakes are always moist and beautifully decorated. They never disappoint. Great service.

Purchased pumpkin pecan kugel/cake. The consistency was not like cake at all. It looked like it was not cooked almost like a pudding. Like having pumpkin filling with out the crust only brown/grey in color. So embattled I bought this to take to someone for Thanksgiving dessert. First n last time going there!

Amazing!!! My wife and I ordered a King Cake from Maurice (through an app) and it was incredible!!! It arrived overnight and it was deconstructed and we had so much fun decorating it. The best part was that it was so damn good!!! Fresh and moist and delicious!!! Highly recommend this bakery for your baking desires. We will be ordering more items soon.

I ordered a king cake to be delivered. It arrived super fast . It was packed perfectly. It was so fresh It came with authentic Mardi Gras flair and a baby. Too bad no parades this year in New Orleans. But I had my own festivities thanks to Maurice French pastries. I highly recommend their king cake superb. I dug into it immediately. Won't last until Fat Tuesday.

Pastries purchased Friday Feb 10th 2023 after lunch. My husband stopped in on his way home from work early afternoon. He bought an assortment because variety and amount very low. He bought a French Kingcake some creme puffs and fruit tarts apple tart. Everything was dated, not fresh at all and hard as a brick. The cream filled pasteries were not creamy at all the cream was stiff and cracked unsafe to eat . We ended up throwing everything out because we feared food poisoning from the spoiled cream deserts. There was mold on the cream of one fruit tart. It was a costly ruined desert which we could not serve to guest. Very poor quality, stale, and be ashamed Maurice's we were so disappointed. The sad thing was none of what we purchased was edible. DJ Darby

Maurice,s Ponchatoula King Cake is my favorite King Cake. My family will quickly devour this cake. One thing I noticed is that when they bake the bread to a dark golden brown, the bread is too dry. Thus. It's difficult to cut through and eat. This also goes for their King Cake. The bread is way too dry when it's baked to a dark golden brown stage. The light brown stage lends itself to a moister bread.

This isn't the best king I've ever had. Opening with a terrible pun may be getting old, but in my opinion it isn't as bad as this king cake was. The history of king cake centers around Mardi Gras and the catholic epiphany; this version at Maurice's is the Louisiana version and comes with sugar coating in green, gold, and purple (representing faith, power, and justice). Its shape hints at the shape of a crown. Apparently, this traditional style dates back to the 1950s in New Orleans. The idea was that there's a baby baked in (in this case supplied not baked) and whoever finds it in their piece is king for a day, gets a prize, and/or has to host the celebration the following year. The origin of things baked into cakes is kind of interesting and dates back to France and Spain. Anyway, I'm by no means an expert on king cakes, but, when compared to other bakery and pastries (the most obvious choice would be twisted dough pastries) I think I could compare this; overall, I was disappointed as the cake was dry and not as flavorful as I was expecting. Sweet overload is what to expect. One of the most disappointing things was the icing; I am not sure if it's supposed to be cream cheese-based but I could detect no hint of cream cheese in the supplied icing. It was overly sweet and forgettable-- the addition of cream cheese could have balanced the flavors. The ingredients list and type of pastry drew instant comparisons to cinnamon rolls, and, if it is that taste you are after, you'd be better served by putting a plastic baby in a cinnabon roll. Honestly, the most interesting things about this king cake were the way it looked, the novelty of icing it+adorning it, and the history of hidden objects in bakery.

To add to my previous review - we ordered a chocolate Napoleon cake for a birthday. When we went to pick it up at the requested time on Saturday, something had "happened" to the cake and we were told they had to remake it and to come back later. That was pretty inconvenient since none of us live in Metairie and obviously expected to pick up the cake at that time. However, we didn't have a choice and needed the cake for the birthday party. The cake was a bit dry, so we will definitely not order that again.

Maurices manufactures their cakes like a big factory. Yep I said manufacture. If you've ever gone to the bakery, you will see that their cakes are produced like an enormous McKenzie's. I'm not impressed. They are extremely, and I mean extremely overpriced.

This spot will forever hold a star in my heart for the Banana Foster King Cake. Period!!! This is of course a Bakery so there were many things there , however, it was the KINGCAKE for me. I ordered the small King cake and it was fulfilling. Listen I am not the biggest king cake eater but omfg, ya'll I love their king cake so much that I was eating this king cake for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am so happy I was able to indulge in Mardi Gras during Covid by eating Mardi Gras King Cake. The service was not and fast and polite. I suggest calling though because this bakery gets crowded sooo fast. There are other king cake flavors also it's just I really loved that one! So definitely call ahead to make sure your order gets done fresh! Parking is cramped up as well so do not be surprised if there isn't any parking available near the bakery.

This place seemed like the catering is the main aim, so I'm reviewing just the bakery store as a place to eat and enjoy. The first few things that shows this is limited hours of operation on weekends and evenings and the size of the 'dining' area compared to the kitchen. Most of the floor is the kitchen, so it's pretty obvious what the main business is. Besides that, I didn't see much of 'special' bakery item which a walk-in customers can purchase and eat. Another thing I noticed is that items offered are not just limited to French bakery, meaning not just specialized in it. Chez Pierre seemed more French and that wasn't so French... However, we saw a wedding planner with the cake sampling next table, so this may be THE place to order special cakes. AND the items we purchased were pretty good.

Came here to get a king cake for my class. It's a little pricy but I'll pay that price for this cake. It isn't the traditional king cake but it's so good and really pretty. The small fed my entire class of 12. I come here at least once a year for their king cake and It never disappoints!

Ordered a king cake from here on gold belly to be shipped to California. The king cake was the best one I've ever had! Having lived in Louisiana four years, I've had my share of king cakes. I always liked getting them because of the fun associated with them and Mardi Gras, but was never actually a huge fan of the cake itself. But this king cake changed that for me. I cannot get enough of it! It was nice and fluffy and had so much cream cheese filling! I wish I hadn't shared it so I could've had more for myself. Definitely will be getting this again next year if I can't be in Louisiana eating it in person!

Very disappointed in my visit today. I love the almond croissant usually. However today it was very hard not as moist as usual.

I wanted macaroons and they did not disappoint. This is a hole-in-the-wall bakery on a side street but because they are an authentic French patisserie they are going to stay in business.

Today I experience my first Ponchatoula King Cake from a Maurice French Pastries Bakery. The king is filled with fresh strawberries and whipped cream mixed with the cinnamon bread. It's a great dessert, very refreshing and not too sweet. I will be adding Maurice to my yearly King Cake tradition.

This is a cute little pastry shop that sells donuts, cakes, turnovers, cookies, danishes, croissants, muffins, tarts, eclairs and scones. The $1.45 twisted glazed donut I had was light and delicious. There is seating inside to enjoy your treat. They have a parking lot at the bakery. I've sampled many tasty tasty pastries from Maurice's over the years. This time I stopped in for a French style king cake and then was tempted by a king cake donut and Russian cake slice (for my parents). The French king cake was flaky and the almond paste was rich. Although I was disappointed that my apparently porcelain lady (not baby) was plastic. The donut was a donut, a novelty that I enjoyed gluttonously. My Mom said the Russian cake slice was so rich and boozy that she and my Dad split it and still ate it over two meals. Service is quick and they have a wide variety of items. I had to limit myself to just 3, but man did I want that Pontchatoula strawberry king cake...which isn't a king cake by my definition but it's really delicious nonetheless.

I used to come here when I lived in the Metairie, don't get a chance to come here much anymore but everything they make is great, I've tried most everything. Around Mardi Gras they have a French king cake that I love, it's light and flaky and delicately flavored, not too heavy. Love this place hope they have many more years here.

I ordered a King Cake through Goldbelly from Maurice's for my birthday that fell on Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday. The cake remained wrapped up in my air conditioned kitchen for 3 days and when I opened it there was mold spots all over the top. I asked Goldbelly for a replacement or a refund but they refused my request. They would not even give me a discount towards a new purchase. So I had to throw my $55 King Cake in the trash. Expensive lesson learned. I gave 2 stars because the cake and the decoration kit looked like it would have been nice.

"Underwhelming." $75 of pastries were included in our sampling. Here's the breakdown: Pecan pie tart--nothing special. Lance's pies do better. Dark chocolate layer cake with dark chocolate frosting--good, rich, you definitely need milk, Cream puff--tasteless for the most part, only somewhat eggy, Almond and raspberry tart--one of the best items on our sampler! Glazed fruit tart--cream texture was odd, not overly flavorful, just pretty, Cheesecake--Jello instant, really disappointing if you expected homemade, Canolli--stale, soured (sour cream or old?), isn't it supposed to be ricotta? Macarons--one of the better items and LOTS of flavors, Strawberry shortcake--winner, winner!! Very good and flavorful; nice portion size. Iced cookies--not reviewed, we were just too full. Our initial clerk was very nice and helpful. The lady who checked us out charged for too many items on one ticket and left an ordered item out in the other. We caught one overcharge but did not discover the second one until home. Dang! We will not return to Maurice's not-so-French Pastries, reason: wasted calories.

Received a 24 puff Croquembouche cake as a Christmas gift. The bakery delivered it to my home in Metairie, LA on Christmas Eve. While visually beautiful, it was hard as a rock. It appeared to be frozen. After sitting out for 24 hours it was still rather hard. Cream puffs were supposed to be filled with a variety of cream flavors but only flavor was vanilla. The puff pastry lacked flakiness and had that "been in the freezer too long" taste. Very disappointed.

My department ordered me their chantilly cream cake with fresh berries for my dissertation and oh my goodness was it the most amazing cake I've ever had... And HUGE! Layers of moist cake with mascarpone cream, topped with blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries, and had the most DECADENT whipped cream all around the edges then coated in shaved almonds... My goodness I was in heaven! Best cake I've had in New Orleans this far!

Me oh my, this spot is my go to for their famous pontchatoula king cake! Everyone always loves it at any party I bring it to. The owner is a Frenchmen himself who anyone can hear once you step inside this little bakery. You can smell chocolate icing breakfast pastries and coffee all going on at once that makes you want to pick out a bunch of items and try!

Got the almond tart without the fruit added. Just what I wanted. The crust was lite and flaky. The almond cream was creamy with a lot of almond flavor. Every time I try something new here it is better than the last thing I try. Best Bakery in the city and surrounding area including the north shore
