"Don’t be surprised to see a line running out the door at Mavericks, which is tucked into a Roseville strip mall. The roast beef is cooked a little on the rare side, making for an especially tender bite. Add horseradish to the au jus for extra kick, or dress these sandwiches with spiced mustards and mayos at the condiment bar." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

The Pioneer Press reports that new owner Tim Hughes will work closely with former owner Bret Hazlet to ensure that the recipes are the same and the prices continue to be affordable with Maverick’s reopens April 9. The only changes to Maverick’s will be a light remodel to the interior and maybe a few condiment additions." - Joy Summers

I’m from out of town. Stopped in for a to go order, first time here. Service was friendly. Great choices of sauces (and the bottles were clean, if you know you know) and to go condiments. We ordered the Carolina Pork and Open Faced Roast Beef both were very flavorful and when back this way will stop in again.

The small shop has a nice vibe with memorabilia pictures on the wall. It's pretty cramped at the entrance which made ordering coming in a little difficult. The menu prices are decent but everything I saw was a la carte pricing. The food was great. I went for the signature dish but got the roast beef more brown than pink. I would definitely come back.

Google
It was solid. While the food didn't knock your socks off, it was good. The roast beef sandwich was tasty and the fish and fries were freshly made to order. The Mac and Cheese was good. They provided a variety of sauces. The tartar sauce and chipotle mayo were delicious. If I'm in the area I would stop again.

Google
Great roast beef, Sliced fresh. They put my fries in the fryer when I ordered them, and have a great selection of sauces and other condiments you can put on yourself. 10/10!

Google
Very unassuming storefront in an old strip mall, but DAYUM. Sooooo delicious! Great options, definitely try the roast beef and the potato cakes.

Google
Ordered Door Dash (they’re finally on there) for lunch delivery. Caribbean Jerk Biscuit tossed in a tangy “house made” jerk sauce, crispy onions, on a butter toasted bun. Good spice flavor, brisket was smoked perfectly had the right moisture, and the potato cakes had a great crunch. It’s quality food and you can tell they love what they do. Definitely recommend. Follow me for more true reviews.

Google
Wow, not disappointed one bit with this choice for lunch! Roast beef was perfection, the bun and the beef were everything you could want. Lots of sauce choices and condiments- which makes the simplicity of the sandwich a blank canvas for anyone’s taste. Can’t wait to come back again and again to try the whole menu!

Google
Might be my new favorite restaurant. Roast beef was perfect, the bun was toasted and wonderful. The fries are like a way way better version of McDonald's fries. Sauce variety was good. Got a chocolate malt, too, that was a lot of malt. It was thick and a little different. I liked it. My wife got the Carolina pulled pork (pictured) and loved it. Overall really good food

Yelp
I absolutely love coming here! I usually order the kids' meal with roast beef, which comes with their crispy fries and a fountain drink--a perfect meal that hits the spot every time. The staff here are amazing, and I can't say enough good things about them. Ashley, the superstar who takes everyone's order, is incredibly efficient and friendly. She's like a superwoman, juggling multiple tasks seamlessly--from taking orders and delivering food to replenishing sides and cleaning tables. The guys behind the counter are equally hardworking and kind. I truly appreciate their dedication to making sure customers leave satisfied. As for my roast beef, I load it up with everything--pickles, Maverick BBQ sauce, and a generous helping of jalapeños. Delicious! It does get busy during lunch hours, and there's often a line, but trust me, it's totally worth it. Highly recommend this place for a great meal and excellent service!

Yelp
Randomly found out this place wasn't far from our new house. It's like a sit-down Arby's but better, and they even have cheese sauce! After reading sooo many good reviews online I was surprised it was so quiet on a Tuesday night, but wasn't mad about it. The lady who rang us up was so patient and helpful to first-timers and that feels hard to find these days! It was a very casual place, no need to dress up. I didn't care much for the onion rings but my sandwich and cheese sauce was great- I'll try the fries next time I'm in! Overall, a little spendier than I'd like ($30 for 2 sandwiches, cheese sauce, and 1 onion rings) but we liked the experience and said we would come back / bring people back!

Crystal B.

Yelp
Located in a strip mall, this location is not to be missed. If short on time don't worry as the service is so fast they had our food out prior to getting our soda from the fountain machine. This is an order at the front and sit down location and they bring your food out to you. The meat is always cooked to perfection and that cheese sauce is to die for. They have multiple sides to choose from and I always go with the cheese curds or onions rings and both are delicious and come in large portions. Have yet to try the shakes as I believe those are new but if they are like any of the items on the menu I'm sure they are not to be missed either. They do have an area that have multiple sauces to try on your sandwich which is handy if you are not sure which one to pick you can try them all.

Yelp
Awesome service Excellent food, Clean Professional! If you want to do a take out for a party PERFECTO! Had the experience many times in the last 3 years! ALWAYS Great Service and GREAT PRODUCT!

Joe D.

Yelp
Ordered via DoorDash (they're finally available ) delivery for lunch. Customer Service did a great job with presentation. Caribbean Jerk Brisket had a great tangy "house made" jerk sauce, crispy onion strings, on a butter toasted bun. Potato Cakes had a perfect crunch to them. They have Cubans, French Dips, Reubens, and more. Check them out. Highly recommended.

Nicole G.

Yelp
First time here and I will say I left with a full tummy. Yummy spot for lunch. First time trying a Cuban... tasty. The bread was super soft and the size was enough for two meals (thankful my friend and I shared). The horseradish sauce was fantastic... I wish I could have gotten a tub of that to go home with. Coleslaw reminded me of my Mother's homemade recipe so I absolutely loved it. Mashed potatoes were not my favorite, but I'm also not big into mashed potatoes... my friend loved them tho. Service was good. You order at the counter. Staff were quiet but respectful and nice. Cafeteria style like. Seat yourself dining experience. Restaurant is located in a strip mall. I'll come back sometime to try the roast beef sandwich. Also, Maverick's has some of the best pickles I've ever ate... I'll take a tub of those to go as well.

David P.

Yelp
When you want freshly sliced homemade beef or brisket this is your place. I've been coming here for a long time and I've never left disappointed or hungry. The sauces are made in house too and taste great with their sandwiches:). I love the staff and the food.

Ted R.

Yelp
Maverick's Roast Beef just gets better and better. It's fantastic to find a place that improves and innovates, yet the quality of what you have known previously never degrades. I reviewed this restaurant a year ago, and I just can't say enough great things about it. Let's start with the Roast Beef. It's always freshly cut, juicy, and tasty. If you like it particularly rare (like me), let then know and they will cut from a rare section of the beef. I think my photo illustrates that. The French Fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. As always, they have a condiment bar where you can add a variety of items from pickles, to onion, horseradish, etc. My wife is more apt to get something other than roast beef and she most recently enjoyed the turkey sandwich with avocado. Like most things at Mavericks, it was huge and she took half of it home. The staff is friendly and the food is great. I hope this restaurant is here for longer than I am. I don't want to experience the loss!

LOGAN O.

Yelp
Second time back. We make it a "must go" when we are in town. Love the food there. Wish i had more time in town to sample more of their options.

J.C. L.

Yelp
Time honored, always good food. They've expanded the menu since last time I was here, I believe. ...but the roast beef is still the go-to!

Jason S.

Yelp
Been meaning to write a review of this place for a long, long time. I have no idea how fast food places like Arby's survive, especially in place like Roseville/St Paul that have local restaurants like Mavericks. If you want roast beef there is no other place you should go to in the area. I've had several things off the menu including the roast beef sandwich and everything has always been excellent. Today I ordered the mushroom and Swiss Philly Steak and fiancé got the fish sandwich on a whim. Both were delicious. We especially like the condiment and sauces bar so you can find the mix and match of pickles, peppers and sauces to meet your needs. They have shakes too which we have never gotten but saw someone else order and they looked good. Ambiance is no frills but plenty of space for dining in. Workers have always been polite and professional with a lot of the same faces as opposed to fast food places these days.

John R.

Yelp
Good sandwiches Good service Nice condiment bar with some unexpected choices It's not fancy but you will get fed!

September H.

Yelp
This place is a little secret that I did not know about. I did not expect for my $20 to get this type of meal. why didn't know about this place? I don't know, Roseville have the best restaurants. The fish sandwich, was so fresh and they serve piping hot when you eat in the mac & cheese, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and I love some mac & cheese. I eat it at least two times a week, but this is the best mac & cheese. I have eaten. I don't know what it is, but the cheese is so creamy I was in mac & cheese heaven, and of condiments I will recommend this place to anyone actually I recommended it to my daughter yesterday. Wonderful food , and great portions for the price wow, I wish I had discovered this place earlier

Genesis M.

Yelp
Seriously can't believe I've missed this place with the many times I've driven down this street. I have to say if you are trying to figure out what you'll have for lunch/ dinner just come here. I think it's great for kids as well since they have a kids menu and portions are good ! I had The Big Deal which was really really tasty and they have a section where you can get any sort of extra sides so pickled jalapeños is what I got ! There is tons to choose and also an endless amount of sauces. Very happy to see Tapatío was featured as it's the hot sauce I grew up with. My partner had the mushroom and Swiss and man was that tasty as well. The kids meals were great as one had a pulled pork and the other a blt and look sometimes when you order a blt it can be pretty small and portions tend to be more lettuce than back in but hear it was just right. Kids loved the meal! Staff was fantastic and did a great job at recommending stuff for us and also the place is pretty spacious. You can't really tell from the outside but inside it has plenty of seating. There is also a bathroom located all the way in far left. The place is decorated on theme and very charming. Great to have this place in the neighborhood and would highly recommend anyone to try this place. I will be coming to make my way around the menu so I'm looking forward to that

Hallie O.

Yelp
Food was sooooo good. I got the classic philli cheese steak and fries. My friend got cheese curds. They have many different sauces to choose from. Service was good. Prices seemed fair. I will be back for sure!

Jade W.

Yelp
Firstly, the staff are super amazing and nice! I ordered to-go, and they offered to package the sandwich components separate so nothing would be soggy! Secondly, the whisky brisket sandwich was good, even after waiting an hour to be eaten! I did think it was a bit pricy, at $13, but there's also nothing to compare it to locally. Thirdly, I did order to-go, but from what I could see, the dining area was very clean and tidy. I would certainly eat here in-person sometime.

Tammy J.

Yelp
Best open faced sandwich I have ever had we loved everything here ! We ate out all weekend and discovered a few places. This place did not disappoint !! I recommend it highly!!

Steve T.

Yelp
Mmmmmmmmmm. This place is goooood! This roast beef is legit. I mean, you order your sandwich and then the slices are cut and then placed on a toasted bun. The fries? They are like Mickey D fries from back in the day. The skinny ones with just the right amount of salt. Then you have the condiment bar. Different BBQ sauces to ghiradelli peppers, horse radish, pickles. Seriously. It's kick ass. I'm partial to the Carolina bbq mustard style because I like that tang. They serve beer, soda, boxed salads. Like others have said, the pulled pork? It's ok. Sounds like I need to break down and try the brisket though. Another cool thing? Gift cards.

Debi K.

Yelp
Wow!!! My roast beef sandwich with Au ju was incredible! The beef was medium rare to rare and so tender, it melted in my mouth. I could eat this sandwich every day! Wasn't able to enjoy the malted shakes ordered because Grub Hub driver never delivered them. Hope he enjoyed them. I will definitely eat at Mavericks every time and every day when in Minnesota!!! Craving the sandwich now!! Too bad it's three days away

Molly A.

Yelp
Love the roast beef here! Had the roast beef sandwich (regular), onion rings (they kindly let me order just a half-size order, which was just right), and a chocolate shake. Was such a tasty treat lunch! Onion rings were perfectly crispy and not soggy. Chocolate shake was just as tasty as a chocolate shake should be with no issues there. Only thoughts I have is the bun of the sandwich - it's really just fine and high quality but takes away from the taste of the roast beef, so I just ate the beef sans bun. I love their condiment bar - am a sucker for anything horseradish cream sauce, and with their BBQ sauce? Heaven! Does their BBQ seem like a bit of an Arby's knock-off? Perhaps. Is the roast beef and sauces and rings, and shake sooo much better and higher quality than Arby's? Hands-down 100%. I did go one other time and got the beef and cheddar, and was take-out - wasn't quite as tasty - but this trip more than made up for it. Will def be back.

Steve S.

Yelp
Great roast beef sandwich. Cole slaw perfect. Will deff go back. Even during lunch rush moves quickly. Worth the wait if any.

Brooke W.

Yelp
This place was amazing! We got a Roast beef regular size, The Nasty Philly cheese steak, and some onion rings. The meat was very good quality, the onion rings fresh, the cheese melted just perfectly! The staff was very kind and friendly as well. I will definitely be back.

John C.

Yelp
I'm all about supporting the local joints, but Maverick's didn't deliver this time. 2.5 stairs imo. The onion rings were great and they have a slew of sauces and fixins to choose from, but that's the highlight. The cheese had the unmistakable taste of nacho cheese... I don't know what that was about, but it was there. The roast beef was under seasoned which was a huge bummer. Honestly I expected more from a $10.50 sandwich. I'll be back and I hope that some of their other menu items deliver the promise of a hole in the wall roast beef joint.

Joe C.

Yelp
Tasty local alternative to Arby's. Better quality, more options, but at a higher price.

Janice J.

Yelp
The service was fine and the ambiance was typical sit down / fast food. I found the food to be very middle of the road. I ordered a roast beef sandwich and mashed potatoes with gravy. The beef was pretty tasteless although there were a lot of toppings and sauces to add. The mashed potatoes were likely instant and the gravy was from sort of mix. It's okay, but, not great.

JT W.

Yelp
Holy smokes this was a great stumble upon restaurant! Amazing sandwiches. It made a big appetite 17 yrs old day with the sandwich called the Big Nasty.

John M.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches, the buns are fresh, portions adequate. I with the containers for sauces were bigger:)

Lori G.

Yelp
Easy to order on line and pick up. A healthy portion of pulled pork sandwich. I added the coleslaw which went well

Michelle R.

Yelp
Ordered the open face turkey sandwich, which included mashed potatoes and gravy. It was horrible and a waste of money. The turkey was dry, stringy and tasteless. Mashed potatoes were lumpy. Hopefully the gravy came from a jar. It was so bad...salty, gelatinous and obviously preservative laden...that any chef making a gravy like this from scratch should be fired.

Lauri L.

Yelp
Consistently good! The guys who work here are always friendly and helpful. Fresh roasted and sliced meats. Portions are big - be prepared for leftovers. Lots of extra sides to choose from (pickles, onions, sauces, etc. ).

John R.

Yelp
The best roast beef sandwich I've ever had! With so many other things to try on the menu I'm going to need to make the drive occasionally to go to my new favorite place. The place is a sandwich shop with a walk-up counter and many sides and free extras. It's clean, not fancy and dated and it's not a place for a first date. The service is good and fast and the order was correct. Excellent onion rings too!

William P.

Yelp
The best roast beef sandwich period. I prefer the french dip. If you crave a roast beef sandwich, this is the place for you. Near the intersection of Larpenter and Lexington.

Misha Q.

Yelp
We love stopping in anytime we go to the zoo. The food is incredible and the service is fast. If you haven't stopped by you are missing out! The pork is my favorite!

Luke G.

Yelp
I seriously mean this as a compliment; think Arby's Roast Beef sandwich but a million times better. That's coming from someone who can't stand Arby's. This is a gourmet version. The beef is actually roasted, and the buns are actually toasted. However, I thought the pulled pork and brisket were better than the roast beef. The cheese curds were very good. They had some sort of chive or green onion mixed inside the curd that added another element of enjoyment. Not the standard cheese curd you'd find at the fair.

Adam K.

Yelp
After reading reviews, this looked like a much better version of Arby's. We gave it a try on a Sunday afternoon, and it was good, but not much better than Arby's. The roast beef sandwiches were large, but were barely warm, and the buns were very dry. There was a great selection of delicious sauces you can choose from at the sauce station, all of which were great. We got the family pack with came with 4 sides. The Cole slaw was average, the fries were average but good to dip in the sauces. The beans were really flavorful, finished them off quick. But the mashed potatoes came with gravy that was so dark, and tasted super burnt. We couldn't finish them. All in all, it was ok, but not worth the prices they want. We might try it again for some of the other specialty sandwiches.

Muna A.

Yelp
This place is seriously 10/10 the fbeesteaks the milkshakes the service they even asked me how I liked my food IT WAS AMAZINGGGGG !!!! PLEASE COME HERE !

Emily K.

Yelp
Quick delivery and my order was correct but... So unbelievably average. The Philly was fine but the French dip was so disappointing. It was tiny, it's like they used the smallest baguette they could find. The meat itself was good but the bread to meat ration was way off. My biggest issue though was the mashed potatoes and gravy. I'm a mashed potatoes girl. Bad mashed potatoes are not a thing but mediocre potatoes definitely are. These were mid, at best. The gravy was awful. I actually threw it away because I disliked it so much. It was salty, seemed like they dumped an entire bottle of garlic powder in it, and it hardened after about a minute of being on the potatoes. Not good. I'm sure some things here are good, but the results did not meet my expectations.

Jack M.

Yelp
Very good traditional roast beef execution. We ordered the open faced roast beef sandwich. The beef was so tender and thinly slice and for that I'm assigning the highest score. The beef gravy and mashed potatoes were fairly standard and nothing special (but also not terrible). They were a bit more seasoned than I would prefer, especially the gravy. Overall, this beef is clearly excellent and worth a try.

Chue L.

Yelp
Arbys better, take my word. Roasts beef has no flavor here. Probably wont return here. Feels like your just chewing on meat with no flavor.

RengBee F.

Yelp
Mavericks was good today. Expensive but good. French dip and a malt that was actually a shake.

Lynne C.

Yelp
I've had this saved on my local eats list for some time and finally had a chance to check it out over lunch yesterday! You order at the front and they will bring the food to your table if you're eating in. We made the newb mistake of hanging around the cooks til the cashier said we could sit and wait haha. Food came out quickly and there is a pretty expansive condiment bar which was really nice to choose from! I ordered the French dip with fries which was reasonably priced and ample serving size. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't super flavorful and the bun was toasted - pretty minor overall so willing to come back again another time.

Mikayla K.

Yelp
Food: Real roast beef sandwiches in a variety of styles (plain, w/ cheddar, w/ au jus). The roast beef was slightly dry the time I ate here but I think it must have been an off day as I've heard rave reviews about this restaurant. We ordered the Roast Beef Sandwich, Beef & Cheddar, and French Dip. The Roast Beef was hearty, though I recommend adding your own sauces and/or toppings at their little condiment bar. The Beef & Cheddar was good; the cheddar sauce wasn't too overpowering. Although it comes with a pretzel bun, which I feel should be stated on their menu as a lot of people don't like these. The French Dip was tasty, although the portion seemed smaller relative to the Roast Beef Sandwich. The au jus could've been a little bit saltier, but was overall very satisfying. Venue: A no-frills restaurant with your standard tables and chairs. Has a dining hall/cafeteria type feel. No booths. Parking lot available.

Tanner M.

Yelp
Best place to get a roast beef sandwich. They are always quick and friendly. Weather you dine in our take out I would definitely recommend this place.

Chris H.

Yelp
Yum. This one may be mostly nostalgia but I love these roast beef and turkey sandwiches. Good, basic food but yum. There's an old school Dairy Queen right there for dessert too

Blake B.

Yelp
Always excellent food and fast service. I got the French dip most recently, and will definitely be getting it again. I'd suggest going with the large option, since you'll be wanting as much as you can

Danielle R.

Yelp
This place was featured on the news this spring. I saw it and screenshot the story. Finally came here this past weekend and it was amazing. It's such a gem. The employees were very friendly, the beef was fresh and tasty and the fries were cooked to order. Nice and hot. When you walk in you order your food and sit at a table. The menu is limited but that's to be expected when a place specializes in one thing. Roast beef. Yummm. Who needs anything else. Sure there's other choices but who cares!! The malts are good too. I loved all the sauce varieties as well. You have to try each type of BBQ and sauce. Variety is the spice of life right? I am already craving another French dip. Guess I need to make another trip soon :)

Jessica P.

Yelp
Food: I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Their sandwiches are all so good! I crave their beef & cheddar! Drinks: I had a chocolate shake and it was perfect! Pros: the food is cooked perfect and served fast! Cons: I don't live next door and I can't eat this everyday! Experience: the seating area is spacious, the service is top notch, and the food is drool worthy. If you love Arby's... this is Arby's taken to michelin star level!! Ok maybe not but it's a million times better than Arby's!

Matthew H.

Yelp
Maverick's was great! I had the roast beef sammie and potato salad. The roast beef was a premiu cut that was cooked perfectly. They had a large toppings bar that was nicely packaged and clean for safety. I had to try all of their sauces and each were unique and tasty. Service was VERY polite and efficient during a busy lunchtime. I had a Grain Belt beer which washed this lunch down nicely. I'll be coming back for certain!

Risa Y.

Yelp
Still THE best roast beef sandwich I've ever had! Roast beef that melts in your mouth, on a toasted yummy bun with plenty of fixings! YUM, YUM, YUM!
