The Best Restaurants In Tokyo

"Some conveyor-belt sushi spots can feel grungy, but Mawashizushi Katsu does not. While the conveyer-belt spot Miuramisa has a more convenient location, Mawashi wins for sushi quality. There’s usually a line here, but the wait is manageable and they have the seating process down to a science. The sushi chefs will also make some specialty items for you, and they’re willing to keep things basic with tempura or California roll if you need. Just don’t ask for a tempura-California roll - that’s crossing the line." - josh layne

Google
Sushi train in the delightful Meguro district. Bit of a wait, over 20 minutes at lunch time. Firstly the fish was incredibly fresh, we ordered a huge variety and each piece was very high quality with the perfect ratio of warm rice and kick from the wasabi. Highlights were the fatty tuna, giant prawns, fatty salmon and octopus. Compared to other sushi trains we have been to, taste was very high standard. Atmosphere was good, we got a spacious booth and it was very clean. Service was good too, we had a nice lady who knew we don't speak Japanese and paid some extra attention to us to ensure we were not too lost. Lastly, the price was very reasonable, about 3000 yen per head and we ate A LOT. I'd highly recommend this one.

Sweet large red prawn. Crispy prawn tempura. Long wait on sunday night. 50 groups ahead of us when we arrive at 6pm.

Waited about 30 mins around 6pm on a regular Tuesday dinner. Food was amazing, service was great too. Crab miso soup is a must! Seriously the best dish ever.

I recently had the most fantastic sushi experience at Mawashi Sushi Katsu Midori Meguro, and I'm still thinking about it! From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the lively yet inviting atmosphere. The conveyor belt was absolutely packed with vibrant, tempting dishes, making it tough to decide where to start. I loved being able to just grab what caught my eye, but also having the option to order specific items fresh. Every single piece of sushi I tried was incredibly fresh. The tuna practically melted in my mouth, and the salmon nigiri was so buttery. I also ventured into some of their more unique offerings and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and creativity. The prices were surprisingly reasonable too, especially considering how delicious everything was. It's definitely a spot I'll be revisiting on my next trip to Tokyo, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a genuine, fun, and delicious sushi experience. You really can't go wrong here!

This was my first time trying a conveyor belt sushi restaurant. There was no wait and I was seated immediately. The instructions were straightforward and I began waiting for the sushi plates to come around on the conveyor belt. After waiting for 2-3 cycles, I realized that sushi was not being added to the conveyor belt often and the couple of items that I kept seeing go past me, werent being touched by anybody. I ended up grabbing two pieces of sushi off the conveyor belt and ordered everything else directly with the chef. The chef was great and very timely and the rest of the staff was very pleasant. The rolls that I ate were good, but I give the food 3 stars simply because of the conveyor belt experience. Maybe it was just bad timing as I was in there around 2 pm and the place has almost filled up.

Google
Great Sushi🍣 restaurant with affordable prices💰 Large topping, variety of fishes🐟, good queue management system. You can place your order on the equipped tablet📱 with foreign languages such as English, Chinese and Korean. If you are looking for Sushi restaurant around Meguro area, I would highly recommend this place.

Google
Second visit to this location, got my ticket and was waiting for the notification in LINE but nothing came when I was next in line. The lady assigning seats did acknowledge my ticket and I was assigned sit after. The seafood was fresh, however, the sushi rice itself fell apart (literally). I wouldn't return again due to its dropping sushi standards.

Google
Very popular place so arrive early. No reservations and I was waiting in line for 45 mins. Food is super fresh and delicious. It is a cash only place or credit/debit card(no tap pay).

Yelp
This revolving sushi spot is no secret! Highly rated on Google, but that's not what brought me in. I was first brought here by my aunt who lives in Meguro. I was so surprised to see how BUSY it was since it's pretty hidden in the back of a building by the subway station. When I got here, I had to queue up in the kiosk. Took a ticket and waited patiently for my number to be called. I think I waited at least 30 minutes... They have both bar and table seating. I was hoping for the bar seating and we lucked out. I liked the fact that you can take the plates off the conveyor belt or order from the tablet. It's a plus that they have the menu on the tablet in different languages. Also, you get unlimited self-serve hot green tea. Service is good, food is delicious and the price is even better! We ate a LOT and spent about $20 usd per person. This is unheard of in the States. I also noticed how majority of the patrons were locals. That's when you know it's goooood!

Yelp
Good for a quick lunch if you're in the neighborhood, it's not worth a special trip. The sushi I tried was good, but I had hoped for more options on the belt to try something different. As a party of one, I stopped by at 12:30p on a Friday and was seated within 15 minutes. There are tablets with an English option) at your seat to order drinks and any sushi you don't see on the belt. The conveyor belt was nearly empty during my 45m lunch, so I had to order all of mine from the table. I assume this is the norm as many of the diners near me ordered immediately upon seating. This is inside the mini mall that is next to the train station. Enter the mall and walk around the supermarket. It will be on your right before the restrooms.

Yelp
Finally back in JP and hit this place up twice since it was close to our office. Service is still great, food excellent (cheap for JP, but would be high quality in US), still busy and popular as ever. Queue up in the line outside then eventually move to the inner seating queue, but only takes about 15m since everything moves quickly!

Yelp
I got here at 11:30am and there were like 30 people in line (some sitting behind the counter). Must be good (so I gave it 5 stars haha)... I had a train to catch and thought it would be quick.. too bad it was so popular and I didn't get a chance to try.. maybe next time.

Yelp
Lovely place, cute train car that travels and delivers you the food. great conveyer belt. and cool way to scan all your dishes when youre done at the end. Everything was fresh and delicious. Worth the 1+hour wait.

Yelp
Alright, so sort of a really awkward experience if you don't speak Japanese. The process is really confusing and even if you look really confused, no one seems to offer to help. The process is not seat yourself even if there are tons of open spaces at the conveyor belt. You have to sit in a line and wait for the hostess to make time to seat you. When I arrived just before 5pm, there were only two people ahead of me and easily 10 spots open. I pointed to 1 and asked if I could sit and the staff was fairly rude and shook their head. I waited for about 15 minutes and finally they sat me down in the exact open spot I had been waiting for. Cool, I got over it. The ordering process for things off the menu was not overly clear so I asked and was informed to write down the number. However, they meant to tell me to write down the name of the item ( had to learn how to write Kanji...). Once you ordered the food arrived pretty quick and you can entertain yourself enough by what is going around the conveyor belt. The food was GREAT! I got the fried oysters, coconut shrimp (BEST EVER), California roll, specialty eel, and some other things I don't remember... I was trying to order water as none was served and finally gave up trying to flag someone down. They also don't have napkins so I made quite a mess of myself. Prices are reasonable, ate a load of sushi for $14. Point knock down is really for the service as I felt rushed to pay and leave even though they had a very clear sign ( oddly enough the only sign in English) stating that you are only allowed to sit for 90 minutes. I was probably there for less time than what I waited to be seated and still felt rushed out. The check out process was also overly complex. 4 different people came to analyze my plates. I will probably still come back since the good is super good and well priced. It's located in Meguro station on the main floor in the very back corner!

Yelp
Yes, there's a queue set up outside. Yes, there's a queue set up inside as well. But, it goes by pretty fast, especially if you're just two people. The space is huge! And, it seems like there's a high turnover of customers finishing their meals, which helps with the fast-moving queue. I have an American bias so sushi in Japan is top-notch. What little conveyor belt sushi / sushi boat options we have in California is cheapcheap and tastes like it. But in Japan, it's on another level. The sushi here at Mawashi tastes like what San Franciscans can get at a higher-end sushi place. And the most expensive item is about 500-600 Yen (~5-6 USD). Two pretty and delicious pieces of "the best of extra fatty tuna" for 500 Yen. Seriously, where can I find this at home? The setup is pretty simple. There's a conveyor belt with sushi plates you can just pick up and start eating. There's 7(ish) different plates that signify different prices. And there's a menu for you to look through so you can write down what you want to order on a sheet of paper to hand to the sushi chef. When you're finished, let one of the waitress staff know and they'll come over and SCAN THE PLATES to see how many you had and at what price level. MIND. BLOWN. That's some tech we don't have back in the States! We liked this spot so much we decided to have our last meal in Japan here. Until next time, you extra fatty tuna.

Yelp
Overall good experience. (Tip: to avoid the long lines, go during off-peak times like 4:30 pm.) We got to the front of the line in a remarkable 15 min. We ordered from the tablet and the sushi was made and delivered to us extremely fast. It's understandable how they get people in and out of the restaurant quickly. Sushi (taste) was as good as any kaiten place. The pieces of fish were long cut (draping over the rice) but thinly sliced. Price was reasonable and the party was very satisfied. When leaving, the line was its usual out-the-door which reminded me to come early if I want to eat there again.

Yelp
Probably my favorite conveyor belt sushi place. The wait might seem long but it goes by pretty quick. Once seated, you can grab whatever dish you want on the conveyor belt or you can put in an order by writing it on the form and handing it to the chef. I always get the 3 fatty tuna combo and it never disappoints! The flounder and salmon are also good choices. We tried a couple of other conveyor belt sushi places in Tokyo but we found that we still like this place the best.

Yelp
I showed up at 6 pm on a weekday, and had to wait an hour to be seated. Because I was alone I got to jump past the 8 or so couples/groups in front of me. Once I was seated at the counter I was absolutely confused. If I had not had a nice English speaking lady next to me explaining what to do, I would've just be lost. You can either grab plates in front of you from the rotation, or you can order specific items from the menu. When ordering the items you just write down the number, and how many of that item you would like. You then give that to a waiter and they will take care of that for you. They have a rotating "fish" that will bring you your special ordered food, and once you take it off the tray you push a red button in front of you to send the fish back to the chef. I picked this place because it was known to have quite a few vegetarian options, and it absolutely did not disappoint. There were at least 10-12 veggie options - my favorites being the Inari, tamago (egg nigiri), avocado tempura, fried eggplant, and that's just off the top of my head. The seaweed pate was a pleasant surprise, but the natto and okra sushi's were absolutely disgusting - I didn't realize both items had such a phlegm like consistency to begin with. The soy sauce provided is NOT vegetarian, I believe it has bonito flakes in it. I've read other reviews on happy cow that stated that the chefs will bring you BBQ Sauce (which is vegetarian) or something else if you want it. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a variety of vegetarian options, which can be hard to find in Tokyo.

Yelp
Great food. The quality of the fish is good. They have LOTS of variety. You can eat way more quality fish here then at a traditional sushi restaurant. They are friendly, but do not come with high expectations on service - you literally order from an iPad. I will be coming back next time I'm in Tokyo.

Yelp
Very popular with locals and we waited about 5 minutes before being seated. Not much in the way of signage but you can figure things out on your own if you've been to similar type places. There's two conveyor belts. The top belt will have sushi and other items. The color of the plate indicates how much each item is. Stack the plates so it's easy to tally up the bill at the end (they use a hand scanner to count the plates). The bottom belt has cups and saucers. Grab a cup, put in some green tea powder and fill it with hot water from the spigot. Use the saucers for sky sauce. Wasabi is on the top conveyor belt and will come by in square containers. Items here were fresh as the turnover of items is high, especially when the place is packed. You can order things directly from the sushi chefs also. When you order things like beer from the waitress they'll give you an empty plate along with i, this is simply for billing purposes at the end so don't be confused or discard the plate.

Yelp
What went well: -Quality sushi -Great prices (less than $20 for 2) -Conveyor Belt and efficiency in service Room for improvement: -No one spoke English Details: I had a 36 hrs in Tokyo and an aggressive agenda but needed to try quality sushi in Tokyo and off a conveyor belt no less! Mawashi Sushi Katsu did not disappoint! We showed up around 9:15pm on a Thursday and there was what appeared to be a long line but it cleared up pretty quickly (15-min wait). The restaurant closes at 10pm and we wrapped up just in time. After sitting down, we were free to grab anything off the conveyor belt. Ordering Tips: If you fancy something else beyond what's on the conveyor belt, you can open up the menu which has pictures and captions in both Japanese and English. You'll grab an ordering slip, circle your assigned seat #, and write down the dishes you'd like. Once that's done, hand in your slip directly to the sushi chef and they'll whip it up in just a couple of minutes. None of the servers explained this process to us and my wife and I were rookies to this experience. Thankfully, another patron recognized our confusion and had mercy on us! Apart from the English barrier, I'd highly recommend based on the value, the quality, and the overall experience

Yelp
One of best conveyor belt sushi restaurant in the area. High quality fish at a low cost. They usually have the fish in season and it's much better than going to genki sushi. They also have take out boxes outside the restaurant that you can purchase. The line is usually pretty long but only about a 30min wait. The turnaround is pretty quick.

Kiki C.

Yelp
If you love sushi and you're in the area come here. We ate here 3 times. You can just take food off of the conveyor belt or they do offer an English menu which is very helpful. The menu offers much more selection than the conveyor belt itself. The fish is very fresh and the prices were very reasonable. It is located in Atre 2 to by Meguro station. Walk in the main entrance and walk straight down the hallway. It's at the end of the hallway on the left hand side.

Yelp
Very rarely am I ever wanting to give a place five stars but I would give this place six stars if I could. Although convey belt sushi isn't rare in Tokyo I found it hard to locate a location with enough vegetarian options. I stumbled upon Katsu Meguro online and based on reviews decided to give it a try. This place was a little hard to find, it's located on the eighth floor surrounded by other restaurants. The store doesn't have a sign saying "Katsu Meguro" so I was a little confused if I had located the right place. There's two seating options, 1. Counter- you'll write down on a card what you want. 2. Table- you'll order via tablet and have almost zero human interaction. ((We sat at the table lol.)) The tablet is super easy to use and has an incredible English function. We started with some garlic fries, avocado tempura (pass on this), fried chicken, mochi, corn sushi, etc. Once you send your order the sushi chefs will make your order and it arrives as you guess on a conveyer belt! Using the tablet you can continue ordering more food (prices are shown) and once your done you can request the check. An employee will come and scan your plates to get a receipt and you check out near the front. I'd go back again without thinking twice!

Peter L.

Yelp
Excellent selection and affordable. The portions of fish are huge, and variety is extensive including seared tuna and salmon, nodoguro, unagi and anago, fried dishes including karaage, among many others. Service is fast and efficient. Plates can be pulled off the conveyor or ordered on a touch screen. For a total of 40 plates of sushi was around 47$, so incredible price for the quality.
google avatar

Pete M.

Yelp
As far as conveyor belt sushi goes, this place is solid and has a good selection of options to choose from and the prices are very reasonable. The fish quality is good, especially for the more expensive options like fatty tuna. The chefs do a good job at watching how long the food goes around and pulling it if no one is eating it. Even the karage gets pulled if no one takes it in a few minutes. In terms of costs, figure about 2,500 yen per person for a good mix of sushi and a beer. Given the food quality and low prices, it gets really crowded during the dinner rush, but for the most part it moves along pretty quickly. If you have big parties it will be a much longer wait, as there are only 3 booths and 2 tables - everything else is counter seating.
google avatar

Ingo A.

Yelp
Great quality, excellent service and fast. Decent draft beer. Highlight on O-TORO, Blue fin and eel although everything ordered was delicious.
google avatar

Jp P.

Yelp
One of the best bang for your buck sushi places in Tokyo! Their sushi quality is par or above some of the best in the US. You can order directly to the sushi chefs if you know some Japanese. Otherwise, you can stick w the ones on the conveyer belt, but pay attention to make sure which ones are the freshest before you make your move. Their seasonal items such as Buri, fresh opened uni... are amazing. (For the price of course)
google avatar

Natalise K.

Yelp
Loved this spot for lunch. Had the albacore tuna, unagi x2, red snapper, escolar (SO good), uni, inari, tamago, salmon, and... one other but I'm forgetting now. If you're a fan of uni, go ahead and get the "premium" uni instead of the regular. I wish I had because the regular uni was a bit dark and "fishy." In any case, I will definitely go back. BTW - it's pretty cheap... I went with a friend and we split everything; the total bill came out to 1800yen, which is less than $18. What?! Score!

Yelp
Value for money. Casual dining-style sushi. You can enjoy every dish and be satisfied at the end. Only problem is: you have to get in the line and to wait for a long time, sometimes no less than 1hour. If you have enough time and have not much money but desperately wanna have a good sushi, this is the place to go.

Christine N.

Yelp
There's usually a wait, but it worth waiting for! Great sushi and great prices! We got the toro, uni, yellowtail, abalone, and some other fishes. All were fresh, tasty, and perfect over their rice. Can't wait to go back again!
