Google
Fine dining restaurant with good service. Carlton our host was very friendly and helpful apart from other staff members who gazed at us as we looked visitors to the area, they weren’t friendly at all. Food was fresh and perfect. The mussels were succulent, the fish and ships were delicious and fried calamari was excellent as well. The paella was ok but lacked taste. Overall experience was very good apart from the weird totally unfriendly gaze from the reception staff. The second visit was far much better.

All smiles Over Here Phenomenal

I took my husband here for Father's Day. This was my first time ever eating here. I made reservations for 2:30. When we arrived, we asked for outdoor seating, which they provided. Once they sat us out there, it took 20 minutes for a waiter to come to our table. Mind you people came after us and their waiter came to their table right away. It took my husband to ask one of them waiters who was waiting on another table if we get a waiter as well. We finally get one, so we place an order for drinks appetizers and then our meals. Once we received our meals, it looked and smelled delicious, but trust me, looks can be deceiving. When we got home, my husband was so sick. He was throwing up all night. His stomach was hurting, and he was sweating so bad. He practically had to sleep in the bathroom because he was vomiting so much. He had the seafood luguini for his meal. We had calamari for appetizers. I had the New York strip with asparagus and a side of Shrimp Scampi. I was going to get the seafood laguini just like him. Thank God I didn't. All I know we would never eat here again. The worst thing that could happen to you is eating bad seafood. My poor husband had food poisoning after eating from this place.. The worst part is too.It was on Father's Day...

Google
Delicious restaurant - great seafood. But what stood out to me was how well the staff treats the clients: we had in our group very allergic to shellfish, and the menu had options for her, but in addition to that the manager made sure that her meal was prepared on a surface that has not been in contact with shellfish at all and took the time to explain every ingredient that went into her plate so that she felt confident that it was safe for her. This to me is a place that really cares! And well food, absolutely delicious!

My 4th and final stop on my mini food tour today at my favorite seafood Happy Hour @maxfishct & I'm glad I did because my FAVORITE server, Rachel V. was there! I hadn't seen her for a while and was worried she left but she cheerfully greeted me as I sat down; I almost broke out into happy tears! She remembered my regular seafood tower order and what my husband ate each time we go there. It may not seem like much but the attention to detail of what we like and dislike makes our dining experience so special. It keeps us coming back. Ask for Rachel V! I always get the seafood tower because I love the items that comes with it. Oysters are fresh. Lobster with drawn butter is a must. I love their calamari Asian style salad too! Chili lime shrimp is grilled, served in a coconut curry lobster broth with jasmine rice and peppers. I wish they cleaned up my bowl a bit because it was messy and presentation is everything; not to mention the plantains were missing but my favorite server took care of that and that's why I love Rachel V! The flavor of this dish makes it a new favorite of mine. The Spanish stuffed clams could've used more clams in it; I probably won't get it again. The Baltimore shrimp cocktail is delicious and served with a nice mustard. I go for the food. Our eyes eat first and my camera eats before anyone. Make your food pretty so we can enjoy good food much more. Don't plop on the plate like slop in a cafeteria line!

Google
Nice seafood place. They have happy hour everyday at 3:30pm so I went for that. The food was good - fresh oysters, good fried shrimp and calamari, and drinks were also good. The space is spacious and large. Good for dates, catching up with friends, or a large get together. It was clean and modern inside with a huge raw bar near the entrance. Service is friendly and lovely and very accommodating. Would come here again for their oysters.

Google
MaxFish is dining at its finest! Exquisite presentation of the lobster! Risotta prepared to perfection. Green Goddess dressing on the salad... so flavorful! Service with a beautiful smile! Melt in your mouth bread! Truly, the best seafood experience that I have ever had. By the way, it was the most tender lobster! Compliments to the chef! Outstanding!

Google
5/5 Max Fish is an impressive restaurant. Came here with a group from work and the servers did an excellent job keeping up with everyone's requests. I ended up having the buffalo shrimp, not something I see on menus regularly, and it was fantastic. Ending the occasion with a rich affogato was the way to do it. If I lived in the area, I'd be a regular!

Google
We met friends here for happy hour and had a really good experience. The hostess sat us right away. Our waitress came over shortly afterwards and introduced herself. She was really nice, reviewed the menu with us and took our drink orders. We each enjoyed some food and had a relaxing time. It’s a nice casual atmosphere There was plenty of tables to sit at as well as a good sized bar to sit. There was plenty of parking available. It’s easy to get to as it’s located near stores etc. it’s also easy to get to from I-91.

Yelp
Dinner at Max Fish was the best meal I have had in a long while, and it may well be my new favorite restaurant. Now, I love to eat fish, and that probably is a prerequisite for liking Max Fish. It obviously is quite popular, as it was packed when we arrived at five-thirtiesh on a Thursday. It was loud; everyone seemed to be having a great time! I had a halibut special and my wife had a warm lobster roll. Service was friendly and efficient. The wine list is good. Everything on the table was delicious! I look forward to many more great meals here.

Yelp
Recently went for happy hour. It was packed and the menu looked great. The drinks were great but the food fell short. I was so surprised as I have had an excellent fish dish here for an entree lunch before. Maybe it was due to high demand and churning the food out so quickly at happy hour but I ordered 4 things and they all missed the mark and fell short. I would come back for lunch or dinner but not happy hour.

Yelp
Amazing! Decided to go here after seeing so many good reviews. I thought this would be the best place to celebrate my parents' birthday and we all left happy. We were seated in the dining section of the restaurant (it's huge) and it was so nice inside. Our server was super friendly and attentive. He answered all of our questions and gave recommendations. We started off with drinks and the sampler. I strongly recommend the sampler for a group of three or more. It had everything we needed and more! The seafood was so fresh and tasty. For the entree I went with the NY steak strip and half a lobster. Not only was it delicious but filling and I was able to take the rest home. For dessert, they were able to give us two cookies for both of my parents to celebrate. I'll definitely be coming again! 10/10

Yelp
I haven't been here in quite a while. Notice how WIDE my parking spot is. The restaurant is located on 110 Glastonbury Blvd in Glastonbury, CT. This may be, perhaps, the best Happy Hout I have ever seen. For my first drink, I'm having the Max Manhattan made with Old Overholt Rye, Cinzano Sweet Vermouth, orange bitters and orange twist. This has a nice garnish and tastes great! For my first food item, I'm aging a Caesar Salad made with romaine lettuce, garlic croutons and Parmesan cheese. The smell of cheese is quite strong! This tastes good. For my next food item, I'm having a Salmon lettuce cup. Nice presentation! It's on a bed of ice and a lemon to sprinkle. This is quite good! Next up, I'm having a Cup of Clam Chowder. I believe these are house-made croutons. This came out quick! It's nice and hot! Tastes great! Well, with a little hot sauce that is... Finally! Some music. For my next drink, I'm having an Old Fashioned made with Old Forester Bourbon, simple syrup and Angostura bitters. Damn! Nice presentation and a great tasting drink! The bartenders are good here! Very attentive! For my next food item, I'm having the Steamed Mussels made with pickled fennel and shallots, white wine cream, herbs and focaccia (bread). I love the focaccia! The mussels are real good! For my next food item, I'm having the Mango Scallop Ceviche. It is made with scallops, mango purée, onions, avocado and chips. It's thick. This is quite tasty! To wash this all down, I'm getting a bottle of Pellegrino sparking water. I like this stuff! For my next food item, I'm having 4 (Buck a Shuck) Cherrystone clams and 4 Oysters (only $1.95 each). These are good! I love the cocktail and vinaigrette sauces! For my next drink, I'm having a Winter Daiquiri made with Plantation 3 Star, cinnamon simple syrup and lemon juice. What a great drink! Very unique taste! For my food item, I'm having the "Baltimore Style" Shrimp Cocktail made with Old Bay Seasoning and stone ground mustard. OMG! For my next good item, I'm having the Blackened Fish Taco made with Mezcal mango salsa. I love Mezcal! This is the best fish taco I have EVER had! Wow! The seasoning on that taco is unbelievable! For my last appetizer, I'm having the Happy Burger made with lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. I miss this! This is delicious! For dessert, I'm having the Cake Truffles. These taste like fudge balls. For my final drink, I'm having the Gin Gimlet made with Greylock Gin, simple syrup and lime juice. This is good! It's light so it's easy to drink at the end of my meal. That's 11 food items I ate and 4 mixed drinks. What a fantastic meal here!

Yelp
First visit, convenient as it was walkable from my hotel. Environment is warm, inviting, and clean. Had their Canadian grilled halibut - very satisfying both to the eyes and palate! The citrus-plum jam worked beautifully with the fish. Also enjoyed a couple NEBCO fuzzy, baby duck brews! Service was excellent.

Yelp
Good lobster roll comes with fries & slaw. I didn't like the slaw at all. The fish & chips came with slaw as well. The fish was overly battered, and fish was tasteless with pockets of raw batter inside. This place was very busy on a Sunday afternoon. If I'm in the neighborhood, maybe I'd drop in for the lobster roll, but their fish & chips were disappointing. Happy Yelping!

Yelp
The ambiance was great! The atmosphere was great. The service was great! The food was delicious and fresh! They definitely didn't hold back on the liquor in the drink! The island time drink was a 10/10! I would definitely recommend this spot for a date night!

Yelp
My wife and I were celebrating the day that I proposed to her. We had a very nice meal. I started with the tuna tar tar and my wife had some shrimp cocktail. Our entrees were the paella and a Tuscan salad with grilled chicken (not a big seafood gal). Food was all on point. What I would like to point out was the service. Our waitress was great but the table next to us was an elderly couple who were obviously regulars. The woman needed some assistance and the staff were very helpful and patient. No less then 5 different employees stopped by the table to greet them and say hello. We will definitely be returning soon.

Yelp
If you can't make it to the shore, fear not-- fresh and flavorful seafood can be found in Glastonbury! The ambiance is really charming, with a clean and comfortable atmosphere, and the servers are very knowledgeable about the menu. Don't miss: the desserts are definitely worth trying here!

Yelp
Take 2 wasn't quite as pleasant as 2016... Instead of going for my own pleasure this time we held our 2024 Pratt & Whitney President Leadership Holiday Party at Max Fish... and while my meal (which was a steak), was good - those who ordered the Scallops were left with a little left to be desired. The service was ok (our assigned server Briana was on it), we just wish there was more attentiveness to it. The event portion was also a little slow, with responses, the décor was lacking.. not the typical 'Max' experience of excellent consistency...

Yelp
I had really great clam chowder. The espresso martini was excellent. Next time, we'll try dinner
google avatar

tc t.

Yelp
It was our second time there. The shrimp cocktail was amazing, the clam chowder delicious, and the main course of halibut very, very good. Service was pleasant and prompt. The ambience was classic New England Fishhouse. Will be back next time we're in the Hartford area.

Yelp
I've been eager to try a lobster roll during my time in Connecticut, and I'm glad I did! The lobster roll was a bit pricey but definitely worth it. While I wasn't a big fan of their coleslaw, overall, it was a pleasant experience.
google avatar

Susie H.

Yelp
Idyllic Glastonbury, Connecticut is a hidden gem with mesmerizing scenic and picturesque natural beauty and a most deliciously eclectic food scene by the Connecticut River. Max Fish, one of the best places I've ever eaten, is an utterly tasty AF New England seafood-focused restaurant in Glastonbury, Connecticut that serves up the best of the best from the Ocean, an absolute seafood haven: delicious Jumbo Lumped Crab Cake, so decadent Lobster and Shellfish Linguine, and don't forget the creamy New England Clam Chowder. I needed to lap up all of that cheesy goodness and get stuck in Max Fish's epic Truffle Mac and Cheese. It treated my cheesy cravings as a Mac and Cheese addict. Max Fish is charming, exoteric and a tad unpredictable. They surprised the hell out of my stomach in an outstanding way!

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The food was freshly prepared & packed with flavor. A very nice/clean atmosphere. a great sport for a date, business meeting or family.
google avatar

Victoria F.

Yelp
This is our second time here and it exceeded our expectations again. Started with the oysters - we decided to try every option they offered and were glad we did for each one had a different flavor. The clam chowder has clams in it and lobster bisque has chunks of lobster. The Caesar salad is big so we split it. If you like octopus try the grilled appetizer- it was delicious. The staff and service were great- they pay attention but do not hover.

Yelp
To briefly update my last review, our dinner tonight was excellent, consisting of martinis, lobster rolls, and glasses of house Chardonnay. We were lucky that it was lobster month, so the rolls 'only' cost $27 instead of the regular price, $38 (ouch!). Service was excellent and the atmosphere lively, but not overly loud. Very nice overall.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming here for over 15 years. However, today was the worse service I've ever had. Normally, I order the hi-rise raw bar tower and am able to swap clams for oysters, scallop ceviche for calamari salad and salmon tartar for anything else. Today, the server said I couldn't. So I went with a paella. Hubby got a lobster roll per usual. Their clam chowder was good. Coleslaw not good. Fries were undercooked. Rolls were hard and not fresh. Hubby ordered a second beer and apparently they ran out of beer glasses so he had to reuse his old one. Draft beers are closed. No draft beers were being served. Usually it's open with lots of variety. Ambiance is nice per usual. I'm really disappointed and feel like they're going downhill.

Yelp
I have eaten at Max Fish multiple times when in the Glastonbury area. It proves to be consistent on all fronts. This week was no different. Our party was greeted nicely as we entered, service was good, the food was good and we were made to feel valued as we departed. I recommend a visit to MaX Fish.

Yelp
Today's Happy Hour was one of the best ever. From the little booth on the other side of the room, Jennifer R. as our server and my dining partner definitely enjoyed ourselves. We decided to try some new items from the new menu. I was there last week but had only the Mussels to order again tonight. They were better than ever tonight with the pickled fennel and shallots adding a lot to the dish and the focaccia to dip in was heaven. Our two new tries where the Ceviche and the Gnocchi. We started with the Ceviche which contained mango and little scallops in a tart broth with tortilla chips. The Lemon Ricotta Gnocchi were complete little pillows of flavor with a touch of Calabrian chili oil. We ended up with separate orders of Mussels as I could never share that! I had a draft Modelo ice-cold to shield us from the jungle temperature of the parking lot and she had a Purple pomegranate Sunshine mocktail. Next time we have to order the Chili Lime Shrimp...

Yelp
Still the BEST happy hour ever! The place is packed and the menu is large! Max screams we love you. They now have opened the entire left side of restaurant as happy hour! Staff is amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here yesterday for some seafoods. My family really enjoyed seafood. For starters, we got the mussels, tuna tarter, baked clams and a raw bar tower. The mussels were delicious with the coconut curry sauce. The baked clams was great but wished the clams were a little bigger. The rawr bar is a great way to try a little of everything which was also fresh. We got the calm chowder which was delicious for a cold day. We got the lobster roll and fish and chips as the main. The fish was crispy outside and moist inside. The lobster roll had big chunks of lobster meat. One of the roll had a hair inside but they changed it for us and came out with a new one. Overall, come to this place to give it a try. If you get cold easily, maybe layer up since it was pretty chilly inside.

Cassie P.

Yelp
Max Fish is the absolute best! I especially love the happy hour - there are so many amazing options to try!

Lucine D.

Yelp
Food was delicious and portions for the entrees were great. Bread basket was also very tasty. Service was a bit slow but the ambiance was nice inside.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go for Happy Hour 3:30-6 and last call of food is 5:30. They change the menu seasonal for HH. The atmosphere is always pleasant and great staff that work there. I love there drink specials they offer for HH. Always fresh seafood.

Mary P.

Yelp
Happy hour was excellent! One of the best burgers I ever ate ! My husband and daughter enjoyed so many of the happy hour seafood items. They were fresh and delicious .

Yelp
Great place! From succulent shrimp to melt-in-your-mouth scallops, every dish is a celebration of the sea's bounty. With a relaxed atmosphere and attentive service, dining here is a true delight. Whether you're a seafood aficionado or just looking for a memorable meal,

Great food selections, staff always helpful and professional. Nice atmosphere. Great buck a shuck

Yelp
100% yes for happy hour!!! We love it here! We've always gone for an early dinner ish happy hour but order from The HH menu and regular menu. The food is really great and so is the service. I think the quality of the food and ingredients is superb. Can get pricy but with it 99% of the time. The 1% that I didn't like was the octopus from The regular or specials menu it was a salty but the grill was pretty good. We always get the oysters Buffalo shrimp Calamari Scallop mango ceviche I ordered the fish and chips once and it was so thick it wasn't cooked all the way but I will try it again another time for sure. for dinner, I would recommend reservations. Happy hour gets pretty packed but I love that they have them every day.
google avatar

Kate O.

Yelp
The drinks are super good I got a purple sunshine the best drink ever and they give free things at brunch like fruit drink shots and gingerbread muffins and it's very fancy

John L.

Yelp
Amazing menu of primarily seafood. Great service and ambiance but fairly pricey. They have a good wine list. Parking can be a problem at times and reservations are generally a good idea.

Yelp
We were in Glastonbury, CT and try out for the first time at this awesome restaurant. we had a very nice lunch, our food came out fast and cook to perfection. Our server was so attentive and even the manager came over to check that we were well taking care of. So looking forward for our next visit.
google avatar

Kate L.

Yelp
I got the clam chowder, Bouillabaisse and the boyfriend got the salmon. Clam chowder was delicious. Homemade croutons were a nice touch. Love the salted butter they give you with the bread. Bouillabaisse definitely needed more flavor. I think the best part were the breadsticks in there. Probably wouldn't get that again. A bit bland. Salmon looked great I would maybe try that next time. Charming atmosphere. Sat at the bar after dinner and the bartenders were great. Great sense of humor and attentive. I love Max Restaurants!

Yelp
After frequenting the beloved Max Oyster in WeHa we were told to visit restos in Glastonbury the self-proclaimed (by a local -- don't shoot the messenger) 2nd best restaurant mecca closest to West Hartford.. and of course Max Fish being the sister of Oyster. I'd give Max Fish 3.5 if I could but since we can't half stars 4 will do bc the seafood was still great. We ordered the seafood tower and truffle fries bc truffles fries are life and compliment everything. Also ordered some cocktails. Went in a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quiet. Food was consistent ; service was solid ; ambiance was meh.. a huge part of restaurant experience for me is the overall vibe and that was missing for me.. for a few keys reasons.. - location, location!! Compared to Oyster House this is in the middle of nowhere and felt isolated.. - As mentioned we did go on a Sunday afternoon on a holiday weekend so we need to give it a pass here - but what really got me was that we sat at a highboy by the bar and they were flies EVERYWHERE!! I get it.. summer and open doors but WTH.. Not sure we'd be back considering we're closer to Oyster but we did appreciate the good food and service!

Yelp
My dad & I were mentally exhausted after spending 3 hours of paperwork across the way for our wills. Had to face my own mortality after classmates & friends have been leaving us. Had no idea Max AMORE which I always loved was gone since Im not from the area. But! i had gotten into a couple of conversations with the office staff and every single one of them mentioned how fantastic Max's Fish is. While the lawyer was steering towards J Gilberts everyone else steered towards Max's. We went with the staff recommendations. From the moment we walked through the door with our growling stomachs and headaches we had 2 of the lovliest ladies welcome us with a smile. How refreshing as I let out a "whew, thank you!" in my mind. The sparkling Christina came right over& you could tell just by the way she carried herself she had it all under control. Confident & knowledgeable. After dumping a ton of hard earned money into end of life issues we wanted something great but manageable, hence my posting of the Happy Hour menus. My dad, the gnocchi & Deep Eddys cranberry mule, me, the fish taco with the pomegranate margarita. My pairing was perfect, and Christina explained that the fish taco this particular night was the swordfish which made me think they change it up according to provisions. The taco was so fresh with a mango & red cabbage mix. so colorful. and DELICIOUS! Portions were perfect for me. If you need more order 2, the price is certainly reasonable! Tried the gnocchi-delish. idk about you, but i read descriptions of dishes & based upon that I make my decisions. The gnocchi lived up to its description and both dishes beautifully presented. Halfway through we both decided we wanted to try the Maxx's cheeseburger. We were laughing like, watch itll come out like a slider & we'll barely be able to cut it in half. Wow were we surprised when it came out. It was spectacular & juicy as could be. We left feeling well fed, rejuvenated & renewed!

Bea W.

Yelp
Waitstaff appropriately attentive and addressed all of our questions and warned us of items and f which they only had 1 order left (surprising given it was 12:45...but good to know). Diverse menu. Happy to have a broad selection that it was more than just fried fish/seafood with a lobster roll. Hot items were surprisingly reasonable.
google avatar

Lenny L.

Yelp
While the atmosphere is bustling , you can still have a nice cozy time. The food and service are top notch no matter what you order. The kitchen is also willing to make adjustments in to meet each diner's particular tastes. Whether you are joining friends, colleagues or family members you can be assured your fining wants and desires will met .
google avatar

Aleena S.

Yelp
We loved the ambiance, the food and the service! The staff was so generous and accommodating! The scallop dish I got was delicious! We got the lobster rolls and the salmon dish too (not pictured) which was also finger licking good!!

Yelp
Best happy hour close to home with my fav on the menu oysters. No complaints about the service and this is the perfect after work place after a long day.

Yelp
I've been with small and large groups for dinner and for brunch and the food and staff are always amazing. Food and specials are consistently fantastic and the drinks are always great as well. Would reccomend for happy hour, brunch or any occassion.

Yelp
I am a fan of max fish for sure but tonight my main meal the Tuna was out of this world. It came with truffles gnocchi. I am always hesitant of truffled food but the gnocchi with the mushrooms, tuna, and squash was insanely good. I savored every bite. I am never disappointed with our service they are always so attentive and helpful when navigating the menu options. The restaurant was busy but somehow it was not too load. Which is impressive to me because I have a hard time focusing on the conversation at my table when it's too loud.
google avatar

Shayla C.

Yelp
Another great trip to the neighborhood gem! And not just the food, but the service was also great! I really enjoyed my chicken Parm, which was huge! My husband got the salmon, a healthier option, but tasty and delicious! Kudos to Max Fish for consistency! Yum!

Yelp
Max Fish Happy Hour is easily one of the BEST deals around! This is a hill I will gladly die on! My partner and I frequently celebrate whatever we can at Max Fish. Why? Because the quality is impeccable, service NEVER disappoints, and it is clean! For this visit, we really splurged! We ordered a dozen of the cherry stone clams for $1 each, 6 oysters, 2 servings of French fries (don't judge, their fries are SO good), mussels, clam chowder, tacos, and a salmon poke bowl. I know - we really treated ourselves! My highlights are the cherry stones. As much as I love oysters, I feel like clams are a better bite! Max Fish always has incredibly fresh cherry stone clams which are always so beautifully shucked. I'm a huge fan of their French fries. They are thin, crispy, and well seasoned. For $3, it is a huge serving to go along with anything else you decide to order. Big shoutout to their mussels and poke bowl which I didn't expect to be so flavorful and impactful! The mussels we received were giant - I've never seen mussels so big before! I really enjoyed the poke bowls which had salmon, spicy aioli, avocado, cucumber, and seaweed salad. I highly recommend checking out Max Fish if you haven't yet! It's a pristine place to go for Happy Hour, but in general if you're looking for a delicious seafood meal! I am not ashamed to get down and dirty and order the steamed lobster here. You can taste how fresh everything is. I truly appreciate their dedication to freshness, cleanliness, and service! Max Restaurant group knows how to get it right!

Yelp
We made reservations and a good thing it was packed. Great atmosphere our server was very nice I had the chowder it was ok not the best but not bad. Had the lobster roll was small but super meaty and delicious. My wife had a glass of wine small serving and had calamari was good. My wife had the scallops she enjoyed. Overall we wer stuffed and pleased with our experience.

Yelp
The best seafood ever! We went for our anniversary and was not disappointed. They accidentally brought my husband two soups so who could complain about that!! I had the salmon and gobbled it down before I could even take a picture. Lemon drop martinis were made to perfection. We sat outside under the heated tent and it was exact right temperature. We will definitely be going back!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Kudos to the chef!! Great food! Cod was flaky and mashies were super good!! Thank you much for a delightful experience!!

Yelp
Went to Max Fish a couple weeks ago and just like all their establishments the food and service was top quality. I had the salmon. A nice char on the fish. Delicious lemon risotto underneath. Will definitely be back to Max Fish and any Max property.
