Upstate Craft Beer & Oyster Bar Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"You might be wondering how it’s possible to grade a world-renowned restaurant like Per Se on the same scale as we would a tiny oyster and beer bar in the East Village. It’s quite simple, actually. Regardless of the level of sophistication or style of cuisine at any given establishment, it all comes down to whether or not a restaurant resonates with us. Upstate may be relatively unheard of and fit to seat less than twenty people at a time, but we think it deserves a high rating on this site. And assuming you aren’t here just to write us hate mail, we think you’re going to like it, too. We can’t say enough good things about this place. The East Village needed a friendly neighborhood oyster bar in the worst way, and Upstate throws down like Amar’e with two hands. This one hits me right in the heart, too. I went to college upstate (Ithaca), and to find a bar that proudly serves Ithaca Caskzilla and Saranac on tap is a beautiful, beautiful thing. Everything served and sourced by Upstate is locally produced: cheese from Valley Shepard Creamery in New Jersey, meat and (incredible) pasta from Russo’s Mozzarella and Pasta on 11th street, Southhampton Beer, Wölffer wines - as long as it’s independent, small, and locally crafted, they can get on board with it. There’s no big name restaurateur at Upstate (it’s actually the same guys who used to run Shaffer City), nor will you find gimmicks, a press release, or even a freezer for that matter. The simple menu is small and ever-changing, depending on what’s fresh and available. There are always oysters - usually over a dozen options from both the East and West coasts. Other staples include beer-steamed mussels, scallops, and a ridiculous fettuccine with clams. Every menu item costs less than twenty bucks, and literally every single thing we’ve tried has been delicious. For a true seafood lover, this is heaven. When you go, you’ll no doubt meet Shane, who runs the joint. He’s the man. He’ll remember you after one visit. He recognized us right away after our first, brief stop-in. “Yeah, you guys were in here last week. You guys are movie stars or something, right?” Nope, and we will take that as a compliment even though it probably wasn’t one. We’re just two guys who are going to be sitting at your bar drinking beers and slurping oysters once a week for the foreseeable future. Food Rundown Oysters Upstate sports an insane selection of both East and West coast oysters. Big, small, briny, creamy - whatever your preference may be, it can be accommodated. And the best part? They each cost around two bucks. We’ve got one complaint though... why no mignonette? Let’s rectify that situation, please. It’s costing Upstate 0.3 points in this review. Scallops They seem to be prepared differently each week, but the scallops are picked fresh every day from the local seafood market and, when we had them most recently, were served over a farmers market zucchini and squash salad. Refreshing and delicious. Fettuccine With Clams Wow. This bowl of pasta is special and worth a trip on its own merit. This is easily the best pasta with clams in the ’hood and will be going into weekly rotation immediately. Seafood Bouillabaisse If you like shellfish and you like the taste of saffron, you’ll really enjoy this slow-simmered fish stew. Wife’s Whiskey Cake Since Upstate can’t serve Jameson on the rocks, they figured they’d do the next best thing - line their complimentary dessert cake with it. This is a beautiful homemade cake laced with whiskey, which means we’re either going to eat it or wring it out over a glass. It’s also free with your purchase of dinner." - Andrew Steinthal

I finally tried this spot for an early dinner. The food on the menu sounded so good, I was interested in trying it. On this visit, I ordered a hurricane cocktail. It was ok but I think I’ll lean differently next time. I wanted to play up the NoLa vibes, but I’m more of a whiskey girl. At the table, the first thing they give you is a small couple pieces of cornbread with a honey butter. The cornbread is served cold and it’s very dry. The honey butter was nice but it couldn’t save that cornbread. We had some raw oysters and fried green tomatoes as starters. The oysters were delicious and served on the half shell with ice and accompaniments of mignonette, cocktail sauce, and fresh shaved horseradish. The fried green tomatoes were served beautifully golden brown and crispy with a remoulade on the side. They had a nice flavor. While we were initially eyeing classic favorites like shrimp and grits or jambalaya, the evening special of barramundi was impossible to pass up. I’ve never eaten barramundi before, which was a perfect chance for me to try it. A quick phone search told me it’s like an Asian sea bass. I’m very familiar with Chilean sea bass, but not this kind. It was seasoned beautifully with a flavor profile combining herbs and butter in a light flavor letting the fish really shine. It was served on a bed of sautéed spinach, alongside a crispy potato cake (the potato cake is similar in size and shape to a crab cake). The sautéed spinach was delicious and garlicky. The potato cake was excellent, with a crisp outer crunch and an internal texture a little smoother than a hand mashed potato but not quite a purée. I was so glad I tried this dish, it was excellent and very light tasting. The potato made it a filling dish, which meant we didn’t go hungry. A great meal and the first of many!

First off - great food, drinks and staff! Although I've had several great dinners here over the years, the real hidden gem here is the bar's Happy Hour. Star of the show are the raw oysters / clams for the best price in town. They even have the fresh root for freshly shaven horseradish if you like it and a fantastic cocktail sauce on the side. Don't overlook the chilled / steamed peel-and-eat shrimp - honestly the best I've had without hearing the ocean while I eat them - they come well-dusted in Old Bay - perfect for auto-seasoning while you peel. While you're sitting at the bar, they have a great tap list and I highly recommend the only Hurricane I've found in town. Always friendly bartenders that are fast to shuck and pour! Shrimp, raw oysters with a Hurricane and I get a tropical vacation without leaving town. If you're not in the mood for Happy Hour, their Chicken-Fried-Chicken is great and they're famous for their Jambalaya.

Google
Cold corn bread with butter. Makes no sense.. cold corn bread to melt butter that came with it?! Were told it's complimentary, so don't have time to heat it. Jambalaya had pasta sauce in top of rice with shrimp and sausage! Very disappointed!

Google
We loved the atmosphere and the food. The reviews didn't steer us wrong. We thought the cornbread with sweet cream butter was delightful, but the shrimp and grits stole the show. It was an absolutely unforgettable dish. The peel and eat shrimp was also really tasty. We would highly recommend this cute establishment!

Visited Ithaca from Rochester to catch the Wallflowers concert. We had dinner at Maxie's before the show. The food was excellent! The fried green tomatoes were a hit. The fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes and collard greens was out of this world. We also ordered a trout dish which was a daily special that came with a cheddar filled potato cake and it was so good! Definitely worth a visit.

Google
This was our first time going to Maxie’s after living in Ithaca several years. It was OK… Searing was a little cramped but the atmosphere was warm and cozy. We had 2 $12 cocktails, each of which was quite good and generous on the strength. Some of the food was good. We liked the collards (excellent). Chicken was good but the fish lacked some flavor. We did not have oysters and I think this is what a lot of people go for, so read some other reviews for that. Service was exceptional and the online reservation system meant our table was ready as soon as we arrived.

Google
Super fresh oysters and clams. We sat at the bar and got right in. The staff was so friendly! The menu is unique, great atmosphere- almost reminiscent of places in the French quarter in New Orleans (but better!). Maxie’s is an Ithaca gem.

We’ve been eating at Maxie’s for 15+ years. In that time we’ve had amazing meals and sub par meals. This most recent time was extremely disappointing. The meal at Maxie’s always starts off with the corn bread. It was dry and overcooked. Maxie’s used to have amazing cornbread… I ordered the fish fry. The breading on the fish was overwhelmingly gummy and thick. Besides that, the fish was overcooked. The potion size of the fish has decreased and over compensated for by breading. The coleslaw was nothing more than cut cabbage. No mayo, no seasoning, no spice. We pointed it out to our server and she agreed with us. She mentioned something to the chef and we could see him giving her the death stare. It was inedible. My husband got a chicken sandwich ($16) that lacked seasoning and flavor. The tomato slice was enormous; the same size as the chicken piece. Their sandwiches are a small portion and don’t even include any sides. My daughter ordered the fried chicken plate but always substitutes the collard greens because another time we were at Maxie’s a server agreed with her that the collards are overly sweet and that she’d be better off substituting it for a different side. The mashed potatoes were good but had huge chunks of potato in them. Her chicken was also dry and had some inedible pieces. The only thing we really enjoyed were the French fries but we can get good French fries anywhere. It’s hard to want to come back when we receive a $100 bill for mediocre to terrible food that is validated by the waiters.

Yelp
Amazing service food and accommodation. My mom's 87 birthday and they made it so easy for her to come in and even rearranged tables to take care of her. Then they put a birthday candle on her dessert Best place ever. Thank you so much.

Yelp
Amazing! Officially my new fav place in Ithaca. The restaurant itself is super chic and super cool, and the food is phenomenal 10/10 I had the fried oysters and they were so fresh and yummy!

Yelp
My wife and I have been going to this restaurant since 2005! We are in love with this restaurant and its food selection. We went there back in June 2024 for my 25th college reunion and we took our kids (last time we ate here in 2007 there were no kids and we were newly married!). Ambiance: The restaurant has a very cool ambiance and decoration. It is hard to describe...very clean, very big, and very nice. Service: The service here is always nice...I would say you would have be truly unlucky to get bad service here. The staff is super nice. Food: I will let the description below explain ---------------------------------------------------------------- * Appetizers: I got a selection of oysters (can't remember which varietals) but they were very fresh! I was the only one out of our four who had them so the pics don't do it justice. * Fried green tomatoes: We had this one for the table and they were super tasty * Shrimp and Grits: My wife and I used to share this before and we had this as well and it was so tasty! The grits are always my favorite. * Chicken Fingers: My older son had this and he said it was very tasty. * Fried Shrimp: My younger son had this and I snuck a little bite and it was so YUMMY! I am sorry guys...this time I didn't take pictures of our food...my wife and I were so enamored of being at this place after 17 years that we forgot to till it was too late :)

Yelp
Maxie's is cute, busy, tasty, and fun. Servers are always fantastic and busy, but with great attitudes. Fried oysters and fried green tomatoes were spot on! My Caesar salad was also amazing. If you're looking for a 'healthy' choice, ask for the toppings and dressing on the side because that baby was loaded and I was there for it.

Yelp
The food is always incredible here and never disappoints! Fresh and tasty, with a unique set of options. The service is always quick and friendly and theyre very helpful when recommending food options! The ambiance is laid back and very fun! I will always go back to this place! The bartenders also know how to mix a great cocktail!

Yelp
This spot is definitely on my list to visit again and again! The food was incredible! So flavorful and filling. Our waitress was so helpful with making menu suggestions. I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
Graduation weekend and knowing my son loves oyster, I checked yelp and found this place. They have an Oyster Happy Hour, $2 each. Got a dozen of those & 6 Little Necks. Wife had a Caesar Salad and Crab & Corn soup. Son had a Bleu Cheese Burger and I had the Jambalaya. HUGE, I MEAN HUGE portions. Everything was delicious.

Yelp
Made a reservation for a time just after they opened so there was plenty of parking in their lot. We were seated immediately in what seemed like a patio area. My seat was kinda close to the table behind me and a guy had to scoot in as much as he could so I could sit. I ordered an old fashion as I always try it when I see it on a restaurant's list of cocktails. When it arrived, I noticed there were crushed Maraschino cherries and found it to be strong rather than smooth. It was okay. We started with the fried greens tomatoes which was fried perfectly and the right thickness for a hearty green tomato. Would absolutely order that again. I also ordered 6 oysters and oh were they so delicious. My boyfriend and I shared the fish and chips and were so glad we did. The plate was HUGE and covered in fries. There were four chunky pieces of dish so the entire dish is easily shareable. While I wasn't a huge fan of the old fashion, I would go back to try another cocktail and taste more items off the menu.

Yelp
Everything we had was great! Recommend the berry iced tea, fresh shucked oysters, chicken fried chicken, shrimp and grits. The grits are a must try! And the waitress was amazing! Wish I remembered her name.

Yelp
My wife and I visited on a busy Saturday night and we were lucky we had reservations. There is ample parking in a lot next door but obey the signs. The kitchen faces the main dining area and there is a nice charm about Maxie's. Like being in an old historic home. After we placed our order, we received a complimentary basket of corn bread which was fresh and tasty. My wife and I each began our meal with the Supper Club salad. Great choice! Very generous portion of greens, bleu cheese, toasted pecans, fresh apples, in a very tasty raspberry vinaigrette. My wife ordered the crab cake platter and I had the Jambalaya. The crab cake platter consisted of two large crabcakes with slaw. As a crabcake fan, my wife enjoyed them. My serving of Jambalaya was huge and I am embarrassed that I finished it all. Plenty of sausage and shrimp in a tasty creole rice. The prices were reasonable and competitive. The service was outstanding and very friendly. He asked about allergies and ensured none of the items we ordered contained any of it. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Not only does Maxies have great food and service, but good and caring people as well. We had a lovely meal here (stand outs were the crab cakes and the banana cream pie) and I left my wallet at the table, before the place closed for two days. These wonderful people mailed my wallet several states away back to me! I'm so grateful for their kindness and help getting my things back.

Yelp
This is our go to place for seafood and Cajun food. Reservations were easy and accommodating. Waitress was pleasant and timely.

Yelp
A friend of us recommended Maxi's so we decided to give it a try. I wasn't too impressed with the food. Gumbo fries was great but the greatness of our dinner stopped there. My blackened fish was burnt more than it was blackened. My husband's jambalaya was dry and the rice was hard and uncooked. Staff however was friendly and accommodating. We sat outside in the balcony area on a high top, which faces the parking lot, so nothing amazing to look at, but it was really nice out and they have flowers around the balcony. I probably will try all other restaurants in town before I return to Maxi's.

Yelp
First time at Maxie's in almost ten years and all the things to love about it are the same! Fast and friendly service, quick seat, warm hearty plates of good! Not pictured here are the cornbread (amazing butter!) and the Po' Boy, which my friend really enjoyed. Always a satisfying experience!

Yelp
We enjoyed a very good dinner here. We started with raw oysters during Happy Hour! Excellent! We ordered steamed clams, and were similarly pleased. We like to graze and had sides of collard greens and spinach. This was all topped off by a generous slice of Key lime pie.ambiance of Seafood /fish.. "kid and bustling. Service was good and did not rush us. Only negative is limited parking.

Yelp
My companion and I decided to try Maxie's for dinner while in Ithaca yesterday. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server brought menus and water promptly. We ordered raw clams and raw oysters for appetizer - which were served with cocktail sauce, vinegar and grated horseradish. I especially liked the oysters...they were fresh and so smooth. For our meal, I had a half order of Shrimp & Grits with a side of Collard Greens. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious! My companion had tuna which he loved. Service was outstanding as well. We will definitely return!!!!

Yelp
Casual bar feel with super friendly happy staff. Oysters and clams were fresh and delicious. Empress gin cocktail was superb. Bear in mind that parking can be limited. Definitely try to get here during happy hour, for the specials on the raw bar. Can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
did not expect such an amazing oyster experience in Ithaca. we went on a saturday night around 530pm, they only had seating at the bar (they had lots of tables and it was a really sad rainy day so they must be popular!!!). the service was amazing and we got to watch the oysters being shucked in front of us! can't imagine having her muscles. they came with FRESH horseradish (which i've never had) and YUM it was a slightly spicy, nutty flavor. there were two options of oysters that day in which me and my friend could not tell apart LOL. we said we liked the big ones so for round two the bartender gave us big ones only, so sweet! people sitting at the bar were friendly too. would come back again especially during happy hour 4-5:30pm

Yelp
I came to Maxie's earlier in the summer and the experience was just as memorable as I expected! Service was excellent, drinks were generous, and food was hot fresh delicious and included a variety of vegetarian options! Would certainly return if in the area.

Yelp
Sat at the bar last night and had great service from one of the bartenders, sleeved lady, and the shucker guy both. Good vibe, great margaritas, and the oysters were super fresh and tasted amazing! Definitely recommended!

Yelp
I have visited this restaurant MANY times and I will say not one time have I ever been disappointed! The food is always great! The service and staff are attentive and friendly! Make sure you get a reservation because this place is busy for a good reason!

Yelp
Absolute favorite restaurant in Ithaca! Everything on the menu is delicious (the shrimp and grits and fresh oysters are my favorite). I always enjoy their mojitos and Bloody Marys. Overall great atmosphere and all the wait staff and bartenders are outstanding!!! 10/10
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
I gave Maxie's 5 stars 4 years ago. So what changed? The price and the mixed drinks. Ordered some Manhattans which were about the size of a thimble for real Manhattan New York prices. The service is still fantastic, the raw bar rocks but the price is about 2 to 3 times what a similar New Orleans establishment would charge for the same thing. Believe me, I don't mind laying down $100 per person at a fine dining experience but this is not fine dining. It's fun dining, it's good for what it is but it's not a good value. And as it's a 30 mile drive for me, I'll think twice next time.

Yelp
First review in Ithaca, first 2-star review since I normally hold off on negativity--but this meal was beyond bad. I booked a reservation for my birthday dinner due to the great reviews on Yelp, but my friends and I were sorely disappointed. To start, the cornbread we got had a dry, crumbly texture that was punctuated by extremely sour bites (which my friend explained was from the baking soda not being incorporated/activated well). The drinks my friends got were all watery or sour. We ordered several appetizers: half round oysters, supper club salad, clams, cracker oysters, gumbo fries. The oysters were not bad but pricey. The salad lacked discernible dressing and the apples weren't fresh. The gumbo fries were pretty good, albeit very heavy after a while. DO NOT get the clams; the white wine sauce was sour (noticing a trend in these dishes). For entrees we got: blackened catfish, chicken fried chicken, shrimp fry. All of these entrees were lower quality than the appetizers; the catfish was acidic and the collard greens were oddly sweet, and the chicken fried chicken's breading was gummy. The location is also out of the way and the walk there from the Commons is definitely not a scenic one. The ambience within the restaurant was dim and run-down. I was really excited for this restaurant due to all the high ratings, but unfortunately, Maxie's is a hard pass.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Chill restaurant serving a variety of beers and Creole food. I ordered the Blackened Catfish Poboy and my girlfriend got the jambalaya. The fish in my sandwich was cooked to perfection but felt like the bread would have been better toasted. It also felt a little light on the tartar sauce. It was alright. My girlfriend would describe her jambalaya as "mid". The shrimp and rice were a bit overcooked. The Cajun fries and its accompanying sauce was great.

Carly K.

Yelp
Great food and service. Definitely a small building but great ambiance and serving sizes.

John R.

Yelp
We'd been in the area for about 3 days when we visited Maxie's, and up to that point, our culinary experiences at several popular places had ranged from "enh" to downright disappointing. In some cases, the service had been good and the food was just okay, and a couple of places were serving cold meals and charging and arm and a leg. When we walked into Maxie's, I was nervous. Let's start with the atmosphere: velvet walls. Beads. Cool light fixtures. Jazz. It feels southern and looked really cool. And the place felt established and comfortable - not like a "trying to hard to be appealing" place. Our server, Benny, was amazing. He was friendly, a great communicator, and had a wonderful personality. He's the kind of person you hope you see again when you return. The food. My god the food here redeemed all of Ithaca. Flavor! Seasoning! Personality! It was outstanding. I'd come here every day. The prices are more than fair for the quantity and quality. I cannot recommend Maxie's strongly enough.

Yelp
I've driven by this place my whole life while in Ithaca. Finally decided to try it for a birthday lunch with my husband and baby. We went early at 4pm and the staff was very accommodating without a reservation and high chair request. The staff was excellent and friendly. The oysters were delicious and I loved the side of fresh, shaved horseradish-the best way I've ever had it! My lack of 1 star is based on the fact that there were several fruit flies swarming around the table throughout the meal, which made me question the overall cleanliness. The food was excellent though and we hope to return.

Lou R.

Yelp
The service was friendly and welcoming. We had steamed clams with garlic, delish! Also oysters, super fresh. For main course we both had the seared tuna, which was beautifully presented, however the tuna steak itself was chewy and tasted like while frozen, there was moisture trapped-in and crystallized, which caused it to have a watery flavor. Disappointing. I would come back, but try something else.
google avatar

Tamara C.

Yelp
I was born and raised in the South Mississippi and TN. This place reminded me of home. The vibe was beautiful. Our waitress in the bar area was vibrant and attentive. The food cooked to order and prepared with love. Maxie is a GEM

Yelp
What a meal! It's been the longest time since I've had some quality Louisiana BBQ and wow did this hit the spot!! It's not every day you come across a place like Maxies. From the unique culinary offerings to the unparalleled customer service, this was a meal to remember. Just to give you an idea of how excellent the service was, I was unsure of which sides to get and the waitress brought me samples to help me decide!! The food came almost immediately as well which was a plus. Also, the complementary corn bread you receive right after ordering was also pretty great. If it was warm, it would have been perfect. I ordered the BBQ tofu and my friend got the Pulled Pork Sandwich. We split both coleslaws, baked beans, and the rough cut fries! My favorite sides were definitely the BBQ beans and the fries, and we both devoured our entrees. Don't know when I'll be back in Ithaca, but when I am, I'll definitely be stopping at Maxies!

Yelp
After a day of hiking Ithaca's surrounding trails during a weekend trip, we were so pumped to try as many things as possible the menu at Maxie's Supper Club! Here were our favorites: fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, clam and corn chowder. LOVED the crab cakes, and the fried tomatoes were the perfect complement. The chowder had great texture and a fresh, sweet flavor. The corn bread for the table was also such a treat to start the meal. We also tried the oysters, Cajun fries, and jambalaya. The happy hour oysters were fresh and delicious. We wished the jambalaya had more spice to it- it didn't taste as special as some of the other dishes we tried. That being said, we are so glad that we ate here during our short stay in Ithaca. Try as many things on the menu as you can if you visit! We were seated inside, but felt very safe with the social distancing measures in place.

Yelp
Delicious food! Excellent service. Everyone was friendly and polite. Server was fun and upbeat and on top of everything. I got the blackened chicken poboy with fries and my husband got fried shrimp. Huge portions and it was extremely yummy. Had to finish with their key lime pie-to die for! The best place to go for dinner in Ithaca!

Yelp
Like all the other reviews states ... this place is a great find!!! Plus the fact that my bf and I discovered the best tasting Tabasco! The server highly recommended it and he was spot on! Speaking of our server I'm so embarrassed that I can't remember his name but he was awesome! We discovered Habanero Tabasco when we asked for some hot sauce to go w/our raw clams and oysters. The oyster shooter is a must try and loved the grilled salmon special. This was good eats after the first of our trails and waterfall weekend explorations!

Todd B.

Yelp
Ate here for the first time last month. Food was amazing. Fresh oysters and the fried chicken was one of the best I've ever had. Will be back next time in Ithaca.

Yelp
Excellent happy hour and dinner. The staff were all kind and friendly. The food was delicious. I had a crabcake appetizer and BBQ tofu for the entrée. Both were excellently prepared and tasty. (I don't eat oysters.) Good beer. We were seated in the dining room right off the patio, with multiple doors and windows open and fans running, and the air quality was very good (under 600 ppm CO2 even when the tables were full). Recommend.

Yelp
It's a good place. Because it's called a "supper club," I thought it would be a bit more upscale/formal; however, it is definitely "Ithaca casual." When we arrived, the hostess launched into a pretty long litany of items that were no longer available that night (puzzling, since our reservation was for 7:30 on Saturday - not exactly end of the night). Still, there was plenty enough to choose from on the menu. They served corn bread to start. I prefer mine to be a bit firm and less crumbly, but it was good. The oysters, my companions assured me, were very good; Maxies is apparently known for its oysters. I can attest the Caesar salad was also good. We were hungry when we sat down -- we'd skipped lunch -- but the full portion of shrimp and grits couldn't be finished -- it was very big, and really delicious. While there could have been more shrimp, the pile of grits was mountainous, and it was covered by a terrific tasso ham gravy. The blackened tuna and blackened catfish were very good, as was the side of fried green tomatoes. The cajun fries, while definitely good, were probably not worth the extra calories. Staff was capable and super friendly. I'd like to go there again to try the jambalaya, or the chicken and waffles. Recommended.

Yelp
The New Orleans stay food is amazing! My sister called it spicy but it was just the way I love it! My favorites are the crab cakes, fried oysters, spicy beans and the delicious shrimp and grits. I also had good mix drinks! It is always crowded but the wait is worth it!

Yelp
After our hike in Ithaca, the bf and I decided to come here for some seafood since NYS is one of the few places that allow restaurants to dine in and out! I called ahead of time to make sure we could secure a spot and the host was super accommodating and nice. As soon as we got there, we were seated indoors with 6 feet social distancing implemented. Our server wore masks (as did we when we placed our orders) so we felt comfortable! We were able to order the happy hour oysters (i think it ends at 6pm?) along with the grit and BBQ Spare Ribs! Oysters were quite fresh and we gobbled them down so fast you only had time to blink once. Definitely a must if you visit here. The grits and BBQ Spare Ribs were also pretty good but just a little salty for my taste. However, it paired well with the cornbread and grits to kind of even out the flavour a bit. Otherwise, I think it would ave been harder to finish if you ate it solo. Overall, our experience was spectacular and couldn't have been better for our first indoor dining since Covid. We felt safe, taken care of, and our meal didn't break the bank. It'll be on the list for our next trip up to Ithaca!

Yelp
After a day of hiking we were pretty hungry. We made a reservation for 7:30pm and they seated us within 5 minutes. The hostess was very welcoming. We ordered an appetizer fried green tomatoes with dipping sauce which was delicious. They also brought out corn bread and butter. We had a couple of Hurricanes which brought back memories of the French Quarter. After that not so happy. My husband ordered the Jambalaya which was just okay a little dry. I ordered the Tacos which were blackened ( which wasn't written on the menu) and way to hot for me. The hostess was very accommodating and asked me is there anything else she could bring me. I just wanted the Tacos not blackened. They were just skimpy on the fish. Bottom line the service was exceptional, appetizers and drinks were good, but the meals we ordered were just okay.

Yelp
Unfortunately, we didn't get the hype for this place. We were seated a a high top table in the bar which we usually enjoy but we found the atmosphere uncomfortable. They had the hostess stand set up in the bar and the phone rang off the hook with orders and reservations- the whole thing was frenzied. The floor was wooden and somewhat dirty and just had no vibe. We didn't find the food anything to write home about either. We had crab topped oysters and we wondered if there was any crab. The supper club salad was okay but tasted like there was no dressing on it. We normally love jambalaya but this was bland- it could have been from Applebee's. We did like the cornbread that was served with dinner. We have found better options in the Ithaca area.

Yelp
While heading through town up to Cayuga Lake we stopped for dinner. We arrived just in time, within 15 min. the place was packed. The service was fast and the food was yummy. The kitchen is open so we watched as the cooks moved the food. It was quite impressive. We were satisfied but not overly full. It was a great spot to stop!
